I went here with 7 other friends and I would definitely NOT recommend this place. Not only did we have to wait 90 minutes for food, it was very difficult to get a hold of our waiter. One of our party members also did not get their food until 2 hours after ordering due to a mistake by the sever. Then upon asking for the receipt to be split we were met with extreme rudeness and were told "it would be a while" Most of our food was cold when it came out, we were charged $8 extra for 4 pieces of shrimp when we asked to sub the chicken to shrimp in our Cajun pasta. My wife and I were hanging out in Stillwater over new years and were recommended to stop in here. Totally worth it. Great ambiance, very unique interior with live music even at lunch time. We got the Italian nachos to start. I've never had anything like those, so good! I had their famous chicken sandwich after that. I'm not usually a chicken sandwich guy but this one stands out for sure. Great spicy ranch sauce, big piece of chicken. Our waitress was amazing as well. Highly recommend this place! read more

Good luck, warm beer, ok food sometimes, not very good the next time. I'm passing on this place for a while... Menu says "grilled chicken wings". One time great crispy wings with distinct charred grill marks, next time undercooked rubbery wings with nothing for grill marks. My friend and I stopped in for dinner after our AR Workshop event. Located so close we just walked over. My friend and I have never been here before. She loves French onion soup and said it was great. She also ordered the duck wontons and enjoyed it as well. I tried the pesto grilled cheese sandwich. It was not normally something I'd get, but it was pretty good. They don't skimp on the cheese that's for sure. The fries were some of my favorite fries. Mad Capper Saloon, one of the best eateries / drinkeries in Stillwater (in my humble opinion). The wait team here are awesome and friendly. Our waitress (sorry forgot your name) was informative and laid back. They have a good selection of beers on tap. Tried the Olifant peanut butter beer and it was good. I'm shocked to leave this review after reading all the reviews before dining in at Mad Capper. Our waitress was friendly, she graciously took the time to explain the items on the menu. She described most of the items using the verbiage of "homemade" and "from scratch" and I'm a sucker for that but unfortunately The 5 of us did not like our meals at all, we all had a lot of food left over and left unsatisfied, we got a snack at Leo's shortly after to make up for the disappointment. We ordered pesto chicken sandwich the smashed chicken sandwich, the avocado melt and the Cajun fettuccini Alfredo, all came with fries that were flavorless and dry but chewy (stale like) the sandwiches were underwhelming and also bland same goes for the pasta it had spice but that's about it. We were looking for somewhere we hadn't tried before in Stillwater, so the Mad Capper it was! We each started with a cup of white chicken chili. Omg. Yum!!! It was happy hour when we were there, so we decided to share the Parmesan fries and the slider trio. There were a ton of fries for $4. They were thin like McDonald's fries and sprinkled with salt, pepper and shredded Parmesan. They came with a garlic aioli for dipping. They were good, but not my favorite ever. The sliders were great! There were three of them....i think a mushroom and Swiss, a cowboy and a jalapeno burger? The drinks and service were also great. I decided to take myself on a lunch date so I happened in to the Mad Capper on a random Wednesday. What a treat! I wanted a bloody, because... who doesn't? I had the dill pickle bloody with a chaser of Hamms. Just a standard dill bloody Mary mix, straightforward. It was OK. I would prefer one homemade but it was fine and presented well. It was a tough choice between the corned beef sandwich and the caprese sandwich but I chose the corned beef (it's march so I was feeling festive). Sandwich was OK, but typical lunch meat. The shining star in my experience was the lovely Paige who was behind the bar. What a wonderful friendly lady! I paired my sandwich with the special drink called the good luck babe martini, advertised as an adult shamrock shake. It was delicious and packed a punch! I experienced fast, friendly service with decent food, good drinks and a relaxing atmosphere. People make your experience, average food can be elevated by your server! I hope the establishment knows how Paige does that! I had a wonderful experience. I'll see Paige again for sure on another random Wednesday. I'll try that caprese next time. read more

