We haven't been here in two years so we thought we'd give it another try. It was Saturday night. Our reservation was at 6:15 and we seated on time outside per our request. The good... The calamari and mushroom soup appetizers were great as always, I ordered the Macaluso martini which was great again, my husband had a good old-fashioned, except they used the bright red cheap maraschino cherries instead of the higher end dark red ones that you would expect from a higher end restaurant. The not so good... Every dish like Veal Parmesan had veal crossed out on the menu and only left a choice of chicken. We typically prefer veal when we're out because we cook chicken at home all the time. So that limited, especially what my husband wanted. Then he asked for the breaded pork and was told they were out of that too. Then he ordered the House special stuffed chicken, which the chicken itself was very tasty but the linguine that came with it was so overcooked it was mushy. Pretty disappointing for an Italian restaurant. I ordered the chicken Macaluso and then was told that they were out of Angel hair pasta. I asked to have pappadele instead of linguine or rigatoni, cause I don't like either of those. They were able to give me the papadele which was cooked well. My food was good, but it was unusual. It came a large flat-ish bowl and it was submerged in a broth that didn't taste like a sauce that would go with pasta. It was very thin. Also, what is a little strange is we each got the house salad and only had three options of salad dressing and none of the options were Italian dressing in an Italian. The bread was very good however it was cold and it would've been better if it had been warm. When we were getting ready to leave, my husband asked if he could have a fresh serving of linguine that was not mushy for his leftovers. They were accommodating and brought us all our food to go. When we got home, he tried the pasta and it was yet again overcooked and mushy. Not sure how an Italian restaurant can get pasta wrong twice. Disappointing to have so many things not be available on the menu. Our waitress was nice and looked so embarrassed when she had to tell us for a fourth time that something was not available. Very strange to have a seating at 6:15 on a Saturday and to be out 4 to 5 different things. Going forward I think we will eat at the bar and just get appetizers and drinks cause that was the best part of the meal. read more

The service was truly amazing, I had the kindest server, who was quick with water refills and well versed with the menu and specials. I love the more elevated vibe of the restaurant, which is rare for this area. We enjoyed the California blend red wine, Aperol spritz, and house salads, all great. The bread basket was a nice touch too. For dinner, I ordered the Shrimp Tatianna Pappardelle (pictured in a to go container), which I found upsettingly bland for a Cajun sauce. That said, my friend got the wild mushroom ravioli Macaluso and said it was really good. We ended with a fantastic desert, the peanut butter pie and chocolate love cake (both pictured). read more

Went to dinner here last night and although the food was good they don't give you what they show on the menu! I ordered lamb chops as a special and was quoted $34. When I got the bill they charged $45! My wife ordered a special salad with shrimp-it came with one (1) shrimp for which we were charged $6! It was outrageous to be taken advantage of like that! The food and service here are absolutely amazing. And the waitresses are super fun, friendly and fast, so is the kitchen staff. Free parking on the side. They have their own parking lot, you can eat outdoors on weekends not through the winter months, though. Due to everybody's circumstance, it seems the restaurant had to pivot to an outdoor space; but it's a great space! The incredibly sweet lady asked if we had reservations, we said no; she said that's ok, I'll get you in! We spoke to her a couple times that night, what a nice lady. Anyways, our server Sheri (hope I spelled it right) came over and another incredibly nice person. You can tell a lot about how a restaurant is run by the demeanor of the staff and everybody is aces. we had: calamari appetizer, ahi tuna appetizer, artichoke and crab special and meatball and scamutz (look it up). Tonight our server was Jenn, and she was as absolutely fabulous. Perfectly on point with our drink orders, and suggestions from this evening's specials. Our appetizer was Ahi Tuna, with Ginger, Wasabi, and a Cajun Butter. Preparation and presentation were on the mark!! Entrees were delicious and served in a timely fashion. We dined in the outdoor area, which was perfectly heated, with some nice tunes, making the atmosphere very relaxing. Amazing food... i had the chefs seasonal special of Blue cheese stuffed fresh figs wrapped in Prosciutto Panko stuffed chicken ( sausage spinach). The other people in my party had Lemon artichoke chicken over cappillini Lobster special and fresh catch of the day special. Our view out of room 17 was breath taking... It was clean- 2 double beds with bathroom and closet.... We had a reservation for Mother's Day. It is very nice inside. Service was very slow, we were there for over 2 hours even though it wasn't busy when we first arrived. The food was just okay for the price. We got the Arancini, Chicken Macaluso, Eggplant Stack, Seafood Pasta, and Salmon. The Arancini and eggplant were cold in the center, the eggplant had way too much spinach in my opinion, and the chicken had a LOT of butter or oil. read more

