I went with a few friends of mine and I was definitely not in need of anything. We were waiting for my friend to check out and were listening to Monique (cashier) talk to her customer. She was absolutely a doll and extremely sweet. She was recommending the trial sized cleanse off oil. Let's just say I ended up purchasing one even though I just purchased my favorite makeup remover from Mary Kay two days ago. She was so knowledge and assured I'd love my purchase. If for any reason I was unhappy I'd be able to return or exchange. I just wanted to take a minute and say thank you for your awesome customer service. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the negative reviews of this store. I've been in here twice--both were to return/exchange items I had purchased from another MAC store while traveling on vacation. I will say my visit today included one employee who was very kind and tried to be as helpful as possible. She told me I could exchange my items for something else in the store since I had forgotten my receipt at home. However, the other two women who were involved in my exchange were extremely rude and unprofessional. One of them was apparently helping another customer turn in her recycled containers and was literally hurling them into a trash can behind the front counter as if she hated every second of her job. The other woman, who appeared from the back to help my sales associate complete my transaction, kept repeating "That's why we need a receipt" while she tried to look up the store I had made my original purchase from. If it hadn't been for the kind sales associate who helped us find items for our exchange, I would have snatched my things back and told them to forget it, that I would take my business elsewhere. With the exception of the nice woman who helped me find new items to use in my exchange, this store is the complete opposite of any MAC store I have ever patronized. And something tells me the two rude women were actually managers or supervisors since they were the ones who helped finalize my transaction. Terrible business sense they have considering I could easily visit the Nordstrom across the way for the very same items I wish to purchase. I will say this helped me show my daughter how not to behave when you're at work. I was not greeted right away, which is totally cool...I know some people obsess over that initial greet (and I understand that). What I find most important is that, once I had a question or needed help, someone was immediately there to help me! We went on a Saturday and yes, they were busy. Yes, they we're doing makeup and come to find out a few of the girls were on their break. Keep in mind... The Mac store is gonna be a mad house on the weekend. My mom and I went because we used Mac foundation in the past and were looking to go back to the studio fix foundation life. 2 young Teens dressed in fancy, historical gowns getting Makeovers. Someone's little boy sitting in one of the chairs, makeup artists scrambling all around. A woman with Her baby stroller taking up what's already a very tiny space. My mom asked if she could get Her makeup done and a M.A sat Her down and after awhile they had a lil dispute about whether my mom's undertone was gold or red. They eventually cleared It up and the M.A was patient and understanding... She kept her cool which was nice because my mom was getting so frustrated. I got my foundation done as well by a slightly older woman. She was very nice and did an amazing job matching my skin tone the foundation I wanted to try. I had my makeup done here for my wedding day. It was a crazy stressful day and I was wound up. My makeup artist did a great job. When I thought she was doing a little too much, I let her know and she fixed it immediately. I had my makeup done at 1pm and I still looked perfect at 6pm when I got married (in blazing heat!). I got my makeup done here for my wedding day. The makeup artist did the worst job. I told her I wanted really light shimmery romantic pink dewy look. I told her I usually wear super light eye makeup and hardly any eyeliner. I also said that I wanted pink blush and a shimmery eye. The whole process took an hour and we were in a time crunch. I didn't see the end product until we were finished. She went super super dark on my eyes and the blush was like a brown color. The whole thing was a mess and not at all what I wanted. My makeup was so dark and not romantic or shimmery how I previously requested. By the time I was finished we were out of time and I couldn't tell her that I hated it. She put dark shadow above my eyelid? I couldn't believe what a horrendous job she did. Good thing I know how to do makeup and pretty much had to do the whole thing over. My wedding day was almost ruined!!!! Make sure you keep an eye on what they are doing and be super specific about every single aspect they do. Wtf?!! It was laughable. I was so happy with the service I got that I had to write a review. It makes me sad knowing that a lot of the reviewers here had a bad time! Maybe I just chose a good day to come in? However, I agree with some of the points that have been made. The store IS a bit tiny, and the place is incredibly busy from time to time. So having your specialist moving here and there to get out of the way while trying to talk to you IS bothersome. Today I believe there were only 2-3 workers, and the place was swamped, with people asking for advice, being matched with their correct color, and the likes. So while I was getting my makeup done, the person doing it would have to pause, apologize, and help out the customer before returning back to me. I didn't mind much, because I know that it can't be helped. Now that I've talked about the store itself, and the environment, I'll talk about the person who did my makeup. O.M.G! I love