AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Horrible management that is disrespectful, unhelpful, and completely unresponsive. This complex is a total rip-off for the price you pay. The building is very noisy and will be for the next several years because of construction, as well as the bar that is open from morning to late at night. Be prepared to be woken up at all hours of the night. All the rooms smell, the carpets are old and worn out. They have a predatory towing service that preys on the parking garage. They illegally towed my vehicle that was registered to park there (license plate on file.) Management didn't offer any help at all and instead were very rude and dismissive when I reached out about the problem and the damage caused. There are much better options in Austin. I will never renew my lease here and strongly advise others: DO NOT MOVE HERE. read more

Living at The Catherine in Austin was genuinely horrific and stressful. If you're on the south side of the building, you need to know the truth up front: late-night noise comes straight through the windows, people screaming and cars revving engines every single night until around 1:00am. They do not disclose this when you're moving in, and the windows/doors do basically nothing to stop it. It becomes your nightly reality. When I raised the noise issue, and explained that I'm recovering from cancer and need rest, I was met with judgment, side eye, and horrible energy from Brandi in the front office. No professionalism, no empathy for my cancer recovery, no effort to help. Just attitude for daring to bring up something that impacts health and basic livability. The lobby culture was also disgusting and completely inappropriate. Jay from the front desk team openly spoke about pornography in the lobby. That is unacceptable in any residential building, especially one charging luxury prices. On top of that, he attends the roof bar parties and gets drunk with Catherine residents, which is another massive red flag and a total lack of professional boundaries. I would not let my daughter live here and be subjected to that kind of environment. Then there's Garret Christopher of the Christopher Group, one of the trust fund baby owners who lives in the building. Not only does he walk around with his nose in the air being rude to tenants, but I was subjected multiple times to him having loud phone conversations in the lobby about his legal troubles and lawsuits being brought against him. Pathetic, uncomfortable, and it contributed to the constant feeling of living in a tense, hostile environment. Overall, The Catherine is run by low IQ, lying, inappropriate, unprofessional fraudsters, and people have been leaving the building in droves for a reason. It is absolutely not worth the money. Expect to be treated like a subhuman if you move in. I would never live here again. read more

This facility is lovely. The lobby even smells fancy, and the view on the top floor by the bar is immaculate, especially in the evening. The apartments are fairly spacious actually; I know someone living in one and he's been very happy with the service despite the cost ($2000-3000 for most of the apartments depending on the size, aside from the condos). I think the location is perfect though, it's right by the bridge so it's easy to walk to downtown without actually having to drive or park there. Very nice! read more

I terminated my lease upon learning that the prior tenant of my unit blew his brains out with a gun in the building. The leasing office withheld this deeply troubling information from me and would not let me leave my lease early upon me discovering it (more than a year into my lease), despite the fact that I vacated the unit immediately and had paid in full for the period it was occupied. Landlords in Texas are not under any legal obligation to disclose such facts. Still, one should expect more courtesy, especially from a luxury building. Future tenants should be aware. Great location, very nice interiors, pleasant concierge; but the character of the people staffing the leasing office deserves to be questioned. read more

