By the end of our trip we were (jokingly? No, no, seriously!) motivated by restaurants designated by "where chefs eat". And Granola - phew - met the mark, with some Noma chefs claiming Granola as a favourite for their off-days (thanks Guardian article). The bad news: we arrived for a late breakfast just after they stopped serving (11 AM). This meant that I got to ogle others' breakfasts - soft boiled eggs and generous muesli plates and dark purple berry smoothies - but not partake myself. The good news: two breakfast items were hidden in other parts of the menu. So, yes, yes, pancakes and egg sandwiches with coffees it was. And...what a coffee! Granola has a retro vibe, inspired by American-style ice cream shoppes. My iced coffee came looking more like a three-tiered ombre frappe than a standard morning brew. To be honest, it was more pretty than it was satisfying, but I'm glad I ordered it. Y'know, for the experience. The egg sandwich (my order) was lovely...two grilled brioche slices with a patty of frittata-like (potato, ham, tomato) egg between. That said, if you have a Hulk-sized hunger, it probably won't stick with you for ages. I think what I love best is the vibe. There's an old timey feel with concrete floors and a retro hand-dryer and powdered ivory soap in the bathrooms. Oh, and the people watching! Did I mention that? Copenhagen generally had me gawking at adorable babies and bikers with pups and street-style-fresh couples: Granola is a great concentration of all of the above. Yelp note: do as I say and not as I did: note the breakfast times.

I saw that this place had pretty good marks on yelp, and was in my city guide as well, so since our apartment wasn't far away from it, we decided to take breakfast there on our first day in the city. When we arrived in the restaurant, we had to wait a little bit to be seated (10 / 15 min). We both wanted to take the brunch but then the waitress told us that since it was 12:10 it was impossible to have the brunch and we had to choose on the lunch menu. I took the salmon smorrebrod and my boyfriend took the egg and bacon muffin. We waited quiet a long time before our lunch came but maybe the place is a slow food restaurant, we were on vacations anyway. My smorrebrod was good, a bit small maybe but good, I took a berries and banana smoothie with it which was awesome. My boyfriend was a bit disappointed by his lunch thought, there wasn't enought bacon, and it wasnt crispy. No way to find anything gluten free around here.

Wonderfully cute breakfast dishes, but a bit small. However, we were able to enjoy our meal on a table along the sidewalk. The food was very good and the setting was great for a sunny summer day in Copenhagen. Granola is on a nice street in Frederiksberg with local shops in the area.

I used to be quite the fan of this place - their croissants and porridge was by far the best I'd ever hand. And I've had my share of both. So, it breaks my heart to say that the quality isn't what it used to be. I mean, in the gastronomic capital of Scandinavia you get spoiled with outstanding offers so maintaining quality is what differentiates winners from losers. And Granola isn't up there anymore. I can't put my finger on it - they're still trying, but somehow they just fall a bit short. The porridge isn't silky smooth as it used to be. The cakes are less exciting. Not even the coffee lives up to former glory. Seriously guys. What happened? I am holding my breath that their head chef is on vacation or another temporary bump on the road and they'll quickly return to their former brilliance.

We arrived at Granola at around 10.30 am, eager to try their breakfast offering that co-Yelper's had raved about - only to realize that we weren't the only people keen to do so! There were three couples ahead of us so we grabbed a coffee from the window (v cool way to sell coffee and sweets if you ask me), and the wait went quickly. We tried the egg muffin and the granola, plus smoothies no. 2 & 3. All of which I can recommend! It was worth the wait, the vibe is great and the service good. Also it's not too pricey for Copenhagen. Definitely get there early as although breakfast is served til 12 on the weekends, you should factor in some waiting time. They don't take reservations so it's first come first served.

