Shower system with bath installed in July 2025. November 2025 I find a leak in a drainage line that may or may not have been caused by the plumber during installation. Instead of telling me there was nothing he could do, the plumber assessed and was able to repair the leak in the ABS line. Jeremy from the Southeast MN region is the man! Left me feeling good about my decision to go with Mad City. With that said, everything that people say about this company as far as high pressure sales and phone calls is 100% true. Had some guys come to the door and offer a free estimate for windows- we had been in the market so decided to book and figure getting a price to start with would help us compare down the line. We did not have any intention of signing anything (like most customers). We had an appointment for 6:30pm the following week- confirmed the appointment. The day of we got a call 15 minutes before the appointment saying the guy had car trouble and needed to reschedule- no biggie- we rescheduled for the next day at 2pm. At no time during scheduling did they give us a time estimate for how long they would require for the appointment. We thought they would come take some measurements, go over some options and give us a price. I work in property management- I know sales, I know contractors. The salesperson was very friendly. He arrived at 2pm pretty promptly and went through some basic information, measured all our windows and then started with the slideshow. At this time, it had already been an hour. Myself and mother (the sole homeowner) were present for the meeting. We sat patiently and listened to all the differences between Mad City's product and were impressed with the quality. Around 3:45 we told him that we had to leave at 4pm for a dinner reservation at 4:30 with a friend. He said no problem, however the presentation dragged on. Over half of the presentation was him reading from a slideshow where he misread things, skipped slides, and mainly focused on all the great reviews they had over other companies. While he started each sentence with "not to bash (x company) but..." which started to get old. 4pm comes and goes and we have still not heard a price. Meanwhile my mother and I are periodically leaving the room to prepare for our dinner reservation and to call our friend we are meeting there. He finally starts to tally the price up with all our measurements. Then, like others have mentioned, we were made to "guess the price for a free dinner" like we weren't already missing a reservation. We were offered $35k for a whole house of windows (13). We knew the pricing was going to be high already as the house has been in a state of disrepair when it came to the windows, but again we were only shopping. We told them we would NOT be signing anything today and that we needed to leave- as we had already told them at least twice. I had to pack up the sales presentation materials that were all over the house myself and told him we needed to leave, again. He called his boss to get us a lower offer. Once he called in, then there was another discount that was available- shocker. Again, I work in a sales industry- I know the tactics. I told him point blank- if any offer you are telling is only good for right now- I am telling you we are not signing anything today. He continues to try and sell. At this point it is 4:15pm- a half hour after we told him we needed to leave, still with window parts spread across our living room. I blatantly tell him, "I don't want to kick you out, but I HAVE to kick you out because we need to leave." Overall, the person was pleasant, but the companies tactics do not align with the "trustworthy" image they are trying to present. Their whole hour long plus powerpoint telling us how great they are and how unreliable every other company was really all flushed away by the predatory sales tactics and pricing. A sales rep stopped by my house in Brainerd to offer their services and products. When I explained I do all work myself and have had rental properties for nearly 25 years and I didn't plan to sell (as he tried to talk over me about the value of resale if you do the work vs. me, which he could clearly see the majority of the exterior is new), he started getting verbally aggressive saying "Oh really? You're NEVER going to sell? So when you die, you're going to leave your heirs a property? You're going to die, everyone dies." and kept on and on. Admittedly, I lost my patience and had some choice words for him. But, I'm not representing your company or trying to hard sell anyone on a product they neither need nor want. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a door to door sales person, and based on this experience, I will never entertain another from Mad City. read more

