Visiting this Macy's made me really appreciate the Macy's near my home at Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu! Such a stark contrast between the two that I have to wonder how long this Macy's will last before it closes, if Lakeside Mall doesn't decide to shut down first! This was my first time visiting Lakeside Mall in well over a decade, maybe close to two decades. Although my memories are vague of Lakeside Mall and the Macy's here, I do remember it being a lot more upscale back in the old days. Unfortunately, the trend of abandoning what is old to build further north of Detroit is not a new concept. Too bad there isn't more willingness to take on the responsibility of fixing and improving what is already in existence. This Macy's feels old, and some areas of the store are a mess, but I suppose it is a sad reflection of how far the entire shopping mall has fallen since its heyday. Lots of disorganization and clothes strewn about. The discount section on the lower level of the store is large, but everything was in disarray, and I did not feel like looking through thousands of items to find something I like. The entire store could benefit from a renovation and reorganization, but I doubt that will happen given the bad shape that the shopping mall is in overall. There are still good deals to be found, and coming from Hawaii, the prices did seem slightly lower to me. The usual brands that can be found at any Macy's, including Calvin Klein and Michael Kors, are available here, so I would not rule out this Macy's entirely for formal and business attire. read more

This Macy's feels really old fashion to me, walking in the store the first thing we noticed was that it was a total mess with things everywhere, and try and find someone to help you out or answer a question (there was 1 lady we saw working and she looked stressed out) - we were hoping to find a nice summer dress for a wedding coming up but we were pretty much on our own! Nothing was in order, and it was very disorganized. We did not feel like looking through piles of dresses to find something to wear. We asked about any clearance sections and the lady yelled at us saying - "it's in the basement"!!! read more

I dont think anyone works at this store. There are usually one or two elderly women at one women's department register, and one associate at the backstage register and the rest of the bottom level of the women's side of Macys is void of employees. The clothes are always a mess, the fitting rooms filthy. Maybe instead of sending out constant coupons, Macys should try hiring a few employees to create an appealing shopping experience. I walked out on Monday without making my intended purchase because the employee behind the register just walked away from the register....leaving 5 people in line. Yikes! I understand that it was Mother's Day, but this place was absolutely trashed! There was clothing everywhere. Everything was unfolded. Some clothes were on the floor that were supposed to be hung up or folded. I was shocked at how messy every section was inside the store. It was hard to walk through some areas. My sister simply wanted levi jeans and it was impossible to find because all the different types were mixed together, and some on the floor as well. Also, it was hard to find any staff members to assist us. They had staff members working at the counter with long lines of people waiting to ask for sizes, prices, or pay for items. I was kt sure why they were going so slow. There was another working inside the booth by a rack, hanging items. My sister asked if she could look in the system for a size, abd she refused to help. She said she needed to wait in line for that. I was not impressed with the service. My sister could not wait, and found another worker willing to look. She found that there was not any in that size. I'm happy she did not wait an additional 30 minutes to find out that they did not have any. read more

My husband and I went to Macy's Lakeside Mall to get Perfume and Cologne. The ladies selling Men's cologne were wonderful. My husband purchased cologne, and is very pleased. However, we went to the woman's side to get me perfume. We were ignored by the many people behind the perfume counters, until my husband sought out help. A man helped me for all of two minutes while rolling his eyes and being downright rude. Then ignored me and walked away. We left without buying perfume, that I would have otherwise purchased. read more