We were walking down mainstreet in need of some lunch so we stopped here! It was easy to get a table for four. Our server was so pleasant and fun even on such a rainy day. This place really has a funky pub atmosphere - big bar in the middle but plenty of tables around. I didn't love our booth area - it was more like a couch with pillows and no good backrest but it fit the vibe of the restaurant. The food was good but nothing too special. I went with a cheeseburger with grilled onions. It was big enough that I only ate half - so worth the money. It was cooked great and was delicious. Was a little disappointed at how little fries we got, and they didn't impress me personally. Overall, I wouldn't be opposed to heading back in the future - but I'd rather go somewhere more unique in the area. read more

A group of friends were in Stillwater for the snow sculpture competition. After walking around we walked over to grab some lunch (if you're driving down expect mostly street parking or to walk from a lot). It was busy as expected but we did get seats at the bar. I ordered a mule mocktale which was tasty and a classic smashburger. The burger was done to my liking but could have had more seasoning and it felt like there were too many toppings like onion and tomatoes compared to the thickness of the burger. Our PubPass brought us here for dinner and a beer after golf. I had the Fairstate Party Forward Hazy IPA since it's state fair time. It was wonderfully cold and refreshing with the right amount of hoppy flavor. I asked our server what food they were known for and she enthusiastically said 'the pasta'. So my choice for dinner was made. I opted for the Garganelli and it was fantastic. The creamy pesto sauce covered the garganelli noodles with a light coating. The noodles on top had a nice crispy coating of parm cheese. Prosciutto was a welcome taste with each bite. The portion size was also perfect. Too often pasta is served in a size to feed four. I'm not a leftover gal so I liked keeping the portion smaller. I did have to pay extra for a toasted bread side which I think should come with a $16 pasta meal. It was super good though. I've been going to the Mad Capper for years. Pre and post its dive bar days. It's always been a solid choice. But...not last weekend. Truffle/parm fries were barely warm with no hint of truffle. Philly sandwich would be completely abhorrent to anyone from Philly. Thete was a small amount of chunks of beef and even less of peppers. I was surprised because this place has always delivered. Service was fine and the atmosphere has a cozy bar/restaurant feel. With all the great restaurant choices in Stillwater (I'm looking at you Mon Petite Cheri, Oasis, Matchsticks, Lolo, Phil's Tara Hideaway...etc), I'm not choosing the Capper next time I'm in town for lunch. read more

My friend and I walked into the restaurant, and found that it was a seat yourself ordeal. We sat ourselves at the bar. We were not greeted for 10 minutes by the bartender although she made eye contact with us numerous times. Once she did greet us, she got our beverages and then asked if we were ready to order. She stood by her ordering computer and shouted across the bar at first to try and take our order. I then had some questions about the menu regarding food allergies. She was very rude about this and said she did not know, and then after a couple of minutes said she would ask the kitchen. She returned and I asked her another question about the menu to which she said she also didn't know. Not wanting to be too high maintenance I placed my order - not sure what I was going to get when it arrived because of her lack of communication and knowledge of the menu. When my food arrived, it ended up being about 1/3 cup of food, drowned in about 2 cups of oil. It looked like soup, and I had ordered one of their rice bowl options. Will not be coming back - overall rude service especially from the bartender. read more

Stopped here for a late lunch/early dinner on Saturday, 12/9/23. We had a little bit of a wait to be seated with our group of 5. However, it was worth the wait! Staff were very friendly and communicative. They came up to us often while we waited to offer options for seating. The restaurant was very neatly decorated. Had some holiday decorations. We loved the leg lamp from the classic movie A Christmas Story (huge fans of the movie). They also had local paintings from artist in MN. Drinks were great. I'll be back for an espresso martini for sure. Lots of speciality cocktails on the menu. The food... we all loved everything, but realized our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We had a good laugh! New ownership brings difficult changes to accept. Mad Capper has always been one of my favorites. The new menu is rather small and lacking a lot. I wish they would at least Lee the staples that made the Mad Capper the Mad Capper, otherwise change the name and make it their own. I had the pesto chicken sandwich, it was just ok. Fries were perfect. The wild rice soup was wonderful, but again I miss all the options on the old menu had including more than one soup choice. This is such a cute, unassuming place in Stillwater. I love the ambiance and high ceilings. They have cool decor sprinkled about the inside which makes the experience even better. The burrata was soooo delicious and we licked the plate clean. The food is also reasonably priced and very filling, maybe a little too filling. We were stuffed! I loved how many options there were so all of my friends could find something they liked. The waitress was also such a darling and brought our food to us quickly.
