I have loved living at Mackenzie Pointe! The units are spacious, the property is kept super clean and it's the BEST management/maintenance. Super responsive, friendly and they go out of their way to make things easy and comfortable here. During covid they gave us a free online service for exercise, art and cooking classes to make up for the gym being closed. They were incredibly helpful and responsive during the snowstorm as well. They will to foster a sense of community in the complex. It's not the best neighborhood- there have been some issues with cars being gone through- I've left my doors locked and never had an issue. I just re-signed for a another year- it's been a great place to call home! read more

This complex has the best staff. They are kind and caring. Each one takes time to say hi and chat a bit when you see them on property. Maintenance is FANTASTIC. One evening there was some kind of really NASTY clog up in the pipes in our building, and it was overflowing into our sink. A maintenance person came, after hours, and stayed until around midnight until he got it unclogged! That man was our hero!!! All of the maintenance staff are that fantastic. My partner was the one leasing the apartments here and I just wanted to give a review for our experience. The apartment and community here is nice. The quality of the apartment here is pretty good for the price. Rent is affordable and apartment is clean and in good condition. The apartment comes with your standard kitchen appliances (stove, microwave, and refrigerator). It is close by to the freeway and restaurants. Downtown is a short distance away if you take the freeway. Walmart and Target is also close by. It is a gated community so that is a plus. There is no assigned parking so parking at night can become difficult. There is also no shaded parking so your car may be subjected to the occasional bird droppings and oak trees. There is a pool area (with 2 pools), beach volleyball area and small gym in the back. There is a shared laundry room so have your quarters ready to utilize them. Overall, didn't have many issues here. The apartment community is fairly quiet. There isn't much cars passing by outside either. I like how they have community events with refreshments or an activity. Seems to be a good place for students to rent too. read more

Pros: Beautiful outdoor area with 2 pools, patio seating and grills for bbq-ing. Threw many pool gatherings and always had a blast. You get what you pay for. Meaning, these are not luxury apartments but the rent is very affordable for Austin. Great location in between all the highways. Immediate access to 35, 290 and 183. Gated community helped it feel a little safer Very friendly office staff Option to rent washer and dryer was a bonus! Loved having that inside our apartment *not* a party complex Cons: No covered parking. My car always had bird crap or tree crap on it. Could never keep my car clean :( Parking was hard to find if you came home late and it felt as though you had to hike in to your apartment, nor is parking regulated in any way I felt there were slow maintenance responses for fixing things. Our dryer was broken 30% of the time. All in all, we made MacKenzie hour home for 3 years and we would recommend living here. read more

Mackenzie Pointe has been, by far, the worst apartment complex I have lived in. In the 2 years I have lived here, there have been notifications sent out regarding suspicious activity in the complex and cars being broken into. Last year, a note was given out about a woman being threatened by two men at the door of her apartment, the two men tried to force her inside. A neighbor was flashed by a guy, another car was broken into and a few people have had items stolen from balconies and porches. Now let's talk about the apartments themselves. This apartment complex call themselves "upgrading" by painting cabinets with a thick layer of paint on top of the existing paint that will chip, popcorn ceilings and walls are still alive and well in this complex, and after a while you will see cracks form in them. "Hardwood" flooring was put in most apartments, including the upstairs units which isn't bad. However, they were to cheap to get better sound dampening materials before laying it down. So beware those of you going to be moving in a downstairs apartment. You will hear EVERYTHING from your upstairs neighbor! If they have kids? You poor, poor dear....buckle up for no peaceful rest period! Once your utility bills roll in, you will understand why MacKenzie Pointe have such reasonable rent. Your extra money is going to go on utilities. Units have very poor insulation so you will be cold in the winter if the temperatures drop and hot in the summer. All windows and doors are not sealed properly due to foundation settling over the years which also affects the plumbing. There are times your toilet will not flush. I guess them gifting me a plunger when I moved in should have clued me in that the pluming is sketchy A.F! Plumbing is questionable, and so is having hot water on the regular. If you are unlucky enough to have a 1 bed 1 bath like us, there is no in-unit washer and dryer. The communal laundry room is a disaster. First, half the machines don't work. The maintenance staff can sometimes be quick, but they are behind a lot of the times, so the minor stuff like broken blinds and microwaves will fall to the bottom of the work orders... Do yourself a favor and live somewhere else. read more

