10/17/25: If you value honesty, integrity, and professionalism; DO NOT (I repeat DO NOT) use this company! Both of the technicians who came out to assist with the issue we had with our heating system were GREAT, but because of a silly mistake made by the first tech (he didn't flip the emergency shut off switch back up before he left) the company is attempting to charge us $150 for the second tech to come out and flip the switch. When I emailed the GM, Karl, to politely request that this fee be waived he responded that he wasn't sure what actually happened between the time the tech left on Saturday night (close to 7pm) to when I called again on Wednesday (around 2:30pm) but that everything was working fine. He also claimed that the time between tech visits was 6 days...that math isn't mathing...it was about 3.5 days! I am a new customer to the company and THIS is the first impression that I am receiving. Karl thinks that I should be grateful that a tech came out on Saturday. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that someone was able to come out and I explained that I was happy to pay the service charge for that visit, but I do not believe that I should be charged for the initial tech's negligence in flipping a switch. I'm a pretty laid back person, but when I'm insulted for not using their techs for an installation and disrespected for voicing a concern and opinion, I will no longer be giving your company any additional business. They have officially lost another customer...within less than a year. read more

My 20 year old furnace did a flame out and smoked out the cellar. I did have a few years back a local company that i called to check out my oil furnace for blowing the high pressure valve and all i got was a bunch of new parts and a big bill.i called Haffners and was told $175 to come out and look at it. Who can i trust ? I saw a company start a shop down the road from me called MacKenzie heating, called them and said i have no hot water or heat and need someone NOW. They sent over a very young tech who did a great job cleaning and testing the furnace and advised that it did need a new inside mat where the flame meets the wall. Scheduled it and it was installed 2 weeks later. Has run good ever since it was cleaned. read more

The absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced with a business. Called an hour and a half before a scheduled service to cancel because other customers were more important! Rescheduled for a later date. A half hour after the scheduled time I had to call them to make sure they were still coming. No phone call to me to let me know Technician was running late. Gave me a 2 hour window after original scheduled appointment. Still no one, and again, no phone call. Had to call emergency number as the Office was closed. Technician finally showed up 3 1/2 hours after scheduled time. Not the only bad experience I encountered with them but I will leave it at that. Just lost my business and will definitely steer others away from them as well. read more

They've earned these reviews. 3 years ago I called with a Mitsubishi split system not working. Considering they are a Mitsubishi Diamond installer and they already supplied my propane and oil it was a no brainer. They decided to "parts cannon" my Mitsubishi mini split with $2,000 worth of circuit boards and still couldn't explain why it wasn't working. After 15 minutes of me investigating I found a mouse had chewed through the communications cable at the condenser (an area the first tech that came already had apart and failed to see it), I stripped it back and re-terminated and it worked fine, and continues to work fine 3 years later. Showed evidence to Brent and he went silent, not even an apology, and that's all I wanted. I already had a 608 certification from the Navy and ended up taking some hvac classes after this because I was so pissed. read more

I had MacKenzie HVAC install an entire central air system in my new home in 2002. For 22 years working good with maybe 4 or 5 service calls. The last 2 calls were for low refrigerant due to leakage. A recommendation by service reps to replace the outside compressor and the inside air handler coil. I scheduled an appointment for an estimate. Sales & Account Manager Brent MacKenzie came out and surveyed the site. The 1st question he asked was if I would be interested in changing my Propane provider to MacKenzie Fuels. He assured me that he could beat any compeditor's price. He gave me a brochure for the compressor and said he would email me the estimate. 3 weeks later, no estimate. I called and left a message for Brent, no response. 3 days later I called again and spoke with the receptionist who said Brent was on the other line and would have him call me when he freed up. More days later, no response. Maybe I should have switched Propane providers to get my AC estimate? Needless to say I will not be doing anymore business with MacKenzie HVAC read more

