I went to Mac again this week to get more things for the 30% off sale. I went earlier this week around 7 and got the best customer service experience from Chantelle. I'm not sure if that was her name, that's what it says on my receipt. She was the only one there at the time so I think that was her name. She was very warm and connective and had an extremely positive vibe that made you feel very comfortable. She helped me pick out brushes and a bronzer, and was patient and helpful. If time going to this MAC location and will be my last. Have a promotion and don't want to honor it. One minute you're sold out of the item so I leave and then I call the location before driving off and all of a sudden they have it available. I go back into the store then I'm told the promo is only for people that came over the weekend and have a scratcher. Should have told me that the first time I was in the store but I didn't want to argue or anything so I just left. MAC in general also needs to do better with their promos. Say every location is doing the promo different or something so people don't have to waste their time. read more

The associate that helped me gave such mean and belittling energy. I had an amazing experience yesterday at the MAC Valley Fair location! Chanel and Kaylee helped me before my two photo shoots I had scheduled that day, and they were both very friendly and very knowledgeable in regard to what look I was going for. I showed Kaylee a dramatic cranberry colored Smokey eye look and she was able to recreate it perfectly. I will definitely be coming back to this location again for their great artistry. read more

The store itself is in a prime location. A lot of the makeup samples are blown out which is to be expected, I would prefer checking on the samples prior to opening to ensure there is no mess all over the samples. This review is more related to customer service. My daughter is in the midst of looking for her first job and decided to inquire about employment at this location. I was floating around shopping while this was happening but was within earshot. She went up to a very nice looking tall employee who seemed helpful off the bat but we learned shortly after that wasn't the case. She asked if this store was hiring, pretty simple question especially for a young girl who is just learning the job market. Normally someone would say yes or no and keep it at that, or let her know how old she needs to be to work at this store, etc. Instead, and this is where she lost me, she gave my daughter the up and down and said "Oh YOU'RE asking? Oh, well, you've got to wow me, you've got to show me your makeup skills, you've got to show me why you want to work here! You don't have retail experience? You might want to try something smaller or easier like Macy's." Sorry, this isn't America's Next Top Model. You work at MAC in the mall. Please just answer the questions that people ask and do it with good customer service in mind. Those are the kind of comments that tear young girls down. Dear MAC Professional, I just left the Valley Fair location and the team of four employees were far from personable, helpful, or even shining as aspiring make-up artists. I'm literally stunned at how poorly I was treated as a customer and the disgusting, snarly attitude I received from the girl standing at the register at 5:25pm, cleaning her brushes. All I wanted was advice on choosing a lipstick color. The first girl ( who I had to call for help from) pulled the three colors I wanted to try along with three sample wands. Then she walked away to lean her shoulders down up at the register area. Then a guy with long hair comes out , walks thru the floor dances, turns right back around to the register to hang out before the two just walked to the back. The store was not busy at this time. I called out to the staff at the front to ask if someone could give me their opinion on the three "I'd" put on my lips. Then the girl ( who's cleaning her brushes) looks at me like she's pissed off. I then asked is there anyone on the floor and she replied: "yes". The girl with the purple hair was helping someone else. Once that employee finished she just walked in the back. I made my own color choice , went to the counter, then the cashier-mean girl walked around and got the color I'd chosen. Why didn't she ask a co-worker to come out and give some assistance. I will never shop at that location again. This was so disappointing and appalled me. I've been shopping with MAC for nearly 30 yrs and use to feel like it was such an awesome experience to go to the pro store on Union st, in SF. I just had to let you know. This was one of the most unpleasant shopping experiences that I have ever experienced. I wish I had used my Apple Watch to measure the decibels because the music was literally BLARING at night club levels. Imagine trying to swatch colors, compare formulas with, I kid you not, lil john screaming about another round of shots. I took my mom with me to do some holiday makeup shopping and I was so embarrassed to make both her and I have to endure this auditory assault. We were yelling to communicate with each other right next to one another. I can't imagine someone with sensory issues would ever be able to shop here. My mom even mentioned the music being too loud to an associate and she just smiled and said "oh yeah, we like to blast it on the weekend!" I had an actual headache after leaving the store. Oh and the associates were no where to be found, never greeted us and didn't offer to help us, we had to find them to ask for help. We were the only customers there when we arrived and there were no more than 2 other parties there during our shop. If you want to shop for MAC at the mall I would direct you to the Nordstrom or Macy's counters which were so much more comfortable & functional. read more

