I went in today to Macy's as a new mom to overhaul my makeup at the mac counter. Not only did the lady tell me that I needed an appointment (I was the only one in the area & generally in the makeup area) she rolled her eyes at what I was doing already for makeup and refused to guide me at all. She was incredibly rude so I packed up and drove to the Boston store at west town mall and spent more than I was planning because the girl who helped me elsewhere gave mac the reputation and went above & beyond. You would think when I told her I was going to buy a list of makeup, she would at least try to be nice to make a sale. Not worth the effort to drive to hilldale for this Macy's. read more

The Clinique counter staff at Macy's Hilldale in Madison is very helpful, warm, friendly and professional. Viktoria took my number and called me when an item came in that had temporarily sold out. Happy and quick transaction. read more

I have been shopping at Macys in hill dale ever since my son did hyperveric chamber treatments when he was in middle school so im thinking 2011 approximately . they have a wonderful collection of clothing and choices .we are from iowa and its great to go to a store that understands handicapped kids and the clerks are very kind and understanding .I love the Eileen fisher dept I see choices I dont have from iowa.its wonderful .I only come twice a year and they remember me by name. the fine jewelry dept is wonderful also . I buy most of my jewelry from Macys they have a great selection especially the levian brand . levian is very expensive in regular jewelry stores when they have a show . Macys offers levian at more affordable prices. the pieces are with in the normal persons price range .also Effy choices are great also and if they are out of it they will order it if you see something online they will order it for you .I love Macys you dont have to go to Chicago its all right in Macys at hilldale read more

Beware if you get their credit card. They add a so called Credit Protection Service via a easy to miss box when you enroll. Check your statement carefully for this service and god luck canceling it. The 800 telephone tree at the customer service sends you to a fast busy signal. read more

When this store was Marshall Field's, I was a regular shopper. It was always clean and neat with friendly associates who were willing to go the extra mile to make you happy. Fast forward to 2014 and Macy's. This store is in constant disarray. It amazes me how crammed the racks are. It makes it difficult to walk in departments without getting hit in the arms or the back. There selection of Men's big and tall is totally non existent. Every department is either so jumbled with clothing that it is impossible to shop or their tables are just piled (not folded) with so much stuff that you just wanna pass it by. Then there is the subject of their employees. RUDE. They could care less about how their department looks. All they are concerned with is when is my shift over and when do I get paid. There are many other choices that I have to shop at and I will always choose those over Macy's. read more

Macy's - Total mess!!!!!! - Department Stores Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

I have to start by saying that I almost never go into Macy's. Here in Madison it is located in a rather upscale mall that caters to an older adult crowd. Today I was in the area and decided to kill some time. I really want to like Macy's. I started in the bag department and they had some nice things. Here is the thing they are soooo over priced. I then went into shoes and then to the plus size women's area. I ended my time in lingerie. I could not find anything I was willing to buy. They have good quality goods but why would I pay double? For the most part the staff was also not friendly. I met one sweet lady in the lingerie department. read more

I went to the bedding/housewares department today to buy some sheets and towels and the one checkout counter was not staffed. I asked a stocking clerk nearby about where I could check out and she said any counter so I lapped the floor trying to find another checkout area and found none. I finally found an associate assisting another customer at the far end of the department and they finally made their way up to the checkout counter. When I asked why the checkout was unstaffed, she rudely said "welcome to retail today." This Macy's store is very disorganized and has terrible customer service. The clothing departments are a such a mess that it looks like the store is going out of business. What happened to Macy's? read more

I must admit... this particular Macy's is pretty ghetto and very disorganised. You're better off ordering online. I've been to Macy's in Minnesota and in New Jersey and they've seem to hold up to it's name and brand. But this one... it seems... where's the pride in this establishment? I keep going back to try and give it a chance but I'm at the point where I don't even bother anymore. Boston Store or even Marshall's would capture my attention way before Macy's. It has sadness written all over it. Now I won't dog the customer service there but it is hard to find someone knowledgable in where things are placed to help you find something. Maybe it's because it's so disorganised that the employees don't even know where things are placed. You want to go digging for products, go to Macy's. If you want something in particular, order it online. read more

The Finish Line in this Macy's is excellent. Jeremy provided unparalleled customer service.