Two stars for the facilities and assistant property manager Jay. The rent is about right for location but tiny apartments so plan to downsize or get a storage unit. Parking should have been included in my rent per my lease but Heather my original lease agent added a $150 monthly charge totaling over 1k for 12 months. I then added guest parking and got a few months free because she never added it so that was a nice but secondary mistake. If you rent here check your fees. Additionally, Patti the current PM is pleasant but her predecessor was a nasty woman, Leigha. There was an unfortunate situation a few months into living there. The Luxer package room is an absolute mess and frequently Amazon and other packages are not logged. Many times I either didn't have packaged that said delivered or delivered packages were sitting unclogged. After a long work trip I went hunting for 7-8 packages but only one or two were logged. Two sent by my boyfriend for me but under his name. I grabbed the several Amazon packages, target package, and two he sent. I realized immediately I grabbed one marked for my unit 1107 but not addressed to me. The front desk was away and I set the package outside the room. (My mistake) I then left the next day to visit him hours away. I had two missed calls from the Catherine and didn't receive them until the following day. Within 48hrs and not speaking with me I had a notice of lease violation for criminal violation on my door externally. I called immediately and was met with a very judge-mental rude woman. She immediately accused me and I got off the phone quickly crying. To me (someone who only lived half time in the place I paid for and had several missing packages no one could care to look for) I was embarrassed and upset. A few hours later I called back to explain several packages were Amazon and not logged in Luxer was a frequent excuse the front desk used to not help me find packages, and I also relayed my boyfriends packages for me and one I accidentally grabbed marked with my number. She was unforgiving in accusations and told me she had video footage and austin police were already contacted. She told me to tell them "my story" and she had sent this to corporate without any proof and had me banned from getting packages. I told her if it was about the package I mistakenly took I offered to pay the cost if lost. In minutes I saw an email come in about a package their asking other residents if packages were missing. I sent evidence of my package label and delivery date and times. She never listened or cared after she concluded immediately I was a criminal. I called APD worried and scared with proof of my packages and they never heard of this case or investigation. So, not only did she lie she didn't conclude or close the case for the incident and reported me. It took until my last month at the Catherine yo get access again with an escort!!! Finally Jay and Patti took pity on me and helped after months of packages and federal mail returned. Which is in fact a crime. I was patient and understanding as the PM left and I didn't blame other staff but lost it after a 3k work package for an event to my permanent address was sent back and cost me $500 and reshipment. I hope you reflect on your actions after this review and treat tenants better. This was a horrific experience at an otherwise great place. read more

The 18+ story apartment build is well managed and secure. Apartments on the 7/8 floor have nice views of the city skyline and Colorado River . Floor plans are spacious and kitchens and bath rooms. This building is pet friendly. Everyone either has a cat or dog of all sizes. read more

I was vacuuming and suddenly felt the pain of losing my husband when I realized this place felt like a homie. (Like a hug)

My co-worker and I stayed here while attending a conference nearby and we really enjoyed our stay except for one evening when the bartender at the rooftop bar was so rude that I decided to tell the front desk, and now I just found out my co-worker has been blacklisted from renting via Sonder because of this. When we had checked in, the front desk was so friendly and highly recommended that we visit the rooftop bar and that it's open until midnight. When we tried to visit one evening, our keycard did not work and the bartender glared at me and gave me a throat slash gesture - (this gesture imitates cutting a person's throat with a blade, indicating strong disapproval, extreme anger, or displeasure) - just because we came at the recommendation of the staff in this building? There were patrons sitting at the bar; it's not closed... So yes, I was shocked and offended and told the front desk. I wasn't rude at all to the front desk as it's certainly not their fault. I just asked why that happened - and for this, WE'VE been blacklisted. I'm appalled. read more

Long story short, we are super disappointed. The good: high ceilings, great convenient location, modern building. maintenance crew is very responsive (but sometimes can't fix the problems). The bad: 1, rent increased freaking 21% for a 10-month renewal. can't believe the 21% increase. are you f****** kidding me?! It's really expensive to begin with too. Given the following problems, you'll be upset with a 1% increase, let alone 21%. 2, lots of small problems: our fridge was broken and it took several months before they decided they weren't able to fix it after multiple attempts and replaced it finally. when the replaced the fridge, they dented our floor, and I immediately took a photo and sent to management, and management was suspicious of me lying in their tone. both toilets were broken and flushing nonstop. one shower turns cold after 10 minutes (I asked them to fix it several times and they tried, and never did. so I gave up asking). Dryer stopped working and we had a huge load of wet clothes. The garage entrance fob broke three times in less than two years. Our door battery was dead and wouldn't lock/unlock. etc. Loads of small problems. maintenance crew comes by fast Monday thru Friday but didn't always fix the problem. 3, elevator is frequently slow (3-5 minutes of waiting), because on a lot of days, one elevator is broken, one is used for moving, and hence there's only one working elevator for 19 floors of people. 4, staff is not as nice as before. Most are really nice and helpful. some definitely hated being there. I had to beg them to find my packages behind the front desk at least seven times. They would tell me I don't have a package in the back room, and I had to waste a lot of time on digging in the Luxor room and not finding it, and then I had to beg the front desk again and again and finally they found it in the room behind the desk (so much for "there's no package here for you"). This happened like 5-10 times in the past year. If a package goes to luxor, I'd get a notification. but if it goes to the back room behind the front desk, I hear nothing from them, no email, no text, nothing. When I first moved in, I'd get an email saying i got a package, now it's just nothing.... 5, most packages go to Luxor room, which is horrible. read more