I cannot recommend MacKenzie HVAC. A few years ago, when we purchased a home in NH, and noticed our central AC system was not working well we had them come onsite to evaluate and service our equipment. They told us we should stop running the system immediately, and that it all needed to be replaced, was not serviceable. Our system is a SEER10 system, and the proposed replacement was only SEER14. No big jump in efficiency. They wanted $14K for the replacement, as it would require a new external compressor, and high velocity air handler in a tight space in the attic. Well, since this quote I learned a lot about HVAC and Central AC systems. Turns out it's quite common for the air handler condensation drains to get plugged up. Ours was. So I figured out how to drain it and get it to drain properly out of the house. One issue solved. Then I realized how dirty the heat exchangers outside were around the compressor. Bought the proper cleaning products and got them cleaned and reassembled. Something else that fails quite regularly on the outside compressors are the large capacitors that help to power the compressor and blower fans. I think the replacement cost me $14 and is a very, very simple process to replace. So I replaced that as well. Since then my upstairs A/C system works quite nice. And I'm out a few hours of my time, some elbow grease, some cleaning products, and a $14 capacitor. This experience leaves me uneasy, because I felt like I was almost taken advantage of. Why didn't MacKenzie simply offer a service to clean my heat exchangers, test/replace my capacitor, and fix my drainage issue? I guess I'll never know. But if you need someone to evaluate your system I'd suggest you look elsewhere. read more

They were timely, friendly, and professional. They even took time to be friendly with my cats. I seriously can't recommend them highly enough. Today, Thursday July 21st, I contacted Mackenzie heating regarding my AC not working. It is on 72 and reads 82. I spoke with Joy @ customer service as an emergency call. She informed me that they were extremely backed up and couldn't come out. I do have a maintenance appointment on July 27th. Which is several days from now. Weather is going to be in the 90's next several days. As senior citizens this is considered urgent. I explained I am a customer and do have a maintenance agreement with Mackenzie. Joy was quite condescending and told me I did not have a maintenance agreement that it was up in April. Now, I want to preface my decision to do business with Mackenzie. First, I was referred by a neighbor. Second, I was told as a maintenance customer I would have priority if there was an emergency...which did not happen. Third, I was told the maintenance agreement is through April. I was very clear that I am a summer resident and did not return until June. I was told then that is not a problem. When I was contacted in April, I again explained I was a summer resident and would not be returning until June. Again, was told no problem.I then made my appointment for maintenance service. Joy told me it wasn't her problem that I am a seasonal customer. She was very poor in representing Mackenzie. Last year I had Mackenzie service tech come out twice, first time to do maintenance, second time was an emergency visit to put refrigerant in the AC. Also, technician in the second visit in July 2021 advised I should have the unit serviced in July not earlier as it gave false readings on the refrigerant levels at the spring visit. I asked to speak to her superior and was transferred to the GM and left a message. So far I haven't heard back from anyone. I do not want to give a poor or mediocre review as I am aware Mackenzie does have a good reputation. However, a review is required. I am very disappointed in the customer service. MacKenzie installed a new furnace at our condo right before we purchased it and had we had several service calls in the first three years because the heat was not working. They would "fix" something under warranty but then something else would happen that was not covered and they charged us. We finally switched to another service two years ago and after the new company fixed the issue, we haven't had a single problem with the heat. I tried working with the owner before switching but he was taking no ownership for the issues. We meticulously maintained the furnace but at a few years old, there should be no issues. This company just gouges their customers and doesn't care about making sure they are taken care of. read more

I had Mackenzie heating and cooling come out Nov. 2018 to tune up my furnace for the season as I always do. I shop around for the best price but this season (2018-2019) I was having trouble finding anyone to do it before Christmas so I landed on Mackenzie heating and oil. to make this story as short as possible I'll tell you that within several days my furnace stopped running. Mackenzie sent the tech back out, he was here again after that. he got it running again but by the end of December it sounded funny so I took a look and found a filter thick with soot. Mackenzie kept at it and the more they did the worse things got, to the point that I had to replace the furnace. right off the bat the motor had to be replaced and when the furnace is running its causing burning eyes and headaches, and now they refuse to correct these issues. my advice is find another heating co. to service your heating system as this was a nightmare and continues to be. read more

