Attended as part of Indy's book crawl since I happened to be in the area for another event and I love this bookstore and selection! My only critique is that it's not closer to me. Found some gems in the $5 rack and also enjoyed browsing through the rest of the inventory. Was definitely a bit crowded (likely due to the book crawl) but I imagine most items MacArthur Books feels quite cozy! Would definitely swing by if/when I'm back in the area again. Love local/independent bookstores and supporting them! read more

I tend to get my books from the local library vs. buying them, but I love nothing more than browsing a bookstore - especially a LOCAL bookstore. Thrilled to see MacArthur books open in the Village of West Clay! It's a small but mighty shop, packed with best sellers, all the typical genres/sections you'd find in a larger bookstore, and an adorable children's room/section. Plus, they have great gifts for book lovers - think coffee mugs, bookmarks, stickers, etc. read more

There's nothing I love more than a bookstore. This one opened around my birthday and my family's gift to me was that I could choose a book here... truly the best gift. I spent an hour pouring over book covers, reading the back covers, looking them up on GoodReads and talking to the owner. They have an awesome selection and I think I ended up getting more like five books - haha. Can't resist! They're located in The Village of West Clay and have easy, free parking spots out front. The shopkeeper is often curled up on a chair reading herself and knows a lot about the books in the shop. They support a lot of local events and have many flyers up in their windows. Gosh! I stumbled upon the cutest book store while walking around the neighborhood! Such a lovely store with customized notes for each of the top few books. I just went in to check the store out and I was amazed at the variety of options the store had for bibliophiles. Reading pins, bookmarks, journals, Biblo tracking books you name it - everything under one roof! I ended up not purchasing anything cause I wanted to spend more time and scour end to end so I will be going back this week and update pictures, added details. Must visit - a bibliophiles haven!!! read more

I love MacArthur books! They have the best selection and the staff will order you in a specific book if you request it. You will pay slightly more than if you bought online, but the experience and the curation of their products is worth supporting local. read more

Such a sweet bookstore!! So cozy and adorable. Loved the book-themed gift options too. And they do gift wrapping! Found several gift options on my first visit and went to go back this week but they were randomly closed even though the neon window sign said "open" and I had checked their hours online but I went on their Instagram and apparently they were out of the office for a couple days for some reason. But anyway, can't wait to go back. Worth going out of the way to visit because of the awesome selection. read more

This place is adorable! I love a good indie bookshop, and the selection here is phenomenal. There is a sticker corner, book-themed gifts, and even a fun local author section. I am a sucker for easily-navigable shelves, and this place is clearly marked. The owner is so kind, and has great book recommendations as well. I found a book I had been eyeing for a while, plus a cute TBR journal to--hopefully--organize my TBR list in a more manageable way! read more

I've long been a fan of the Half Price Books chain, a chain started in Dallas in 1972. You could…read morepretty much say I've grown up with Half Price Books. I'm pretty stunned that I've never reviewed this location, though I don't frequent it nearly as much since I moved into Lawrence Township. I grew up in Pike Township and this really was my location for many years. In my opinion, it's one of the most accessible of the Indy HPB locations and I've always been pleased with my experiences here. I was in this area checking out His Place Eatery and nostalgia demanded I return for a visit to this HPB. This location has two entrances. Both sides offer accessible parking, though the side facing West 86th Street is definitely more accessible. One side has a double glass doorway, the other has a single glass door. Both sides offer curb cuts, though the side facing West 86th Street has a much easier grade. For those familiar with HPB, there's the consistency you can expect - reasonably priced books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and even some VHS. Books are incredibly well organized and there's always a nicely done clearance section. They also have novelty stuff - like t-shirts, games, etc. The employees here are always friendly - I've had multiple friends work for HPB over the years and they always praise the chain. Most, of course, end up leaving for financial reasons, however, they all remember HPB with a sense of nostalgia. On this visit, I noticed there was a local author doing a book signing. Since I nearly always support local authors, I bought his book. The aisles are always in good shape here. The store is clean. There's a public bathroom that's pretty accessible. Employees are always willing to help. And yes, you can still sell them your used books/CDs/movies. And yes, you still won't get much. I've been to just about every HPB location in Central Indiana. This one has a special place in my heart as I really kind of grew up with it. I guess you could say it's my favorite HPB in Indy. This HPB is well organized, has a wonderful selection, offers friendly and helpful service, and is likely the most accessible HPB in the society. All in all, it's a winner and it sure was nice to get back for a visit.

I showed up today after a very long drive already in a mediocre mood. I went up to the front desk to ask about a Facebook Marketplace agreement I had made for a sofa set and the price, only to find out there had been some miscommunication. At first I honestly thought I might have been scammed, which instantly put me in a terrible mood. I definitely huffed around and complained about how far I had driven while trying to sort it out. Long story short...the Facebook Marketplace dealer was not a scam at all. We had simply misunderstood which pieces we were talking about. Fast forward to the end of the visit: three employees (two gentlemen and a woman / I'm sad I didn't get their names) helped me load everything and went the extra mile in every way. They were incredibly kind to me... even after my less-than-great attitude earlier. I tipped them and apologized for being grumpy, but I have to say I left there genuinely believing in people again. They handled the situation with so much patience and kindness. Very cool experience. I'll absolutely be back (with a better attitude!) and I'll be paying that kindness forward. Thank you to those three employees....even helped load my trailer. Seriously nice. Like....extra! Thank yoU!
