I started going to MacLeod's exactly two years ago and have been a regular ever since, going about once a week. They have a terrific selection of British-style beers that range from light IPAs to darker than tar. Some are magnificent; all are interesting. More significantly, I cannot overstate how important MacLeod's is to my life at this point. I work out of my house, and it gives me an opportunity to get out and socialize. Sometimes I get into chats with the super-friendly staff; sometimes it's with the other regulars. Sometimes I don't talk with anyone at all and munch peanuts and look at my phone. But the most important thing is I am always welcome. In short, the people at MacLeod's are becoming a second family to me. I hope MacLeod's continues to operate for years -- even decades -- to come. I will be patronizing it regularly until I either leave L.A. or die. read more

The parking was a little hard to find, however that is a given knowing that this place is popular. The food was alright we ordered and didn't receive our food for another hour and 10 mins. The food is very pricey so just be aware that you are going to spend more then expected. The guy that was serving the pizza wasn't so friendly either which made the experience not enjoyable. My mind is absolutely blown by how good the burger is... The beers are solid (not on the same level as a Monkish), but considering the atmosphere, service, people, darts, cornhole, etc the brewery is awesome. What tops it off is the food truck guy that serves food most saturdays and sundays our of the garage next door. The pizza was good! I think they just can't accommodate how many people they have eating there. Food comes out quite a while after ordering, some of it comes out cold which is a bummer. The location is a bit seedy and I was eaten alive by bugs. I think fleas to be honest. Wait no it was mosquitos! Just felt a bit grimy tonight lots of flies and bugs :( . On my drive here for the 1st time, NPR was talking about how the craft beer renaissance was waning and the pendulum was swinging back to mainstream. How heartbreaking to hear cultural interest is rejecting new and interesting for bland/same old. What a relief it was to walk into this brewery and be overwhelmed by a selection of craft brews even beer snobs rarely encounter! Thankfully, they offer flights and I was thoroughly impressed by letting the bartender choose a variety of brews. The pours were generous for only $10. Service and atmosphere is everything you want from a neighborhood pub. Plenty of seating, activities, and a clientele that's easy going and friendly. This place is truly a treasure and worth a bit of a drive for its wide selection of one of a kind beers and a fun environment to enjoy them. Very limited food options (nuts and chips), but they allow outside food, so a 10 min walk to nearby restaurants offers a refreshing break to gear up for another round. Pretty pumped that the Valley has a cool brewery like this, just 10 mins from my sister's house. Very dog friendly (even allow them inside) and the beers were tasty, cool and refreshing - Van Nice FTW! What was crazy tho, was how good the pizza was! Wowowow on the sweet chili shrimp - so special! Clean, accessible bathrooms, nice merch, and an AMAZING playlist bumping in the background. This was a really fun place. The beer selection was great! If you are having trouble picking a beer, get yourself a flight. You can choose 4 or 5 tasters so you test a few out. This is honestly my favorite brewery. They just seem to get it right. Their beers are malt forward. Don't worry, there are IPA selections and guest beers. The absolute best selection of cask beers in L.A. I have been to over 150 breweries between San Diego and Seattle. I have tried over 1500 unique beers at them. The pizza is delicious. They serve CVT Ice Cream. Short and to the point, if they do something, they do it well. I always say how lucky I am to have this place only a couple of short miles from my home. Go! Bartender was really knowledgeable, explained different types of beer they have - Cask, Nitro, & Draft. 2 separate rooms , have 7 dart boards, giant Jenga, battleship, scrabble, monopoly, and quite a few more. They had Peruvian food in the back room from a place called "Peruvian King". I believe they come every weekend - the guy serving us told us they serve it every weekend, just different dishes. Today it was the Lomo Saltado - $8 for a small portion and $15 for the large portion (perfect to share) and it was really good quality & generous size. They are here every weekend around 3-5pm. They have a food truck everyday 6-9pm. Today when I was here they had "Charlie's Weiners" recommend their nachos, hella bomb. Super dog friendly, allowed INSIDE the brewery which is awesome sauce! They had a few dogs off leash, and my dog actually behaves better off leash so I was pretty happy about that. Pretty laid back background music, not too loud good for keeping up an conversation. Serve free peanuts!! The flights of beers cost $10 and they're good sized! The bartender accidentally poured an extra glass and gave it to us, super chill. Only thing I'd recommend is adding a few TV's especially in the back room. Parking can also be a little tricky and it can be to hard to find a spot on the street, but both times I've been I've gotten lucky and found a spot within a block. read more