MacKenzie installed our Burnham gas boiler in 2006 and we've been a member of their annual "maintenance" program since. Our problems began in 2010 when one of the connections developed a leak due to rotted fittings. We were surprised that such a new boiler would develop a leak, but it was repaired and largely forgotten. In 2013 a low water switch was replaced, and now, in 2014, there is both a new leak, in a different location, and failure of the replacement low water switch (fortunately still under warranty from 2013). In all, 3 of the last 4 years have seen significant problems (and repairs) despite the fact the boiler is less than 8 years old and well maintained! Last Friday morning MacKenzie was called about the new leak. We were told to expect the repair technician that afternoon. At 3 pm we called again and were told we were "next-on-the-list". At almost 6 pm we called again and reached the emergency technician (we later learned the office staff had failed to dispatch the call on Friday so no technician was assigned). At 7 pm the emergency technician finally arrived but did not have the necessary components to complete the work. The repairs were finally completed 5 days later, but not before the boiler had stopped working and we'd awakened to a cold house and no hot water. We are thoroughly unhappy with the system that was installed and the service that's been provided by MacKenzie. The yearly "maintenance program" appears to have had little effect on the problems we've encountered over the last several years, and is in my opinion, a waste of money. Should you need to call for service, the first words out of the office staff's mouth will be "there is a $99.00 charge for the visit" and NOT "how can we help you". The focus is on money, money, and MONEY! It appears that multiple leaks, breakdowns, and failed components keep MacKenzie in business so might be a good thing from their perspective. We, on the other hand, are very unhappy with our fragile and problem-prone system! We would definitely NOT recommend MacKenzie sales or service to anyone - and we will be looking elsewhere for a company to service our heating needs in the future. read more

After several requests to speak to a manager, Carl called and explained that he had been on vacation. He defended the charges, arguing that they performed an additional "task" by pushing the relight button of my water heater pilot, during the process of diagnosing the reason that the pilot was out. I still disagree with his reasoning, but after reviewing my billing history and fifteen years of servicing all of the heating and cooling needs of our 3 unit condominium, he agreed to provide me a credit for the additional cost above the Service Call charge towards future annual service. Although we were unable to reach a meeting of the minds, I am satisfied that there was an accommodation. read more

Well not sure where to start but I will try to keep it short. Mackenzie heating and cooling Seabrook NH had been servicing my gas boiler for the last 10-12 years. Not anymore!!!! Really started to go downhill 3 years ago when they took great advantage of us and really gouged us on the labor cost to replace my boiler that Buderus supplied as no charge warrantee replacement. The techs had been pretty sharp and cordial; fortunately never saw much of them except at yearly service. In the last two years, it went downhill. Last year had to call them back to get the boiler running after they serviced it. Same again this year. Except this time, it did not last. It stopped firing when we were away on vacation. Fortunately nothing froze! I got it running, identified a connection issue as best I could. They came out looked for 2 min, did ZERO troubleshooting or testing, and came back to us with an estimate of $700 in materials to replace the auto vent damper assembly. Conversed with Karl "that was ridiculous", it worked [flawless for 13 months] before his service tech came and did my annual cleaning service. His attitude was that his tech [who had already been dismissed from employment] would not have done anything wrong and it was all on me. Well it has been worked on and discovered that they destroyed the connection on the PC Board, leaving me with an unreliable heating system control. I would not let Mackenzie back into my home to change a light bulb, never mind let them service as important a system like a Gas Boiler!!!! I recommend you avoid them completely they are untrustworthy, deceptive, and unreliable. read more