it. She was amazing, I brought in a photo, and she worked it on me. When she did my makeup, I told her how I wanted it to be a more darker look, she nodded, and with that little note she nailed it on the 2nd try. It was astonishing. I'm somewhat new to the makeup world so as she put the makeup on, she told me why she was doing it, how to do it, and the brushes she used to get it done. She said because I spent over $50 that I'd be able to get my makeup done again... it was phenomenal. I ended up getting the makeup she used for the look as well. This was not my first time going to get my makeup done, I went to the Nordstrom's Mac counter, and the girl who did it was nice and chatty "do you go to school?" "why did you decide to come here?" "is this ok for you?" stuff your dentist or hair stylist would ask you. The look she gave me was nice, but wasn't what I was lookign for, and even with critique, did not really get the look I was going for. But the one here was personal, and she really wanted you to enjoy your makeup, and made it clear to say whatever you didn't like about it. She talked to you as a friend. I'm not going to try to defend the workers, because I don't know all of them. I only know about the workers I saw today. The workers today tried to address every customer that walked in, and when they had to go help someone else, they excused themselves, apologized, and quickly went to deal with the new customer before returning. Seems like they sort of have a system. I'd give it more time before it's completely ironed out. I will be returning, if only for the person who did my makeup. :P I see that Alicia H. This location has horrible customer service! I have been using MAC products for years, although I always buy at the Nordstrom counter. This time I decided to make my purchases at this store because I had a back to mac redemption and they have more options when returning to a store versus the counter. Anyways, when I walked in there were many employees who were unoccupied, no one greeted me so I let a man who was putting away some products know that I had a back to mac redemption and which products qualified, he then asked a girl who was standing around if she could help me, she must have overheard that I was doing back to mac because she was so rude and blatantly complained about helping me (I don't know if they are commission based but she probably just thought I was only in there for a free product.) she told me to let her know when I needed help. Nope, no help needed from such rude staff! I picked out my free lipglass and took my business back to the Nordstrom counter where I ended up purchasing many products that I needed from their friendly associates who always are nice and willing to help. read more

I have been to the new MAC store in the North County Mall a few times since its recent opening. I was very disappointed with their customer service. The girls were unapproachable and acted very standoffish. I got the feeling that they were not happy working there or at least not happy with their job. I worked in sales/customer service for many years and if you are not a people person, you should not be working in retail. Why would I want to shop at that MAC store in the mall when I can just as easily go to the MAC counter inside Nordstrom's (a few stores down) where the employees are always helpful and eager to please. I brought my daughter here for her prom makeup this past weekend. She made an appointment about a month ahead over the phone and about 2 weeks ago we decided to stop in to confirm her appt since we were already at the mall. They didn't have her down so we made an appt then. While I was waiting for her I browsed around and watched the employees. There was a one girl there I believe her name was Daniella who had an attitude. I watched as she stared at me the entire time like I was going to steal something. She answered the phone rudely and when another customer grabbed an eye shadow off the wall she rudely informed her that she has to ask for a color and then she told her to put it back, didn't even ask her politely or offer to just take it. I couldn't believe her lack of customer service so I told my daughter I would wait at another store. We definitely won't be back and will go to the Carlsbad Forum or Nordstrom instead. read more

Worst mac store I have ever been to... I am an extremely loyal customer to mac cosmetics and only use their products. I go to the mac store in Carlsbad at the forum regularly (I get my makeup done about 4-5x a month) and I absolutely love that location, but have only had the worst experiences at this one which has caused me to never come back here! The sad part is that I live closer to this location, but I would rather drive the extra miles to go to the Carlsbad one. I show up for my makeup appointment here (Carlsbad was booked) and three makeup artists just glare at me. I stand by the front and they just continue to look at me and talk amongst themselves while they just look at me and not in a "hi can I help you" way more like "what are you doing here way". I finally have to approach them and tell them I have a makeup appointment and wait 20 minutes before someone finally came to help me. I explain again that I had a 5:00 makeup appointment and she tells me "well you aren't down for a reservation". I have to play my confirmation voicemail for her and then she finally says "okay hold on". She gets her manager and I can hear them bicker with something along the lines with their manager saying that someone needed to do my makeup. At this point it is now 5:45, and I am told that someone will be right with me to do my makeup. Finally the makeup artist comes and appears to be pretty upset that she has to do my makeup as she rolls her eyes and sighs when she comes over. I explain to her