Loved the new design of the restaurant. Seated at 4:15pm as a party of two. Our waiter had two large groups of 5 plus and two additional 2 tops. He was overwhelmed from the beginning. Took 20 minutes before we were ever asked a drink order. Had to get up and get my own napkins. Soup came out quickly and was luke warm. We both ordered the prime rib. It was cooked to order but no au jus and was it was also luke warm. Veggies and pasta were just ok. The substitute fries were the only thing piping hot. They say all good things come to an end... I've been waiting to go back since they reopened. It is definitely not the same Old Macs but I had high hopes. I should have known by the half empty parking lot and empty bar inside. The remodel is well done but what counts more to me is the kitchen, old recipes and service. I was too afraid to ask how much they charge for a drink! No more call sign. We were sat quickly, the waitress did not acknowledge us for a while but dropped off bread, soup and salad to start. Kind of like a way to keep her children quiet while she does other work. Finally she came back for our drink order. It felt very bright inside and the service very rushed. The drink cups are super large and straws sank below the brim. I asked for lemons but never received them. No napkins either, accompanied by many apologizes for absent mindedness. An empty drink for some time, then asking for a refill, explains the type of service we received. Our meals came pretty quickly. Almost designed to get you in and out, and turn tables over quickly. Not the good old times where things felt more warm, cozy and family style. I only ate about half of my soup and salad by the time our entrees arrived. I was in shock to see one piece of calamari for $20 meal. It was cooked very well though. Sadly my vegetables had some natural black mold that was not trimmed off during the cleaning process. I did not try the pasta, it looked overcooked but a decent amount on the plate. The value is steep for the quality of protein and lack of service. I will not be ordering this again. The really upsetting part was the first order of prime rib we received, second to the end cut, very small and half well done (pictured) but for the recently raised cost I asked for them to bring a new piece and I'm glad I did. It was cooked nicely but we noticed the Italian herbs had been replaced with a heavy salted crust. The old world home style cooking, the taste we loved and came back for, just isn't there anymore. Sides which included the soup, salad, veggies and pasta were all underwhelming and made to feel like you are getting a complete meal but none of them were really that good. The soup was thick and beany, lacked salt and was lukewarm. We found some fibrous stems of broccoli and cabbage core in the soup and on the plates, showing the lack of attention to detail in food preparation. The salad dressing had an unusual sweetness. Vegetables were not seasoned. The bread and butter were minimal but warm and the only really familiar part of the meal. I did leave full, but I also left knowing I needed to cancel my plans to come back with friends in two weeks . The price, service and recipes are not worth a return visit. If I never experience the original, I might think it was good but not for the location, price and service. I later read recent reviews which are similar to mine so I know this was not just an off night. I hope management does read this and view it as constructive criticism because I do desperately hope it gets better so I can go back and charge my mind about the new ownership. read more

Today we went for dinner and the only thing it has changed is new staff! And you will absolutely love them, Birdie was our hostess she greed us with a smile she was attentive and nice, we didn't like the table she assigned to us and she didn't mind moving us to a table that was also available. George was our waiter he was funny and at all times made sure we had everything we needed. The people from the table across from us were not happy with their food but he resolved it right away! We got all our food exactly how we wanted, we got red snapper fish, 2 ribeyes with fries and 1 prime rib with a loaded potato. The waiting time for 4 was pretty average we waited just a bit. And oh my the bread still the same it was so fresh and hot ! Definitely we will be coming back , besides the prime rib my favorite was the customer service !!! read more

I am updating my review since new ownership. I am so disappointed with how bad their food is now. I ordered the prime rib medium rare and it came well done. The aus Jus on the side was literally oily pan dripping. The pasta and pasta sauce tasted canned and was cold. The vegetables were mushy. My cousin ordered the ribeye and it was the thinnest steak I have ever seen. Before it was just as thick as the prime rib. The garlic bread was nothing to write home about. We also ordered a dirty Shirley and there was zero soda in the drink. It was vodka and grenadine. The glasses have also changed and the prices have increased. Mac's is back! Same recipes that everyone knew and loved. The prices have increased modestly. Still a steal. I'd be hard pressed to find a full prime rib meal complete with soup, bread, pasta and veggies for under $15! They don't ask how you want your prime rib cooked, but ours was a perfect medium upon arrival. The pasta is totally overcooked just like before, so I'd go for the upgraded fries next time. I was happily surprised we walked in and were seated right away for lunch at 11:30am on a Friday. Service was pretty slow, so hopefully things run more efficiently as they get into the swing of things. Now accepting credit cards with a 3% fee. read more

