Solid spot recommended by a Roanoke Grad. Wide selection and a nice looking place. Went with a bacon cheese burger with a side Caesar salad. Would stop in again for sure. read more

Have been served under cooked chicken multiple times. Raw chicken tenders. Cold and not cooked in the middle at all. Service wasn't great at all. Servers seemed to be gathered talking amongst themselves instead of helping the tables. Owner Bob is very rude as well. I've personally dealt with his verbal abuse as well as anger issues when things aren't going well or anyone has any input on his business. read more

I love this restaurant. From the time I moved to the Roanoke Valley people have recommended Mac & Bob's to me, and they never disappoint in particular, one server, Bobby, always does a super job. So when I come into the restaurant, I ask if he is working and what section he is serving so that I can enjoy his good work, always with a smile, making sure the food order is hot, the drinks are cold, and everything is delivered in a swift and satisfying matter. You gotta try this place, if you've never been here! read more

Great place to eat and a great place to be served. The owner is a good man and you always feel welcomed.

Myself and my girlfriend were in Salem for the night as we were making our way to Tennessee. Decided to try Mac and Bob's for dinner. My burger was excellent! My girlfriend had spaghetti and she said it was very good as well. Had chicken wings as an appetizer and they were great! Place was packed but the food came out very quick and our server was present the whole time we were there. Would recomend to anyone in the area looking for a nice atmosphere to have drinks or dinner. Side note: they have a very nice outside bar and outdoor dining. read more

Grabbed a quick bite after a college visit to Roanoke...right across the street from campus and super easy parking! We were seated right away and served super quick! I had the giant calzone with just cheese and my mom had a mushroom pizza. Our food was hot and absolutely delicious. Our server was Kara and was super sweet! She knew we were in a hurry and made sure to bring everything out right away. Will definitely be back if we're in the area again! read more

What a nice treasure that we happened upon! Tanner was fantastic as he was seating us and offered great suggestions since we are not from the area. I mentioned that I could not eat bread, but ordered the French Onion soup as a side. So, our server made sure it didn't have any bread on top (w/o me even asking!). The Devils Pony beer was a wonderful suggestion. Everybody enjoyed every bite we ate! The service was great and the back patio was perfection on this sunny day! read more

The food is so good that you shouldn't go here on a crowded night. It'll take a long time to get served, but I totally understand why!

I've eaten at Mac and Bobs all my life. This experience today was simply put the worst. The waiter brought the wrong drink twice to start. Then never brought our side salads at all. Finally the burgers were orders medium rare and were raw. Waiter never showed back up at the table to check on food or drinks. Someone who wasn't out server brought our check and we waited and waited until we finally walked up front only to be told we have to wait on the server. We talked to the server and informed him he forgot our side salads. We were given the bill and I just wanted to pay and leave at this point. No mention at any time about our service or food issues. So disappointed read more

My son and I were driving cross country and made first stop in Salem VA. After reviewing places to eat at after 9pm we chose here. I got the Kendell zone calzone which was a supposed smaller version of there normal calzone. Son got chicken tenders. Both were cold to luke warm. We had beers which were fine and then I decided to try a Manhattan as that is my preferred drink. When she brought it, there was lipstick on the rim. I told the bartender and she was just like sorry and walked away. After refilling beers for a couple other patrons she came back and then asked if I wanted a new one. Well duh! She then took it to show I guess her Manager or boss. She then finally made a new one but never put a cherry in it. Don't think she even put one in the first. read more

We were seated around 5 today. Sat 10 minutes or longer. A large crowd with children were seated and received immediate service. Suggest your staff pay better attention. We have been coming there for 25+ years. We left and got great service elsewhere! read more

Great as always! We both had Chicken Marsala and loved it. Always our choice eatery when in Salem. Thanks!!!