that I wanted full coverage and a kardashian smokey eye and she could take it from there I'm really not picky since they are the makeup artists they know best. I am then replied with a "well I don't know how you expect me to do your makeup if you don't tell me how you want it". I kindly try to explain that the Mac girls in Carlsbad always just kinda take it from there and I let the makeup artist get creative. Then she goes "well then since they do your makeup what foundation do they use, what color, what brush, etc." I explain to her I have no idea that's why I need to have my makeup done because I don't know the step by step process. Kinda thought that's what makeup artist were for. She seemed so annoyed she had to do my makeup the whole time it made my entire experience so uncomfortable. The only other time she even talked to me was when she was trying to sell me products down my throat. It takes a lot for me to say that coming from a hardcore sales manager, but just a little advice build a bit of client rapport before you try to sell products down your customers throats. After my makeup was done it was the worst makeup I have ever experienced I literally could not even believe she was actually a makeup artist. There was eyelash glue all over my eyelashes, my eyelashes weren't even holding on to my lids... She didn't put on top liner to cover my lashes which would have also helped with the noticeable glue but somehow caked on a bunch of bottom liner. On top of that she forgot to do my lips I had to ask her after she tried to tell me I was done probably so she could get me out of there. I come to this Mac when I am usually a bit more lazy to deal with the traffic going to Fashion Valley (their location is the best by the way). But the most recent time I have gone, it was a slower day so the store was pretty much empty. There were 3 employees there and they all stood around by the counters, gossiping about other employees.. It was hard NOT to overhear what their conversation was about when it's just you and another customer walking around the store. 15 minutes in, i finally get the "were you looking for anything today" WTF? Am I Casper and just all of a sudden, magically appear in the store and then all of a sudden me and the other customer in there became visible? If you need to be in and out as quickly as possible, and need to look for whatever it is you're looking for and aren't really expecting "okay" customer service.. this is the place. read more

I've been to this MAC multiple times since it has opened. I'd have to say that every employee I have encountered in this store has been so accommodating and helpful even when they are super busy. But there is one that ruins my entire experience every time I go there. I don't know her name. And I don't mean to bash on her in a rude way but honestly there hasn't been one time that she's helped me out where I was satisfied with it. She is an older lady with short hair to her shoulders. She has talked to me in a rude tone. When I tried to return something she rolled her eyes at me. When I asked for a sample of two products she rudely replied back with "um okay but two is the maximum. Why not just buy the product?" AND the each sample she gave me was only enough for one use. Literally. I've had samples from other employees and they were very generous with it where I was able to use it for at LEAST a week and a half. She also gives me this glare like I'm going to steal something from the store. And, I had asked her a question about a product and she answered back in a way where it made it seem like she thought I was straight up dumb. Long story short, the customer service I receive from her is the worst I've received in this MAC store. I usually just walk out if I know she would be the one helping me. Again, I deeply apologize if I'm coming off as rude but my intention is to just push her to improve her customer service because I know many people don't want to be helped in this way. 3 stars for a store with good products, good location, and almost good customer service. read more

I have been going to this store since they opened almost 3 years ago. Every time I go it's always hit or miss with the employees. But someone who has always gone above and beyond has been Javae. This is a person who does not give you a dirty look for going in the store with no makeup on. This is a person who is kind to your children unlike other employees. Javae is amazing!! I have taken two classes with her and she is very thorough and answers all of our questions. Her makeup and style is always on point and she's one of those artist/employees who makes you want to come back. She is very educated in each product and will help you with any makeup needs you may have. Make sure you take her classes that she hosts once a month! You will not be disappointed. The customer service at this location has been horrible since the day they moved in. Not only does every girl have complete b**** face, none of them smile and none of them act like they want to be there. Today was beyond the worst of worst. I walked into the store wanting to buy a liquid foundation, a powder foundation, eye shadow and an eye brown pencil. The only employee was by herself helping someone that she obviously knew, as she hugged them goodbye. Ok, fine. She took her time but still informed us she would be right with us. "Right with us" was a good 10 minutes. It was fine until the middle of putting foundation on me, she stopped and walked around the store asking people if they needed help. I was never offered help when I walked in. Next, I asked her for some eye shadow, she wasn't listening to what I wanted, picked some random neutral colors up, sat them on the table next to me and went to check someone out. She must have told us 10 times she would be right back.. She left us sitting there even longer. How long is the average customer supposed to wait? My friend and I walked out without purchasing a single item. Mac, I love your products, but something needs to be done about the lack of friendliness and customer service at this location. We all know retail is hard, but please hire more people, hire people who want to help customers and want to work. I will now purchase my items online because why would I drive to the mall when the help here is slim to none? read more