This new Macs old house in my opinion has ruined the name and the reputation. The service is horrible, the food was even worse than the service. The bartender was on her phone yelling at someone letting them know her daughter was at a game... and to top it off, she was rude as F. I understand wanting to open up the restaurant to serve more people, but it has lost the charm and family environment that Macs old house used to be. It seems that they have skimped on the ingredients to save money. Just not what it used to be. I will never go back unless they bring back the old menu, ingredients and service. read more

I had high hopes for this place. I became a regular since opening, came to see our server Angelina and was told she know longer works there. To be honest my wife and I saw that coming. Seems like the "manager " forces people out. She wasn't the only one who left. We had Sheri as our server, the food was amazing. Tasteful and presentable but the service was rude. Seemed like she wanted us out because we asked about the server. She ignored us till we were done but was quick to give us the bill. This place will not survive. I have not been to Mac's since the 90's. We liked it because it was good, prices and the staff. We went to new ownership restaurant for lunch. The remodel is beautiful. The staff were okay and the food was not good. The menu is a complete lunch with soup or salad, pasta, vegetables, bread, and a main dish. My friends both ordered the extra cut prime rib with salad. They disliked the prime rib, it was not medium well and not a good cut. It did not look appealing to me. I ordered the calamari steak with minestrone soup. I disliked my calamari cut but the minestrone soup was delicious. And we all agreed the bread and pasta was distasteful. We also could not believe how small the drinks were but it was a single. The double drink was not that much larger so unsure on the triple drink size. It's questionable if we will be back. read more

We heard both good and bad comments about the newly reopened Mac's Old House. We did a last minute trip to Antioch to see and experience their food & service for ourselves. The original prices from the grand opening now has gone up to meet the demands of the higher food costs. Positives - Friendly staff & service - Taste of the foods were spot on - The remodel was done very tastefully - Parking lot is now paved Negatives - The soup was very thick & only luke warm - Quality of the meat was several grades lower than before - Check your bill CAREFULLY! Do NOT assume that they know what they're doing A. Receipt 1 showed $26.72 for the ribeye while the menu showed $24.95 B. Receipt 2 showed that they gave a $2.00 discount for their mistake. But the discount was not carried forward properly C. UPDATE: waited about 30 days from the opening to try the "new" Mac's. They did a great job on the remodel... I stopped in for lunch and was pretty disappointed. Soup was watery... But spicy and not bad, Just not as good as it used to be. Had an Italian sausage sandwich... Pretty small piece of sausage for the price. Then the waiter got my bill wrong and charged me for something I didn't even order. Took about 15 minutes to get that straightened out. A friend went there and had the chicken piccata dinner... And it was served with no capers and a couple pieces of carrot and mostly cabbage for the veg. Owners please note: It's really not chicken piccata without the capers. Everyone is pulling for you to make it... But just the facelift alone is not going to bring people back. The food has got to be consistently good. Hopefully things improve.... read more

Mac's is back with breakfast now. They are now accepting debit and credit cards. They still have the ATM and of course cash. Tried their breakfast today and it was very good. It also came quickly after ordering. Friendly service. Plenty of parking now. Hours are daily 7:00am to 10:00pm. They also accept to go orders and door dash deliveries. Give them a try ! Under new ownership 9/2026. Been here twice since their soft opening early Aug. First try was a bit off on food and soup...but we brought the family back a month later and much better. We were so excited about the reopening! 1. My rib eye steak for $25.00 was probably 1/4 inch and I could not cut it with the knife. It was at least a third fat and the rest was gristle. It was about as poor a cut as you could get. I've never seen worse. 2. The famous minestrone soup was horrible. It was thick, like sludge, with the texture of a bowl of thick oatmeal. It was tasteless. It made us think "How old is this soup?". It was borderline gross. 3. The service was slow and a bit awkward. 4. They add the tip to your bill. That did not go over well. Tried their steak and eggs for breakfast the other day. It was my first time eating at this restaurant just to see what the hype was about. The service was fine, friendly staff. The restaurant is a bit small, like going to someone's house that was built in the 40's. The food was meh. The eggs (I had them scrambled with cheese) were ok, the potatoes were meh, the steak was just nothing special. A thin cut of prime rib steak, like the size you would get from a boxed deal package from a parking lot selling ribeyes for $20. My second time here since they reopened. I saw the Cheeseburger on the menu a couple of weeks ago and saw one on a nearby table. It looked pretty good so I tried it today and it was pretty darn good! Much better than the Red Snapper entreé I had last time (the Snapper used to be big and juicy). Instead the Snapper was smaller and dry, maybe they are still working things out in the Kitchen? I've ordered the minestrone several times since the reopening of the restaurant and couldn't be happier. This particular batch was scorched, but yet the potatoes were undercooked. The cabbage pieces were very large (3 inches) and tough. I was really surprised to end up disappointed with my dinner. The chef should have smelled that it had been burnt. read more

