    Chicken Congee
    Komal R.

Absolute delight of a place! It is located inside the TorvehallerneKBH food market. There were quite a few sweet and savory options but we were in a mood for the latter so we ordered the Chicken Congee which looked quite interesting - it has chicken, peanuts, sesame, spring onions etc. The picture I took does not do justice on how delicious this bowl was! So much so, we made it a point to recreate this dish once back home. If you love porridge, you have to come here!!

    Overnight oats with strawberries

Healthy and delicious... We got porridge and overnight oats and they were both delicious. We added strawberries to the overnight oats for about $1.50 and it was worth it. Coffee was also great. You order at the counter and they bring the food to the table. They have an English menu. The people were nice. It is a nice comfortable and modern store. We felt very comfortable here. It gets packed. We really enjoyed it. We went twice.

    Overnight oats (very good)

Located inside Torvehallerne, was walking distance from our hotel so had the chance to try a few different dishes. Order at the register and grab a seat at the high tops or counter. Service is friendly and quick. Overnight Oats - Good, filling, and healthy. Pretty straightforward dish. Tastes exactly as you would expect with fresh ingredients. This has me inspired to make oats at home more. Mushroom barley-otto bowl- liked this the most. I don't eat barley often, and have never had it as a risotto so this was new for me. The pickled mushrooms and onions, truffle mayo, and other misc ingredients complimented each other oddly well. Flavors I haven't tried combined together before so I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. Seasonal kale risotto (seasonal)- not very good. would not recommend.

Oat Porridge 1 and chai latte

I ordered the oat porridge one + a chai latte since I knew I wanted to try porridge while I was here. They didn't have the porch with all the toppings, so I figured I would go with one of the more popular ones. I was so so happy with this purchase. Who could've guessed oatmeal could taste this good??

Great place to grab a bite in Torvehallernes. Had the porridge #1 and love there was a small size for this one! Came with apples, homemade caramel & roasted almonds on the porridge (55dk). Filling, hot and delicious!

Acai bowls (top), chia pudding (left) and two DIY oatmeals

This restaurant does mostly does oatmeal, acai, porridges and pasta. I opted for the acai bowl, which was okay. The peanut butter was very natural and thick, and complemented the acai sweetness, and they were generous with the blueberries and banana but the acai wasn't particularly sweet or mindblowing. It was quite expensive as well for an acai bowl. The service was fast as well and the workers all very kind. The ambiance was clean and pop artist inspired, playing lots of Kanye and Frank Ocean. Super cool Gen-Z decor.

My airbnb was really close to Torvehallerne (a two-building food hall with farmer's market outside) and this place noticeably had a long line right at opening. For breakfast they focus on acai bowls and porridge that you can customize. It's a really great option for someone trying to make healthy choices while wanting some variety. In terms of seating, they have bar stools around the perimeter of the building, and benches all around the area (obviously beware of the birds!)

Barley Risotto and Fresh pressed juice

I'm not much of a porridge person, but my friend who recently moved to Copenhagen would not stop selling me on this shop and I can see why. This isn't your mama's porridge and if Goldie Locks was real, she would take one bite of this and realize it was just eighth. I ordered the barley risotto, which came with a mountain of ingredients garnishing the sides (pickled onions, sautéed mushrooms, curly kale, roasted almonds, and thinly shredded cabbage) planted on top of the large porridge bowl. This delicious dish was perfectly seasoned and had a textured surprise with each bite, which provided the right hygge vibes for the day. Unfortunately the bowl only came in one large size in contrast to the rest of the options, so I didn't get to finishing. I also got a freshly pressed juice which provided a refreshing break from the earthy porridge.

The perfect place for risotto or oatmeal lovers (of which I am both!). We shared the oat porridge and the mushroom barley risotto. They were both delicious.. especially the caramel sauce that came with the oat porridge. I only wish I could have come back for a second time during my time in Copenhagen.

The cutest cafe with so many clean, healthy, filling options. I absolutely love it here. Have tried almost everything the menu and the chicken congee remains my favorite

If you like risotto this is the place for you! Very, very good. Perfect for a cold, Christmas season evening.