I've lived here for about 6 months and love it so far! The amenities are amazing, especially the rooftop bar. I've had a few minor maintenance requests, and they're always completed by the next day. Everyone who lives here is friendly and the location really can't get better. That being said, I've heard the building increases rent at a very high rate. I'm worried about having to move again after my short nine month lease due to a huge rent increase. I was in a one bedroom and AFTER I renewed I decided to transfer to a 2 bedroom with little notice. Management was extremely accommodating and within 2 days of my request placed me in a 2 bedroom unit that I LOVE! I do have to warn you- once you move in you will not want to leave! The 19th floor has a residents only lounge with a full bar and the best views of Austin! I've been a downtown Austin resident for the last couple of years so I've seen a lot of new buildings come online including Skyhouse, Ashton and others. I've also looked at living in almost all of them. My wife and I pulled the trigger early in the development of The Catherine because they've given so much attention to detail in both their architecture and amenities. Positives: incredible views to the North, a pool that is resort worthy, friendly staff and soft music always playing everywhere you go (like a spa mixed with a modern hotel), pricey rents keep out the riffraff and student population Negatives: not sure if construction will ever end, Whole Foods won't deliver to this side of Town Lake, no easy access to a Royal Blue grocery or convenience store, no security staff to speak of, parking and check-in for support & service staff is clumsy Update: October 2015:: quite a few changes have occurred in the first few months of living here: On the PLUS Side: (a) the construction has mostly ended and so the noise has calmed down) (b) the reserved parking has opened in the basement (c) the sky lounge finally opened On the NEGATIVE Side: (a) the front desk staff is really friendly but they are there to lease new apartments. They are NOT a concierge service. They won't sign for packages and have very limited hours (b) the main garage parking is bad...they aren't really strict on keeping out people who don't have parking privileges and there are days when it feels like 1/3 of the cars in there are illegally parked (c) the garage is not secure. There is an elevator without a security keycode that allows anyone to get to any floor of the garage (d) the building is supposed to be no smoking throughout but it's not enforced and so it's common to find random cigarette butts that have been thrown from porches on the pool deck (e) during the tour we were told that the gym would always have towels and cold water in the fridge. That has ended and there are towels some days but the fridges don't get filled any more (f) when we signed our lease we were could pay our rent every month with a credit card. That changed 2 months ago and now there is a $59.99 fee per month charged as a "convenience" fee. read more

Now the Catherine is imposing its residential rules on Aussies because they complain about the noise and expecting Aussies to be "good neighbors". If you live next to downtown or near a bar, don't complain. The Catherine and other residential areas that build near bars should warn their future residents about the noise and don't be bullies to local, iconic Austin establishments. I have been living in downtown Austin for three years now and I do not normally give reviews, but this deserves a long detailed review. The Good: The bar is great. Good views, fairly priced drinks. The dog park is decent sized and there's a big green area right in front of the building. The Bad: It started when I was not able to tour the floor plan I was moving into and was sent pictures of a view that was not the correct one. My view was partly blocked by a neighbor building, but they did not show any buildings in the pictures. Secondly, overall the concierges were nice, except for this one guy, Terry, who assumes the motive of your visit based on how you are dressed. Many of my visitors complained about how he assumed they were delivery guys right off the bat without asking if they were there to visit someone. I am glad there are previous reviews regarding Terry's behavior (Facebook, Google, or Yelp) so that adds credibility to my statement. During one of his shifts, my girlfriend's car was towed when there was no visitors parking available. Normally, the concierge would email the residents in order to move a car or else it would be towed in the next hours, but this time the car was towed within an hour of being parked. Thankfully, after emailing the complex about the towing issue, they took care of things and credited me the money I had to pay for the towing. Thirdly, throughout the year I lived there, there were at least two or three emails mentioning car robberies inside the apartment complex parking, which made me feel unsafe when parking my car. In addition, it was a miracle if all the elevators worked at once. At least one was always out of service and expect delays because they are slow... very slow. The worst: This last part was my favorite at The Catherine: moving out. I read a previous review saying that they had to pay about $600usd after moving out for a carpet replacement that was not needed and I thought to myself "well, this has to be a mistake, it surely will not happen to me." To my surprise, something similar happened. I rented a carpet cleaner for the day in order to clean the carpet before moving out. I do not have pictures with me unfortunately, but I can say it was pretty clean showing normal wear (note that I did not mention "tear") for a year of living there, but it was not pristine. Soon after moving out I received an email showing that I am getting less than 50% of my deposit back because of a carpet that did not need to be replaced. After emailing my concern about the issue, they sent me back pictures of the carpet, but this time the carpet was filthy; it had black spots of dirt and even some boot footprints that are not mine because I do not even own boots. I emailed back and said I would gladly pay for the cleaning of the carpet (that was already billed), but that replacing the carpet seemed a little over the top for me. They responded and said that due to the black stains on the carpet, it needed to be replaced (very important that the carpet DID NOT SHOW ANY TEARS). NOT TO MENTION, that when I moved in, the tour guide told me that the carpet was basically brand new since they had replaced it in the past two years. So carpet replacement is something that has been running at The Catherine now. I regret not taking pictures of the carpet after using the carpet cleaner and recommend you do unless you want to end up paying for a new carpet. I was not going to review this building, but after they pulled that carpet replacement scenario, I feel like I needed to warn future residents the kind of things The Catherine are willing to do. read more

