I write in the first instance to thank and commend John G. & Jimmy M. who replaced a Weil-McClain gas heater/boiler at our home at 39 Brimmer Street last week. It was a difficult, complicated job done in a physically very limited area. By the time John and Jim arrived, we had had no heat or hot water for 5 days. An emergency hot water heater had been installed a couple of days before they arrived but it did not seem to generate very much hot water since the house, an old brownstone, has six floors. John and Jimmy could not have been more accommodating, professional, competent and informative. They are two men who obviously know what they are doing and, more importantly, are able to communicate what they know and what they are doing and why to customers who are both unhappy and far less knowledgeable than they are. They were punctual and clear about when they arrive and leave. They covered the area in drop clothes and other materials in a genuine effort to keep the area clean. As you all know, removal of a unit of this size and age is neither easy nor neat. Yet they did it on time and with what we would regard as minimal mess. If there is way for you to recognize just how good these guys are and to appreciate the value they bring to your company, we would be grateful. macfarlane energy has served me and my family for years. we have been customers since 1990 when it was formerly called peter macfarlane oil co. never once, did they let me run out of oil in the twenty-three years I have been a customer. the price has always been competitive with other full service companies. most of all the service and maintenance provided for my heating system has always been superb. we have an older system that recently stopped working, we had no hot water, not fun believe me. nothing worse than taking a cold shower before work. I called macfarlane energy and they had a technician out to my house within a half hour. the technician came out to repair the system and had it running fifteen minutes later. it turned out that the old motor was no good. I definitely want to mention the technician, his name was Allan. he was so knowledgeable and friendly. I had a bunch of questions I had asked him about whether it was time to replace my system or not. he had great expertise and advice on the subject and gave me a lot better understanding on what would be involved with such a undertaking. mr. macfarlane should definitely give this technician a raise, he is the best technician we have had come to our house in all the years we have been with the company. I will definitely recommend macfarlane energy to any and all persons who ask. read more

MacFarlane has been delivering oil to us since we moved into our home (7 years ago). They have always delivered on time and we have never had any issues running out of oil. We also have an annual service contract with them and they always reach out to schedule an appointment to maintain our boiler. Early this week, I noticed we had almost no oil left in the tank. When I called to ask about that, they said that I had placed a hold on deliveries while I got my leaking oil tank replaced. That's right! I had forgotten about that. I removed the hold and they delivered oil that very day (after double-checking with me that I had my oil tank replaced by a reputable company to ensure there would be no problems when filling the tank). Then, that very night, we came home to find that one of our heating zones had stopped working. Within one hour of our call, Darren came out to see if he could help. He was extremely nice and professional and fixed the problem within 10 minutes. A couple of years ago, MacFarlane was also quite responsive when our A/C wasn't functioning properly. They responded promptly to our call and had the A/C up and running quickly. Given the great service and the reasonable oil rates, I wouldn't think about switching away from this company. I plan to stick with them as long as I continue to live in my home. read more

Fantastic experience. We called when our elderly father's 15 year old furnace started smoking badly on Thanksgiving week. His previous oil delivery company declared that the furnace would have to be replaced at a cost of $5000-$6000. We then started calling around to see if someone else could look at it. No one was interested in coming out. MacFarlane said they thought they could repair it, and quoted us about $1500. And they wanted us to switch to them for oil delivery - I was more than happy to switch! Tony came out, and had to work very hard - basically rebuilding a lot of the chamber. He also changed the oil filter, which looked like it hadn't been changed in 15 years! When he was done, the furnace fired up and Tony ran an efficiency test. It was within one percent of what it was originally rated as. He thought the efficiency would improve as it ran for a few days. Tony was personable, professional and extremely knowledgeable. When the bill came, it was for just over $710! I couldn't be happier with the entire MacFarlane team. read more

