Stopped here for brunch while on a road trip with the family. Always a little apprehensive when walking into a small local place while traveling, but the staff here were all so welcoming and friendly, from cashier to cook, they all checked in with us (but not overbearing) and were super friendly. The food was very good and had a nice homemade quality. You will get styrofoam plates and plastic utensils so don't go in thinking this will be anything more, but quality meal and I really can't say enough about the friendliness of the service. We visited Tommy's for the first time from out of town on a Saturday morning for donuts. I don't know why Tommy's gets such great reviews. I'd say the donuts were average at best. I hear they're the best in Macon. That may be true, but it's unfortunate for the good citizens of Macon. If you're looking for an old school, local cafe, this is it. They've got a few tables inside, and a couple outside for seating. The single person behind the counter seemed like she'd much rather be somewhere else. Not too friendly at all - almost an inconvenience that we were there. There were some small cartons of salads and dips in the fridge next to the check out. They looked really good. It's a quaint little restaurant, have stopped for doughnuts several times. This was my first time actually dining in. Went for lunch with my mom last Saturday. Arrived a tad after 1pm and they close at 2pm. I ordered the Spicy Grilled Pimento Cheese Sandwich and fries. Wasn't honestly a fan, as the textures and flavor didn't mesh well. The wheat bread was toasted but the pimento cheese was still cold. The fries were good though. My mom advised she wished she had picked a different bread for her chicken salad, I would have definitely done the same. I probably should have stuck to a regular grilled cheese. I understand it was nearing closing time, but we felt a bit rushed. 45min would have been plenty of time to eat a sandwich and fries/chips, that neither of us finished. The staff kept our cups full, but also mentioned they were about to shut down the machine. What seems like 2 minutes after bringing our food out they were back asking if we needed to go boxes. This is a friendly neighborhood bakery and café with a lot of foot traffic. It is obvious that this business is supportive of the community by the plaques and trophies on display. I really liked the table near the entrance full of local business cards and different brochures which is a noble gesture. The baked goods and the coffee were fresh and very good. The BLT was made to order and also tasted good. We ordered to go; I wish the BLT would have had a parchment liner along the bottom half of it for better access and handling. We weren't given napkins. The butter cream filled donut is good BUT they fill it with a lot of buttercream - so you may want to scoop out some LOL - not that I am complaining. Lois gave us a sample so we could taste test the buttermilk vs sour cream doughnut holes. Their cake doughnuts are ON POINT! We walked away with these doughnuts: apple fritter (warm this sucker up, and its almost better than a Dutch apple pie), maple-bacon, blueberry cake, strawberry cake, buttermilk cake (I liked this one better than the sour cream), and devils cake (staple chocolate) In addition, we added a few doughnut holes and topped it off with...yes...a cinnamon roll. Ladies and gentlemen, they brought out not 1 but 2 to choose from. But get this, both were like a coffee cake size. We chose the cream cheese frosting over the carmel. I have read many reviews praising this establishment particularly their breakfast but here's my story. My wife and I stopped in here for lunch one day. No other customers. She ordered a hamburger and since the "special" was a pork chop dinner with bread and just one vegetable (Isn't 2 vegetables standard on a dinner plate?) that was what I ordered. I selected snap beans as my vegetable. I'm sitting there anticipating a minimum of one fried pork chop and maybe 2? Waitress arrives to tell me no snap beans and turnips was the replacement. I wasn't thrilled but what the heck I'm getting a pork chop!! Imagine my surprise when she set down a plate with 2 (2 inch size) medallions disguised as the pork chop(s) and the spoonful of turnips! I had to ask for bread and those 2 little pieces were the size of the pork medallions. I kid you not. I'm a pretty good cook and quickly realized the 2 medallions were cut from a small diameter pork loin and was definitely not a pork chop!! Trying to make the most of it I asked for pepper sauce for the turnips. I got a small container of the red hot sauce used on chicken wings. Everyone in the south who eat vegetables knows what the small jar of peppers looks like. I took a bite and realized it was semi-warmed canned turnips with no seasoning. Disgusting I did eat the medallions and the bread so for almost $10 I had a sandwich at the most! I had heard and read the reviews and expected more. One and done as far as I'm concerned.