Who puts a Macy's at two separate ends of the mall?! That's crazy, lol. Normally I wouldn't care because I'd only be going to shop for women's clothing (for myself) but today I needed to go the men's shop as well. For my first experience, I ended up purchasing some black jeans (women's). I wanted to use my Wow pass (extra 15-20% off) but couldn't because it was a "Special buy" ... it did say that on the Wow pass but the cashier didn't really explain it well to me. For my second experience, after trekking across the mall, I went to go buy a men's wallet for a present. A helpful associate pointed across the store to show me where they were. I got a pretty good deal AND was able to use the Wow pass, even though wallets/accessories weren't listed, I think. I was at Lakeside Macy's yesterday and I have to say it was one of the worst experiences there I had in a little while. What ever happened to their AAA customer service? Probable the same problem they have with the store its self. I will not shop at a store that tells me I cannot use my coupons if she is changing the price on my item due to it being on sale and she would not confirm what I was saying. She said no. Also very rude and unprofessional. Now I understand why there is very little shopping traffic around any more. My experience at Macy's yesterday was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a Macy's. I usually drive out to Somerset but yesterday my mom and I decided to try lakeside and boy are we glad that we did! Joe from the men's department was amazing. Our items were 30% off and he offered us the 30% off retailmenot special without us even having to ask. So all of our items were 60% off. He was very amiable and provided excellent service. We asked for boxes and he tossed in an extra one for us. He also rung us up with two different transactions and happily let me pay my bill even though I'm sure he was busy. We also were very satisfied with how tidy the men's area was! We found all kinds of stuff for my dad for his birthday. read more

Was highly disappointed in my visit to this Macy's. I wanted to take my mom shopping for some clothing, but we ended up in the "home store" side. Saw some chocolates I wanted to buy, but I couldn't find an employee to sell the chocolates to me. Went to two different registers and there was no one there. Did a lap around the floor and still no one was there. The only person I found was at a cafeteria looking counter and they said they couldn't help me, that I had to go to the other registers.... Still no employees so I put the chocolates down and left. The store itself was extremely messy, with merchandise strewn all about.... What happened Macy's? People don't want to shop with you if they feel like it's akin to rummaging through a trash pile, and even if they did shop with you, they couldn't buy anything because there are no associates there to ring you out! read more

Ive been to the impulse beauty area at Macys all the time. Its always a place i tend to stop at when i go to lakeside. Everyone is super helpful and sweet except for this one old lady. Every time she's there, I always feel super uncomfortable. She is always staring at me and following me around impulse beauty. She has an attitude and I felt like the things I wanted to buy, I had to hold them up because I felt like she was making sure I wasn't taking anything. It was really rude, and when I paid. She didn't give me the free gift that went along with my purchase, on my way out another worker (really nice) was like "did you get your free gift?", and i went back and asked and they old lady rolled her eyes and gave it to me. Next time I go, I'll stand up for myself but I always like seeing the good in people. But this old lady, i let it pass to many times. read more

So confusing at Lakeside. Two different anchor stores, one with Women's and the other with Men's. The selection here is just odd. It's like the Oakland Mall Macy's but scattered. Not even the same stuff as what is in Somerset Mall. I mean it has the same designers and departments like Polo, but the stuff you find at Somerset is just way better than the stuff at Lakeside and I find that I feel a range from odd to off-putting. Staff however is very nice, cordial and not very pushy until it gets to be the holidays, then you may have to make strange detours to avoid being spritzed by a $100 a day model that must have some obscene quota on how many people she can hose down with the latest horrorshow cologne from (insert cookie cutter, overpriced garbage designer name here). But hey, if you're into gifts, check out their kitchen wares section and they have some good chocolate boxes around here somewhere...? So come to this Macy's to get what you need, go to the one at Somerset Mall to get what you really want. read more

It's Macy's. A trademark business that has been around for a very long time. I've found myself being shown a little bit more of Macy's in the past few months, and I've got to say that while I stay out of the clothing section (due to uppity workers) I believe the other half of the store has some great selections that applies to the rest of the world. Their kitchen section is to inspire you for what you'd love to have built into your dream kitchen. Pots, pans, knifes, and that other whatchamcallit gadget fulfills all of your needs to make that dream a reality. Also a little bonus to most of the Macy's in the area. The Lakeshore Grille. A little pricy at times, however their Cobb Salad is very.. very tasty! And to cap it all off, make sure to split the Sander's Hot Fudge Cream Puff dessert! read more