Terrible experience with this company. I paid $12,833 for a new bathtub to be installed. The contract stated they would remove everything "to studs". That did not occur. We choose this company mainly for the quick turn around time because our daughter with special needs had to have a bathtub to safely bathe. When our next contractor came 3 weeks later to continue work on the rest of the bathroom these deficiencies were found: -Failure to perform a full tear out to the studs -Existing sheet rock left in place, including areas of mold and water damage -Surround panels placed over tile and existing sheet rock and tub placed on the pour-set tile on the floor -Plywood was replaced only partially, and rotten metal left untreated - Out of square panel and cracks in the finish -Mold remediation was not performed nor disclosed -Per Mad City manager, Stuart, spray foam was used as a base, however upon inspection an insufficient amount of foam was noted and no plywood was put down as a subfloor, and there is a missing or inadequate drop leg support noted -Loose plywood under the tub. Even the manager who came out agreed with the new contractor of all the poor work and decencies. The project manager, Wayne, was extrelily rude and dismissive. He actually said something along the lines of he was in a large meeting and still answered my call- as if he was doing me such a favor. He eventually offered a new technician to remove the tub and reinstall a new one, However, given the poor quality for the initial work, and clear violations of the written contract I no longer trust this company to provide a safe or professional resolution. Wayne is refusing a full refund despite the fact that the contract was clearly violated by Mad City!! Either way, my daughter will be without a safe way to bathe for another period of time while their work is corrected. I am requesting a refund, as the contract was clearly violated! The guy did not leave until 5:30pm - predatory, pressure to sign a contract, put $100 down to get him to leave. I had Mad city remodel our bathroom just putting in a new shower. They broke antique Rookwood tiles that were part of my existing tiling without replacing it. I left a review to this effect and was immediately told to take it down and they would fix it. It has been 2 months. They also replaced a shower door with a bathtub door such that the door has a bar 5 ft off the ground and is a hazard that they said they would fix. Coolaige H. Was the salesman. He lied to me, saying that the total bill would be about $17,000.00 with basic white, tub removal and walk in shower completed. I questioned "if that was the final total; $17,000.00 including loan fees, interest, everything. he said, "Not one penny more". I signed, told him I was excited to tell my kids. He was on his phone, didn't look up, but said, "Don't tell them." I asked,"why?". After papers were signed he told me that my "kids might not want me to spend the money." He said,"it's your money, spend it how you want." I finally told my son. He and my CPA told me that "the loan would spike the job total up." I said, "No. I asked him and he said,"17,000.00 and not one penny more. " I was urged to cancel the contract. I only live on about $12,000.00 a year. I'm not good with numbers.. I later found out Cooliage lied and when the bank papers finally came, I found out the 9.9+ interest rate, the total cost would be $33,678.00+ He lied. We contacted Louis at headquarters and have emails. I sent a check for $16,647+ to get out of the contract. I feel so lied to, manipulated, taken advantage of. He made his sale..yeah, he's a master liar. Too bad he can't put all that effort into some honest business that is not ripping seniors off. That loan would have taken me 15 YEARS to pay off. He didn't provide any loan details: name of bank, credit charges, interest.. he would not of made the bogus sale if he would have told me $33,000.00+ . I would have passed on his estimate. I am so upset about all this. The company (if honest) was NOT Represented well by Cooliage. Louis was not understanding at all. Based on what the facts are, I should have been released from the contract without paying my savings of $1,600.00+. Between MadCity and trump..I'm overwhelmed and feel so depressed. I made the colossal mistake of trusting them to reface my kitchen cabinets, and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. They use the cheapest, most substandard materials imaginable--fit for a dumpster, not a home. Within a year, the glued-on refacing started popping, peeling, and chipping off like it was made of dollar-store stickers. After complaining, they replaced the cabinets. Fine. But within another year, the exact same thing happened again. Their garbage products can't even last 12 months - Check the photos. When I filed another service request, their inspector came out, confirmed the issue, and said it would be replaced. Fast forward to today: they call me and say they won't replace it again because their product "can't handle kitchen heat." Wait--WHAT?! Let me get this straight: you're selling KITCHEN cabinets that can't handle cooking heat? What kind of absolute junk are you pawning off at premium prices? INCREDIBLY off-putting. Scheduling gave us the impression that we were inconveniencing them and that it was assumed we would be choosing them for our shower remodel. -When they gave us two times they were available and we noted