So I just moved in here. Single bedroom place for $560/month. Not too a bad place for 6 months to get acquainted with the area but I've got some problems. First of all the place smelled like and ashtray when I first walked in. After many a candle burning, dryer sheets in the vents, wall scrubings and some strange fogger thing it is now ignorable. Second, the toilet makes a loud running water noise randomly through out the morning, night, and noon. To fix it they have to rip all the piping out of the wall and replace it. Good thing I'm out of town for a week. Thirdly, there were just a bunch of little things wrong about the place that seemed to take a lot of effort on my part to have rectified. It's got a nice pool, a volleyball court (that I could care less about), and decent parking. However, if you are scared of roaches do not walk around at night. The place has all these old railroad ties that I'm guessing are full of them because they prowl around the outside of the property every evening (just to be clear, they're outside, not inside). Finally, all the good parking spaces have huge oak trees shading them. The shade part is nice but park your car there over night and wake up and see how it looks in the morning! All in all if you can find some place just as cheap... move there instead. read more

For the price, Mackenzie Pointe can't be beat-- the complex is close to the highway, and only a 10-15 minute drive to downtown. It's also gated and has a great pool area. But the best part of Mackenzie Pointe (and what motivated me to write this review) is the office staff-- they are all incredibly friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to make sure residents are happy with the community. Wendi and Margaret even offered to put packages inside my apartment when I was gone for several weeks and my house sitter couldn't stop by the office during business hours. As the other reviewer said, Mackenzie Pointe does show some of the wear and of an older complex. However, the office staff responds to maintenance requests immediately, and I have never had any major maintenance or plumbing issues. They also spray regularly for pests and periodically change the air filters, which is great. My only minor complaint is that the walls are a bit thin, and you can often hear people talking outside or loud music from another apartment. As a law student, living in a quiet complex was really important to me, and so far I have had great luck with neighbors at Mackenzie Pointe. And having a staff that responds quickly to maintenance and other concerns is one less thing that I have to worry about. I'll be moving back to California at the end of the school year, but I would definitely recommend Mackenzie Pointe to anyone looking for a convenient, affordable, and nice (but not fancy) place to live in Austin. read more

I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to review my homestead. I have lived here in the complex for nearly 6 years... 5 apartments later I can honestly say I may never leave. This apartment complex is the best I've ever lived in. It is modestly priced, very well kept up, close to every major highway and super friendly. I've had different living situations in each apartment I've had here and every layout was perfect. Maintenance is the best in the biz. These guys will be out the same day to fix whatever issue you may have. I've never trusted a staff more. Overall this place is as good as it gets. Very decent apartments. Fair rent, timely maintenance, and very pet friendly. I just wanted to add one caveat: this is not a great place to rent if you work from home. I've lived here 3 years and maintenance is constantly being done on surrounding apartments. It's a positive that the grounds and apartments are taken care of, but it's a crowded complex. If there is any apartment work or yard maintenance being done you will hear it constantly. It's especially annoying if your dogs react to outside noises. Like I said, if working at home is not in your plans, or you don't particularly care about daytime noise, these are great apartments and very affordable for Austin. read more

