First: let me say that I have been a huge fan-and loyal customer-of Sephora since I discovered the chain in 1999, while living in Tokyo, Japan. Since then, I have shopped in Sephora locations all over the world, and this poor ailing little satellite shop inside JC Penny needs to either be greatly improved or put out of its misery. The shelves are piled all helter-skelter with merchandise. The make-up displays are torn up, dirty, and disorganized. The staff is in absentee mode, and there is so much empty space where product should be, I'm thinking this shop won't last through the holidays. I came looking for a Anastasia eye shadow and 90% of the display was empty. The remaining 10% was torn up, filthy, and out of any sort of order. Needless to say, I was not able to purchase what I wanted. From now on, I'll be driving a little further down the road to the Fashion Valley shop for my skin care and makeup needs. read more

PRODUCTS This Sephora been updated and it look so much better anyway some of the shades and brand never be enough they always running out of this and that. Oh we don't have that color like whyyyy? Lol. They have the sample but not the products so hard to find your shades. Some of the products not sample on the way check out been use like all of it and they still sale it for $5 hand cream . Wow. No way. People are a mess and they have enough employees to keep an eyes on them idk why they still left those stuffs out and sale it. I went in there on a cyber Monday and they said spend more than $100 you will get a gift set, I'm not trying to send and get the gifts but she said if u pick 1 more thing u will get a gift I said ok, not too bad. So finally she said if u apply for JCPenney card you will get it spend over 120$ and they gave me a tiny hand cream like $1 wow. CUSTOMER 4 stars They was nice like 5 people asking me if I need help and some new products they don't even know why they don't have it, it was nice cause I know sometime they gave u that weird looks but it was a great experience about customer service. read more

Horrible experience, I usually go to the UTC Sephora so maybe I've been spoiled by the exceptional service there, even during COVID. First of all, I walked in to this place and was looking around and had to hunt someone down to help me even though I was looking at various products for several minutes. After I hunted a sales person down and explained what I was looking for she helped find some foundation. I told her I'd give it a try then she went to check and they were out... then I got a blank look and silence... so as I'm standing there I look at her and decide to ask if I can order it online then she says yes then starts walking away. Maybe she thought I was going to go home and order it myself? So then I catch up to her and ask her if they can order it for me then she first gives me a surprised look like she was not expecting me to ask that then goes to talk to another associate then after a minute she tells me to go talk to her associate when I'm ready. After that I go to try to order it and turns out they are out online then that is the end of the interaction. Then I had to go try to find random foundations and concealers and they were pretty much out of everything (not her fault) but I spent about 40 minutes at the store looking at different products to see what I could find and I was never approached again by anyone to see if I needed help. Then I walk over to the same sales associate and ask her what is going on or if they're out due to covid and she responds "yes due to covid" then silence, then I ask her if they're getting another shipment soon then she just answers "yes" then silence, then I ask how often they get shipments and she responds with "every two weeks". Then at that point I just give up, pick up some random shades of what they had available, pay for them and leave. I've never experienced this at a Sephora before because the customer service is usually top notch but I've also never shopped at a JC Penny Sephora. These people looked like they did not want to be there and I get that you're out of everything but when it's literally your job to help customers maybe try to be a bit helpful? Otherwise maybe you need to find a different line of business. The store was also not busy, there were about 3 other customers while I was there. I don't enjoy making the drive to UTC from Escondido but rather drive there next time than come back here again. read more

This store is never stocked. I tried to return something, that I got there, and I didn't have a copy of my receipt. I tried to look up my account, but cell service sucks in there. The girl told me "we don't look up accounts anymore" and my store credit would've been "$12.50" for a $40 dollar product. Something about only being able to offer the lowest possible value? None of it made sense. Ended up going to a real Sephora in Carlsbad, and the girl took amazing care of me. I'll make the 30 min drive to that one from now on. read more