we are not free (yet said we are available the next two weeks) we were told to call back when WE had more availability. -When confirming our appointment, they asked multiple questions that both implied a sense of distrust that we were not able to make decisions for our own house and implied that we will be moving forward with Mad City for our remodel. -They also asked if both decision makers of the house would be home, yet never shared that it was expected for both people to be available at all times for a 2 hour presentation...we learned this later...read on. -Our appointment was then cancelled and we had to go through rescheduling again, and confirmation...again. We almost canceled at this point...and we should have. The employee came to assess our bathroom and provide an estimate. I was offended MULTIPLE times by how she spoke to me. -When she arrived, I noted my husband was in a work meeting and I was asked to reschedule as I would be incapable to reshare with him what I was told. I noted we are either meeting now or not at all per our previous scheduling experience. -She continued to make statements that were genuinely insulting to the prior company that gave us an estimate such as "They are just going to Menards to get your supplies" and "How can they give you a real estimate if they don't know what design you want?". We got an assessment from a company with a great reputation, high regard for their clients, and high quality craftsmanship. -She noted that it would be hard to move forward with sharing further information as I was actively caring for my 10 month old baby. At this point, I asked her to leave my house. She said that would be a good idea and left without saying another word. I have never felt so disrespected before, especially in my own home. In June, some reps came by my house asking if I needed my windows upgraded, indicating that they could just come by and test the efficiency of my windows--no pressure to buy. I thought, hell, why not? Then I decided not to do it and cancelled the appointment. Ever since then, I have received constant phone calls about getting my windows upgraded. I requested to be taken off their list, and they STILL CALLED AGAIN, the same day. When I reminded them, they said "It can take 24 to 48 hours to be taken off the list." Really? How big is their company? I only know of three little satellite offices. So, it's easier to get an appointment with them apparently, than it is to get them to leave you alone. While I appreciate that the owner replied to my negative review, I assure you that after 25+ years working with a variety of contractors, I know the difference between educating the customer and sticking to the sales pitch, even after 60 minutes, and pleading with the rep to "start telling me what you can do, not what others do wrong ". No matter what I said, how I said it, or how often I said it, after 60 minutes, the script continued. I'm not alone - look at the other similar reviews. Then the rep played games, quizzed me, had me guess the total, etc. I made it clear that I was unhappy after 60 mins and that I was not being heard. Also, the person on the phone who booked the appointment convinced me to book before February because the estimate was good for a year and there was a free labor promotion, but the sales rep at my house informed me that the quote "should be good for a year" but the promo ended that day, and there would be a new promo in February, but I could not qualify for that promo. The promo? Free labor. The savings - only $3.5k off a $60k job. I don't blame the rep - he appeared to be trained to plow through for 90 mins, regardless of the customer. I kept sending to voicemail and not one person left a voicemail. When I decided to actually speak to the person calling, they said I inquired, and I 100% did no such thing. Looking to do a bathroom tub to shower conversion. Mad City was the first one that came up on the google search. That probably should have been a warning, but in any event we met with a sales rep. The presentation totally reminded me of a timeshare presentation. Took almost 3 hours and rep never took out a tape measure or provided any breakdown of the estimate, other than if we wanted a sliding glass entry, it was $3500. Should have provided several breakdowns. For example, Demo, panel, floor pan, fixtures, door and obviously labor. Pretty basic items for any kind of quote. I liken it to going to get your vehicle repaired and they shoot you a price without detailing what needs to be done. The bill will be $8K to fix your vehicle, but if you sign today we can fix it for $6K. Rep went on and on about how good their pricing and product was and how others were inferior. Exhaustive questionnaire about the project, financing, experience with other contractors and more zero value questions. Absolutely zero detail on their quote. Had us guess a price. We estimated high and were $4K under their one year price guarantee before offering various discounts. September special, manager special, location special.....calling the office to see if there was another promo to offer. Too much fluff and not enough stuff. Today only pricing tactics. What is interesting is that is a lot of discrepancy between ratings on Angies List and Yelp. Reviews on Yelp are what match our experience. We continue our quest for a bathroom upgrade. Mad City will not be in the running and the sales rep basically told us that they would not be back to honor their one time all time low pricing. It was take it leave it offer. read more