This place was delicious! My husband and I were already feeling the pains of prices to eat out in Copenhagen...but luckily Grod was totally affordable and yummy! We ordered the #1 with caramel sauce, apple, almonds and oats and the second time, the All the toppings option. The ladies working here are hustling and serving up some delicious cooked oats. Everything was freshly made and tasted great. We wanted to try to the savory porridge they serve for lunch but will have to try next time! Seating here is limited but if you're able to snag a seat at the bar area- grab your oats and get inspired by reading their cookbook! Grod is located in the Torvehallen market place.

    Daal
    Jocelyn A.

Holy hipster, Batman! For all of you visiting from the States, this place has Pacific Northwest hipsters written all over it. A stall in a food market that sells artisan porridge, am I in an episode of Portlandia? After several days of eating too many pastries, I was in the mood for something a bit lighter. The crisp fall weather called for something warm, and this porridge stand came highly recommended on Yelp. The prices listed are for a "regular" size, and the "large" is 10 dkk more. The regular is enough for a snack, but if you are looking for a full meal, I would go with the large. There are both sweet and savory options, and we tried the Special Porridge (savory/sweet) and the Daal (savory). The Daal was nontraditional, but absolutely delicious. It was topped with a thick sour cream, which added a nice creamy, sour element. It also had almonds, which seemed odd, but they added some necessary texture. The Special Porridge was good, but something I could easily make at home - I wouldn't call it "special". The toppings were the best part. The service was a bit cold, but that may have been on account of our ordering in English. It also took a lot longer than you would think to scoop up two cups of porridge. Had I not been en route to Italy, I would have tried the risotto. It looked amazing! I would definitely stop in again on a crisp day in Copenhagen.

The restaurant's design is definitely minimalist with simple blank walls and a comfortable mix of fake and real plants. There was no air conditioning but they found a fan to keep us comfortable- we were amazed that more folks in the full restaurant weren't sweating the way we were. Perhaps the locals are more used to the summer heat with no AC than we were. We had the 3-course prefixe meal with my my wife and daughter on the standard menu while I was on the vegetarian track. The website says that Host is the Danish word for harvest, and that their focus is "on the Scandinavian kitchen with lots of surprises." The staff used the word "surprises" explicitly, using it to describe the amuse-bouches and palette-cleansing bites served between the advertised courses. We started with a flight of croquettes with cheese and I think my wife and daughter had something like a smoked fish hash of some sort while by I had a delightful bite of salad on a molded sweet cookie tart shell. The baby bread loaves with a special butter were lovely - how do you innovate butter? Great job. My first veggie entree was fried carrots with horseradish, which was grand. Next I had a barley risotto with amazing brown beech mushrooms on top. Awesome. There was a spot of potato soup in there somewhere and the best bite of the meal was another of the surprises - a pre-dessert mochi-like shell with strawberry powder on the outside and hazelnut ice cream (I think???) on the inside. The strawberry rhubarb dessert was excellent also. Such a great meal. Loved it.

I ordered the DANISH NATIONAL DISH and FRIED LIVER (I believe they are #19 and #20 on the menu). Interestingly, the server recommended something similar (another pork belly dish) over the national dish; stating it tastes much better and much softer... which I probably should have went with this recommendation since the national dish was TOUGH AS BONES. It wasn't crispy, chewy, or tasty. It was simply inedible. One couldn't even chew or cut through the meat... the side of skin on mini/small potatoes were simply boiled. The beet dish was delicious. The sauce didn't have much flavor (crazy how extra sauce costs 35 DKK more). The VEAL LIVER dish tasted better than the national dish ironically. Gave a tremendous portion. The potatoes were skinned. The gravy had some taste compared to the other sauce from the national dish. Decadent pickled cucumbers which provided a nice palate cleanser. Mushrooms gave a nice chew, a much appreciated and welcomed different texture. ***the bread given was not good at all*** ***it seems that water, even if it's from the sink or obviously bottled by them, costs money in any establishment*** SERVICE: Kind. The server calmed down those nerves and reassured us that all dishes on the menu were à la carte. Loved the small talk he attempted :) VIBEZ: Still had Christmas/holiday decor haha. Great for a night out/date. Casual with a sprinkling of fine dining. No service fees included in the bill. Great for large groups. Located in the city. Didn't have a car; therefore, I cannot vouch for parking. Close walk from/to the metro though! Would I come back? No, but I am elated I can cross off trying the danish national dish on my bucket list. :)
