We were in town for work over the Valentines Day weekend and decided to try this place downtown. It was a very cozy atmosphere with friendly staff. We started with a dozen gulf oysters. The oysters were well shucked, plump, and fresh! Then we shared a large clam chowder. We liked how it wasn't too creamy. It was well seasoned. I had the salmon salad and my husband ordered the fried combo (fish, shrimp, chicken). We enjoyed everything and the service was fast. The only downside was parking, but it's downtown so we expected it.

Service was nice, Ambiance was really nice. I feel like it used to have a really good history but maybe that was in the past. I had the gumbo and it was pretty good. There wasn't much seafood. I think it was only a few pieces of small shrimp. There was beef meatballs in it which I've never seen in gumbo. The taste was really good and I would order it again but I would get crab from a grocery store to add to it. I also got a cheese cake and I was expecting NY style but it seemed like Jello-O make at home cheese cake. It was good though. It came with a tiny piece of bread. It would be nice if they gave more than one small piece of bread. I would visit again.

Ambiance is good. I love that's it's an old building, gives it history, very tall ceiling doesn't give you enclosed feeling. The service was good. Friendly server but she kept having to go and come back because of the mix and match we ordered, didn't know the cheesecake of the day (it was after 12). The food- we ordered fried oysters and they were left. Those that tasted them were not fans- said it tasted weird, could have been the batter Ingredients? Took one bite and that was it. I ordered lobster mac n cheese which was good but waaayyyyy too much garlic pieces. I couldn't fully enjoy it. The toast was good. We ordered a slice of cookies and cream cheesecake and that was good. Very creamy. Not sure if I would revisit. Maybe order grilled salmon.

Mac's is what I call REALLY Dog friendly, allowing well behaved leashed pups to dine IN at certain tables. What a neighborhood jewel, family owned/run serving up really tasty Cajun/Seafood dishes. We had a nice little 2 top where the staff promptly brought over a water dish for our girls. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, blackened cod fish tacos and the Mahi entree. The food was delicious, prices so reasonable and the service/friendliness of the staff was truly gold standard. Save room for the cheesecake which is a must, we did the Hawaiian cheesecake and it was scrumptious! If we lived here in El Paso, we would hands down be regulars. Nice selection of beer and the whole vibe of the place is really eclectic... nice casual meets homey and artsy? Well done Mac's!

EAT HERE. You will not be disappointed. Stopped a year ago and had a fantastic meal. Here we are again. Home run. Everyone thing is absolutely amazing. Gumbo bowl is $8!!!' This is the deal of the century Shrimp and Grits. Outstanding. The restaurant is cozy and eclectic. I highly recommend you get off the beaten path and try it. Don't be put off by it being downtown. It's easy to get to from interstate 10 and parking is a breeze. Parking on street, they have meters but who doesn't have loose change they want to get rid of. I love Mac's.

This place is my go-to for amazing seafood and the best cheesecake. Service is very attentive and staff is very welcoming. My favorites are their clam chowder, oysters, blackened cod with added garlic mushroom sauce, and their cheesecake of course. The ambiance is pretty chill and casual which I love. This is also a great location for dates or to hang out with friends. Its not too much of a drinking place but they do have beer.

Really ambient interior and great service and food. They have a nice private area upstairs for parties too. The etouffe made with noodles instead of rice tasted amazing, was a unique take on that creole dish.

This place is always a joy. Stopped in for a quick lunch and had their seafood soup. It was piping hot and fresh. So delicious! You can't get more homeade, I tell you. It also had a heat that is unlike a chile or spice, maybe paprika? Very good. I also discovered their yummy French fries. Service, prices, and overall ambiance is always on point too.

After chowing down on good Mexican food for 4 days in a row we decided to get a little seafood and found Mac's just down the street from our hotel and Pioneer square. I didn't expect much cuz I really don't think about seafood when I'm in the middle of the desert, so to speak, but Mac's was straight up good! We especially enjoyed lobster Mac & cheese. Prompt service, clean environment, nice people who I assume were the owners who came by and checked on us to see if we were okay.... and we were! Good experience.

What a great local place for cajun food. The service and food were outstanding. The best gumbo and coleslaw we have had. The building is historic with lots of local artwork inside. Owners were on site and were very friendly! Will be back for sure!

Once seated the service was great. The waiting staff was very attentive. The food was great. I order clam chowder, fried oysters, shrimp and fish tacos, and a salad. The oysters and clam chowder was really amazing. The oysters were a nice size. The tacos were okay, they were a little dry. I would certainly visit again.

