Met up with some friends at Macleod's on Friday night and it was the perfect spot to sit down, have a couple drinks, and unwind from the week! Macleod has a great selection of local brews (even if you aren't a beer drinker like myself, they have a great selection of lighter and and tasty beers) and which pair perfectly with their menu of pizzas and appetizers! They also have plenty of seating where you can just sit to chat or grab a game board to play with friends! They also have darts and a photobooth you can use for even more memory making :) All in all, this is a great hangout spot for friends or family, and is also dog and kiddo friendly!

We popped in for St Paddy's Day but later found out that they had their little celebration over the weekend. So I assume it was quite busy and happening during the weekend. But anyways, we stopped in just after when they opened. Just to get a table and order food before the rush. It wasn't that busy which was have so ordering was simple. Line wasn't long which is a plus as it can be a wait if there's loads of people. Of course, they had the green beer which makes it more exciting for the whole experience. Also ordered some pizzas to go with it. They were out of one of the pizzas we wanted, well out of a certain ingredient that was half of the pizza. But we did go with the spicy Italian and buffalo chicken as well as the chicken Cesar. Food wasn't too much of a wait as before, it did take a long time with so many orders coming in. Pizza, good as always. Good for sharing or a personal if you're hungry. Also, the dessert was great. The panna cotta and chocolate budino were excellent. Even though we missed the main event, it was still a lively day on the actual holiday. Good crowd, excellent pizza and great beer. We always enjoy our time.

Cozy local brewery that has incredible IPA beers, hard ciders and wine. They also serve hot pizza, pretzels, salad and made from scratch dessert. They have darts, old school board games as well as outdoor seating to enjoy the breeze. I really enjoyed the casual atmosphere and refreshing drinks. Service was friendly and fast, also noticed so many people brought their dogs on leashes to hang out. Super fun place!

Love coming no here with friends for a chill night. Tried the flat bread with sausage and it was fine, but really there for the beer anyway! Love how everyone is friendly and helpful as well!

Macleod's it's been a minute! I'm not so much within walking distance of you these days, but truly glad to return to the Mac. Macleod Ale Brewing is the hidden hub in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California. Opening it's huge roll up doors in 2014. It's grown, flourished and adapted with the bumps in the road. The decor and ambiance is a cross blend of English, Scottish and San Fernando Valley. It's a very intimate yet spacious modern warehouse layout filled with nothing but (unofficial official) Van Nuys Village charm. Flights are still a great way to try it all, but even there with the variety of craft, custom and classic style brews you have a large variety... Not to mention cider, seltzer, wine and non adult beverages. For food its custom in-house pizzas, salad, snacks and appetizers. I'm really bummed they took the vegan pizzas off the menu - was incredible on so many levels, plus they seem to have limited most of the veggie options. Vegan Jackfruit as well as Vegan Chorizo pizzas forever in my heart. Meeting up with the same group of friends I first popped into this LA Valley gem with made for a great experience. The Kester Kooler - Kool Aid hard seltzer is official a new favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything here depending on your preferences and/or pallet. The staff is still wonderful in every way. Loads of seating inside on both sides as well as outside on the patio - everything open air. Great music. Gender Neutral restrooms. Pet friendly. Kid friendly. Open to all. Parking will be a little bit of a struggle but it's only two blocks or so from the Metro Station for Van Nuys Blvd, easy rideshare drop off (or pick up when time to leave) and you can get lucky more so on side streets than Calvert itself. Come for a drink, stay for three.

Haven't tried the actual restaurant but stop by for one of their weekend swap meets and although it was a small space they had a variety of vendors which was nice. Everyone was super friendly and next time would love to stop and try the food

Dart board room.

One of the best kept secrets in Los Angeles. Located in the middle of tow truck yards and junk yards is the coolest brewery in the Van Nuys area. You have to check it out. All you smell is jasmine and garlic. It's amazing. The service is fast and easy going. It takes only a few minutes to get your beer and food. Everyone else goes for the beer and pizza. I go for the Cesar Salad and meatball with Rosemary bread. It's excellent and so inexpensive.

Staff are great, but the truth is that everyone comes for the beer. Nectar of the gods, Marangie! Why would you go to get a beer somewhere when you could come here and have the beverage of Zeus? Place is clean, chill, full of fun games, mellow friendly crowd, indoor outdoor seating, and 20 different specialty brews (with a nice alcohol content). Don't be a douche. If you're cool, check it out. Oh yeah, they have their own canned brews to take home.

A mighty fine vegan pie and beer. Our pizza expectations were actually high and they were met. Will definitely be back soon.

Macleod Ale Brewing Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Macleod Ale Brewing

Are there TVs and if so in what areas of the brewery are the TVs?

We have a projector and screen in the main taproom

What happened to all the vegan food options? Best vegan pizzas!! But now even the all the salads have dairy :_(

Over the years we have simplified our menu, so we don’t have specific vegan “designed” pizzas, but we always carry vegan cheese and many veggie toppings so you can design your own! Any salad can be requested without cheese…as always.

Any happy hour during week?

Yes, Monday - Thursday 4-6pm!

I'm so confused??? I thought yall were closing down?

We never said we were closing. It’s definitely been a difficult winter but we are open and plan to stay open!

Do you offer gluten free pizza?

Unfortunately they do not they do have several salads and appetizers that are gf by default.

Do you still serve cask ale?

Yes very much so!

Is bringing outside food permitted?

Nope

Do you have TVs?

No, so just good conversation with the people you.come with or complete strangers.

Planning on having a small birthday get together. Can we bring cake in from outside? Also is vaccination proof needed for outdoor seating?

