OMG, I could spend all day in this damn place and still not see everything I wanted to. Definitely the best Macy's I have encountered. I have been known to overindulge here, but it's oh so worth it. Be it a lovely shirt, great pants, awesome dress, killer shoes, or sexy lingerie, this Macy's never seems to fail me. I'm glad I caught onto their little game of sending me coupons to entice me to back there and buy more stuff, so I don't go here quite as much as I used to. "I love the Jeans and Clothing at Macy's, but I have to comment on the Shoe Department. Their Shoe Department is the reason for the well-deserved super low rating. Although the selection rivals Nordstroms, the service of the sales staff in the shoe department is HORRIBLE. I have given the department a "second try" four times now. Each time I go there, I wait and wait and wait to find a sales person. They won't make eye contact. Once I finally find one, they take 10 minutes to get me one pair and then tell me they didn't have it in my size. This happens almost every time I ask for a pair. When I am lucky and they dont run off right away, I ask them for my second choice pair. If they have it in my size, some times, if it is snug or lose, I may want a size up or down, but I have never been able to get the sales person's attention again to get an opportunity to ask them. Once I take the shoe to try it on they disappear without seeing if the size works or not. And the cycle for customer service begins again. Also I think there is a turf war between sales associates that keeps non busy ones from even approaching persons who are receiving mediocre service from their salesperson. Just to give you a picture of how bad the service is, last time I foolishly went to Macys looking for shoes (while I was dealing with my above described scenario), I saw two gals next to me working with two different sales associates who wanted to get their shoes put on hold. One sales person told their customer Macys could not hold shoes. While she was still there, the other salesperson came up and the other gal asked if hers could be held. The sales person said OF COURSE! When the first sales gal heard this she stuttered a bit and then conceeded that she could hold the shoes too! I was appalled that the first sales person lied. It was probably to pressure the gal into buying the shoes. I would estimate Macys has lost at least a thousand dollars in shoe sales just on me because of their deplorable service. Also, I should mention I was never dressed like a bumm or like I couldn't afford these shoes, so that doesn't explain the bad service either. They need to hire more shoe salespersons who care about customer service. For a store that is trying to compete with Nordstroms and Neiman Marcus, they really need to up their customer service." read more

I have a piece of plastic that I take into this store and they just let me have ANYTHING I want. It's pretty cool. Sometimes it's hard to track down one of the people that are supposed to be looking at your little plastic card because they are always so busy with whatever is going on inside their little heads. Went to Macy's after work to grab some new foundation. I don't wear much and the last three makeup artists who consulted with me convinced me to buy foundation that turned me orange. There was someone being consulted with at Benefit, but the girl could have at least acknowledged my presence. I was ready to spend whatever was needed but she sucked so I wandered around. I ended up at Inglot. The guy was super friendly and helpful, explained Inglot is from Poland and they also own Makeup Forever I think. He explained the makeup is water based but they use gel to keep it from running. Stuff like that which makes me happy because I had never heard of Inglot so some background information - without asking for it - was great. He asked me a few questions and recommended powder foundation since I don't like thick coverage or wear much makeup at all. He spent time finding the right color and had no issue applying the foundation to my whole face so I could tell if I was orange or not. I wasn't! He also recommended some blue toner thing from Smashbox which is supposed to tone down the natural orange under tones in my complexion. He really attended to me which I greatly appreciated because I work in customer service and never know why I don't receive the same customer service I provide. He provided it! He also gave me the greatest information ever - if you don't like the product you can exchange it! EVEN IF IT'S OPENED! Super excited to see how these products work out and even more excited to exchange them if they don't! Three stars because of the Benefit beezy, but I will adjust accordingly when I return to Inglot! read more

I love this Macy's, just not the accessories/ make up/ watches floor. It's too crowded and tourist filled, but I love that there are 2 restaurants, Starbucks, and the Post Office. I like to see the hidden sales on my way to run errands and I love sitting on the 4th floor in Starbucks and watch people load their tour buses for the day. Not to mention the mini food court in the basement for a fast meal at a decent price, and don't forget about Ben & Jerry's! Always a nice spot to get some ice cream and escape the crowds. It just needs some updating and elimination of some displays, other than that it's a great place to go. I recommend going into the bathroom on the 6th floor. Its like a jump into a different era. read more

RACIST I saw a humiliated African American man with his children get racially profiled today. He was on the 3rd floor looking at items from the brand Theory, and when he was going to try them on, a white women with red hair and middle aged rushed up to him and told him "Theory items can't leave the area" The African American man in his business casual shirt and slacks looked confused and he simply gave the items back to her. I then left the area to try on a couple shirts and she said absolutely nothing. She didn't have a problem with any of the other customers leaving the area as well. The man then looked somewhat humiliated having seemingly realized that the women was passively aggressively accusing him of shop lifting. I felt so terribly bad for him, he had been publicly humiliated in front of his children. How are you supposed to try on clothes like pants w/o leaving the area? I've never heard anyone say this to a paying customer, it's simply asinine and disgusting. Shame on you Macy's. I used to be a loyal customer, but i'm nevee coming back here. I went to exchange a pair of earrings I had bought at Macy's over 7 months ago. The saleswoman was extremely helpful with the process and went out if her way to make sure that I got the best sale prices and discounts i could. She didn't have to go out of her way, but she did, although it was a bit hard to understand her (thick accent). The store wax clean, inviting, and even had a security guard at the doors. Everyone shops at Macy's! I actually thought this is a better Macy's compared to the rest in the bay area. I went to the macy's in Walnut Creek and downtown Stanford Mall, the atmosphere was unpleasant. Clothes were totally disorganized and service was extremely dreadful. But, downtown Macy's has exceptional selection of fashion and affordable luxury. I also think Macy's in San Fran has shaped Union Square to more vibrant and a tourist shopping destination. read more