I was told that another Brit actually got teary eyed, not realizing how much he missed home. I discovered that the world of ordinary and perhaps not so ordinary bitters is delicious and oh so smooth. Low alcohol, low carbonation, 50 degrees temp... So much to learn! At $4 for a half pint, $6 for a pint, and $6 for a flight (try them all!), there are so many ways to discover the ale you didn't know you were missing. On your way out, you can pick up small or large growlers to carry you over until your next visit. Our group had a blast and we can't wait to go back. They don't serve food, but there is usually a food truck parked out front - check their Twitter feed for truck of the night. You are welcome to bring in grub from home as well. (Just be respectful!) The Oaked Brown Stout is the best stout I've ever tasted. The bar has a simple openness to it that reminded me of something you'd find in Northeast Portland. Attended the Grand Opening yesterday, 6/22/2014, 1st session, so I was able to be there for the owners, Jennifer & Alastir's opening comments, thanking everyone (including their landlord, who cut the ribbon) and the Pasadena Scotts Pipes and drums group who opened the brewery. Very cool, and a nice little perk to witness and be there for. Atmosphere: Long industrial space, large cold box (for kegs & casks), some seating, purse hooks, rail along the back to lay ones beer glass down, restrooms, etc. Some white wood framed pictures of random city blocks and landmarks around Van Nuys around the tasting room. A large Chalkboard with the name, style, ABV, IBU & availabilty of beers available, along with the prices, pour size, and the swag available, ( T-Shirt, logo glasses, growlers, etc.) Bike rack outside the brewery as well. Last, they have A/C ! Quality & Service: 6 Cask Engines going, along with 2 or 3 Co2 keg taps. The casks are front & center, and my group of about 12 friends enjoyed all the beers they had, and they presented very well from the cask. Being a grand opening, there were crowds, and long lines, but they handled it well continuing to pour beer pints & half pints of all 4 beers throughout the event, with 3 beertenders, and 2 support staff to take orders. Selection: 4 beers included a brown stout, English Pale Ale, A bitter, and Scottish Ale. Ranging from a high of a whopping 4.3% abv, or as low as 3.2% abv (great session offerings) These should be year round, in addition to some seasonals, first of which I hear will be on in August! Food: No food (they sever spent grain crackers in the future) but they had FOUR (4) food trucks for the grand opening, impressive! Grilled Cheese Truck, Taco Truck, Soft serve ice cream, and a German Sausage truck. Value: prices were very reasonable. $15 for 5, 10 oz pours. Event pricing, but I expect their regular pricing to be comparable (they will serve tasters, flights, half pints and full pints as well per their board) Overall : The first craft brewery in the valley (with a tasting room) and 2nd to open this year the SFV. Given the turnout, they will be growing fast, I predict. My group and I had a great time, and will be back, often. read more

How awesome to have a brewery nearby in the valley. As with a lot of local breweries, it's located in the industrial part of the city. Awesome set of ales. During my visit, I overheard a couple of English patron coming by for a visit and quite enjoy their brews. Always a good sign. Foodwise, food can be lacking but follow them on various social media medium to find out what foodtrucks will be heading out their way. Though you do get complimentary peanuts to munch on. Feel free to throw the shells on the floor. Entertainment wise, there's a set of darts that you can play with your friend. There is no better neighborhood joint. It is strictly a brewery; but, food trucks along with darts and peanut shells all over the floor make it a local place with a cool vibe.