Yes of course you can bring cake. No vaccination required for outdoor.

Do you have handicap parking?

YES there is!!

Do you have gluten-free beer?

Some of our beers are gluten reduced, using enzymes in the brewing process. We don’t have any true gluten free beers. We do, however, serve wine and cider, which are gluten free.

Is this a fun spot for a mid-large sized birthday party? Is outside food also allowed to be brought in for parties? (I.e. A mix of outside food + ordering Macleods pizzas off the menu?)

Yes! Parking may be a bit of a hassle but if you arrive anytime before 7 you should be good.

Do they still serve cvt?

YES!!

Is there outdoor seating?

Yes

Now that they offer pizza, are we still allowed to bring outside food in?

Yes but like Michael B said, the pizza is amazing and we have marinated olives, pickled veggies and salad as well. But we won’t give you the side eye if you bring your own.

Do you serve any wine? Any white wine or rose?

We now serve wine, cider and hard kombucha

Is there any sort of happy hour at all during the week?

Sorry, not at this time.

Does MacLeod's still have live Irish music on Thursday nights? Haven't seen the band there in awhile

Unfortunately no.

Do they allow dogs?

There are dogs there almost every time i go.

Has Macleod ale & pie opened on Ventura?

No. The location is on Van Nuys Blvd, in the old smoke city market space just north of Magnolia next to the Acura dealer. There have been delays with the permits and liquor license.

It's a small place and the decor didn't really feel like it matched the vibe, and the karaoke set-up was not very good. It was really hard to hear the backing music, even when you were the one singing, but this isn't the type of place that you come to "perform" for karaoke like a lot of other places in LA. It's very casual and low-pressure. Song choices were all over the place (which isn't necessarily a good or bad thing). Late night happy hour menu was decent and they offered it from 9pm on that night, and the place did get packed to standing room only. I had a hard time finding info on what their happy hour was before we went, so I took a picture to share. This was on 2/6/2026. The bartender, Brian, was very friendly, but I realized when looking at the emailed receipt afterwards that he switched one of my sibling's drinks on my tab, and I'm assuming mine got put on theirs. We have the same last name, so I understand the mix-up, but it would have been nice if he just asked about who was who instead of assuming, and it also would have been nice to see an itemized receipt before paying instead of just seeing the dollar amount we owed. Not a huge deal this time, just something that I hope they will keep in mind in the future. For food, my partner was able to get a pizza from a place across the street and bring it back into the bar, and Brian was kind enough to offer extra napkins. For other people with back problems, be aware that their bar stools do have back rests on them, but no cushions. We had a good time, and this bar seems to host special events regularly, which we may go back for eventually if the right one comes up, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back here.

There's music that's lively without being overbearing, and the staff is uniformly friendly. But... You have to order at the bar and, though they have runners to bring your food, you do have to hunt them down for anything after the delivery (extra ketchup, etc). While this isn't my favorite system at my age, to be fair, whatever the owners are saving on staff is reflected in the prices, which are absolutely below most places in the area for food that is good-quality and drinks that are generously poured. So yes, my wife's Espresso Martini was served in a deep-bellied Belgium beer glass, and my whiskey neat was a hefty pour. Yay!! For food, I ordered the Smash Burger, which is served with melted American, grilled onions and the house version of Russian dressing (as well as pickles, which I deleted). The burgers had a nice, smashed crust while remaining juicy, the cheese was properly melted, and the grilled onions had a terrific caramelized sweetness, while the house sauce was very well-balanced: ketchupy and creamy without being too mayonnaise-heavy. A very good smasher. My wife ordered the Big Texan Burger because she wanted cheddar and frizzled onions and BBQ sauce, though she deleted the bacon and pork belly that are normally included. This, too, was a very good burger: cooked to a proper and pleasing medium-rare and well-seasoned, with a good, fresh flavor to the beef. The onion rings were less successful, which are of the beer batter type, but seemed to be a commercial, frozen product. The coating was browned but not crisp, and the flavor was relatively nondescript. We didn't really eat them, and wouldn't order them again. And so, to me, The Tipsy Cow is a bit of a mixed bag: reasonably priced decent food and reasonably priced, generously-poured drinks -- but in a mostly self-serve environment that incrementally loses its appeal in relation to your age and your dining circumstances. Certainly worth a try, but you've gotta be in the right mood.

Sherman Oaks is gritty and the section of Ventura Boulevard that houses TLP is almost brutalist in its anti-establishment aesthetic. You would never know it was here if you didn't either live in the neighborhood or seek it out as I did. It is sandwiched between a completely non-descript place that I didn't even look at and a crystals shop with grafitti-etched windows (unfortunately!) but some really cool beads. Inside is the same -- no frills, a dress-down and survive-if-you-dare vibe. My pictures will illustrate what I mean. Nevertheless, the friendly service (shout out to our server, Patrick), the menu, and the quality of the food are well worth it. Again, see what we ordered in the photos attached. Everything was delicious. The floor, tables, and chairs were all clean. There is some kind of post-apocalypse rhumba going on with the ceiling treatment. It is almost reverse-logic art with all the shading (stains? velour movement?) and utilitarian installation it reveals. Love the walls though, and the worn distressed wood everywhere (see the pix, folks). A bonus was watching the Masters (Patrick let us linger) and sitting by a giant window that was open to the street. Parking is up a block or so on either side. We always find safe spots in Sherman Oaks. The music seemed to be one CD of an unknown (to me) vocal artist and was pleasant. The crowd was friendly and the whole atmosphere was like one big homey grunge party. You know those mornings you fall out of bed and almost don't want to change out of your pajamas or yoga threds?