OK, I don't shop here very much but I tried to get a toaster oven here twice at 2 different times. shortly after Christmas they had a Black & Decker for $19.99 and it was a nice one, came by to pick one up, SOLD OUT. they said they would order me one but will have to charge a delivery fee. No thanx. So today the wife sees that they have a even better toaster oven from Black & Decker at the same Macys for $17.99 so we make the trek Thur the cold to get one, guess what, SOLD OUT AGAIN. it was in todays sales paper and 2 hours after the store opens their out??? so we go up to the counter they said they can order and ship one to our house for free ( no delivery charge ) so we say " great " then while doing this she says " um, looks like we dont have any but Oakland mall has 30 but we have zero inventory" how can that be, it was in todays paper. she shows me the screen where this Black and Decker toaster oven is everywhere but this store, Hell, a store in Ohio has 300, but none there. so were deciding if we should go make another trek to Oakland mall ( 2x the distance from our place ) or not. Now I do admit that this Macys is very clean and friendly employees, but if your going to advertise a item, dont you think you should have that item. read more

I made a makeup appointment at one of the beauty bars. They had no idea I was coming in for my appointment.. they said they weren't even suppose to take appointments for the day I selected, in their defense I was 30 mins late. But they still attempted to do my makeup, it turned out awful. It looked like I got punched in both eyes. It took 3 separate "make up" artist to try and fix my face. If you want your make up done at Macy's I don't recommend it unless you go through Mac. Oh Macy's. You used to be an upscale place to go to, and now I'm not really sure what you are. It's the brands that I know and like that bring me in, but I'm not sure what else keeps me. I can find some of the same things at Carson's or JC Penney that you offer and I feel like I get a better deal. This location in Lakeside used to almost feel like a fancy place to go when I was a teenager or a kid, and now maybe other locations are like this but it just feels like the employees are not really helpful if you need help and everything is just kind of a mess and not well kept. It's nothing like Hudson's used to be back in the day, and it could just be the direction that department stores are going. I will stop ar this location. you can find things and get good deals, but its almost easier to go to macys.com buy something. Extremely disorganized and not clean. Multiple fitting rooms closed or blocked by racks and racks of clothes, so it is a task to find one available. Fitting rooms are filthy. It can be difficult to find what you are looking for or to find a different size. Macys at Lakeside used to be so well put together but it has obviously fallen through the cracks. Floors are dirty, carpet needs to be vacuumed, walls have marks all over them. Lines to check out or return typically take longer then normal. It's not worth my time to come here anymore. Plus, I have tried to order online and it is just as disorganized with ripped boxes, no receipts or invoices or even the wrong item shipped. read more

This Macy's location is ok. It's much more organized than it used to be. The customer service needs to be improved upon. Whenever I purchase jewelry at the fine jewelry counter, there are never enough associates so the wait is always extra long. I also wish the petite section had a better selection. But I digress.... This review is for the Lakeside Macy's Men/Home store for I know other locations will have different experiences. But my major gripe is this: not enough salespeople. Sure, everyone had to cut back. I now have to go to the drive-thru teller when I walk into my bank...but at Macy's Men/Home store the lower level is now unprofessional. Customers come in with bridal registries wanting one-on-one help looking for that one goblet the computer says is in stock but nobody can find...while I wait at the register with my product in hand. And I wait...and wait...and wait. Nobody else to ring me up, so I ether wait (as I did last night) or I set it down and leave (as I have done many times before). If the service is so lacking, then why do I still shop there? Because after I wait (and wait) the salesperson is kind, and apologetic for my wait. She helps me navigate my fist full of red coupons and brings out a sales add I had no idea about. She make me smile and reassures me the Waterford vase I picked out is the deal of the century. She makes me forget about the wait....until I return. And wait. read more

Wow is all I have to say. My experience at Macy's today was anything but pleasant; I was treated with no respect, got made seem like I was doing something wrong and then was laughed at by the associate, her name is ASHLEY L. I had to return a bathing suit that I bought together but when I tried returning them she explained I had to return them separately (which is very uncommon) she was unqualified and unable to give me my return in cash so she had to call a manager but only after she pretended to know what she was doing and I had to ask for her. The manager finally came and did my return but only for one of the transactions and then she left promptly. Obviously if I wanted the first return in cash wouldn't you assume I wanted the second one? I would but the incompetent worker didn't. She didn't follow how to do the return and then stared at me looking lost. I had to ask her multiple times to call the manager because she claimed again she couldn't do it! Before calling she stared me in the face AND LAUGHED IN MY FACE. I had to ask then for her name and she wouldn't give it to me at first. Safe to say it was a terrible experience and I hope there are consequences for this associate. read more