On Thursday February 20th i found out my oil burner needed to be replaced as this was emergency, i had no heat or hot water. Ken from MacFarlane Energy called me on Friday February 21st at 7:10 AM and told me not to worry that someone was going to be at my home that day to install a new burner and by 8:00 AM John Gearin was at my home. John Gearin reassured me that my heat would be on that day and and within the next hour there were trucks coming and going another technician came to help with the install and another truck came with the new burner and another truck told the old burner out. It was something to see. Thank you Ken, John and the other technician for all that was done to get my heat back on so quickly. I'be been a customer for many many years and have gone through all the consolidation of companies JJ Fuel to Myers Bros to North Shore fuel to now MacFarlane Energy and I'm so glad I've never changed my provider. I recently had my annual maintenance service performed by Tom Coolberth, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. Tom did a fantastic job tuning my oil burner, bringing it up to an impressive 87% efficiency. It's reassuring to know the system is running at such a high level heading into the next season. Beyond the technical work, Tom took the time to walk me through the different service contract options. He clearly explained how the various tiers work, which was incredibly eye-opening. Understanding that emergency service calls in the dead of winter can easily climb into the $400-$500 range, and that standard hourly rates can hit $250/hour, really helped me see the long-term value of having the right coverage in place. It's rare to find a service engineer who is both technically skilled and willing to help the customer navigate the financial side of home maintenance. I am writing to let you know how happy I am with both the service and oil department at MacFarlane Oil Last month I purchased my first oilheat home. I did not have an oil provider and ran myself out of oil. I have a new born son and found myself not only out of oil but also with a broken heating system. I called MacFarlane Oil late in the afternoon and was surprised that they were able to get me a delivery within the hour and repair my system that evening. My A/C quit in the midst of a heat wave, and after reading great reviews, I called MacFarlane on Monday morning at 11. Dan was at my door by 8 am the next morning, quickly saw that all the freon had leaked out and called for another truck to come test for the source of the leak. I was skeptical, since I had never used the company before, but Frank C. showed up a little while later. The condenser was shot. Not a surprise--it's 18 years old. Frank quoted me a fair price (I did my research) for the condenser; an hour or so later, 3 trucks arrived to take away the old and bring in the new, and I had A/C that afternoon. Every service person on the team was prompt, thoughtful, professional, and efficient. I never write reviews, but this company so deserves one. read more

MacFarlane's team saved our summer. Our air conditioning condenser broke down, and we called 'another AC company.' That company couldn't come out for a week, and when they did, they charged us a fee just to show up. The cost tripled after they installed a $20 part that they already had on the truck for $200, and doubled down by trying to convince me to replace more parts that were working fine 'just to be safe.' And a week later? The entire system shut down again. We called MacFarlane. A tech was on site that day, diagnosed a faulty repair, had all the correct parts, and had the system working again within an hour. I don't think you'll find a better Heating and A/C company than this one. I should know. I tried many of them before finding MacFarlane. Always nice on the phone. Always very prompt and professional. Really stands behind their work,even the next season after they installed my central air condenser. No questions asked. And prices have been reasonable and within market range, and they work with you on payment. Tony who just did my oil burner tune up couldn't have been nicer, more professional and expert. What more can you ask for? My only comment is that I don't like to see companies using worker reviews and ratings to motivate them. After feeling pretty ripped-off by the provider we'd used forever, I did my homework and made the call to MacFarlane. The price was right on and although there was no urgency, I received all the requested info via email within minutes and within an hour of replying to that email, received a call asking if I'd like a technician to come the same day to survey our heating system. Very impressed. Within an hour of that call, Dennis arrived, did his thing, asked if we'd like to have the system serviced right then and in another hour or less it was all done and good-to-go. I have used them for heating oil for about 5 years. Their prices have always been fair, I like how they offer the same competitive price for all their customers and that I do not have to haggle. I have recieved many post cards from other companies with a low low price but when I call to find out their real price it is much higher than MacFarlane Oil. I like not having to worry about getting a fair price I always seem to get a fair price. Their service department is friendly and knowledgable and I just recently found out they do air conditioning and offer service policies. If you want a heating oil company you can trust to give you a good price and stellar service I would recommend these guys. read more

Great experience. The heat on our second floor stopped working overnight. I called MacFarlane -- with whom we have a service agreement for our heating systems -- at 8:30am, and a knowledgeable service tech (Rob M.) was at our house an hour later. Rob quickly diagnosed and resolved the problem, even replacing a valve that may have been the cause as a preventive measure for the future. In addition to being very skilled, Rob was also friendly and professional -- a pleasure to have in our home. Jason S and Jimmy M (Service Pro), together fixed everything. They are incredibly knowledgeable and work brilliantly as a team. Boomer (service manager) took the time to come to our home to assess the problems with our oil fired hot water heater needing the air bled from the line 3 times per month. He proposed a no cost solution to fix the issue. When this solution did not fully work, he proposed paying for the labor and us paying for the parts (a most equitable solution, since this service was not covered by their comprehensive service contract). I was quite pleased with the thoughtful process put into resolving this problem. The service technician showed up on time, was professional and took care to leave our home clean. I'm writing this review for Kraig Williams. I recently had him for a service recently. What I liked most about kraig is his patience to listen to me rambling about what I think I wanted. After attentively listening to me . He realized that the job I want to get done wasn't possible and he made sure he took the time without any rush to explain as much as I want that job done and he would like to do it . I will have complications later which I wasn't looking at it that way. I just glad he was patient, lend me his good listening ear and he gave me good advice why my plan will not work that.