I would absolutely not recommend the Catherine to anyone. It was terrible from day one....We arrive on our move in date to an apartment that had not been properly cleaned, lighting fixtures were not up and door handles were falling off. Great start. It gets worse...around 7pm that night I decide to take a bath, no hot water. Perfect. Call to leave a message, call again in the morning (it's a Sunday), no call back. I went to stay with my parents that night and got back around 1pm, still no call back, so I go down there. Shouldn't it be important to return this call? Next day I find out that our ice maker and washing machine don't work. Oh and that we can't turn on the master bedroom light and fan with the switch. You have to turn one on and then jump on the bed to turn on the other one. This issue takes about three months and about 10 follow up calls to fix. Really? The maintenance guy at one point suggests installing a really long chain so I don't have to jump on the bed...wtf. We have a courtyard that I thought would be amazing for our dogs. Nope. It's just a trash bin for everyone that lives above you. Every smoker that lives in Austin lives in the Catherine. No doubt. I once found a used condom out there....no more words necessary for this issue. The courtyards also come with a fire pit. Sounds great, right? Well if it worked it could have been great. They needed to replace a part but didn't know who to call (seriously?) and then they couldn't find the remote. I finally got a remote a year later...and it still didn't work. This was after the condom incident, cigarette butts, and a ton of other random trash. So I really didn't care. About 6 months into living there the office building next door installs new security lights that now shine directly into our whole apartment. All night long. See pictures below. It took 6 weeks for them to come to an agreement with them to move the lights. Six weeks of paying $4,000 a month to basically have a spot light shinning directly into my windows. I understand that this wasn't directly a fault of the Catherine, but they barely ever followed up with us about the issue. I don't know how many times I called, but it was a lot. Again, I'm paying the full amount of rent during this time. I could go on and on about other issues....but let's skip to moving out. Someone from the front desk comes for a walk thru after our furniture was moved out. Says that everything looks good, the carpet has normal wear and tear. Great! A week later we get an email stating that we owe $600 because the carpet has to be replaced. Say what? They send me a picture of a bleach spot that looks to be about the size of a pen cap...the round part. I've never noticed this stain, nor did I ever use bleach in that apartment. Then there was a red stain that I also never noticed. I have two small dogs that are extremely potty trained so they didn't mess up the carpet. So, normal wear and tear resulted in me paying for new carpet. I lived there for a year and a half, let me point that out. I guess if you plan to move there, and actually live there, plan to replace the carpet when you go. I've lived in a lot of apartments and have NEVER owed money after moving out. What a slap in the face after everything I've mentioned above. Oh and the elevators never work. Positives are the bar on the top is great, best view in Austin. And, the front desk staff is nice. I guess those two things earn my one star...and the fact that zero isn't an option. I'm sure others have had a great experience. I definitely had a lot of issues that most don't, I get that. But the $600 bill in the end was just too much after everything else. Poor management in my opinion. I know they have a file (or should) on everything that happened. Maybe in the future they should take someone's overall experience into consideration and ask themselves if the $600 is worth it. So I'm going to close with don't move there, you'll be sorry. read more