Delicious ! Why didn't I eat here before ??????? I always stay downtown but forget to check out these gems. I ordered the COD Fish Tacos, Ahi Ceviche and Clam Chowder. I ordered through Uber Eats so the order arrived pretty quickly. The Tacos were full of flavor and did not fall apart like I thought they would. THE AHI CEVICHE THO!!!!!!! If you're not getting the Ceviche I don't know what's wrong with you the flavor was fkn amazing and the chunks of fish were not what I expected at all. The portion of ceviche was enough for me although it was pretty expensive it's totally worth the $22. The Clam Chowder was on point and def worth a try as well. Next time I'm downtown im gonna give the Po Boy Sandwich a try! 10/10

Lunch for under $10? Yes, please. I don't remember who's order was who's, but my friend and I got the blackened fish sandwich and an order of fish tacos. I remember liking my food. Pretty good. I had the shrimp tacos and my husband had the fried shrimp. The shrimp tacos had (4) small tacos and Cajun rice. Each taco had a large fried shrimp, cabbage and a cream sauce-- they were really good. I normally don't order fried fish/shrimp for tacos bc they tend to be greasy--- these were NOT greasy and the batter was light and crispy. The Cajun rice was tasty but a little dry. My husband really enjoyed his fried shrimp and fries. Was pleasantly surprised with the amount of shrimp that were included on his dish. The staff was also really nice! read more

The same great food as always. Covid doesn't seem to break their stride. Fish tacos with that awesome slaw and dirty rice was as delicious as ever. It's so great to be able to have grilled fish tacos instead of the usual fried fish. That's rare around here. Friendly faces and great seafood. What else can you ask for? read more

My daughter, friend and I ate here before taking in a film at the El Paso Film Festival. Very prompt, friendly service, and we were invited in warmly. The menu is quite small and while there isn't a huge variety of healthy foods, (most things are fried,) the food was completely delicious! The fries were hot and mealy, and the shrimp and chicken were flavorful. Watch out for the blackened rice, it has quite a kick! Don't leave without trying the pineapple cheesecake. AMAZING. I'd eat here again for sure! read more

MY FAV NEW PLACE! The food was excellent, the services was superb. Everyone was so helpful they assisted my as soon as possible, kept checking in I never had to ask for anything they provided all. The environment is so friendly, it was like eating with my family. But the foood my lanta! So good I had the combo, the shrimp was my favorite! I wanted to try the ceviche but they ran out, but that's ok that means I get to come back and try more!! Highly recommended. read more

Came here on a hot weekday after shopping downtown and was pleasantly surprised. It's a small menu but plenty of flavorful choices. I had the honey cilantro shrimp tacos. So tasty! The rice that came along with it was also good, a little spicy too. I'm looking forward to trying it again. read more

Went there for lunch as it was near my hotel. Simple menu that is very well executed. The staff was very friendly and efficient. Probably the best clam chowder I ever had. The blackened shrimp tacos were excellent with just the right amount of kick to them. All for a very reasonable price. Would absolutely go here often if I'd lived in town. read more

Stopped in during the Plaza Classic Film Festival to get a quick bit between showings. We ordered something simple, a fish sandwich, to minimize our risk. The fish sandwich was very impressive, served on a roll with spinach and large pieces of breaded cod. It was very well balanced, served with a savory tartar sauce. The fries seemed home prepared with skins intact. They were tasty with no hint of bad cooking oil; very tasty. We will return when downtown, as this place does not overcharge for good food. read more

So good I asked the owner if he was from New Orleans . Shrimp etouffee pasta sounds weird but definitely try it because it's delicious! We also really enjoyed our clam chowder and gumbo. Refreshing to go a restaurant where everything doesn't come out of a Sysco truck and is made fresh. We're from out of town and have been eating out everyday in El Paso for 7 days and this is by far the best meal we've had! read more

Fish and shrimp tacos are BOMB.COM awesome place downtown to grab lunch, very fast and attentive service. I work in Union Plaza and it's a nice quick bike ride over to the office district. Price is about 10$ a person regardless of what you get. Place isn't all that nice but believe the food is well worth it! I'll be becoming a regular! read more

This is such a great place! Like the other reviewers I would like to remind you that the menu at the downtown location isn't long but trust me when I say that it's short and sweet for a reason. I had the fried shrimp with fries and my husband had the combo plate which comes with fish, shrimp and chicken. The plates were absolutely delicious. Not too salty or sour and the side sauces just combined the plates to perfection. We also had a clam chowder soup and it was fantastic. This place really takes me back to London. It's amazing to have a nice local fish eaterie were they really master the flavors and cooking so well. Two thumbs up! read more

Mac's Downtown is hands down the best seafood restaurant in the Southwest! Yeah, I know that's a big statement, but just try it, you'll see why I said it. They have a lot of great dishes, if you want one of the healthiest meals anywhere ask for the super salad... (it's not on the menu) it's a big tasty piece of salmon on top of a salad of fresh greens, avocado and berries! It's freakin awesome! One more thing, if you're craving fried fish the fried fish & shrimp platter never disappoints! read more

Nice spot for a quick bite in downtown El Paso with great desert. I got the Chicken, Shrimp, and Fish combo was amazing and they give you the option if you wanted fried or grilled. My GF loved the Shrimp Scampi and the Strawberry Cheesecake, great experience for coming here for the first time. read more

