Sunday brunch details - $18 a person, $3.50 for a soft drink so around $22 total. Buffet is very clean, great selection & everything was hot. Prime rib, bacon, sausage, eggs, eggs benedict, fresh fruit & more! They do charge a fee for using debit / credit.

I hate giving any place a low rating but there are just some things that are inexcusable. Top of that list is cleanliness. The pictures describe the issues here better than I ever could. The first thing I did when I entered was head to the restrooms to wash my hands and the condition of the sink is just not acceptable. If this is how the restrooms are maintained, what about the kitchen? I was there with a large group and, if it were up to me, I'd apologize for suggesting this spot and I'd suggest we all go somewhere else. Since I was along for the ride, we elected to stay. I ordered a plain black coffee and what I was given was extremely watered down. I'm not attempting to sound macho here where I say "I love my coffee black like mud" or whatever other analogy you can think of but the coffee was literally see through. Like... come on. How do you screw up plain black drip coffee?! Again... see photos for what I'm talking about. You don't need to take my word for it. Side note: what a strange cup to serve coffee in, haha. In terms of the food, things looked alright. I ordered a burger and sweet potato fries and the burger was cooked well. The fries were limp and greasy however and didn't have much flavor besides acrid oil. Somehow I got a single tater tot as a bonus. It was actually likely the best thing in the plate! I made a huge error in eating the food here though because, for the next two day days, I had the worst upset stomach and spent a lot of time in my OWN bathroom at home, if you catch my drift. Food poisoning is real and I should have known better, based off of the cleanliness of this place. It's a shame because the prices were fair and service was cordial.

The dirty glass she served me a tea in.

Wow, what a huge disappointment. Can't get a beer, takes 5-10 for a refill. 20 minutes to order, oh well, not in a hurry. Food comes, mushroom Swiss burger must have been cooked yesterday and warmed up, should have put it in broth if that's what you were going to do. Fries with it have been sitting for an hour or two, slightly warm. Oh my. The philly is awesome! Too bad I didn't order the old fries, so she went to get me the chips and french onion dip that I did order. They came after we were done. As my tea was empty for a bit, I went to get another since she wouldn't even look at us. Amazingly she saw that. Said she would get me one. Wonderful. Wow, look at the filthy glass she brought. Paid the bill and poor girl missed out, just a little effort, is all you need, my husband tips very well, not this time. Went to the manager, wow, she watched the video and I handed her the glass, she looked at me like I had lost my mind. No apology, no what can I do to fix it, no response.

there is a mouse in the restaurant I'm currently in and they are taking forever with the food I ordered

This picture actually makes the chips look like they are crispy but it's quite soggy and grotesque.

The offerings are limited, but they are the most popular breakfast items. Also, the staff is extremely attentive to the buffet and keeps it not only well stocked, but clean and well organized. The buffet started with fresh fluffy biscuits and milk gravy with sausage. It also had; scrambled eggs, hash browns, scrambled omelette, american fries, link sausage, bacon, patty sausage, french toast, waffles, pancakes and carve-able ham. They even had a bowl of fresh fruit. I took a sampling of everything and for buffet food, it was as good as if it were made to order and brought to my table. The servers are friendly and did frequent table checks to make sure everything was satisfying. My coffee cup was topped off on the regular, so it was always warm. Once I saw what the weekly special pasta was, I had to have it. I am a huge fan of Smoked Salmon and they did theirs in house. The pasta not only had the smoked salmon, it also had sautéed red onion, a tangy European style cream cheese sauce and cavatappi pasta with fried cappers and fresh dill. The cream sauce was perfect. It was just a light covering, enough for flavor without being overwhelming. As always, the portion was healthy, so I had leftovers for the next days lunch. I enjoyed it chilled and it was like eating a cold pasta salad. DPH always gets bonus points from me for having eco-friendly to-go vessels. My adult beverage of choice for the seafood pasta, was a glass of Pinot Gris. I prefer a Grigio, but they only had the Gris. Gris is fairly similar to Grigio. I always say, it's like a first cousin, once removed. Service is always top-notch. It doesn't matter if you are sitting at a table or the bar, you'll be treated right.

Knowledge and willing to share ingredients and labels as she helped me order Gluten/Dairy/Sugar free. We had yummy greens with eggs and turkey sausage (hold the croutons). The poppyseed vinaigrette was dairy free and just perfect. My matcha latte and Clyde's coffee latte were delicious. Troy had pizza and he loved the crust ( he had regular but they DO offer GF crust AND vegan cheese!). Sam's French Toast looked amazing in all its gluten-filled glory. We also tried the immunity shots from CJ's Juicery and they were dynamite. If we still lived here full time I'd be making the drive over from STL once a week for that breakfast salad and matcha. The menu is varied and thoughtful, altho I would love to see them find a way to offer at least one gluten free bread (I bet their avocado toast rocks!). I understand it is not an easy undertaking for small kitchens to manage proper handling of GF if it's not their focus. However I promise those on a restricted diet can absolutely find something here due to Hannah's expertise.

However, this review is about them, so let me focus on them only. If you go to Post Commons, you gotta get a biscuit. Their biscuits are homemade and they are delicious. My personal favorite biscuit sandwich is the Sausage. In addition to the sausage patty, it has cream cheese and pepper jam. The pepper jam is what really makes this sammie special. If you're wanting a more hearty breakfast, you can create your own plate with items from the A La Carte menu. I've created one with two scrambled eggs, bacon and breakfast potatoes. The potatoes are cut into little cubes and fried to a crispy golden color. It's a great place to meet friends for a cup of coffee. The staff is cordial and makes you feel welcomed. Why go to a chain coffee shop, when you have a unique one in a old post office building? There is, no reason to go. When: February 4, 2026 Why: Biscuit Sandwich

Morrison's Irish Pub - Alton, IL…read more We finally stopped into Morrison's and it delivered that cozy, old-world Irish pub charm you want when you walk through those doors. I had the Irish cheese sandwich, Justin went with the corned beef -- and both were genuinely good. Comforting, hearty, and exactly what you hope for in a pub meal. Now... the kitchen was moving a bit slow this visit. Was it noticeable? Yes. Was it worth the wait? Also yes. Because Sam -- the female bartender -- absolutely made the experience. Fun, engaging, and the kind of personality that makes you feel like you're already a regular even if it's your first visit. That kind of service turns a "slow day" into a good memory. The menu is packed with authentic Irish favorites, and honestly, next time we're absolutely going to lean fully into the classics -- because this feels like a place that does traditional comfort food right. One small wish: I really wish they made their own chips. The bagged chips were a little lackluster and felt like a missed opportunity next to an otherwise hearty, made-with-care menu. Overall: a great spot that was likely just having an off day -- and still absolutely worth your time. Don't leave without ordering the pear cider. It is absolutely fabulous. Bright, crisp, lightly sweet, and dangerously drinkable. We'll be back -- and we're coming hungry.
