Perfect place for a fresh bagel! Definitely a hot spot in the area. My favorite and go to is the classic breakfast bagel on an Asiago bagel. Loaded with cheese, regular cream cheese, fluffy egg, and a savory pork sausage patty. I also asked for a side of their homemade jams a a sweet taste for my bagel. Macon Bagels is a new bagel shop that just opened on August 25th. They are located on the corner of Poplar St and 3rd St next to Dunlap Park. If you want some bagels, I highly recommend coming within the first 2 hours of opening. From what I have seen firsthand and on their social media, they sell out of their bagels within about 2 hours. After that, they will just have pastries, scones, muffins, and cookies and of course coffee and tea. We went during their soft opening a little before 10am. Because this was new, a lot of people were waiting in line. It took us an hour to make it through the line and place an order and another 10 minutes until our order came out. Lauren was warm and friendly. When we in line had made it to the door, she stepped outside and warned everyone they were down to the last few bagels and apologized. Luckily, we were one of the last few people in line to have a chance to order a bagel. There was only Sesame Seed Bagel left, which was fine as long as I got a bagel. On one bagel, we added Kimchi Shmear and on another, we added Benedictine Schmear for a total of $4.50 each (pre-tax). The Kimchi might sound weird, but rest assured the Schmear is still predominantly cream cheese. It's not like there are big chunks of cabbage or spring onions. I would say the kimchi flavor is light and not overpowering with a hint of spice. The Benedictine is made with cucumber and I do taste it. Sometimes the flavor disappears because it's quite subtle, but it will pop up again on the next bite. We also ordered a tub of Garlic Herb Schmear to go for $6. I have to say this one is my favorite out of the three I've had so far. I've been eating it with my breakfast almost every day since I bought it. Partially it's because I don't know how long until it goes bad, but mainly because it tastes that good. It has a savory taste and you can actually see bits of the herbs. The shop is sandwiched between the Union Furniture Company and The Dannenberg Lofts. In fact, there is a door that connects the Lofts inside the shop. The tenants are lucky to have quick access to bagels. The interior feels spacious. The ceiling is high and the tables are spread out with lots of room to move. There are several decorations with bagel themes All around the walls. Lastly, all the parking spots are metered in this area. Next time I'm in Macon (early in the morning), I will be sure to come back. I have yet to try their special Adobo Cheddar Bagel, made with smoky chipotle and cheddar cheese. read more

My rule of thumb: bagels aren't good unless they are from NYC. However, these are really good. We needed a good bagel place in Macon. I arrived at 1pm, and sadly they were out of all bagels but cinnamon raisin. So, if you're reading this and want a bagel...go early! I love cinnamon raisin bagels and this tops it. There's gobs of cinnamon sugar embedded in the bagels. A mouthful delight. I also got it with the honey pecan schmear and loved it. Give it a try. I love Macon bagels! The owners are so nice and the location is so cute right in the heart of downtown Macon! I recommend the out of towner bagel because it is the absolute PERFECT mix of flavors, I live in downtown and love bagels so you'd think I've tried a lot of their bagels but the out of towner is so good I can't stop getting it.