For these reasons: - Sales inaccurate, I asked if my recent hot water heater was sufficient, was told 'yes', then learned when measuring I had paid for a new water heater - Installation issues - despite my pointing it out and installer acknowledging, screwed tub surround into track for pocket door - User manual does not speak to my version of the tub, also claims to supply sample aroma beads and suction cup feature to remove access panels - neither came with the install - Inspector ended up breaking clips on access panel when trying to open it - Electrical inspection issues - 4 days after install I found, by chance in the middle of the night, my new water heater piping was leaking all over my utility room; extremely difficult to get a hold of Mad City to address, learned there was a pipe joint that hadn't been crimped - HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN??!! However, with different discounts we qualified for (only if we signed today), the price dropped to $5976. If you want a sales presentation instead of discussing the project with a contractor go to Mad City. If you want them to give you an inflated price and then magically lower it 20% if you "agree to sign right now" go with Mad City. I asked why I wasn't given the best price up-front and was told "I wasn't done with my presentation." Be prepared for a high pressure sales meeting and not a discussion/conversation with a professional. The salesman did not deviate from his "presentation" even when I had questions. He kept asking about why I'm not ready to sign up right now. And if I needed more time he could step outside. You think people make $50,000 contractor decisions in five minutes?" This was a slimy timeshare presentation except in my kitchen. When I said I was not going to make a decsion today he got up, said "Yep, good luck buddy." Most homeowners need work throughout the time they're in their homes and building a relationship with a trusted contractor is important. A good contractor will see repeat work over the years. Mad City put no effort into building a relationship. Again, and I can't stress this enough, it was high-pressure talking-points and refusal to discuss project alternatives. read more

I asked in writing and over the phone if they did shower repairs and the rep said they did. When the rep arrived he immediately told me they only do shower installations. He spent exactly 5 minutes in my bathroom and gave me a quote of over $14,000 for a simple install. I secured another quote that day from another contractor I have experience with and was quoted $6000 - $8000, a monumental difference. No cost breakdown was ever given and the rep continued to try to sell me on a luxury shower install, not what I requested. While the sales people at a craft show trying to get people estimates were super nice, I would not recommend this place. I signed up for a free estimate for my bathtub. When the time came I had an unexpected thing come up that I had to leave for super early in the morning. Since they were not open yet I sent them an email stating that I wouldn't be home so I needed to reschedule. My appointment time was 10:00 so these people sat in my driveway for at least that long and they called me from 9 different numbers. I hired mad city to do a tub to shower conversion. The first install was a complete failure. Walls were not supported correctly and or bowed. The installer cut our new flooring and tried to cover it up by saying he needed to put a trim piece down to bridge the gap between my flooring and the new shower pan. He left a complete mess in my bathroom and in my driveway. A nice big handprint on one of the grab bars and out bathroom screen had the outline of the guys fan from all the dust. Second time they installed after ripping the first one out, the trim is not set right and there is a big gap. Flooring they installed does not have even seams and gaps at joints. They damaged my newly painted walls with caulking and broke several tiles while installing the shower. Management is a nightmare to deal with. I have had to call them most everyone. Field service manager that came out the first time said If I complained about the project coordinator he would take care of me. Evedently they do not get along. The materials they use are very cheap and not worth the money you pay. The panels are very thin. Both installers left the plastic shavings in my driveway after working. I had those shavings all over in my cars and my home. read more

I have never and will never do business with you. Your salesmen come by at least once a month and ring the bell and pound on the door like police and wake my infant.