My first visit, not a great start. We were greeted with "Do you know what you want, we are closing in 5 minutes?". The tone was very unwelcoming and laden with frustration. Our answer was yes, and then one of the other store members was asked to close the doors before closing time; It felt like they were genuinely aggrieved that we were there. That was a large spill on the floor that was not indicated by a sign; water on a wet floor is very difficult to see. Full disclosure that I first stopped into Sephora and will make that my final trip in that store ever. One star. Wife loves their products so I got her a gift card for Christmas which we found out can't be used at the Mac store inside our "local" Macys. By local I mean it's 30 miles from us. We're in San Jose for the day, a 2 hour drive. They open at 11. It's 11:20 and they're still closed. Two employees went in at 10:55 and left. They finally came back with coffee and treats at 11:20. Looks like no one from the company cares about customer reviews, that's why they don't seem to have anyone paying attention to their reviews on here. Went in yesterday to try a few swatches before the Black Friday sale so I know what to get. I've never really shopped Mac before so it was my first time there. The girl there named Maxa reluctantly asked what I was looking for and I showed her a picture a two of the type of shadow look I was inspired by and she can help me find the right shades because I'm new to makeup. She just stood there and stared at me until I had to ask her if she can show me where the eye shadows were, she walked me over and then just said 'the eye shadows are all HERE.' as if I was intruding on her time and then walked off instead of helping any further though there weren't anyone else to help in the store at that time. Then after I swatched a bit, I needed makeup remover and saw some bottles on the table but none were makeup removers. She was standing behind the cashier counter at the time - again, there were no calls or people to tend to at the time (the other 2 people were also browsing like me - she also acted dismissive to one of them). So I asked her very politely if any of the bottles were makeup removers or if she could point me to where they are. She still just stood behind the counter and said "it's RIGHT there by the mascaras". MIND YOU, I've never stepped foot in this store before and the selection of mascaras they have is so small that it's easy to miss. I barely even had a chance to look as I tried walking over to where she mentioned and she HEAVILY SIGHED and SNAPPED at me! She's like "It's RIGHT THERE!" 2 seconds later "BY THE MASCARAS!" like I'm supposed to know the layout of their damn store. WTF? The table she was pointing to was hella long with a crap ton of stuff I've never been snapped at ever when shopping as a customer... I figured she was having a bad day so I was going to let it go or something but then 3 minutes later when another worker with a bight bun came in, maybe her manager or something came in to start work, she was like "OMG HIIIIII!!!" ... If she's THAT incapable of being at least cordial and give customers human to human level of respect, then she should leave her job in customer service. Girls at Aritzia are even nicer than her and Aritzia has a bad enough reputation - I've never been treated that way there at all so that's saying something. read more