I just want to say I appreciate you all so much. I just went to a class yesterday hosted by Javaé and the class was extremely helpful & very well put together. I had such a fun time, I felt very comfortable being there I got tons of great product that I'm VERY happy with! All the Girls there are such an amazing souls. Javaé and Lindsey always makes me feel beautiful and everytime I need help they always makes sure I get taken care of. They remember me by name and always ask me how I'm doing I feel like it's home away from home when they're there and it's such a cool feeling. I love stopping in and even just saying hi to everyone. The manager I'm so sorry I'm blanking on her name right now. She's blonde well blue hair now very cute & sweet! She's awesome! For my first time ever stepping into a MAC store I can honestly say that I will never be returning to this location! I visited the mall at just the right time, it was very slow and practically empty. So I decided to go buy the lipstick that I had been wanting to buy since I saw it on their website. Somehow I am not surprised that it was so empty!! The two employees on the floor did not even bother to glance at me and continued to chit chat as if they didn't even work there! The ladies at the counter didn't even bother to ask if I needed help! I always have a great experience at this location. In this instance, I had an OUTSTANDING one! I had to get my makeup done for a college formal. My makeup artist, Sophia was such a sweetheart who really put her all into making me look amazing! I came in with pictures of ideas of looks I wanted, and she made me look even BETTER than those pictures! I couldn't believe it every time I looked in the mirror. Why didn't I read the reviews before stepping into this store?!? My husband and toddler and I made a special trip to visit the mall. We are not usually in the area and I was doing a "back to Mac"- where you return 6 makeup bottles/containers and get a free lipstick/lipgloss/eyeshadow. I stopped by the Mac store inside Nordstrom's and one of the girls told me that they could help me. I told her what I wanted and she informs me that they offer only lipsticks and not lipgloss or eyeshadow if that was my preference, but that the Mac outside of Nordstrom's offers all three. Seeing as I still have a lot of lipstick and lipgloss left, I opted to go into the other store for eyeshadow. (The independent store next to Charlotte rousse.) When walking in, I wait 5 minutes before someone sees that I need help, (I didn't want to interrupt anyone because it was a Saturday and most of them are helping customers). A young lady by the name of Lindsay says I'm the next customer and she can help me right after. I tell her to take her time and that I am just doing a "return to Mac". I start browsing through the eyeshadow selections for the next 10 minutes. Then I notice she finishes with her customer and takes another customer who walks in after me and sits her down and starts doing her makeup. I am close enough to hear the conversation so I know she didn't have an appointment. I wait another 10 minutes eagerly looking for an available representative and now I'm starting to get impatient. I ask another employee for help and she tells me that she can be with me in a second. She's still with her customer so I wait patiently thinking I'll be helped. Finally, I wish I knew her name or got it but a different employee sees I have been waiting for a while and offers help. I tell her what I need and what I want and she apologized for my wait. It wasn't my intention to get an apology, at this point my intention is just to inform management of this mistreatment. As a longtime customer, it makes me feel like I have brand loyalty and it's discouraging to see someone who represents their company can treat anyone that way. It's appalling to get passed up because Lindsay wasn't going to make a commission off of me or just take a few minutes to complete my transaction. I ended up addressing the situation with the manager about it not to be difficult but to correct an issue that I wouldn't want myself or anyone to experience again and she apologized for my wait as well. She was nice but I could tell she was passive about the situation as she rushed back to the back. I get it, it's a Saturday and it's busy and what was I expecting her to do? My time is no more important than anyone else's but do not make the assumption that my time is less important. Obviously after seeing these reviews and that Lindsay was called out by prior customers I feel as if nothing is being done about her poor customer service which reflects badly on the whole store and management. Lesson learned...Nordstrom's Mac holds a high rating in customer service for a good reason and I'll be going there to avoid the mishap of having to deal with an inadequate employee who lacks basic customer skills. I'm very aware that not all of their employees are this way as evident by the numerous customers they were attending to and the third and last employee who helped me who should be commended on how she handled that situation professionally. Maybe Lindsay had an "off-day" or heck maybe I had an "off-day" but as a representative for one of the leading makeup brands I do expect better customer service. read more