Went for Mothers Day. We were seated in the back by 2 large tables filled with large families with children. So noisy we could not hear our party of 4 talk. I asked to be moved. As there were plenty of smaller tables closer to the entrance. The Waitress-an older women with black hair refused. She said she needed the other tables. We put up with the noise- the people quieted down when they got their food. I have not been hear since the new owners took over. I enjoyed the Strawberry salad very large. I wanted eggplant Parmasian without angel hair but ravioli which I did get- It was good but I paid extra to have to have the Ravioli. My husband got salmon and a small,small side. It was actually sad. Very disappointed. He actually ate some of my Ravioli it was so skimpy. Daughter and friend got chicken and seemed to be happy but the portions were small. We did get desert, I took Chocolate cake- It was terrible- It tasted like someone make it homemade and used tasteless icing. I was expected a deep rich chocolate cake- not good. The Bread I know is from Padora's Italian Bakery in Tamaqua. It was okay but I would have preferred warm bread and a larger amount. I believe Macaluso's the original owners gave a small loaf that was warm. Our bill was $250 for 4 people. It is very expensive for the area. We will not go back as I was turned off by not being able to move my seat. When we left there were plenty of seats open in the front so we could have been moved. This was another local restaurant suggested by the friendly staff at the information center in Jim Thorpe. We went for dinner on our recent trip. The restaurant was quiet with low light...very relaxing...my husband loves long hot peppers and ordered those as an appetizer. The grilled peppers came with small chunks of fresh parmesan and two pieces of grilled italian bread. He said they were fabulous! We each had a chicken dish; I had the Chicken Macaluso and he had the grilled Chicken Milano. There were two options for each entree, a small plate and the regular size plate. We ordered small plates which offered a generous helping of each dish; so generous that we had leftovers for dinner the next night! Shout out to Jen! Preface this by saying I have eaten at Macaluso's (the original Macaluso's) so many times I lost count, eat in and take out, consistently good. It is Macaluso's "by name only now". The food and service has fallen off to a level that it's hard to believe. I hesitate including service in this as there are many good, hard working people there, doing their best to make the experience pleasurable. I had recently eaten there twice in one week, Mothers Day (my Moms choice) and the following Friday. The meal on Mother's Day was "meh' but my mother was happy and that's all that mattered. Friday was shameful. I ordered 3 items to go, only 2 came in the bag, which I realized after I drove 15 minutes home. What I did get was pathetic. The salad was literally nothing but lettuce. It is obvious that the current ownership is content with being a tourist (trap)restaurant, once and done. We came to Jim Thorpe having already heard about this restaurant and knew it was a must try. Our experience though turned out poorly by many factors: 1. Appetizer was served with such delay. They then said their fryer had shut off and that they will be serving us shortly. 2.as an apology, only my wife was asked if she wanted a drink and I was completely ignored - not even looked at. 3. The entree - spaghetti and meatballs was served with the marinara sauce tasting like it's out of a can and not homemade. 4. Billing - again - had the waitress ignoring me to a very noticing extent. The order was wrong, ordered penne ala vodka got rigatoni with sauce, ordered lemon chicken, got chicken Macaluso-the chicken looked like it was the processed stuff from a bag. I went to this place for dinner and was going to order a Smashburger I asked how I should have it done if I didn't want any pink the bartender said a medium well so I said OK I asked for ketchup and mustard they brought out Dijon mustard I said do you have any yellow mustard they said no I said do you have any pickles they said no so finally the burger out and it's pink inside and I said I don't really want that I ordered was no pink inside just give me spaghetti and meatballs so then the The owner comes marching out and starts arguing with me about the fact that the burger was cooked medium well so finally I say just give me the bill and the bartender gives me the bill and wraps of the burger for me to take home that was cooked how I didn't want it to be cooked she said I can't take it off unless she authorizes it so she goes back and talk to the owner who is on says no absolutely not and makes the bartender pay for the burger if I want it off of there. I then said do whatever you have to do this isn't how I ordered it and I'm not paying for it and I'm going to leave a negative review and they said no don't do that but still refused to take it off the service was terrible the owner was argumentative and then came out and argued with me again in front of customers I do not recommend this place it's very unprofessional Additionally I should add they clearly don't know what a Smashburger is because this was a normal burger patty so quite clearly they don't know what they're doing. read more

This place was terrific! I ordered their coconut white russian and it was delicious. I do not think much alcohol was in it so it was a bit high priced but absolutely delicious. My husband's drink was also made perfectly, he had a whiskey and ginger ale. I ordered the mushroom soup which was to die for and for my main dish I got the special which was crab au gratin... This is for the hotel portion, as it doesnt have its own. Booked a double room- 2 beds. We were given 2nd floor room 19. A very oddly laid out room- with ONE full sized bed. Bathroom is as soon as you open outside door. Right in the middle of room. Bedroom where full sized bed is located is super super tiny. Literally about a foot space on each side of the bed. Then theres a little side room with just a refrigerator on the floor. Nothing else. Rooms are kind of damp and musty with painted wood panel walls reminiscent of old shore houses. Right outside the bedroom window was a giant oil tank (built into hill so grass right out the bedroom, even thoigh its second floor) Definitely very old and can use some serious updating. Looks like the put all their money and time into the restaurant and none into the hotel. Air conditioning unit didnt work and kept turning on and off all night...not too great for late june. Location to what i needed was pretty good. That was the redeeming factor. read more

The worst ever since it was sold. Had reservations, waited 20 minutes and had to ask for a server. Then waited an hour for salad which we never got . Had to actually go to the bar for drinks ourselves. We were disgusted and upon leaving we were told not to worry about our bar tab.