I know nothing about makeup but my girlfriend said that she needed something, so we went here to checkout some options. I was really surprised that my girlfriend didn't know a lot about makeup because she looks like if a model had a baby with an angel, so she doesn't really need it. But she did have some questions and Jenny was very helpful. She took time in picking out the perfect color, and gave a demonstration on how to apply it. Even gave some useful makeup tips. It was such a relief to have someone as knowledgable as Jenny help us. Especially because my girlfriend was asking me for my opinion on things and I had no clue what language she was speaking. JENNY was so AMAZING! I honestly wasn't planning on buying makeup last night but I was shopping around the mall and ended up at target. I normally wear powder foundation but have always been wanting to try liquid. I was looking at the cheaper brands at target and I was thinking I might as well go big or go home. I knew I've always wanted to try Fenty foundation. So I walked across the mall to the Sephora in JCPenny's. I walked in not knowing anything especially what color would match my skin. Jenny was so helpful. She matched the perfect tone for my skin. I asked her to explain how to put on the foundation but instead she actually taught me by having me take off all my make up and by physically putting it on my face. She also taught me other beauty tips with Primer, Bronzer, and Highlighter. She spent probably a good 30-45 minutes with me. She definitely made me feel important. Worst Sephora I've been too. I'll come here as a last resort when I don't feel like going to UTC or Fashion Valley. The employees are always walking about not helping customers, talking amongst each other, or not enough employees working. I don't return my Sephora products here often but when I do, I receive snobby attitudes. I always end up spending the money I get back in the store anyway so I'm not sure why there's attitude. read more

Usually get fenty for my primary foundation but unfortunately my skin color is now hard to find because I got too light and there was no in between color to match my face perfectly ): BUT luckily I got helped out my Sel Or Sal (spell check sorry) super sweet and patient when I was sad about not matchig beauty's skin levels. Found me the perfect skin level with the brand nars! Also, didn't get the lady at the register's name, but she had short blonde silver hair with beautiful eyes ID#0306 (on my reciept) she was definitely the nicest customer service rep I've ever met! I scheduled an appointment to have my makeup done which has been a long time coming. I'm 31 years old and I still don't know the basics of makeup application. My daily routine consists of some loose powder for a "foundation" and some eyeliner. And every once in a while, pressing my lips together to get some color into them. I was a bit nervous at my naiveté about the art that is make up application, but upon meeting Jackie, my nerves eventually calmed. She listened to what I wanted and didn't veer from that path... I'm pretty low maintenance and wanted something simple. Jackie chose some great products that went well with my complexion and had some good tips. Love Sephora usually, this review is for this specific location: So today I wanted to return a moisturizer that is making me break out and exchange it for something water based of the same brand. I read up on the return policy just in case (see attached pic) and go on my way to make a simple exchange. I have no issue with showing my ID or whatever. So I wait in-line and finally get to the cashier who flat out refused to process anything: I can't return that, can't look up your info on your VIB card, etc. So naturally I call the Sephora customer service line afterwards to find out WHY this store seems to have such an issue taking returns when the return policy for free-standing to JC Penny stores is clearly outlined online as per my screenshot. Long story short customer service agent says this Sephora in particular is "special" about returns because of the way the difference in pricing with the products they offer works vs a normal store - but, she will help me get the return processed anyway so I don't have to drive all the way down to UTC. My return was processed but the cashier had a HUGE attitude problem (I'll admit I was a bit pissed off myself, since I only expect the best customer service from a store that takes so much of my money), and then I was issued a WARNING RECEIPT LMAO LMAO stating I can't make returns without a receipt at that store again. Needless to say I will never be returning, makes me even seriously question if I want to be a sephora shopper at all. read more