It's a nice department store in my neighborhood. I come here for fragrances and accessarys like socks, purses, sun glasses. I hope it continues to stay in Madison as it is a good anchor store for Hilldale Mall. read more

I was a little surprised to see so many negative reviews about this location! My husband and I went in on Monday, 11/30, to look at a few Michael Kors handbags; unfortunately we were short on time and didn't get to see the entire store. However, the parts that we did tour (Men's clothing and the handbag area) were both extremely clean, organized and seemed to be surprisingly well-stocked with popular/good looking items. We had been a little disillusioned recently, by other department stores, due to lack of selection. A lot of places seem to be falling off the cart when it comes to knowing what is "in style" now. We were both happy to see that this Macy's location was not one of them. When we came to the handbag area (which was also very clean and nicely laid out) a very pleasant older woman (I think her name was Sandra) greeted us and informed us of a pre-sale that was going on. We walked out of Macy's having reserved 2 Michael Kors handbags (I'm a lucky girl this Christmas! : ) . However, we probably would not have gotten two, if it weren't for Sandra, who gave us the 25% pre-sale discount on BOTH bags (one of which was already marked down as "on sale"). I went into this Macy's not really expecting to see a good selection of handbags, but I was pleasantly surprised. Because of their willingness to work with you on price, I WILL return to this Macy's. :) read more

The Macy's in Madison is awesome, it's better than any other Macy's in the Midwest. If you need a suit, it's worth driving to the Madison Macy's to get it. The gentlemen who work in the men's clothing department will make your shopping experience spectacular, especially if you have no idea what you're doing. It's not expensive either, I got leather bottomed shoes, a tie, two shirts, and a slim-fit bar III suit for under 400 bucks. Save yourself time, energy, and money by driving to the Madison Macy's if you live somewhere like Iowa and want to buy a high quality suit that fits you well. read more

Visited last Tuesday. Store was very dirty, messy, and no one around to assist me. Not the Macy's I remember.

Was not very helpful finding alternate sizes. Employee at the fitting rooms was very rude. Costumer service was below average.

I visited Macy's at Hilldale this morning. There is a clerk/saleswoman named Ji that deserves recognition. She is the most helpful, sincere, positive, friendly, kind, humble, salesperson I have ever met. I go there quite often and have experienced or witnessed this many times. Others could learn from her behavior as this is not the normal in today's retail environment. read more

I appreciate having a Macy's at Hilldale and have always found the staff to be cheerful and helpful. No, it's not a trendy, hipster store, but it carries nice quality products at reasonable prices -- and shopping at Hilldale is much safer and more pleasant than going out to West Towne. read more

The worst thing about Hilldale! Seriously I absolutely love the Hilldale mall, yes the stores are over priced, but the atmosphere, landscape and selection makes up for that! Unfortunately, Macy's is the bad apple, it's old, run-down and a waste of the space it takes up. There is NEVER an associate to ask for help, checkout lines are long and the store barely has any merchandise, especially in the shoe department. This store looks like it's going out of business, and hopefully soon it will. read more

Macy's is not Marshall Fields, nor will it ever be. Maybe it is more like Marshall's, without the low prices. It is 100 degrees inside, and trying to move around the obstacle course of products jammed in the aisles is annoying at best. God help you if there is ever a fire. read more

Are they closing the Madison store? Unbelievable experience. Not good. Went into cosmetics and asked for Origins eye makeup remover. Was told it was out of stock, but they could order it for me. Wandered over to Lancome and asked for 4 different items and they were out of stock. I wanted to take advantage of their gel, but were out of stock on the gift components. I gave up on Lancome and went to Ester Lauder as I was interested in trying a new radiant stick foundation. The rep was sweet but knew nothing. I had to choose my own color and then put it over my existing foundation since she never offered me a seat or to remove the makeup I was wearing. Finally, in frustration, I asked for a sample, which she gave me as she ran to wait on someone else, leaving me to touch up my own blush. Note: I went to use the sample of the makeup today and there was not enough product in the sample to cover the head of a pin, let alone my nose! No effort at any of the counters to show, suggest or demo. No wonder Macys doesn't stock their stores. I also shopped shoes which looked like the sad end of a liquidation sale. Such a dismal experience that it will be a long time before I ever darken a Macy's door again. read more