This is the best apartment complex I have ever lived in by far. Our apartment is nicely sized, a very fair price, and only about 5-15 minutes to downtown (depending on traffic). I've never used the bus system, but there is a bus stop right outside. The office and maintenance staff is one of the best parts about living here. For the year and a half we've lived here, most of the staff has remained the same. That speaks volumes about this apartment complex. The maintenance are always working on things around the complex, so you come to know them. I've lived in other complexes that sent maintenance guys over that I'd never seen before and it made me uncomfortable to have them in my home. I definitely trust the guys that work in this complex - I've talked to most of them one time or another. Maintenance requests are complete either the day you fill them or the next day. I've never had to wait longer than that - seriously. The office staff is friendly and very reliable. They are constantly in contact with the residents about what's going on in the complex. They have a couple parties at the pool every year, where they provide food, beer, and entertainment. They really try to make this complex feel like a community. Our apartment is a one bedroom (plus an open 2nd bedroom/office), one bath. It is spacious and well taken care of. The apartments are older, but nicely kept. The only complaint about the inside is that our cabinets and wall colors are dark and a little dated, but nothing crazy. The outside of the apartment, around the complex, is really pretty. There are a lot of trees and there are always people going on walks with their kids and dogs throughout the complex. The people that live here are a really diverse mix - there are people of all different cultures, students, families, young couples, older people, etc. Everyone is friendly and we haven't experienced any loud or rude neighbors here. The apartment staff also make it a point to remind residents to keep their patios and outside area clean. My husband and I like to admire some of the nicely decorated patios when we walk through the complex. There are 2 pools, a hot tub, and a medium-sized gym that we've made great use of while living here. A few drawbacks: Neighborhood - My husband and I like how close this complex is to downtown and some other cool areas of Austin, but there isn't a ton to do within this actual neighborhood. However, we are very close to neighborhoods that have more to do. We have 4 HEBs nearby, but they are all about a 10 minute drive. There is an small Arlan's around the corner. There are a couple streets behind the complex that are on the dodgy side, but the complex is gated and it hasn't bothered me. I have heard a couple people say they've seen sketchy people around and there were a couple cars broken into, but I personally haven't had any problems. This is Austin and you have to expect those kind of things could happen anywhere. Older apartments - Some buildings have had pipe problems, so the hot water was shut off quite a few times for a little while. The complex kept us informed and fixes any problems asap. It's really up to personal preference if you'd rather have a brand new, luxury apartment, but this apartment is very well maintained and they are constantly improving it. I would give this complex 4 stars because of the neighborhood, but because of the wonderful staff and great value for the cost, it wouldn't be right to give it less than 5 stars. My husband's job might be relocating to the Dallas area and I would be so sad to leave this apartment! As long as we stay in Austin, we'll be staying in this apartment. I've lived at this apartment complex for almost 2 years and plan to move out at the end of my lease. Before I go, I have a few things to say about it. First, the positive parts. The rent, at least when I first moved in, was pretty affordable in comparison to the rest of Austin. It's about a 10 minute drive from Downtown without traffic and 20-25 minutes with traffic. The pool area is very nice and my actual apartment is decently sized. It has big windows that let a lot of natural light in and make the apartment seem bigger. Now, the negative. The apartment complex has no real way of keeping track of who is parking there, no stickers or assigned parking spots. They say you have to register your car with the office, but that is, in my opinion, not practical and insufficient. The apartment complex is covered in trees, which is good when keeping your car shady, but allows tons of birds to poop all over your car. Yes, it WILL be a constant problem. The leasing office, the 2 years I've been here, has sent around 5 emails about crime happening in the complex. 3 of which pertained to cars being broken into and 2 that pertained to a suspicious person wondering around the complex, looking in windows. I, myself, called the police about someone stealing license plates off of cars in the parking lot. When my lease was first up for renewal, my rent went up $10, which was annoying, but not outrageous or surprising. My lease is up for renewal again, but this time is being increased by $30! That price jump is absurd, especially when you include the fact that they have done NOTHING to my actual apartment. They seem more focused on keeping the outside looking somewhat nice and ignoring the inside. My actual apartment is, like I said earlier, a decent size, but it is incredibly dated. The walls and door frames are clearly just painted over again and again. The door frame to my room is peeling everywhere. The cabinets in the kitchen are flaking. The shower head in my bathroom is positioned very low (I'm 5'10" so keep that in mind). read more

My husband and I have lived here for the last 7 years and have honestly had a really pleasant time. The complex manager, Margaret Demirs, is one of the sweetest managers I've had the pleasure of interacting with since moving to Austin in 2008. The location is really hard to beat, given that it's pretty centrally located so it's really only 15-20 minutes to wherever you want to go. That paired with the price (you really can't find a 2 bedroom, 2 bath for that price anywhere in Austin nowadays), it was a no-brainer we stayed there for so long. The maintenance staff was always very friendly and extremely prompt with dealing with any issues, and we rarely had any. There were a few break-ins while we were there, I'd say one every 8-10 months, which I feel was the only downside to living here. We lived in a 2/2 which came with a washer/dryer in the unit, but for those living in a 1/1 and don't have a washer/dryer there are 2 on-site laundromats for use. They are very dog-friendly, converting the rarely-used volleyball area into a dog park which our three dogs loved! The pool area is also a highlight for this complex. Two pools, a kiddie pool, a jacuzzi, and a few tables and chairs for lounging and grills. I really recommend MacKenzie Pointe Apartments if you're looking for an affordable, conveniently-located, well-maintained property. read more