Gee, where to start? My wife and I ate here on a weekday afternoon, looking for something different. As residents of Salem, we have rarely eaten here because the few times we have, our meals have been less than mediocre. Sadly, nothing has changed, I had a fish and shrimp platter that was just ok. It came with a side of tasteless and warm Cole slaw. My wife had a French dip that ran a bit light on the meat (think "where's the beef") with a side of French onion soup that was neither hot or tasty. The only reason I'm rating this experience as 3 stars is due to the superlative service we received from Anne G.; otherwise we would rate our experience as only 1 Star. We remain perplexed as to how this establishment remains in business by serving such less than mediocre meals. This is not COVID-related as our past experiences with Mac and Bob's Restaurant has been equally uninspiring. With so many other great dining options available in Salem, we won't return here anytime soon. Many thanks to Anne for taking great care of us! read more

OMG this place was the best!!! Where do I start? Our waitress Paige was so friendly, helpful, and all around great! The wine and beer selection was incredible! Then the food... I had the ahi tuna salad and it was fabulous! So much ahi!! My husband had a killer steak! I would 100% recommend this place! The menu has Everything!! Two thumbs up for sure! read more

We stopped at this restaurant because it advertised craft beer and american food. We were immediately approached by "Sam" W, a server who obviously knew how to serve. He actively listened to what 2 tired and hungry people wanted, and brought it without pushing extra items but came around often enough that our meal experience was very satisfactory. The meal was good; the service excellent. read more

Food was so so, server was friendly. One of our two orders was wrong. Thx Chicken Cesar salad didn't have any chicken. The other, Thai Chicken noodles, had no flavor and was barely warm at best. The plate was very hot but food almost cold so I am guessing the food was previously cooked and not heated properly. The server didn't bother to ask why I didn't want to take a barely touched meal to go which tells me, they don't care. I would not go back. read more

The last time we ate there, I agreed with a reviewer the place smelled like dirty mop water and had a putrid smell in the dining rooms. We haven't been back since. Interesting the owner only comments on the good reviews! That says alot that he doesn't care to improve the food or the atmosphere. read more

Came into town traveling through on our way to North Carolina, got a tip from our hotel that this was a good place for a meal. Nice downtown atmosphere, although a bit quiet but hell its Sunday evening. Had turkey pot pie off their very ample menu, my partner pesto chicken sandwich . Pot pie, spot on good with ample amounts of vegi's and turkey Sandwich, meh, a bit dry on the chicken is the only down side to and other wise good time out. Lots of seating and parking. read more

Been here half a dozen times and it always falls a little short. $24 sirloin, medium rare and cooked just about right- but it was really, really tough and not particularly flavorful. The entrees come with a starch or a vegetable - but not both. Kind of disappointing, given the price. So we had to pay extra for a veg or salad. Didn't offer bread or rolls with full entrees - had to pay extra for those too. Our waiter was a nice young man - polite and relatively attentive. One of us ordered a margarita and he wrote it down and said ok but didn't ask whether she wanted it frozen or on the rocks. We had to tell him. Then he didn't ask "salt or no salt" - you get the picture. Service was adequate but not impressive - same as the food. read more

Food was very good. Wings were some of the best in town. Got the Boston zone and it was huge. Tasted great! Great location, good service. They even have a rewards program. Great lunch! read more

$15 for a chicken breast and 4 pieces of broccoli: It's a tourist trap. I'm really not sure why so many people come here. The people have been friendly when I've been here, but the service has been extremely slow every time. It took 30 minutes to process a takeout order once. The first time I went, it smelled terrible, I thought someone had urinated on the walls. I haven't noticed it since though, so either I've gotten used to it or they've fixed the place up. To be honest, I always thought it was mediocre overpriced food, other than the Cuban sandwich, which is easily the best thing on the menu. I was willing to eat here until a couple months ago when I came here with a few friends. I was looking for something a little bit different and healthier so I ordered the "herb grilled chicken on a bed of roasted vegetables." It took about 20 minutes more to make than the things my friends ordered. When it came, it was 2 small chicken breasts (which were actually pretty good but not filling). The real kicker was the "bed of roasted vegetables." It consisted of 4 pieces of burnt broccoli. The waitress just looked uncomfortable and shrugged when I asked whether that was seriously the dish they were charging 15 DOLLARS for (!!!). Since I was still hungry, I had to order a bowl of plain pasta, which was just mushy and tasteless. Basically, I paid over $20 for one of the worst meals I've ever had. Seriously, they're just out for your money. If they weren't, the prices would be lower, the food would be much less mediocre. They're a local establishment though, so people mindlessly give them business. It's sad, because they certainly don't seem like they're trying to earn their reputation. read more

Ok. This one is a mixed bag both with service and food. When we were seated, our waitress was not the warmest person and could not describe the Chesapeake Chicken Special, so I wasn't sure whether to order it or not. Instead, I opted for the Jalapeño Meatloaf. The flavors were all there, but it looked as if it were baked on the plate in which it was served. My wife's wings were amazing and the waitress eventually warmed up during the meal. It leaves me with a big question mark about returning. read more

