I love MAC eyeshadows and over the past couple of years I've been learning how to do my eyeshadow using different techniques. Last year I had my first eye demo at the MAC counter in Macy's at Newpark Mall and it was a wonderful experience. The girl walked me step by step everything she was doing and how to properly apply the colors, she also wrote it all out on a form including all of the different brushes she used and where she applied certain colors. It was a HUGE help.
I stopped into this location one night before vday hoping I could get an eye demo and buy some new eye shadows. The girl wasn't too friendly and basically said "that's pretty much impossible, me and another girl are leaving soon and that only leaves 2 girls to work the counter". Ok I guess they didn't want my sale that bad... whatever. So I left disappointed.
Well my fiance knew I was disappointed that day and how much I love eye shadows and that I've been wanting to learn some new looks so he made an eye demo appointment for me as a birthday gift. When I went in and told one of the girls I had an eye demo appointment she said "we don't set appointments for eye demos". She ended up finding me on their appt. list and seated me in a chair and told me because I was a few minutes early my "artist" would be with me in a few. So the girl comes over, she didn't really introduce herself to me just said hi and asked how I wanted my eyes done. I explained the color/look I was going for and she went and gathered the colors and came back. She went right to work on my eyes but never once handed me a mirror or walked me through what she was doing nor was she very chatty. She asked a couple of times if we had plans for the night and I said not really. I'm not sure if she thought I just wanted my eyes done to go out or what, but I believe the definition of a "demo" is to show/explain to someone how to do something. She didn't use any primer other then a cream based eye shadow, did not use concealer to clean up the under eye area, and I didn't see the result until she was done. Even under their lighting I couldn't take in the full affect of what she had done to me. She asked me if I knew what I wanted to buy for $50 that night... ummm ok. I wanted a demo to show me how to use this color combo.... apparently it didn't come across that way. I told her I wanted the 3 colors and a new lip gloss.
Upon check out one of the other girls looked at me and whispered something to her, she kind of laughed, and said something back and I saw the girl mouth an "Ohhhh I'm sorry". So the girl who did my make up turns around and is still kind of smiling and attempts to flatter me with more compliments about how she thinks the colors look great on me. I felt really uncomfortable and just really wanted to get out of there. I flattered her back with a "thank you" and a smile and left.
Once I got a glimpse of myself in better light I realized the monstrosity she had created. I was so embarrassed I wanted to run out of the mall and wash it off ASAP. My fiance was trying on a new dress shirt and tie for a wedding we are going to in a couple of weeks at Mens Werehouse so I had to go in there looking like a freakin clown! His reaction was "whoa!!!" complete shock, even the guy working there was shocked. I looked at myself in their mirror more closely and felt like crying. I felt like she mocked or humiliated me on purpose, how could she say it looked good!!!! How could she send me away with such an awful job. I had the darkest line of eyeliner under my eyes and on my eye lids, I looked like a freakin raccoon or an overly done up drag queen!!! I'm not over exaggerating either. I was a mess!! She didn't clean up the under eye area so there were bits of fall off and black flakes from the mascara she applied. My eyelashes looked like thin spider legs and almost non existent. She applied a thick black line under my bottom lashes with a black chunky liner pencil and then dabbed dark purple shadow over it , and added sloppily done thick black line of liquid liner on my top lids. The only part that looked decent was the shadow on my lids but I couldn't get past the horrible liner all over my eyes to even respect that part of it!!!
I wish I had taken a picture of it, but I was so upset I just wanted to wash it off. We were going to go out to dinner after the mall but I was too embarrassed, so I went straight home to wash my face while my fiance went to pick up dinner for us. I don't know why she did this to me, maybe she thought she could get away with doing a horrible job if she overly complimented me like she was because she thought I had no self confidence. WHATEVER!!
I don't think I will ever return to this MAC counter agai read more
