Makeover experience at M·A·C The new MAC location inside the Galleria in Roseville has moved to the old Origins (skincare) store and I was invited by a fellow Yelper for a free special makeover event. I could also bring a couple of friends so I invited two of my co-workers to join me. Our instructions were to be there at 8:00a (2 hours before the mall opened at 10:00a) on Sunday. We've never had a makeover done before (at least for me) so this was all new to us. Ana, our professional M·A·C makeup artist showed us how to use and apply each of the beauty products we used. For me, personally, I was overwhelmed by the regimen routine and I couldn't remember the order of the application, some of them had techniques. Ahhh! I don't want to get up 2 hours early just to do my face. At the end of the session we sure felt pretty (at least temporarily) LoL! Thanks to Ana who gave us tips and showed us how to use the products that's best for our skin. Weak. Walked in there knowing what I was going to buy (even had the empty container in my back pocket). Walked straight up to the counter and was ignored by the associate closest to the checkout counter. Granted, she had one gal sitting in a chair and another waiting around for her but (like I read below), I don't mind waiting when I am at least acknowledged and possibly even told how long the wait would be and that is "IF" I were browsing the make up. Since I walked right up to the checkout stand I feel like they should have at least asked me if I was ready to make a purchase or at the very least acknowledged me. It's not MAC's fault so, I won't hate on MAC for this icy incident, I will just go to a department store to make my purchase. Seems like this store has had sketchy reviews since it opened (on Yelp and around town). I don't understand why the manager doesn't hire more staff? Especially on a weekend. read more

What girly girl doesn't LOVE this store? Everyone that works here is always dying to help (or at least it seems that way, and I love it!) I came in to browse at the latest beautiful palette of brown and neutral eye shadows and wound up buying a bunch more! They applied the color to my eyes so I could try it out before buying it. Finished me off with some mascara and eye liner. LOVE this palette! They also put a high light on my cheeks that I feel in love with. I value patience and guest service. I feel like anywhere you go, you should be treated like a valuable guest no matter who you are. I do the same at my job. Can't remember the ladies name that helped me but I really appreciated her! I've had issues trying to figure out my MAC membership info online. She tried numerous emails...some old ones, some new ones, some embarrassing ones lol. We just couldn't figure out what email I used. Well she explained that they went from an old system to a new one. Did a different search and was able to locate me!!! Yay! I was happy lol it's the little things. Anyways I always have a great experience at MAC I love their products and staff. Big purchase of the day was more water resistant foundation, amazing make up wipes, and a new brush for applying my foundation. The bad reviews on here are ridiculous. I came into the store and the entire staff greeted me after I was completely ignored at Sephora next door. I know nothing about makeup and the employees were patient with the series of questions I had. They helped me put on my fake eyelashes (for free with my purchase) and taught me how to apply a smoky eye using nude colors. My makeup artist (if that's what it's called) was Gina and she was so helpful. She did not apply the makeup dramatically, which helped ease my fear of looking like a clown. She used colors that complimented my tan complexion, and suggested items in my prices range (all without pressuring me to buy). The staff had fun while working, but they kept it professional at the same time. These girls know their stuff. I plan on going there for all of my cosmetic needs in the future. Had such a terrible experience at this store and being passed over even though an associate was already helping me she kept leaving to help other people and then ring them out when there were plenty of others to help them. This MAC is LIT. Just moved from LA literally yesterday, and I came here to bring back some make up for the back to MAC program. However, I ended up keeping all my products thanks to Kat. I appreciate the honesty with the artists because all my products were full. I just didn't know what to do with them! Kat suggested I sit down and we try all the products. Found a whole new use for my pro longwear liquid foundation (NC35), studio fix (NC35), two concealers (NC20, NW25), and Snob lipstick. I loved the result and my face looked flawless! Started with concealer for undereye, brushed the liquid foundation lightly, and finished off with light powder. Used the lighter concealer for underbrow and highlight! Thank you! It is interesting to read all the negative reviews on yelp about MAC. How hard is it to please women. I mean if you are getting a make over your complaining about them tending to others. When they are not helping your complaining that saying they are too busy or if they ask you too many times you say they are being pushy. I have been in here many times...some just browsing and others actually buying what I need. I have always been acknowledged with eye contact, hellos and can I help you. It is clear that when you need someone to help you have to ask also. How hard is it to just grab what you need it is on the shelf or in the drawers. I mean, how lazy are you. Do you stand at other stores and ask them to bring you a pair of jeans or a shirt from the table. I have never had to wait an unreasonable amount. Oviously you are at the mall because you have nothing better to do with your day and if are in a rush then thats your problem not theirs. I love MAC and their products. I appreciate the knowledge the artists have. The products are designed for art and theater make-up so when people complain about it being cakey it's like HELLO! It is made to be that way, if you want lighter stuff or your mom's make-up then head over to clinque or learn how to wear MAC!! It was my first time checking their new space out before they had that janky makeshift location in the middle of the mall. I went here on a Friday morning and it was a ghost town. No really .... there were no employees on the selling floor. They were in the back, possibly doing paperwork or unpacking merchandise. Lesson #1 in the retail world ... never leave your selling floor empty. You might lose a sale OR you might lose some merchandise to sticky fingers. So I walked around long enough for them to notice there was a client in the store. I was immediately greeted by one of the girls. I don't remember her name but she looked like a glam snow white, very fair skin and long wavy black hair. I was on the hunt for some nude lipstick and found her to be extremely helpful. She explained to me the differences between all the eight different types of lipstick finishes, I have learned I am a cream sheen girl. After numerous tests swatches on my hand, I picked my color. Everything else from there was easy because I already knew what I needed ... primer, a new kabuki brush, and a paint pot. It's funny how this place has mixed reviews. I seem to have better success at receiving customer service at the stand alone stores rather than the department stores. Every Nordstrom/Macy's MAC counter I've ever gone to from Santa Clara to Roseville has always been a struggle for me to get some service. Normally it's because the client to MUA ratio is too much for them to handle so I end up walking away ... do I really need to stand here for 15 minutes just to get my damn Viva Glam? Each time I've gone into a stand alone store I've always been treated great, especially at this Roseville location. read more

