Wild how bad customer service has gotten. I called this so-called Mac-certified store to get a simple estimate. They refused to give one unless I paid a $125 deposit. Fine. I catch the bus in the rain, all the way from the countryside. I get there and politely ask: Can I keep my card on file to manually pay once you have the final quote? So I don't have to bus it all the way back down again. Her response? "If you don't want to do it here, you don't have to." Deadass. That was her tone--sharp, dismissive, and rude. I explained I run a business. I know how merchant payments work. There's literally a digital portal to manually input a card. You can take a payment over the phone. Again: "If you don't want to do it here, you don't have to." At that point, I just asked for a ballpark estimate. Not a quote. Just a range. Because I'm not about to pay $125 and get slapped with an $800 repair bill. I say, "If it's $800, I'll just buy a new laptop. Apple Store only charges $250 for the same thing." She snaps at me: "I'm talking. Don't interrupt me. Let me finish." ...Excuse me? First of all, I'm the customer. Second, I'm not being rude--I'm asking questions so I don't get ripped off. And her tone? Defensive, condescending, and way out of line. So I say: "This is really bad service. I'm just trying to ask questions and you're being rude." She starts shaking. Literally crying. Then runs to the phone like she's in a Lifetime movie and says, "I'm calling the cops." Calling the cops because someone asked to speak to a manager? That's the new standard now? What kind of operation is this? Why do you have emotionally unstable teenagers with no training or accountability in charge of customer service? Where is the management? This isn't just poor service. I was in need for an apple charger while in Hilo, and being that this city is a rather small town, it was going to be challenging to find an Apple Store. Thanks to my handy dandy Yelp app, I was able to find this store. They are a third party mac store and they sell a ton of Apple products. I simply needed a usb apple phone charger to pair with my rental. The gentleman there was kind enough to help me out and show me some different options as well. This is a smaller store, so the prices might be a little more elevated than what you're used to, but also, not surprised cause we're in Hawaii and everything seems to be a little more expensive. This is a crooked place.!!! Came in to replace one lens cover for iPhone 12 Pro Max camera. The camera was fine just the top camera lens was cracked. The man quoted me $150 to fix over the phone. When I went in he said it would cost $650! When I said can I just switch phones with my wife he said he would charge $80 for that. I walked across the parking lot to the AT&T store and they even agreed that it was a rip off! They gave me a card for someone else to fix the lens and it will cost $100. To exchange phones it will cost nothing. They tried to rip me off for a total of $730! Do not go here. Even the other stores around agree. Took my iPhone to Mac made easy at the recommendation of the AT &T store to have my battery replaced. The person at the counter was polite and nice. They told me it would cost $189 and three hours of time to replace my battery. They asked for a $65 deposit which I paid. When I returned after three hours, they told me that they've done diagnostics on my phone and something additional because there was an issue with something for facial recognition with an additional cost of $250. I told him no my camera/facial recognition was working fine and I wasn't going to do that. They said we can still replace your battery but it'll require us to keep your phone for another three hours. I did not have time that day for to wait an additional three hours. I declined and they kept my $65 deposit (the non refundable diagnostics fee). Last week, while in Las Vegas, I took my phone to the Apple Store. The cost of a new battery was $90 plus tax. There was no problem with my facial recognition or any other diagnostic issues and they replaced my battery in an hour and a half and sent me on way. I feel completely ripped off of my deposit by Mac made easy. read more

I called to find out about a battery for my iPhone. The man that answered was dry and unprofessional. I asked if they carried the battery for my older iPhone. Yes, he answered. I have been having back spasms and I could not get a ride until the following day. He told me it might be sold (first come first serve). I asked if I could buy it know over the phone. He stated, it might not be the correct battery for my phone. No, we don't let customers buy products over the phone. All sounds well and good. The man had no solutions. I asked about the Aloha Spirit and he told me I had none. I believe you shouldn't put a customer in a spot without a solution. Apple stands for solutions. On a good note. I used to go to Tropic Mac but I believe the business is no longer there and so it was nice to know that there is a place in Hilo that I can go to. Mac Made Easy; sounds like the name of a great mac & cheese recipe, is actually a nice little shop for you to bring your broken computers. Well, not only computers. Mac Made Easy services all manner of Apple devices. MacBooks, iMacs, iPads, iPhones, maybe even an eMac (you never know)! Shoot, they can even get you hooked up with a Verizon deal if you'd like. In my experience, the folks over at Mac Made Easy have always been friendly and do their best to help you out. They work directly with Apple, so you can rest assured that your device will be properly handled. Through my line of work, I've personally used their services many times, and though I may not like the answer when I send in a broken or malfunctioning device, I always trust that I'm not being led astray. Mac Made Easy does charge a fee to examine a device, depending on how deep an inspection is necessary, but that's part of what makes them reliable (in my opinion). They're getting theirs either way, so the incentive to get more money out of you is at least diminished. In short, they certainly aren't afraid to charge for their services, and it can be pricey at times. Such is the nature of owning an Apple device, though. Proprietary parts, software, accessories--it is what it is most of the time. I do think it's worth it to bring your device in if you're sure there's something wrong with it (you've exhausted all troubleshooting routes of your own), simply for the fact that you know it will get handled the right way if you do. read more