Theres really nothing to complain about. Maybe not the best prime rib ever but its definitely not anywhere near bad, its actually pretty decent, and it's only $21. Everything was great considering the price (includes small side of veggies, pasta, a small plate of salad and a bowl of minestrone soup). You can add a baked potato or french fries for a small fee. Food and atmosphere looks great, and I really wanted to eat there. Unfortunately I wasn't aware that they are a cash only restaurant. They have an ATM!!! Yay Nope!!! Swiped my card and immediately I received multiple notifications from my bank, stating that this ATM has been used for fraudulent charges on multiple occasions. Terrifying!!! I told management and they didn't offer any assistance other than basically, too bad so sad. My card was locked for the next 10 hours from my financial institution. I really wanted to eat there. Nope not the same. The soup tastes smoky. It doesn't have the previous day prime rib tidbits . The bread portion is half of the precious amount. DO NOT ORDER the RIB EYE. It is so thin that it should be called flank steak. It came out medium well they brought me back another steak medium but it looked like they gave me someone else's order because there was leftover pasta on my plate which on the original plate I had subbed out pasta for a potatoe. I should add... the rib eye was not seasoned. Our table did not have salt or pepper . For 2 ribeyes (flank steaks) and 2 baked potato subs a soda and a hot tea $75 . I probably won't be coming here again. The old Mac's Old House was a lot better than it is now. The service during our visit was incredibly disappointing. The guy bartender, in particular, stood out for being very rude. Our server wasn't much better, though she at least seemed like she was far too busy and looked completely overworked. As for the food, it was just OK, but it is definitely not as good as it used to be. They serve breakfast now and it was great. The vibe inside the restaurant is on point and I really enjoy the old-fashioned feel of a place that just got completely renovated. We were very excited to hear someone had bought Macs. Our family has been going to Macs for anniversaries, birthdays, death anniversaries, celebrations, and just because it's Tuesdays for generations. We knew that the new wouldn't be exactly like the classic Macs we once knew and tried to give them a chance. Here are my takeaways: We sat in the new back room beyond the bar and it was very loud even though there were only a few tables back there. The open space just echoed for the rest of the room. The soup- close but not quite. More tomato based than the old version. The salad- again close but not quite. The veggies were cooked perfectly! Not mushy at all. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce was very tomato based versus the original recipe. I ordered the prime rib as the people next to me had beautiful cuts of meat and they were cooked the way they had asked for it. Unfortunately, mine was not the same experience and was well done instead of medium rare. 2/3s of my piece of meat was uneatable due to fat. There was a consistency of glue between the meat that was holding it together. I was able to eat the small middle part but that's all. When I mentioned it to the waiter he told us that it was the end of the night and it had been cooking all day so what I got was what they had. No use in telling them how you'd like your meat cooked. There was no offer of taking half my meal or any of my meal from the bill. Our waiter was kind but never asked if we wanted anything from the bar or new drinks. We asked for water. He needs to learn how to carry plates as his thumb was touching our food on the plates when he brought them. Normally I can get over that but his hands weren't clean and had lots of dirt under his nails. As a server you need to be clean and ensure that you aren't touching food on plates. Brush up on cleanliness of the staff. They have three card readers and one of them was down. I'd give it some time before I go back again. read more

The pasta sauce is not the same, nor is the pasta itself. It tastes very watery. The soup is not the same. The salad is sweeter, and the red snapper is drier. The pasta no longer comes with veggies anymore, and speaking of, the veggies aren't as buttery-- they taste like straight gasoline. AND they're tough. Not soft anymore. The servers are friendly and the staff is lovely, the place is much more spacious and they finally take card!! I just would really love if Macs could try to get the recipes down to a T again, I've read reviews on here and a lot of people are saying the same exact thing. It's unfortunate because now my family has no intention of going back, and we've been going for about 17 years. I was so excited to come back. the soup was dry with no broth to it just lumpy...........salad good waitress great prime rib just how I remember it. pasta sauce different taste not a plus and the drink I ordered was a "dirty Shirley served in the smallest glass Ive ever seen in a bar. about the size of 2 shot glasses so small it was laughable but not when we had to pay for it. my son had a bloodymary in a glass smaller than a usual restaurant one . where did they get these glasses ? The bar tender although very nice did not appear to know her craft. my margarita was fine. please put some liquid in your soup and get new drink glasses .