I went there to get my make up matched and it took the girl helping the make up artist 6 tries to finally get the type she was asking for. I guess they are really unorganized and untrained. I needed daytime makeup that wasn't cakey. By the time I was out it looked good but it was also dark outside. I bought the concealer, foundation and powder- $$$. When I ran out of my own makeup I opened the stuff I bought only to find all of them were totally different colors and the lighter ones they said were my color are orange on my pale skin. To sum it up they're unprofessional and unorganized and way too expensive for the crap they give you. I'll never go here again, so disappointing! read more

I love the products (who doesn't?) but the staff at this particular location are very hit-and-miss. More often, they're miss. Whenever I'm in the store I feel like I'm bothering them if I ask for help with anything, and profiling goes on at this location like you wouldn't believe. (Not racial profiling - profiling where you're judged by what you're wearing, what you look like, etc, and they make snap judgements about how much you're going to spend and therefore, how much they're going to help you.) I typically do not dress or appear in any way like a person who has a lot of money to spend, but believe me, if I'm in a MAC store I plan to do some damage. Even if I wasn't, blatantly treating people like they're inferior based on your perception of what they have in their bank account is cruel. And for the record, I've worked customer service before. I'm aware that sometimes things get busy, or sometimes people come in and it's obvious that they just want to mill around and look at things. I get it. But the customer service here is appalling even by my reasonable standards. More often than not, I've left this location planning to just order online instead, or go to the MAC counter at Macys. She's usually there during the week, but if you do go inside this location, ask for her. She's is seriously SUPER AWESOME! Her enthusiasm is infectious, she is very sweet and funny, and she really does take the time to help you out-from finding lipglasses that make your lips pop with glam, to eyeshadow colors that you never even fathomed to use. Though my wallet screams at me after every visit, I find myself using those products on a daily basis thanks to her, and since then I always go to her when I need a get a few things. So for all fellow MAC fans, either go to her if you live near Roseville, or hit up the MAC counter at Sunrise Mall (I did a separate review for them so go ahead and check that one out). Granted, I've learned from growing up as a private school kid that how you are dressed will help get you the positive attention from sales people. When I'd show up in my school uniform, sales people were all over me wanting to help me. Not that it's right, but in a way I get it. Which brings me to today. Sure I probably didn't look like I had money to spend. My hair was tied up, I was in jeans and I was carrying my backpack (I just came from school) and I couldn't leave my bag in my car since my netbook was in it. Anyway, I walk in and there were 2 people working there, both helping someone, all I got was a "how are you?" I didn't get, "I'm almost done here" or "someone will be right with you", after meandering for 5 minutes I left. No one said anything other than "how are you". I recently took a MAC makeup lesson and purchased nude eyeshadow but I wanted to find some "fun" colors to wear on the weekend. I'm not good at picking out colors that work well for me so I definitely needed the help of a professional. I walked in and Victoria was so kind and helpful. She took the time to show the colors that would work well with me and built a beautiful palette for me. My friend came in as well and wanted to try on lipstick, as she doesn't wear it often and doesn't know which color would look nice on her. Victoria helped her as well and picked out a great shade and lip liner. MAC has the nicest employees and they are very talented as well. No. Just no. I came in here today to try to find some heavy-duty concealer that would match my super fair skin. I walk in and a girl says hi to me. Pleasant enough right? Except she walked away right away to attend to the throngs of people sitting in the chairs waiting for makeup applications. Okay, I can deal with that for now. So I walk around to look for some concealer. I see none. Foundation, yes. Blush, yes. Eyeshadow, yes. Concealer, nope. It seemed like all of the above were to be used for makeup application anyway, rather than for retail. Confused, I try to find someone to help. Nobody pays attention because they're all running around between customers there for makeup application. I have no problem with having artists working on people. But I think that there should be one or two people who work the floor, and the rest can physically deal with the makeup. I didn't like the lack of customer service or the fact that nobody is designated to help the people who are there to buy products rather than try on a full face of makeup. I left and went to Macy's to browse their makeup counters. Never again, MAC store! read more

I absolutely love this location! I am pretty patient and understanding when it comes to this store and always go in when I'm not in a hurry. It can get very busy, and I've gone in when there's only one artist available to be out on the floor but I'll just hang out and gather together what I need to make their life easier. Anytime I've wanted any help with makeup tutorials or just to get my makeup done, I never just walk in, I always make an appointment. BONUS, you get to buy makeup and get your makeup done for free! Walking in can be tricky but just be prepared to stay for awhile, as it is a requirement for the artist to help other customers.