I lived here from 2012-2015, and it was a great experience all around. Affordable rent, sane pet policies, quiet, excellent facilities, quick maintenance response, and personable and caring leasing staff. The complex is gated and safe, with plenty of on-site parking for visitors, and tucked off a quiet street between two other apartment complexes. It's within biking distance of campus bus routes (or campus itself), local stores, and the newer Mueller shopping/dining complex, with an excellent weekend farmer's market. I've stayed in much "posher" apartments that were worse experiences solely due to management - management here is the bomb! They respond very quickly to any issues or repairs, and genuinely care about keeping their residents happy and comfortable. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to move to the Austin area. read more

I'm shocked by all the bad reviews of this place, but I looked at the dates and those were YEARS AGO... here's a good ole 2015 review: I moved in about 3 or 4 years ago and couldn't have found a better 1 bedroom apartment deal close to downtown than here. I wanted high vaulted ceilings, a large balcony, and a pool view and got exactly that. Even living by the pool I find this place to be a very quiet and quaint community. There is a range of age groups living here from students to first time parents to seniors and all are so very kind. On top of that, everyone minds their own business here... You can hop on 290 and be downtown under 7 minutes...I do this daily [mornings] for work!!! The staff is awesome and quick to help shall you have a question or need a repair. Every few months or so they host parties at the pool area and are catered and pretty much everyone wins something with the raffle... The landscape is well kept and there is TONS of shade...The maintenance men are always working hard and doing improvements to make this place even better! This a gem of a deal here in Austin...I'd say use me as a reference, but I am sadly moving out soon due to taking the next steps in life :) Give them a call and take a tour!! read more

I currently live in a nice one bedroom apartment with a large wrap-around patio. I really love this apartment and the complex. It's quiet at night and there are wonderful neighbors. I have had a couple of maintenance issues...it is an older complex after all. But management jumps on the repairs immediately. So far they've totally replaced the shower for me (plumbing, new tub and all new tile) and recently the apartment wasn't cooling to below 78 degrees. So they replaced the complete a/c unit! Now that's customer service! This staff is awesome! read more

Good staff, but apart from that I don't recommend to students. They took away the UT bus stop, and as a result, the apt is taking a hit. I spent a few days cleaning the apt thoroughly so I could get my full refund back. They kept a good amount of it although I should have gotten a full refund. I've lived in Austin for nearly 5 years now and no apartment has ever come close to Mackenzie Pointe. This place is the bomb, management and maintenance are top notch, the pool is always clean and never crowded and it never gets too loud around here. I love the diversity in my neighbors, there's families and students and older folks and everyone seems happy and friendly. The rent here is actually decent and I don't feel like I'm constantly being nickeled and dimed on everything like I was in previous complexes. This place is simply amazing. Margaret was very easy to work with and very nice throughout the whole process of moving in as well as moving out. Mostly everyone in the community is very nice and courteous of their neighbors, never really had any complaints about this. Turn in maintenance order and they are knocking on the door almost before your finished. All older apartments have some issues, creaking floors, loud water pipes, but I can overlook to live here. Margaret and Cecil, the management team are the best. Pool area clean and maintained, grounds clean, and dog friendly. If you don't like dogs, probably not for you. Honestly there are no perfect apartments, everyone will have issues at times, but minimal here. Location great for downtown, IH 183, 290, and 35 all near. Cost acceptable by Austin standards. You will get to know your neighbors, but the relationship will not be intrusive. read more

If you like 24/7 noise this is your place. Seems like an ok place at first, until your first maintenance problem (and there will be many). There is an existing problem with water in the buildings resulting in water being cut off at least once a week and sometimes more. 24 hour notice is never observed. Maintenance responds quickly but is grossly ineffective. Expect multiple visits for the same problem. I live in a one bedroom and the bedroom will not heat or cool. Maintenance was in my apartment over 20 times in a month this summer in an effort to resolve this problem. It was never fixed. I have lived with a vacant apartment next door and below me for months. Your neighbor's water sounds like it's running in your apartment. Hot and cold water don't mix in shower. Laundry is always in disrepair. Management is friendly but ineffective. My advice is to find another place unless you enjoy additional stress. read more