Way over-priced for a Seagate 2TB Hard Drive - $159.00. My wife purchased this HD from Mac Made Easy in Hilo and then discovered it was marked up $100 from the average retail price. Their store in Kailua is even cheaper at $149.00 Amazon: $59 Target (Hilo): $61 Office Max (Hilo) $69 After confronting the sales rep about the discrepancy in price from other local retailers, the response was, "We don't set the prices, and can't price match." I guess that even applies to their store on the other side of the island. This business has been around for 30 years. It pays to shop around because $100 over the average local retail price is outrageous. The drive's suggested retail is $99. I contacted the owner, and am waiting for a response. read more

I came here with a disabled iPhone. They told me it was going to be $65 for a mandatory check-in Diagnosis fee (Non-refundable). which I was aware of and paid for. However, they could not fix the issue therefore telling me to send it to their tech. and the $65 would cover the cost. To top it off they got my information wrong, which I corrected them and due to false information, they could not contact me, then they held my iPhone for a week leaving me to go there in person. and when I arrived, they wanted an additional $450 for tech to fix it. I'm not only upset about that, but I also went to a different repair store, and they took 1 hour to fix the problem and said whoever checked it last. DIDNT EVEN OPEN IT. I was visiting Hawaii on vacation and my iPhone 11 froze up. I spent a couple of hours with Apple Support on another phone. They eventually told me I would need a reset, and made an appointment for me with Mac Made Easy in Hilo. Lee was very friendly and helpful (he knew I was a tourist and probably wouldn't be returning). He determined that I wouldn't need a reset, and returned the working phone to me in just a few minutes. TERRIBLE I brought in my iPad Pro 12.6 (loaded, modem, 256G) to have the charging jack replaced. It was completely functional (except for the intermittent jack) when I brought it in. Out of warranty, but in perfect order. 10 days later I get it back, jack is fixed but the touch screen is dead. Zero touch, useless. Obviously, I complained. Response: "That sometimes happens, that's why we ask you to sign the release" when I brought it in. So they break it, but I eat it. OK, I did sign the boiler plate release (had to, or they wouldn't touch it), but maybe they will accept mine as trade-in for a new one. Nope, "It won't pass the functional test." Catch 22! And it wIll take 6-8 weeks to get a replacement from them. Screw that, I ordered direct from Apple.com, delivered in 5 days. So my simple charging jack repair cost over $1500. Brought in my barely-under-warranty Apple Studio Display for repair. Seth and the team at MME had a bear of time negotiating with Apple to diagnose the unit, and after weeks it was ultimately replaced. I can't say enough good things about Seth and the MME team. I was referred to this location by the Apple support team to get my SSD Drive replaced seems easy and to the point, however, they charge $95 to do a diagnostic just to tell me that I needed to get my SSD drive replaced the main reason I came to this store then proceeded to tell me the cost of a new 256 GB SSD was $560. Seriously though, the front casher is zero help doesn't seem to have any information and needs to consult with the technician on basic information. I went in to replace my iPhone screen and he told me that the part would take four days to even get. It's an iPhone 13 I mean come on, you don't have the part to fix the phone and most people can't go a week without their phone I asked him for directions because obviously I didn't have GPS and he said why would I give you directions to my competition? ***BEWARE**** This company are scammers and did fraudulent work for us. We took our computer to them and they charged $95 for "check in" and diagnosis. They told my wife (local BI ) that it needed a new logic board for $600. We decided the computer wasn't worth fixing for that. Months later we took it to 808 Computer just to get a last minute second opinion before we threw out our computer and went to go buy a new one. Our logic board was fine! It was just a battery issue. Cost us $200 and the "check in" was FREE. We were so happy. But, I was a little upset because Henry at Mac Made Easy either LIED to us or made a mistake. I explained this to them and they gave me some run around bs answer, and in the end said the check in/diagnostic fee is "non-refundable." Sure, I understand the check in and diagnosis fee is non refundable if you do the service correctly!!! But you can't offer a service, charge for it and do it wrongly and charge for it. That is illegal. That is called FRAUD Henry. I have all the receipts and work notes from both stores. Anyone who needs proof I'm more than willing to share. Just message me. Henry, No matter what you respond to this, you owe us a refund and our family an apology an you know it. Greed will be what takes this company down. Folks, just look below at the other comments. Recently took my phone for a known iPhone X issue (screen response) that should be covered under warranty. Was told they couldn't do the work because the water indicator was tripped on this "water resistant" phone and Apple won't cover it under warranty. Instead of paying $300-700 to fix/ replace, we chose to not fix it and get it back. When I got the phone back their was more damage to the screen (2 bright permanent lines) then when I gave it to them to fix. We ordered a new iPhone from Apple through the att next plan but now we can't return the other iPhone because it won't even turn on! What did these people do to this phone?