I asked Mackenzie Heating and Cooling to provide a quote for a Mitsubishi split AC system for my log cabin. I spent a good deal of time discussing what I wanted with the sales manager, Karl Lundorf. I was very specific and repetitive with the detail that I want a brown colored product for the tubing cover, to match my cedar log cabin. Karl visited a second time to discuss placement of the exchange and condenser, as well as complete the paperwork. The quote I was provided did not specify color, but based on our discussions and Karl stating that he understood what I wanted, I moved forward with the assumption that I would be getting what I expected. We reviewed the placement of the exchange/vent (high in a room with vaulted ceiling, and Karl provided me a hangar that I needed to install. On the day of the install, the installers commented that they had no idea the unit was being installed so high, and that they didn't have a tall enough ladder. As they unpacked the tubing for the outside, I saw that it was bright white, and told them I was expecting brown. They called Karl, and he told the crew that this was a surprise to him. They gave me the phone and Karl told me that we never discussed the color of the tubing, that I was probably mistaking our discussion with one from another provider from whom I got a quote, that no one ever orders it on brown, and that it would be difficult to do. He was defensive and demeaning, and dismissive of what I wanted. I handed the phone back to the installers and said that I did not want to talk to that man (Karl) again, as he was an insulting moron. Instead of reaching out to me to better understand what I wanted and offering helpful solutions to resolve the issue, Karl followed up with an unprofessional email further insulting me by telling me I was immature, and that I was welcome to take my business elsewhere. I told him he needed to complete the project as provided in the quote that I had already signed, and that I would hold him to the standard of professionalism. He complained that the color was, and hard to find as well as expensive, but within two days they had the correct color I asked for, for a mere $125 additional fee. This issue was fully resolved by Karl paying attention and doing what was asked of him in the first place, with a mere 2 days effort to locate and procure the parts ad a small additional fee. I had to have my time wasted and endure poor service and insulting behavior because I called this person out on their mistake. Karl further insulted me by telling me that my issue with the placement of the exchange being very high (and the crew being unprepared by not having a ladder high enough), was my fault because I chose the placement. However, we looked at the placement together and he knew that the unit would be placed high; the issue was that he clearly failed to do a thorough job by communicating with the installers. They were so unprepared that I had to use one of my ladders, and help they lift the unit so that they could install the exchange. I did write to the owner (Scott Mackenzie) and explained the situation. While he was kind enough to respond, he did state that "The Technicians receive photos and diagrams from Karl with the Install instructions, they review and load the stock and tools required for the job. Based on the location in the photos they assumed the ladder they had would be sufficient." This is clearly inaccurate because the very first thing the installers said was that they didn't even know the room was two stories high (we have vaulted ceilings). If they saw pictures, they would have known the ceilings were vaulted. Scott also commented that, "Calling someone immature after telling our installing technicians he's a "insulting moron" was probably a reasonable response." I would suggest that if your primary concerns for an AC install are quality of the product and the installation, Mackenzie Heating and Cooling may be an appropriate dealer. However, if you think that you deserve professionalism and accountability from start to finish, clear expectations from the sales manager and a company that is willing to rally around making sure those expectations are met and that you are not insulted by them when they make a mistake, or if you think physically assisting in the install because of a sales manager's poor planning and communication is not appropriate, you may wish to find someone that can better meet your expectations. read more

My gas furnace died during the blizzard in early March. I called MacKenzie & they were there the next morning. Ryan diagnosed it as a cracked heat exchanger after running through many tests. This meant that I needed a new furnace. He gave me an estimate & said he could replace it the next day. I already knew that MacKenzie was excellent from when I had them install a ductless A/C unit for me a few years ago. The next day they were there at 8 a.m. & started removing the old furnace. 4 hours later I had a new 95% efficient gas furnace up & running. How do you beat that? A few years ago i purchased a full house generator from MacKenzie. Big mistake. The generator has not worked from the day of installation to today. This was one of they're first attempts to get in to the generator business. There have been over a dozen service calls to try to rectify the problems over the years to no avail. After the installation we had a power failure for 16 hours. They came and said they could not fix the problem. They said they would put a gas powered hook up to my furnace. Problem was no one knew how to hook it up. Went the 16 hours with no power. Another time they told me they were sending one of their workers to the Koeler factory in the midwest. He was going to learn all about the service necessary to repair the generator. His name was Tom. A short time later he left the company. I have paid close or over $20,000.00 to MacKenzie for installation, service calls, and repairs. Last monday was the last straw. Had a brief power failure at 2:45 am. Generator went on. As soon as the power came back, the generator continued to run and I had to go outside to manually shut the system down. I live in a condo and by the time i got to the generator to shut it off,I woke up all my neighbors. I checked with the power company to make sure there was a failure. There was a failure in my area at that time. Soon I will be speaking with someone who will help me recover all the monies I have spent. We had this company do work for us and the product they installed has never worked properly. When we had them come to fix it, even though it never worked properly, they charged us over $600 to correct the problem. Even then the product didn't work. We had to purchase a similar product from another company and we have never had a problem with it. read more

My neighbor scheduled a service visit from Mackenzie. The serviceman showed up an hour before the scheduled time even though my neighbor told them they wouldn't be home at that time. He banged on my door, went to my back door, banged on it and then opened my door and entered my home looking for someone to let him into their home. This type of intrusion is offensive and should not be tolerated. When I called their office to complain, they felt this was acceptable behavior and totally blew it off.