Hot chocolate. (Without espresso, as I ordered)

Copenhagen offers multiple places with similar menuchoises: So nothing unique here. The street is vibrant and the ambience on the small terrace is cozy. This is a cafe, not a restaurant. I asked if I could possibly get an extra poached egg on top of my avokado sandwich. The waitress was super sweet and accomodating and would ask in the kitchen. I was serverd an overboiled egg on my avokado (for extra 10dkk). The bread was very hard to cut. The meal lacked of spices (supposed to come with hint of chili). My hot chocolate espresso came without the espresso. My friend ordered tartar which was bland and totally tasteless, more like a "mush" and he didn't finish his meal. The fries and aioli were tasty. (He paid 120dkk. On the opposite side of the street you'll find Falernum serving an excellent tartar for 95dkk). At the end we wanted to split the bill which was 270dkk. The waitress wanted to charge us both 180dkk. Bad maths skills? She didnt even apologize, after charging me 180dkk (and I wanted to check the bill again) and just annoyed told me to count how much my friend has to pay. The bathroom is a joke! It looks oldfashioned and cool, but you cant sit down without touching the door with your legs. And the door is not lockable. There is no soap or towels.

Lovely period café serving delicious simple breakfasts in gorgeous surroundings. You really could be taking a step back in time when you come into Granola. All the details, from the lighting, to the weird power soap in the toilets, is convincing! I am only marking it down slightly as they've crammed a few too many tables into the back room, where we had breakfast. Perhaps that's authentic too? Breakfast for two people will set you back 330DKK, which is around 44 EUR. Denmark is not cheap.

The place is beautiful and full of story. Keeps a lot of the old times. Food is acceptable had a decent brunch but far from amazing. Service is awful. Employees are bad to each other not spirit at all. Being ridiculous of not allowing a colleague to change customers to a better table applying the apparently house rules.

This homey spot is pretty nice. A good mix of people, although a bit too many tourists for my tastes, but it's because the food is good here. I probably should have got the pancakes since I love those, but wanted to mix it up instead on my only visit. If you are looking for something chill in this neighborhood, definitely stop by!

Latte, grapefruit and mint, boiled egg and granola

I visited here on a recent holiday/city break as we were staying nearby and was really pleased with my visit. It had a modern bistro kind of feel with a restaurant plus you could also sit and eat at the bar (and have a drink or two!). I had the red grapefruit with mint and the boiled egg and soldiers which was cooked perfectly. It was busy and there was a 20 minute or so wait to eat in the restaurant but this is as expected on a Saturday morning. All of the other meals that were coming out of the kitchen and whizzing by us looked exceptional also. The bread that came with the egg was amazing! Friendly, quick service. My partner also ordered the boiled egg but they forgot to put the bread on the plate when it came out to us but they quickly rectified it and apologised after we pointed it out. Great for either a healthy or boozy brunch!

We arrived at 1 PM on Friday and they were already sold out of the roasted pork. We ended up ordering the Chicken/Bacon/Avocado sandwich and the Chicken/Chili/Cheese sandwich and then debated on whether to get the berry smoothie (but some folks sitting nearby eating sold us on how great the smoothie was -- and they were right!). The sandwiches had good flavor and we ended up splitting each one -- which gave us some variety for our lunch. There isn't a lot of seating available here, so if your hotel is within walking distance here, I'd recommend taking it to go and then eating in the hotel lobby/courtyard. That's what my wife and I ended up doing.

It was just a sandwich, but the experience made it taste incredible. This was around 4:13 pm on a Saturday. We order three smorrebrod and we ate them in the Tivoli food hall. All were served on plates. The correct way to eat was with a fork and knife as we learned while watching an episode of Somebody Feed Phil. The chicken salad was undoubtedly our favorite. Lots of shredded chicken but overall smooth and tasty. We crumbled the bacon to add some texture and that was even better. The marinated salmon was ok but we liked the nice pop of flavor from the pomegranate seeds. I may try to add them at home to my smoked salmon. The egg and shrimp smorrebrod was tastier. We returned our empty plates back to the counter when we were finished. Not completely in love with open face sandwiches but may try again on a future return trip to Copenhagen.

We got there later in the day and there was still an array of toast options - some vegetarian, others pescatarian and others with a heaping of meat on top. We liked it so much we contemplated going back and ordering more! We sat in the dining area to eat, which had a high chair available. We also got a window seat which had a beautiful view of the square below and some stunning architecture. We sat there for awhile just enjoying the view.