Some people are just meant to be in customer service which is not an easy job. I walked into Sephora early Friday morning and all 3 associates were super eager to help. I needed help finding the right foundation for my skin and the right shade. Rachel was beyond helpful. She talked to me about the best foundation for my skin type and even helped me pick out the right skin care routine for my face. She was extremely knowledgeable and soooo funny. She made it very enjoyable shopping for makeup which can sometimes be intimidating. She picked the perfect shade of makeup for me and I'm so in love with my new face makeup and skin care products! I've been a customer at this location for some time now. It used to have less product and customer service wasn't always great, but recently I've noticed they've turned all that around! Everyone's very friendly and helpful and their products are up to date. If you want to find your perfect pallet or see what eye look fits you best, I highly recommend her! Come to Marissa if you are looking for makeup that is right and customized for YOU. She backs up her makeup suggestions with facts on to why they will work for you and why that product is best for your needs. Dylan is amazing at suggesting skin care products for your skin type. I bought an Anastasia dip brow in the wrong color here a couple of weeks ago. Stopped by today to exchange it for a darker color..I was given a hard time just to exchange without a receipt even though they can see in the system that I had bought one. The manager came by and said to the sales person that she can do this exchange without a receipt but to be careful because people do this all the time. Like wtf?? I bought it from your damn store a couple of weeks ago and if I had known that I would need to exchange the color then I would have kept the receipt. I'm not trying to return the product!!! This is not a regular Sephora store, so there's some important differences between the two: -They cannot take returns without a receipt, unless you want to scan your ID. Since they are a Sephora in a JCPenny, they don't have the capability to look up your purchases on your Beauty Insider account. You can opt for the ID scan, but take note that it goes through a third-party vendor and if you return too many items, you can get banned from returning items without a receipt. -Products are very limited here! Granted, they will have the essentials and the popular products most people are looking for, but the newer products or the EXTREMELY popular products will be sold out. Additionally, they don't carry all the brands that a normal Sephora would have. -It's SMALL! It's literally a box-shaped area with maybe 3-5 cast members on the floor. Nonetheless, they are all extremely helpful and have the same expertise as a regular cast member from a full-sized Sephora. Still a great Sephora and sustains my make up obsessions when I don't want to go as far as Fashion Valley or UTC, but definitely limited in products and brands. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this Sephora. I much prefer going to the free standing store in Fashion Valley, but it a little too far out of my way, and sometimes I don't want to deal with 163 traffic. As with most Sephora inside JCPenney's, they have a limited brand selection. When this store first opened it had NARS, Urban Decay, Tarte, Buxom, Benefit, Anastasia Beverly Hills and a some I don't remember. Since then this store has expanded it's brands due to popular demand; Make Up Forever (MUFE) was added a couple of years ago, and they recently added Bite Beauty, Marc Jacobs Beauty, and a small Soap & Glory section. What's nice is that they carry the majority of my favorite brands that I consistently use; if you can't find what you're looking for (E.g. Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Laura Mercier), you'll find it at Nordstrom next door. However, with all of that nice sentiment being said; it's a complete hit or miss when it comes to stock and customer service. It's always a different experience whenever I drop by to pick something up, or indulge in a new makeup product. Granted this store has improved over time since they opened, and depending on what I'm planning on buying it gets the job done nicely. 3.5 stars! read more

Sephora Sephora Sephora. The times I've been here, I've been treated very nicely. The employees are knowledgeable and are also very helpful. I've gone for foundation samples because my skin changes a lot thanks to my hormones, allergies, and eczema during the seasons. Currently after baby number 3, my face has been allergic to so many different products when before I had no allergies. They have been so understanding to my needs and unfortunately I still haven't found the right foundation because each one I've had some type of allergic reaction after the third day but I'm hoping to find the right one and I know the employees here at Sephora will help me. This Sephora is located inside of JC Penny. It's not a full blown Sephora, so they might not have what you are looking for there. They also don't carry certain lines (Laura Mercier) at these smaller locations. The good news is that they carry a lot of popular items here, and it's less crowded. Call before you drive specifically to this sephora, they are always out of my staple items. Kat Von D foundation, sold out, liquid lipstick sold out, eyeliner, sold out. They don't keep their inventory stocked at all. They have been out of Kat Von D vampira lipstick for weeks. Only bother swinging by if you've called and confirmed the specific item your looking for is in stock. 2 Stars since most of the girls that work there know how to do their make up. read more