I had a really good southwest chicken wrap. The pretzel with beer cheese and mustard is good here too. Would recommend

Stopped here on the way through to Asheville. Service was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly. Menu has a good selection and some unusual items. It was a nice Monday evening and the outside patio was perfect. I had the jalapeño meatloaf and it was excellent. The fried mushrooms were good too, just don't use too much horseradish or it kills the mushroom flavor. The beer selection was above average, lots to choose from. I can see this place being busy on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

Great local sports bar and grill with something for everyone. Tons of cold beer on tap and in bottles. Great selection of micros and old reliables. Fully stocked bar and great service. Don't let the outside fool you, there is tons of space inside! I have never tried anything off of their menu that I didn't like. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Salem or Roanoke. read more

Excellent food and atmosphere. Turkey rueben was great. BertiePoo had chicken sandwich and we both had salads.

My husband and I have been on the road for six days now. We were tired of fast food and food ourselves at this restaurant. The food was good. We got the crab ravioli, Caesar salad and minestrone soup. The service was okay. Nothing to make you go wow that was a good dining experience. Our waitress was there, eventually, when we needed her or were ready to order. The hostess though. She kept seating everyone in the tiny front room, the size of a bedroom, where there are seven tables and a tiny walkway. Right outside the arch of this room is the hostesses booth. Things I learned from my very disruptive meal as she talked to the other hostess: 1. The hostess gets paid under the table and receives free food as part of her payment. 2. She'd really like to be at home on her couch in her pajamas eating her steak and potatoes that she's going to get for free after work. Even though her husband wants her to bring home a sandwich for him. 3. The first fight (and fights thereafter) she had with her husband she learned that he liked to use 'big words' when he gets angry. Like their first fight when he was complaining about the dishes not being done, so she started to do the dishes and he shouted "don't patronize me." That was the big word? I have hosting experience, I know friendly is key but if you're interrupting guests, chatting with others, that's a little much. read more

Excellent food and service! One of the best in Salem! Worth the stop if you are just passing through.

Kind of an older restaurant with a sports bar feel. There are tons of tv's and a big bar area. I had the Stromboli because the server said it was their specialty. It was huge for sure and I couldn't come close finishing it. As far as taste, it was just okay. I've had better, but it did the trick. I'd probably go back again, but maybe order something different. read more

The staff at hotel recommended Mac N Bobs without so much as a second of hesitation. We started off with the Garlic Knots. That aroma of fresh garlic hit us as soon as the knots hit the table. A wonderful start. We had 2 calzones...the smaller of two sizes. The waitress had suggested that we try the larger size...only a dollar more, but having already seen the size of these we declined. The Boston Zone was absolutely to die for. I've never before had a calzone that actually melted in your mouth! I had a Calzone with Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, mushrooms and onions. It was also amazing. As we were leaving a nearby customer was served a steak on a sizzling platter. It was least 1 1/2 inches thick and looked to be cooked perfectly. We're going back tomorrow for steaks!!! Don't miss this one! read more

We were out-of-towners looking for non-chain place to eat. Mac and Bob's was a pleasant surprise. Our server was Shane and he was excellent. I got the Calzone and it didn't disappoint. Excellent. Bet you can't eat the whole thing. My wife had the shrimp tacos and enjoyed them also. read more

Service was very nice but our food wasn't at all. I ordered Fish and Chips, the fish was over cooked to the point that it was dark brown, inside was rubbery. On the other hand the Chips (Steak Fries) we're not crispy. My wife ordered . Blackened Chicken Alfredo ...was average at best. Most people here were ordering Pizza and Calzones, we probably should've done the same! read more

We've gone to Mac and Bob's for years. The restaurant is great for large groups. The food is average, but my dad loves the large calzones. This experience was beyond terrible. The waitress was very friendly and promptly took our order. My mom and I ordered cups of the chicken chili (not white bean) and split the crab cake meal since we weren't too hungry. My dad ordered his usual calzone. The soups came out cold, and we sent them back because who likes cold soup. We needed to send the soups back a second time. Being microwaved, the soups burnt our tongues. We aren't usually ones to complain, but barely heated soup the second time isn't appealing. The crab cakes were delicious with tasty filling and compared to ones at an upscale restaurant. My dad's calzone nearly went over the plate... He loves them! I think the waitress felt bad and comped us with an extra side salad. read more
