I got to experience Shangri-La as part of a walking tour of the highlands foodie spots, and was absolutely blown away by the Panini's and the quality of the food so I had to come back. The owner is very passionate about making high quality food, and it comes through. The sandwiches are so great in large part to the amazing quality of the bread that is used, and the extreme freshness of the ingredients. But what puts it over the top is the creativeness of the menu to be both simple and flavorful. I'd highly suggest this as one of, if not the, best place to grab a sandwich for lunch. Walked in for lunch to go, walked out with that and more! The people working there are friendly and easy to talk to while your order is being prepared. The food is fresh, tasty, and reasonably priced. There is a wide selection of paninis, baked goods, and salads if you're looking for a meal. They also have a wide selection of Yerba Mate tea and Kevita on top of the usual sodas, sparkling water, etc. if you don't want one of their various coffee offerings. I have been coming here since 20111 so finally time to leave a review:) As always I get an almond milk latte, and I usually stop here when in need and in the northwest part of town. As always, the latte is one of the best in town, and e service is always friendly and fast. This place is the REAL DEAL! The coffee is good, the sandwiches are crazy good, and the people are as friendly as they come. I consider myself to be a "sandwich-man"... I like anything from a good P.B. and J., to a mayo smothered sandwich from Jimmy John's. However, you will never have another sandwich like these! If you could attach the word "gourmet" (but totally affordable) to a sandwich, that is the only word that does these little gems justice. This place is just the best there is. The staff (Mossimo and Mark), are so friendly and make give it a truly appealing neighborhood feel. The menu includes some incredible italian panini's unlike anything I've had in Denver. That, and they steep their coffee overnight so it is zesty and smooth for you. my coffee grinder broke this morning, which totally sucks, but it finally gave me an excuse to walk myself and my pooch to Shangri-La. i like coffee, i mean...caffeine. a lot. and while i'm no expert, i know what i like. the place had a cool vibe- or it could have a cool vibe if it hadn't been overrun with douchebag businessmen. i'm sure it's not like that all the time. just when i go. it's next to lola's and vita restaurant, and with all the condos going up in that 'hood, i expect some of the clientele to be snooty yuppies, but really, that can't be helped anymore. the barista dude seemed cool and unpretentious. which is always nice. i ordered a medium (16 oz.) latte with an extra shot. 3.25 plus 50 cents for an extra shot. prices weren't bad, really- though it isn't like i sat comparing prices to other places that i've visited. and it helps that the coffee is a HELL of a lot better than you'd get at someplace that starts with S and ends in Bucks. (is there a coincidence that their name ends in "bucks"? didn't think so...) Shangri-La doesn't use any of that pre-ground crap and they brew Coda Coffee- which is pretty great. there's free wi-fi (note to self: bring computer next time), a selection of pre-made sandwiches and salads that are made in house, pastries and all that other stuff you'd expect from a coffee shop. i'll go there again. read more

I was really craving a coffee fix after spin class so I decided to give Shangri-La Coffee a second chance. Can I say that I was more than just pleasantly surprised, I was blown away. The barista, Mark, was fantastic and friendly, talking with all the patrons and making everyone feel right at home. I spent a few hours here meeting everyone and enjoying a great cup of coffee. I LOVE SHANGRI-LA! Seriously, the best cup of coffee in town. Not to mention the delicious salads, sammies, and other treats! I work in the neighborhood and have been several times to buy their mad grain salad (yum!). However, today one of my coworkers announced she was going to do a coffee run to our favorite shop and began taking orders. I am vegan, which means a good portion of my diet consists or soy products, although I do my best to avoid it. So, I don't very much like to add any unnecessary soy to my diet, and considering that is usually the only vegan option at other coffee focused establishments, I will often decline partaking in coffee excursions. "What's this you say? Shangri-La has vegan options other than soy? And their chocolate goodness for mochas is also dairy-free?! Count me in!" I ended up with a delicious vegan, rice milk, mocha. Actually, I'm pretty sure "delicious" falls short in describing the pure heaven I experienced this morning. Perhaps I sound nutty, going on and on about a simple mocha! However, as a girl that grew up on a coffee farm in the hills of Kona, Hawaii, I tend to be a bit snobbish about my coffee treats. It's my belief that a good cup of coffee doesn't need anything in it to be good. If I have to add stuff to it then it's not very good coffee. I take the coffee from Shangri-La black. It's hot and not burned. I like that if I'm in too much of a rush in the a.m. to make my own I can grab a cup here and it's equally as good. I work around the corner so that's helpful, too. The staff have never been rude, but are usually quite busy so it's not like they are taking time to chat either. Nothing wrong with that. All in all it's a nice little place to grab a good cup of coffee. read more

Dropped by Shangri-La this morning to meet friends for a impromptu coffee talk. The location of this place is ideal. Tucked cozily between two of Denver's hipper restaurants, Lola's and Vita, and ideally located in up and coming neighborhood, Shangri-La exudes charm and provides strong coffee. Due to lack of time, I did not sample the delcious looking pastries, however, the coffee satisfied my palate and definately kick started my morning. My only complaint is the size of the shop. Very small inside, but the patio would be awesome come summertime. Hence this place would be great for an intimate coffee date, or studying by yourself. Larger groups may find it cramped. Will be coming back tho. :-) read more

Great little spot! Everything is delicious and speedy. However, it definitely is not the least expensive option so beware as the Yelp page shows only 1 $. I ordered a small albeit delicious pastry which came to nearly $6 and as well as a coffee and a sandwich and the total came to over $22. Expect well balanced coffee and well-sourced ingredients...bresaola and lemon oil and fig marsala spread and bread with gluten toothiness. Staffed with charm and attention to detail. Wifi fast enough enough for noonday hordes of laptop visigoths, if they were to appear; in reality, ne'er too crowded. Speaking of barbarians, LoHi developers should subsidize the existence of Shangi-La; it makes a highly leveraged real estate opportunity feel like a neighborhood. An unexpected treat during Denver Restaurant Week.. We had reservations for Lola's next door and arrived early to walk around and explore the shops.. however it ended up being bitterly cold so we ducked inside for some coffee.. What a treat! Fun barista gave everyone trouble.. (We like that in a barista) and the coffee was outstanding. Too bad it was later in the day and the pastry case was empty..... from hearing about the baker, we really wanted to sample several items. We'll be back. read more