I have become a fan of MAC recently and really like the quality of their cosmetics. I've gotten birthday gifts for people here, too. I usually am a little intimidated to go into places like this because I am not a makeup maven but they made me feel comfortable right away. They make helpful suggestions and don't rush you to make a decision. This is the second time I've been in this store. Jose helped me and he tested out the eye shadows for me to see and recommended a lip liner to match with the lipstick I bought a few weeks ago. If you have the choice of going to the counter at a department store versus the MAC store, choose the MAC store. They have more selection and you get better customer service. I love their staff! I never walked in here before until today. I am not a makeup type of girl and I admit, I look plain but spending hours just to pretty myself up and will need to revert back to plain when I get home is too much work BUT for some reason I walked in and Jesus helped me. The store was packed and I really had no clue what is what.. Jesus- he applied a water resistant liquid eyeliner on me and some lashes just for me to see and boy, w/in minutes, I looked a little more in-depth w/ my eyes and I like it because it was subtle. I want to have a makeover here.. The store- well lit, spacious, organized. The staff- friendly and suggestive (as they should be!). The price- kind of pricey but you get what you paid for! Haven't been here in months. AGAIN, the WORST customer service ever. I don't know who does the hiring for this place but the 3 girls working on Monday evening have little to zero customer service skills. After asking for help they were still useless, couldn't even walk around the counter. By the way I'm sure all the products are dirty since they dint even bother cleaning them before or after I was done trying to figure out my compact color by myself. No wonder this store is always empty. I just walked into MAC at Macys's, the girls are nice and professional. They helped me find what I was looking for. I moved to this location solely because my favorite make up artist moved here from the Oakridge location. If you ever get a chance, work with Andi. She's super full of pep, knowledgeable and a joy to work with. I buy whatever she recommends with confidence because she gives honest feedback on what really looks good and not, and works soooo efficiently. If I want a lipstick, she'll find me the perfect liner match. Even when it's busy, she handles herself with a lot of grace and checks in with me frequently - I love that she knows who she's working with and takes such good care of them! Overall, I love that this location is also well organized and always has their new releases. This place is always super busy and full of women wanting their makeup done. $50 bucks to have it done professionally, which they do a pretty good job. Sometimes it's hard to get an employee to help you since they are all so busy running around, more like you have to keep chasing them to get their attention. Um, if I have 12 empty MAC containers, that means I am a loyal die-hard MAC customer. You should definitely assist me instead of leaving me alone. Unbelievable. Like I said before, the MAC in Nordstrom is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, less crowded, with a friendlier and well-seasoned staff. Shady up selling tactics at this location. I called Sunday for a make-up consultation that day. I hadn't been by this store for a while, so was surprised to hear I could get in right away, but it would be a $50 flat fee with a free mascara. In the past, you booked (or just showed up if they had time), they did your make-up, and then you purchased items. Since I had a photo shoot I booked the apt, even though it would be $50. I figured I could get my false lash waterproof mascara that is normally $21, and then actual extra cost would be $29. Not bad. I got to the store a little early (Twelve minutes to be exact) and went to check in. Three workers in a rush asked if I had been helped yet, so that was good. Strangely, they all kept saying they would check me in, and no one actually did. 5 minutes later a guy checks me in and says, "Your artist is on his lunch, he'll be ready for you in 10 minutes" and then felt the need to add in a snarky tone,"When your appointment actually starts." Okay, thanks, dude. (Throughout this time, workers are chatting and running around chaotically, but have time to stop and cheer for friends coming into the store, and stop and chat with them.) I went to get a tea since I had checked in, and came back right at my appointment time. No one acknowledged me for another five minutes. Then someone said they would be right with me. Five minutes later, and still nothing, but people kept walking up to me and saying my artist would be right with me and he was almost ready. Someone mentioned they were understaffed. Okay, I get that, no big deal. Around 15 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start, someone leads me into a room (a term I use loosely since it was basically a cove with a beaded curtain in a hallway of the store). A few minutes later a women comes in and introduces herself as my artist. Okay, that's fine, but they had told me it was a man I was waiting on, does this mean he just never showed up? She apologizes for the rush, and I replied that I knew they were under staffed to which she replies, "No, we're not understaffed, it's just a busy day." Ooookay? Mixed messages from staff much? I should have worried at this point... So I mention that I haven't been in for a while and it used to be a free appointment with a purchase, to which she replied, "Oh yeah, you can do that, but it happens on the floor and your artist has to help other people while you are getting helped." Umm, that would have been fine for what I wanted. So, I'm paying for a service I could have gotten for free, but that they didn't mention existed over the phone? Ugh. Oh well, I figured I'd make the most of it and asked if false lashes were included to which she replied, "We can definitely do that" and went to get lashes. What she failed to mention was that you pay for the lashes separately. She also didn't mention that since she was doing my eye lashes a certain way (which she suggested) that it was two sets of eyelashes, so an extra $32! This I did not find out until I was being rung up and it was too late to decline the lashes on my face! Double information fail from this store! During my apt. my artist was good about asking how I wanted my eyes. It turned out nice, but my face make up was too dark. At this point, I'm running late, so I let it go. Lashes and liner go on (little did I know, for an extra $32) and she asked how I wanted my lips. I was a little surprised that she kept asking my color preference for every shadow and lip color, almost like she wasn't sure how to achieve the look. She was really nice though, so it didn't bother me. It seemed like she just wanted to make sure I got what I wanted, and I'm cool with that. Then things got clown like. All of the sudden, as my face looks 99% done, without asking what I wanted, she colors-in (read as: colors on, around, and near) my eyebrows in a shadow that is 5x darker than my hair or eyebrows. Close to black. Giant. Uneven. On my natural eyebrow but wider on one side and no where near the natural shape on the other. I should have said something, but it was 45 minutes in, and I didn't have time to have them fixed, so I figured I could fix it at home. She asked if I wanted to purchase anything and what mascara I wanted, so I let her know what I wanted. I met her at the register, and was surprised by the $32 lashes and that they "couldn't find" the mascara I asked for, so gave me a different (cheaper $16) one. The chaos was still going, with the people behind the register helping me and her also talking to other people. I didn't even want to deal with it at this point, so I paid and left. I ended up having to redo the eyebrows, use a lighter powder and highlighter, and blend my make up before photos. Make-up alone cost $82, and needed to be fixed. For that I could have gone to the salon and had spa perks. Overall, my artist was really nice: I'd give her 2 stars. The experience as a whole was awful. Never again, Mac VF read more