Drove 30 minutes to purchase shoes. Not concerned about price but looking for a brand (Johnston and Murphy) specifically carried by Macy's. Clerk in shoes walked off didn't offer help. Went to customer service with styles I liked both stating available in wide. Customer service rep says no only option is larger sizes no wides only medium. Wasted trip. Rude service. read more

It's always super hot in Macy's makes it hard to shop if you want to try on a lot of clothes. However, compared to the other department stores in Madison Macy's has a nice selection. I enjoy their makeup counters and perfume selections! read more

The makeup/perfume counters are understaffed BUT the Men's Suit/Formal Department is awesome: good selection, great sales. Ask for Ryan in the suit section you won't regret it he's excellent and so helpful! read more

Ok, it's Macy's. We all know them, but I wish that Marshall Fields was still around. I hate going through racks of clothing so jam packed it can become impossible to shop and browse. They've tried to make this a first class experience (and I'm only giving 3 stars cuz of good name brands and customer service) but this messy and small store is nothing like Macy's on Michigan Ave in Chicago. read more

Went in to buy 6 suits for a wedding and no one was around to help. We asked someone from a different section for help and they said the person working wouldn't be back for an hour. How can the men's section have no one around to help? Horrible service. read more

The salesmen, at least in the suit department, are always extremely helpful and patient, and always go the extra mile. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 is because sometimes they contradict each other as far as what should be altered or is appropriate for my occasion, which makes me think some might not know exactly what they're talking about, but they're always pretty close. read more

Went in to get make up for my wedding. The clerk was very nice and helpful until we went to pay for our purchases. We decided not to purchase the cleansing brush. As soon as we did so the clerks attitude changed. She got snotty with us and she litterally tossed our bag on the counter and then turned her back on us. Totally disappointing that we were treated this way even though we still spent a significant amount of money on make up products. read more

The woman with the dark hair bob style is very rude to customers especially with children. If you have children she is not kid friendly and sooooooo rude. Macys should be ashamed for hiring someone like her. She has NO Customer service skills and belongs in no such place. place needs updating. Have been to other Macy's that look a lot better. Also selections are limited compared to other stores. As usual, coupons never work on anything. read more

Well today I've had a change of heart. Two weeks before Christmas and I have decided on a particular gift. I can either go to Macy's or order on line. However since I have these coupons, it may be smarter to go to Macy's. I walk in and it appears to be slow. (It's Wednesday, around 5-ish.) I have arrived at the counter and there is no one. I look around and I see one single girl two counters away. But where is the girl for this counter? Perhaps she's in the office or bathroom.... 10 minutes later, nothing. Seriously! I'm here to drop $1,200.00 on a Movado watch. Do you NOT want my business? I already know which one I want. This can only take but 5 minutes. Ugghhhhhh! Ok, I walk towards the cosmetic counter and give them yet another try since I out of foundation. No one there. Again! I see three girls, one doing make up, another talking and the third walks past me, puts 2 boxes on the counter and leaves. Ahhhh helloooooo. Is this a joke? Where is the manager? It's dead in here, there's absolutely no business going on. It's rush hour for crying out loud. After 30 minutes, I left with no watch and no make up. I decided Amazon will have to do regardless of their coupons. On the upside I will able to pick up my merchandise at WholeFoods, the next day. MACY'S???? YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS, BIG TIME!!! read more

I see I am not alone in what I think about Macy's. I went there a few months ago just to look at the clothes, and immediately thought how unorganized it was. It was so full of junky clothes, and so stuffed together, you could not find anything if you wanted to. I could not find anything have-way cute. I remember years ago, when I believe it was something else, that this happened, and it was finally sold. I just can't remember to whom. It has been so many places. Then today I went in to buy a little girl's dress, and there really wasn't any defined signs what the sizes were. Everything packed in, and, to me utterly junk. My niece also agreed with me. Also a sales clerk agreed with me. I feel they are getting ready to sell. I felt the people that owned Macy's really didn't care about the store ever.. Sometimes, they make more money running it down then selling. It use to be classy. However, the last time that happened was when it was Gimbels, and maybe Marshall Fields. I have to say, that Boston Store at least on the East Side keeps things organized. Even the West side one is better than Macy's. read more