Located in the heart of downtown El Paso. There is nothing fancy about this place, if you're looking for fine sit down dining keep exploring. This is a small hole in the wall joint where you can eat in or grab it to go. Being from Wisconsin I've had my share of Friday fish fry. This joint runs right up there with the best of them. Again I'm not referring to fine dining. This is a you only have a short amount of time to grab something type place. Very quick service and the staff was very friendly. The fish & chips offer a generous portion of filets and fries. The fish has a crispy coating with interesting flavor. Very pleased to have found this place while roaming around downtown. read more

Really great service however the food was not good at all. Our fried seafood was overly breaded and my salmon dish was flavored nicely but the fish itself did not taste very fresh. Sides also left much to be desired :-( read more

Man was I surprised. My first thoughts were Cajun/creole in El Paso, no way! I had the shrimp tacos with rice and it was fantastic! This place is a short walk, from the office where we work when in El Paso so it was great to get out at lunch. I will defiantly be returning to eat at Mac's on my next visit to El Paso. read more

This place is simple and delicious. The shrimp cocktail and tacos are amazing. Delicious! I thought the shrimp cocktail was a bit overpriced but then again completely worth it because the shrimp are huge and plentiful. The blackened fish in the tacos were perfect, a bit of spice just right. I did not try the dessert this time around. But next time I will get a large shrimp cocktail and dessert. You must go and try it out! read more

If your looking for a place to eat downtown this place is awesome! I got the shrimp tacos and they were so good. The service was fast, the owner was friendly and attentive. My family popped by before the Symphony today. So glad we did. First its got an awsome atmosphere with really friendly folks inside. We ordered 2 chicken and chips for the kiddos and for the first time EVER the brought home fries cause thery were that perfect. My husband and I got the chowder to start...omg. Being from the east coast it was so great to get a 'chowda" that wasnt a clumpy mess. This was smooth as silk with WHOLE CLAMS..not chopped ! The seasoning was on par it didnt even need hot sauce. We also got the fish sandwhich ....which my hubs said was the best he has had in a long time and then he didnt say much else....he wolfed it down.I got the fried oysters which were perfection the breading was beyond perfect. I would show pics but....well we just ate it so fast! Lol My 12 year old has just told me she plans to stalk this restaurant since she is obsessed with it now. Im inclined to agree. read more

And the Manager doubled down on it! And said nobody back there has long hair! The salad was still in tact. I hadn't mixed it or anything! And the hair was wrapped around the whole salad! And the salad it was in the middle of the table not right infront of me! Terrible!

Our food was not served to us until one hour after ordering it. We were so confused as to the long wait but didn't say anything because we assumed it would be coming at any moment. About 45 minutes after we ordered Renee brought complimentary cornbread muffins to our table and they were good. So finally our food comes. The mac n cheese was hot and delicious. The greens were ok. The chicken leg was good but the thigh was dried out. The shrimp on the Po' boy was very good, however; I am used to having it with shredded lettuce and without Kraft American cheese. The bun was dried out and not that good. I'm not sure why the food took an hour to be served. Nothing was ever said to us.

We ordered some appetizers (mozzarella stick, chips and queso, hush puppies and shrimp) that were good. The main dish, the crab fried rice, touted fresh crab in its description. I don't expect the crab to move in my plate to prove it is fresh, but whatever was put on top of the fried rice was not crab, by any definition I have encountered. It seem it was leftover scraped crab from the day's cleaning of the shells, combined with too much pepper. WAY TOO much. The fried rice wasn't any better, could not eat much of it. The onions that were cut with an axe were the proverbial onion on your fried rice. I believe that when restaurants have something to hide, they will over season the food, so the customer can't tell it was not fresh. Very disappointed. This place is not sure what it wants to be : seafood, Southern Louisiana, Korean, Japanese or Chinese. They should pick a theme and stick with it. It's expensive for the quality of the food. Won't be back, and don't recommend.

Since the original inception of this place and our initial discovery, something has been wavering just a bit. The consistency. Ultimately, the food still tastes as great as it did the first time we ever ordered it. However, there have been a number of inconsistencies in their execution. But to name a few, there's things like.. Lack of white sauce, too much white sauce, too much spice, forgotten proteins, inexplicably missing rice, half a lobster tail's meat sticking to the shell whilst the other half breaks off with ease.. ...and SO on. At this point, it's safe to say I have mixed feelings about this place. I still LOVE their seafood. I'm just irritated by their inconsistent execution, depending on what day it is, who's working, or how many people even decided to show up to work that day. I know this probably sounds like a negative review. But let me sum this up with the following: the food is still awesome, but the execution needs some touching up. And it is with this rationale that I must update my original review from 5 stars...to 4. Still highly recommend them. But....proceed with the aforementioned caveats.