I made my first MAC purchase ever this past weekend. Yes, I've always been against MAC products just for the sheer fact that their face makeup line is NOT friendly for acne-prone skin clients, like myself. But lately, after watching so many YouTube Beauty Guru Tutorials, I decided to swing by and test out some of their non-face makeup products to purchase for my fitness competition coming up very soon. I wasn't greeted by anyone and pretty much walked up to a very pretty MAC employee and told her exactly what I was looking for. In my opinion, I honestly know more about makeup than any MAC or Sephora employee I've spoken to. Probably because I'm a hardcore researcher and I really enjoy learning and testing out new products quite often. I ended up purchasing a few eye shadows, one of the main shadows that I really wanted, apparently they didn't have in stock. Also got myself this gorgeous new skin finish bronze all over highlighter, lipstick and their super expensive lip glass. I'm actually going to be returning most of the shadows I purchased because the color pay-off isn't good enough for me (better off with Urban Decay or something at Sephora) and I might return the lipstick cuz it was a bit drying. This place gets super packed and there's just people running around everywhere. It's actually hard to look at the products they have on display due to the amount of people at the store. I dunno if I'll ever purchase anything else from MAC as of right now...but yeah, they really don't leave that great of an impression in my eyes. read more

I have always been afraid of MAC makeup. Something about the women who work there scares the hell out of me. Could it be the overly arched penciled in brows? Maybe it's the over highlighted brow bones? Crazy rainbow colored eyelids? Or the fact that their complexions appear to be made out of candle wax? I just had to get over my fear, so I decided to come in to the MAC store, rather than a free standing counter in a department store. I must say, that it was a lot of fun. They were pretty packed since it was New Year's Day, but everyone was in good spirits, and I liked the fact that I could just kind of snoop around and play with products without someone trying to hound me. I had researched many of the products on line, so I had an idea of what I was looking for (brow powder and concealer). After about 15 minutes, I was assisted by Tam, who helped me find a nicely colored gloss. He even took the time to apply some eye shadows to my lids, and talked to me about what he was doing, and which brushes he was using so I could do it myself later. The thing I liked the most about shopping at MAC was the fact that I felt no pressure to buy anything. Tam was very helpful, and he made me feel like I was number one when he was assisting me. I'm happy with the brow shadow and brushes that I purchased, and I can't wait to come back for some blush! read more

Don't go here for anything except maybe for the individual palettes that go into your compact (exclusive to the store)! Go to the MAC counter at Nordstrom instead. These people are rude and very unorganized! They are always so busy and they never know who to help next. I always end up waiting longer than I should. One time I asked a girl to get a certain product for me and she said that she would after she finished up with her customer. She goes to the back after she's done and then comes out with another worker to go to lunch. Now that's customer service for you. I don't think the workers really care because everyone uses MAC cosmetics. Do yourself a favor and just go to Nordstrom. While on vacation the week before my Valley Fair visit, I purchased a blush at a San Diego MAC store. I had been looking for this blush by name, went in and asked for it and then purchased what I assumed was it in San Diego. Assuming they had sold me the correct one, I threw the receipt away (I had paid cash). I realized after looking at it hours later that is was the wrong one. Uh oh, ok I'll try to take it back to Valley Fair store when I get home. I kept in the the box and left it completely untouched. 5 days later, the MAC store at Valley Fair refused to exchange it for me even though it was clearly brand new in the box (yes, I explained what happened). Let's be clear, it was NOT my fault that I got the wrong blush--just an honest mistake by their employee. They said absolutely not and referred me to their customer service line. I called customer service and it turns out the blush I was looking for was discontinued. They told me they could send a blush that was similar but I would not be able to return it. They would also send me a postage paid envelope to return the one sold to me in error. What choice did I have? I hated the color that they sold me, so ok fine. The blush I received in the mail was creme and my original was powder!! Um, that's not similar. Seriously??? OMG. And I can't return it and I'm sick of this battle. So, I'm done. MAC in Valley Fair should have exchanged my blush and not put me through this hassle. I hate the creme blush and get furious every time I look at it in my makeup bag. I was forced to have it and was plain and simply cheated out of money for something that was NOT MY FAULT. Thanks a lot for the terrible customer service, MAC. You deserve the one star and I know it's just blush, but enough already. From now on, the MAC counter at Nordstrom is where I get my stuff, if at all. read more