At the beginning it was amazing to live at The Catherine. It was a high end building and high end living. Sadly after they changed the management team it started to decay, staff wasn't as friendly as they used to be, the service was not at all what it used to be and overall the living luxe experience is not there anymore. Too sad. I decided to move. Good thing is, the moving out experience wasn't bad as in other apartments I have lived in. I have seen a lot of people moving out too. My husband and I have lived at The Catherine for almost two years now and have a hard time picturing living anywhere else! The management here always goes above and beyond to make you feel at home and comfortable. While working from home, we still both feel the sense of community around us. I love bringing friends and family up to our rooftop to enjoy the incredible views. I don't think there's a better downtown location you could find. All of the amenities are beautiful and well taken care of. Any time we have a service order request, the great maintenance gentleman is there even sooner than expected. I worked with Sam Hamad, and not only is he friendly and personable, his knowledge and understanding of the building and its inner-workings really impressed my clients; so much so that they completely revamped their original housing plans and went with a high-rise. From the very first interaction I could tell this team of staff members was far from average. Now, I'm in my final month at this place that has become a home I have nothing but positives to say about the experience. This is my favorite new high rise downtown. The beauty is in the details and finish outs. The sky lounge has the best views in town. Complete with a bartender for happy hour. Right on the lake and a beautiful skyline from each patio. The best part of The Catherine is you can walk to downtown and the nightlife but you are not going to be stuck in the downtown traffic. Easy access to South Congress,I35 and Mopac. The finish outs include custom cabinetry, designer wood closets, built in wifi Bluetooth stereo systems, recessed lighting and built in wine storage. I have a friend who lives at The Catherine and when I was visiting my car was accidentally towed (I parked 5th floor and away from resident parking for less than 24 hrs). Even tho I don't live there, the manager called the tow company and had my impound fee refunded. They gave me the benefit of the doubt, followed up in a timely manner and made me feel like I was a priority. If I lived in Austin I would definitely consider living there over other places downtown. read more

can't say enough good things about living there for the past 2 years. everyone at the front desk (Jay, Jamal, Leigha, etc) and management were incredibly friendly and not just "because they have to". we moved to start putting all that rent money into a house (rent would always go up every time the lease was up but that's pretty standard). anyway the maintenance was always prompt and on point. probably most importantly though - the residents you run into all the time were the best and we made some really good friends there. friendly, genuine.. tons of dog owners. joining a volleyball league at Aussies ended up being an unexpectedly perfect amenity. after creeping on all the people playing there for the first few months we had to join it. summertime the place feels like a community and they make a good effort all year round to sponsor events up top at the bar/common area or down at the pool every few weeks. would work from home once a week and working from the top is like an extension of your living room - not many people would be up there during the day. we looked south (not city side) and you get good views of the green hill country. there is some construction going on during the day with the new building they're putting on the south side where we were. i'm not sure how long until it's done but my girlfriend didn't seem to mind it and the windows do a good job of keeping noise out. if you need somewhere to call home don't hesitate. read more

What an incredible place!! The sky lounge is an amazing amenity, not to mention all of the well thought-out details included throughout the entire building. Truly, this is downtown living at it's finest. The owners, managers, and staff desire the best for everyone who visits/lives there. The Skylounge plus the fabulous management and staff....that's the answer as to why you'd choose the Catherine over all of the other offerings. Every apartment building has pluses and minuses, but none of them have Rachel and her team and you really can't appreciate how good they are until you live here. Plus the only penthouse bar with spectacular views of the city... it's just like Cheers where "everyone knows your name" but with cool decor and a grill. And it's our little secret. read more

We just moved into The Catherine a few weeks ago and are overjoyed!! Shawn, in the leasing office, took such good care of us and was so patient and pleasant with our kids. We submitted our first service request late last night and it was taken care of by noon today. The concierges at the front desk are always so polite and willing to help with anything. Every staff member I have come into contact with is professional and willing to go above and beyond to help. The Skybar Lounge on the 19th Floor is stunning. The view is one of the best I have seen in the whole city. Thank you to everyone at The Catherine, especially Shawn (leasing office) & Steve (the front desk), for the warm welcome. read more
