Just a few hours ago I had this company come to my residence to clear a backed up sewer line. After checking they asked if i had a bucket available to catch the flow, I offered my shop vac to used. They denied it. Once they finish they rushed out while letting me know I need to get a professional to come clean up after. The mess was raw sewage that they let shoot out of the pipe onto the basement floor. They made no attempt to catch it or clean it up. i am not struggling to find someone to help clean up this huge mess they left I would never recommend this company to anyone read more

If I could give this business a NEGATIVE star rating I would! Spoke to GEORGE FROM Macaulay Sewer service on 06/05/2026. Asked about their availability on a clogged drain issue; He advised me his availability and I let him know I would call him back later in the afternoon on the same day to confirm the appointment/service. (meaning if I would have chosen to use them!) I did not get to call back the same day. The next morning someone knocks on my door and it's someone from his business explaining "my boss sent me for a clogged drain". I was shocked & replied "I'm sorry but I do not need your services; & that I NEVER EVEN CONFIRMED with your boss to come out for the service call." The guy said ok; and that was it. Well 13 days later I received a BILL and am being charged for service that I NEVER requested/USED; all this guy GEORGE could respond over the phone is that "he didn't "recall our phone call", and played the amnesia card. He Demanded the only way out of this ordeal is to PAY HIM! Why would I pay you sir???; I didn't confirm any appointments with you, you sent someone to my house by your own doing. And not even considering that you're a business owner would you decide to handle this the right way-other than to try and SCAM me out of my money BECAUSE YOU MADE A MISTAKE!?! Used him almost a year and a half ago when I first purchased my home built in the 50s. We knew it was a problem drain from the home inspection so after attempting all the solutions and unsuccessfully snaking it ourselves we called the pros. The drain would be good for a day or 2 then right back to being clogged again. It took him 3 times coming back to 100% fix the problem, but when he finally figured it out we haven't had an issue since. And when I called him the 2nd and 3rd time he was punctual and was just as nice as the first time he came over and got paid. Wouldn't hesitate to call again. A1 Service !!! These guys come in a really take care of business. I have used them before and never had a platform other than word of mouth to really share my experience. Today my upstairs bathroom sink was backing up into my downstairs bathroom sink so basically they came in and found the correct pipeline . When they opened up the line all I heard was the loudest gush! Now some companies would have used those sound effects to describe something horrible and expensive but he didn't . These guys were not afraid to get their hands dirty to get the job done. The pricing was extremely fair in my opinion . After a full day Saturday cooking for the week - the kitchen was in high gear. So was the garbage disposal. We were cleaning up Sat PM and all three sinks in the kitchen stopped working. We never had a clog before and I guess we were due and it was a real show stopper (multiple doses of OTC drain cleaner didn't budge the water. Sunday AM, calling plumbers from Basking Ridge Mom's FB page - one returned my call. Kip from Thomas Plumbing called me back and gave me George Macaulay's number (Kip Thomas does not do snaking/rooting). I called and he picked up right away and said he'd be here in an hour and half. Spot on he was here, explained exactly what he was doing and cleared the clog and cleaned up after himself - (basement was cleaner when he left). We had a problem with our washing machine draining..every time we set the water load to 3/4 or full it would overflow onto the basement floor. I called Macaulay Sewer at 9:45 PM and received a call back the first thing in the AM. Macaulay scheduled me for that afternoon. George, the owner, arrived in a professional manner and went right to work on the problem. Within an hour he had the drain cleared and running freely. Besides that the price was a SUPER deal! George is "the man." A frozen sump pump drain left me with a flooded basement. We called these guys and they showed up pretty quickly. While we were busy cleaning up the mess, George and his helper were trying to break thru the blockage, cut through the pvc pipe for better access, even brought in the power snaking cable with cutting tip. But after about an hour he figured it wasn't going to give, he said he wasn't going to be able to break thru the ice (we could feel the cutting tip was cold), so he advised that I just wait it out until it thawed. He packed up and left (he installed a rubber coupler where he had cut the pvc), and did not charge me ANYTHING because he could not fix the problem. Wow... like another reviewer wrote, that's good old service that you really don't see much anymore. I would call him for the next job I have, no question. Honest and trustworthy, gave me a great impression. In my opinion I'd say that you can be assured that George will do a great job for a fair price. I've learned that George does not do all sorts of plumbing work, I believe he is limited to drain clearing. Too bad because I'd have him over all the time! read more

I don't write reviews. But, this guy earned it. We had a clogged drainage pipe that leads to the public sewer. Macaulay came and snaked it, which worked for about 2 weeks. The second time out, he said, don't worry about any additional payment, they were there to make sure the job got done. A second snaking yielded more roots and a second clog. Great. Not 3 weeks later, yet another clog, this time in a different place. Not only were Macaulay there in under 2hrs...he said it was related to the first call they made and wouldn't accept a check. That's old fashioned service, and I'd highly recommend them to anybody in a similar situation. read more

I only rated one star since 0 stars wasn't an option. I had this company come to clear a blocked sewer line the day before Thanksgiving. They came that night and used a snake that came in sections and had to be assembled while the line was being cleared. The problem was the whole section had to be removed from the line before it could be disconnected. The result being the crap was flying everywhere and we had to call a professional cleaning service to clean it up. The invoice stated there was a 30 day guarantee. When the line backed up a week later, I called at 6pm and was told he would come tomorrow. Apparently sewage filling the 1st floor tub wasn't an emergency. When I said my tenants couldn't go all night and the next morning without being able to flush their toilets or take a shower he told me to "tell your tenants to stop plugging the line and show some respect. And if I have to come out again I'm going to charge you." I called Roto-Rooter, who came out that night and cleared the line (without making a mess) and the line has been fine for 3+ weeks now. I can only assume the line wasn't fully cleared to begin with. Don't call them for a sewer backup! read more
