Looking for smorrebrod for lunch and with Husmanns Vinstue fully booked, Kompa 9 was an excellent alternative. It's a small cafe in central Copenhagen with two dining areas, a menu full of breakfast and lunch options and strong wifi. I ordered the smoked cream cheese and potato smorrebrod and it was perfectly refreshing. The staff are also very kind!

This was my favorite restaurant I visited while in Copenhagen. The halloumi sandwich is to die for. I highly highly recommend.

    - Our experience at Kompa 9 was lovely! Great, delicious breakfast, and a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere inside. The staff was incredibly kind and definitely enhanced the experience. I ordered a cappuccino and it was both very aesthetic and tasty. Along with this, I ordered the poached egg which was hardy and filling for multiple hours. Highly recommend this cute little spot if in Copenhagen!

Cute brunch spot in Copenhagen. It gets very busy so be prepared to wait to sit close with other diners. Opens early at 9:00 am! Very homie and staff is wonderful.

Quaint and quiet little café parallel to the main shopping street. The coffee is very good and adequately priced for Danish standards (coffee is generally expensive in Denmark). There are various tasty breakfast options that are brought to your table. I'd recommend coming here for a break from (window-shopping), away from the crowded coffee-temples on the main street.

I'm sitting at Kompa'9 as I type these words and it's raining cats and dogs outside. I am filled with love. Behind me there's a half-Persian, half-Danish woman talking with her two male friends and in front of me is a French family discussing the outline of Copenhagen. I feel bad for them because the weather truly is a nightmare. I am writing the near-end of my novel and having an avocado snack and a flat white, both made to perfection. I love everything because Kompa'9 is telling me to. The rustic interior, the warmth, the sense of being in the middle of something, but still able to stay on the outside. This is so rare in this jungle of mediocre cafés (all except Lanterne Rouge further up the same street), but Kompa'9 is a pearl in a sea of grey. Outside, literally, it is a sea of grey.

Kompa makes a gorgeous flat white. The space inside is warm and inviting, with a large community table and plenty of window nooks where you can get some serious work done. (Yes, there's free wifi) Oh, and the toilet is in a shed out in the back garden. Good luck in winter!

So hygge.... Best coffee I've ever had to. I wish I lived in CPH so I could bring a book or my labtop and chill here for countless hours. It's just that sort of place! Check it out for a nice was to start your day or maybe a pick me up halfway through it!

    Morning plates and scrambled eggs

Yummy yummy breakfast! We got two morning plates, the scrambled eggs and a sweet thing to share between the 4 of us and it was huge. The morning plate can definitely be split with two people. The most amazing part of the breakfast was the strawberry and rhubarb jam on their danish rye. But it was really an incredible plate bc it was like charcuterie for breakfast with a yogurt parfait, eggs and bacon, grapefruit and juice and toast.

A typical scene. Woman buying something delicious.

They have very delicious sandwiches including vegetarian ones. The service is incredibly friendly and you can watch all the sexy and hip people passing by. It's located very central but in a street which is not so hectic.

Great staff. Perfect afternoon stop. Coffee was super, and rugbrød sandwiches were spot on. Good price level. Somewhat spartan decor and chairs - also toilet outside in the back was weird, but that is just the old old CPH. Highly recommend for low key hang out.

The avocado snack sandwich was yummy filling, and just what I needed at the time. The cafe is quite cozy, relaxed, and has wifi too :) But for me, this place was nothing super special or a place I feel I must return to. There are many other places I would recommend before this one.

Probably because it's hard to find if you don't know it's Danish name (HAHA!). I knew it as The Little Yellow Coffee Bar, however we know that's not really it's name on a map or google. It is tucked away, right off Strøget, one of the busiest walking streets in the city. When you walk in, you can order downstairs and sit there, or travel upstairs to sit at a table or on one of the comfy couches. I elected to have my oat milk latte and chocolate croissant upstairs on a couch. I admired the decor and sipped my latte while doing some work. Around dinner, it got a bit busier since they serve actual food here, besides pastries and coffee. At that point, it was a bit louder and less suited for work. So you could come here for either a meal with friends or to enjoy the calm vibes of a coffee shop, depending on the time!

This was around 4:13 pm on a Saturday. We order three smorrebrod and we ate them in the Tivoli food hall. All were served on plates. The correct way to eat was with a fork and knife as we learned while watching an episode of Somebody Feed Phil. The chicken salad was undoubtedly our favorite. Lots of shredded chicken but overall smooth and tasty. We crumbled the bacon to add some texture and that was even better. The marinated salmon was ok but we liked the nice pop of flavor from the pomegranate seeds. I may try to add them at home to my smoked salmon. The egg and shrimp smorrebrod was tastier. We returned our empty plates back to the counter when we were finished. Not completely in love with open face sandwiches but may try again on a future return trip to Copenhagen.

We liked it so much we contemplated going back and ordering more! We sat in the dining area to eat, which had a high chair available. We also got a window seat which had a beautiful view of the square below and some stunning architecture. We sat there for awhile just enjoying the view. "The name comes from the appearance of the first bakery, which was a square building with alternating cream-colored layers resembling a layer cake." This bakery also serves breakfast items, brod (open face )sandwich and coffees. Here is a sample of pastry offerings in Danish: Wienerbrød: The general term for what English speakers call "Danish pastries". Kanelsnegl: A cinnamon roll. Spandauer: A pastry typically filled with jam or custard. Frøsnapper: A pastry sprinkled with seeds. Tebirkes: A poppy seed pastry. There are numerous locations for this bakery. I visited the location in main hall of Kobenhaven K or Central Station before catching my train to Kronborg Castle. The space was filled with people who were grabbing a ticket and then wait for ticket number to be called. I was indecisive and thought I saw a pastry with lemon filling. The employee who seemed a bit flustered told me that it was not lemon and she did not have anything with lemon. It turned out to be vanilla custard which was just as good. I also tried the green sprinkled marshmallow ball. She placed my two items in their own bag. I wanted a shopping bag which she snidely says "It cost 5 krone". Unfortunately, my New York response was snide as well, "I don't care". The two pastries were delicious. However, service needs to be as exquisite as the items you sell, unfortunately this location is lacking in that. There is another, smaller located downstairs from concourse whose employees are sweeter. Nok sagt or enough said.

Brought it back to my hotel to consume. I thought it was OK, very dense and definitely one would fill you up (couldn't finish it). Much prefer an almond croissant.

The mushroom frittata (I think it was) was absolutely delish- no rubbery egg taste, lovely mushies. I was worried about the carrot salad because it looked like it was tossed in something creamy, but it was quite good. This also included a really rich and thick tomato soup, and a small toast w/ goat cheese and a rhubarb jam, and some sweet treat- I'm guessing made with mascarpone. Hubbies sandwiches were good, though I've never seen mushrooms in a chicken salad before (luckily they were big enough for him to pick out so I got those too). Only reason to dong them a Star was due to the chaotic way and wait to order. There was one queue downstairs and two people intermittently taken orders. But, the people taking the orders also were making fancy coffee drinks and doing other stuff, so it was very staccato. When we were next in line, both people ringing people up went missing for quite a few minutes and then a newcomer went straight over to the 2nd register to ask a question, as if the people in the longer queue weren't waiting, and because the guys behind the counter were so all over the place they couldn't keep track of that. Then it turns out if you want to sit upstairs, you have to order up there, so off we went to wait in another queue. After you order, you take a number to your table and we thought they forgot about us, and asked a bus boy to check in for us and he returned with our food. Oy!