One thing I have noticed while waiting: if the people working here get an idea that you are not buying the product, but rather trying to get your makeup done for free... you won't receive the best service. MAC gets super busy at all times of the day (especially Friday nights) and they try their best to accommodate people while attending to their appointments. Linda is my favorite. She has helped my mom and I on concealer & eye make up. She showed my mom the application along with the tools needed to achieve the entire look. She knows all her product colors & names which is impressive... and one of the main reasons I choose to shop at this location over the MAC counters in department stores. read more

This place makes me feel really fugly when I walk in on an off day... The girls here are completely decked out. I had my makeup done by the wonderfully talented, Cristian and it was flawless! He took his time and made me look and feel absolutely gorgeous! The other gals were very helpful, particularly Lindsey. She helped me pick out some colors for eye shadows and let me know about Mac's new lip gloss lines. I stopped shopping at MAC for a while because I thought their products were too harsh. He got me samples as well. He also checked on me again while I was still shopping after he tested a product on me I had questions about. I took back an item to get a better coverage foundation, and BOTH foundations I wanted were sold out :( big time bummer. I walked out with cute samples and a new paint pot so its all good. Let me just say, I feel REALLY ugly when I walk in here. I always scan the room and the employees have these fake eyelashes on that look like they weigh their eyelids down. The men here are never straight., but they are still nice nonetheless. The prices are outrageous! $16 bucks for Viva La Glam lipgloss? You mean to tell me that you can buy an equivalent of a super good lunch with that money?! Maybe I should just stick with the generic drug store kinds .. Revlon, oh yeah! I usually buy my makeup from MAC because they have really nice brushes and different shades of eyeshadow to satisfy all of a girl's desires. They also have the best dry liquid liners! :) However, I've noticed that if you wear their foundations/powders for a long period of time, your face tends to get super shiney and looks like u can fry an egg on it. ;) haha! Remember to blot your face through out the day ladies! Also I agree with the previous poster, that whenever I get my makeup done up by one of the workers, I feel like a drag queen... maybe cause I'm not used to wearing so much outrageous makeup on a day to day basis. Pigments and eye shadows are the only reason to come...and this location isn't the best for it. Mac eye shadow and eye pigment is un presented. Now the downsides. Staff is OK. Some of them are helpful with a smile. Most of them spend a lot of time ignoring... Facial make up, foundation, powder and blush, makes me break out guaranteed. Don't come during the weekend...weekdays are packed enough. If you know what you want, hit up the mac counter somewhere else, take notes of which colors you like and order it online if you can wait. The customer service I received on 12/27/2023 was deplorable! I was sold one product but ended up not being the product in my bag. Due to not wanting to head to the mall because I was sick, I waited until after Christmas to return the item I was sold in error. I went to the cashier and said I needed to do a return. The male associate asked if I had a receip, to which I said yes. I gave him the product and the receipt. He never attempted to be socia or kind. He read the receipt and said Oh, you would have had to return this 5 days ago. we can't accept this return. I said I was given the wrong merchandise to which he said you had 30 days to return this, it says right here on the receipt. I said it is 5 days out, and I was sick. He said, "well that's no excuse...I mean sorry you were sick but if I made an exception for you I'd have to make an exception for everyone!" To which I replied, "Well you should make exception." He put my two products in his palms and presented them back to me with such a smirk! What an awful experience! read more

If you haven't had a chance to meet Jose, you must stroll in and see him! I came in today panicking for a video shoot I was called to last minute. Jose was happy to help me and THAT he did!