the new impulse department... WOW... i haven't been to this macy's in awhile and finally went there yesterday when i heard they improved their impulse department. it's nice and spacious and quite... well fashionable. you can actually find things now. i ended up dropping two bills on a pair of jeans there last night... ouch. i know... but that's the price you pay for for nice denim. anyway their selection of seven for all mankind is ridiculously huge! and i love it! their other selections... well there were only a few to choose from... joe's, citizens and antik denim. so... as far as variety goes... it kinda sucks. good thing seven jeans fit me almost perfectly. flloor 2 - shoes. who doesn't love this place? they have everything you can imagine (almost everything). avoid sale days and weekends. macy's almost always has some kinda sale going on. floor 5 - lingerie. yes, they have calvin klein and a huge selection of it. i wait for the CK sales before i stock up. and believe me, i stock up. they have all this new fun stuff now too. although they don't carry hanky panky, they do have rampage, which has some fun pieces. floor 6 - bedding, sheets & towels. oh... i LOVE this section too. just love it. big big variety. it's hard for me to find shirts that i like (i don't know why... weird body shape). you would think that a store this big would have something for me in that department but they don't. i guess it might just be me. my mom does all her shopping here and she always finds something and always find tops. hmmm... sounds like its just me. so when you're finally tired of shopping. go down to the cellar and get yourself a snack. they've got jamba juice (yum) and boudin's (my 2 favorites there). read more

Pretty crowded but this Macy's has everything, even a food court in the basement. There are a bunch of bathrooms down by the food court as well which can definitely come in handy. Be careful when navigating the crowds, there were so many women crowded around the escalator because they had set up a handbag sale there which made it extremely difficult to get through =/ read more

I like their shoe department, their sales and the fact they let me bring my dog shopping. The cheesecake factory roof is a great way to spend a sunny day post shopping (minus dog) with folks from out of town, enjoying the view of the square. If you are not white dont shop in the maternity section theres an old white lady that stalks you. I was visiting San Fransisco for the weekend and was shopping for maternity clothes for myself. Every store I went into was a dead end until Macys. I was excited that they had a real maternity section of clothing that I could actually try on instead of just look at online before purchasing. An older sales woman approached me as I was looking at some overalls and offered me some assistance I said I was just looking and thanked her. This women was relentless she wanted to take the clothes I had to hold at the counter, I said no i can hold them. She left then came back and said she could start a fitting room for me, I said no again and added I can hold them. I didnt realize that she was following me around the store until my husband stood off to the distance and said, I'm standing over here before I get irritated. When I finally decided to try on the clothes she insisted on holding them and then when I was in the room she insisted on standing outside of the door. I had to tell her, I'm fine for her to finally leave. I was literally only in this section for 15-20min. And she approached me every 3-5min the whole time I was there. It was so annoying I decided to put all the clothes back and leave. read more

Terrible. No, really, just terrible. I bought a suit 8 days ago, no alterations needed. Said they would ship it to my office. My suit has never arrived. Have you ever tried to deal with Macy's over the phone? Impossible. Absolutely dreadful experience. I can't talk to anyone in the suit department, can't talk to anyone except Macy's dot-com. They are zero help, they don't know where it is. I've been on the phone for an hour trying to get my clothing. Ugh, just so frustrating. I wonder if their customer service has anything to do with why all of their stores are closing? Oh, this just in!!! The Macy's dot-com people have told me that they cannot find my order via the tracking number, told me everyone at the store is busy helping other customers and they can't pick up the phone. Told me I best just go down to the store. I said I'm 27 miles away. They were very sorry about that. I'm kinda thinking this is not a place I'll probably shop at again as in ever. Today I went to buy 11 watches for my groomsman. Instead I ended up standing in front of the watch counter for over 12 minutes. These two store associates looked at me a few times since I was standing less than 10 feet away. They must have found their conversation more important than helping me. I walked around and the store had more associates than customers. They were on their cell phones or talking to each other. I only found one helping a family. Needless to say I decided to leave and take my business elsewhere. I now understand why Macy's is hurting. This Macy's is a terrible place to shop in.. (BTW, I'm just doing a review about their clothes section on 4th floor). The clothes are a bit damaged, I mean make up stains, threads hanging, buttons missing. etc. The sales associates are quite rude too, the ladies who were behind the counter didn't even greet me, and were a snob when I was paying for my purchases. This place reminds me more of Ross/Marshalls, clothes every where.. Workers who are unprofessional. Also beware of their dressing room, its really disgusting. I will not shop clothes here. But on the other note, I love there fragrance dept. Now the people working in this area are nice and sweet, they always hook me up with freebies, and free samples on perfume.. Sales incentives sure can cause strange behavior. My sister and I went lingerie shopping here two days ago, and were both working with a different sales person in the bra area. I went over to buy panties, and another saleslady helped, though she knew I was being helped by the first lady. She then started following me around the floor... I started walking faster and could hear her shoes speed up behind me! When I went to pay with the first salesperson (who had been helping me for 1.5 hours), the third woman tried to jump in and steal the sale. WEIRD. They seem to have territories of lines they don't cross, but I wanted to shop the entire lingerie dept. not just one territory. Although I thought it was strange,the reason I give 3 stars to a store that is really a fun store to shop in as that they were sold out of my size in most lines. I'm an average american size - they always had 34c's, and 38d's, but for us average sized girls, 80% of their lines were sold out in my size. :( next time, I'm lingerie shopping at Nordstroms - they may have less variety but they do a better job of stocking sizes or shipping you what they don't have. read more