Every time I come here I always get excellent service and people that answer all of my questions. I always feel welcomed and listened to. I have been to other places like Ulta where I will walked around lost and not one person asks to help me, and sometimes when I am helped I feel like I am being judged. This is a smaller store, so they may not have all the selection of a larger store. The location at North County Fair is very convenient though. Everything is clean and professional looking, even though it's a busy weekend. Lexi, with the teal stripe in her bangs, was really helpful while being low key. She picked the perfect color foundation for me and gave me a sample. She was also able to give me suggestions for other products for my coloring, which I really appreciated. This is a small Sephora located in JcPenney. It's really small and they don't carry a lot of brands, and a lot of the times they don't have the newest items. I feel like the workers here aren't really knowledgable on the products compared to the workers at the real Sephora. And I feel like they're always short on staff because there's either a super long line or there's 2 workers at the register and there isn't a worker to be found on the floor to answer my questions. I go here because there isn't a close Sephora store by my house. And I'll stop by if I'm at the mall but they usually don't have what I need. I'll go here if i have no choice, but if I do have the choice, I'll go to la jolla or Chula Vista. Sephora at JcPenney does take returns on purchases made online. read more

Yikes... this was the worst experience I've had at a Sephora. It's clear that a few employees hate their job. I don't think I've ever seen so many employees working at once while standing around talking to each other and doing nothing. The lady who checked me out wasn't friendly and seemed irritated. I handed her my gift card and she told me I needed to scratch off the back to enter my PIN number. As I'm struggling to scratch off the back, I asked her for a coin because my gel nail polish was chipping off. I was clearly struggling. She sighed, handed me the penny and then walked away. Another lady took her place and was much nicer, however, she had me enter the information for my second gift card manually. I've never went to a store and had to enter in all the info myself. I thought it was very strange how they attempted to do as little as possible. I'm usually reminded of my points and that didn't happen. Once I received my items, they were placed in a JC Penney's bag instead of the beautiful Sephora bag. I understand if they ran out of bags, but In the past I've been provided with some type of notice, apology, or explanation about the not-so-glamorous bag. When you visit Sephora, you pay a price for luxury items and products. The experience and customer service should match. Please do better. read more

I had the WORST experience here just now. I came here ready to get all new makeup but I needed to get color matched as makeup is not really my thing but no one helped me. Even when I went to check out there was no one behind me and she asked if I found everything I needed and I told her that I hadn't since without foundation I don't have a starting point to get much else. I still spent $80 and didn't get what I came for or what I hoped to get . I only came here because my coworker highly recommended them.. I'm pretty upset to say the least because the cashier could have helped me since I was the only one in line IF she wanted to but she didn't. No one made an effort to help me even after I asked if someone could help me. They just wrote my name down and stood around. It couldn't have been more obvious that they didn't want to help me for whatever reason. Do yourself a favor and go to bare minerals, they approached me as soon as I walked in and asked how they could help me. They got me setup with my makeup from A-Z. It's nice to have a Sephora in North Co. when I know exactly what I need to purchase. And this sephora doesn't have everything, but it has enough (well most of the time). I've been wanting a particular brush by Anastasia. They were sold out in December and .. they're still sold out this month. I settled on a different brush that was very similar. My real gripe is ... the testers!! They are either dirty or non existent! I wanted to checkout a few lip products. Some were very dried out and other didn't have a tester available. If you know exactly what you need to get, then it's not a problem but if you're wanting to try something new, you might consider heading over to UTC instead. read more

This Sephora lacks a lot of products. I always stop by this one because it's the closest to me and I'm always disappointed, I never learn. They NEVER have what I'm looking for. No matter the brand they are always out of several of the items the brand makes.
