The food here is very good. The servers are always professional, fast and accommodating. I had a company meeting with international members and their menu was accommodating to everyone from vegan, vegetarian and my members with food sensitivities. I will have other meetings here in the future. read more

On a road trip from North Carolina and pulled off the highway to eat and stumbled upon this restaurant. It was packed to the brim on a Friday night but we were seated right away. We started with buffalo wings and Caesar salads which were excellent. Our main courses were steak and salmon. Both unfortunately were a touch undercooked but my boyfriend politely asked for his steak to be cooked a bit more and the server took it back no questions asked. When she returned, it was much better cooked. The salmon was overall good albeit a bit underdone. The mango salsa was a very nice complement. read more

Sports pub focusing on American favorites. Great burger. If you have a "light" appetite - go for a "kids" meal. It was plenty of food. A member of our dining party raved about the Grilled Cheese. Busy and popular with both locals and tourists. Not to loud so you could converse with your partners. Clean environment. Staff was accommodating and checked in frequently. read more

My family ordered dinner from Mac and Bobs tonight. We ordered garlic knots, our favorite. When we got home to eat them, they were not warm, they were stale and not fresh. Immediately called the restaurant and spoke to Bob the owner, who took responsibility of the issue and advised he would personally deliver fresh knots to our home. Which he did, not even 20 minutes after. Best customer service we've experienced in ages and will keep us coming back. Bob thanked us for letting them know about the issue and was glad to take care of us. read more

In town for some hiking along the AT, and really needed a good refresh with outdoor seating. 1st, the good...plenty of space for plenty of people, even during Covid. Staff was friendly and attentive. Service was fast and accurate. The bad... The food. At least what we had wasn't worth the price. The beer cheese was decent, but underseasoned. A bit bland, but definitely our favorite part of the meal. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries, and it was *okay*. The meat was poorly seasoned, so quite bland, and the fries were just fries. Nothing to write home about. The awful was my wife's order...pimento cheese BLT... She said before she ordered it that it sounded good, but combining salty pimento cheese, salty bacon, and salty fried green tomatoes might give a result that rivals a salt lick.... But then she said "I'm sure whoever decided on it considered that and adjusted the recipe for it." ‍‍‍ This sandwich was SOOOO salty it actually made her throw up (luckily she made it to the restroom) after only 2 bites. So my question becomes...does the head chef even taste the food that comes out??? Do I need to call Gordon Ramsay??? You have a seriously great opportunity to make a top-level joint here, but rookie culinary mistakes like this will keep people away, and you'll never know why. read more

The food was delicious and the service was good. We were there for Father's day 2023 and the place was busy. We will definitely be back

Best Italian-Augustino Sub in town! Servers are usually Roa College students. Bob's run a great local restaurant for decades here, the place is clean, and a fine place for a solid lunch or dinner! read more

Enjoyed the atmosphere here, with this worldwide pandemic going on, this place made me feel like I was at a bar again. The bartender/waitress was amazing and gave me a great recommendation since I was in a "Angry Orchard" drinking mood and they were out. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and I'm gonna be honest, I was to hungry to taste it. Lol. I ate it faster than you can scroll past this review. Would definitely come back and recommend this place. read more

Reading previous ratings and reviews, I was not expecting much. We were traveling through the area, and figure we give it a try, and we were pleasantly surprised with the food and service. The food portions were generally large, and the quality was good. The server was on it, he was made sure everything was good, and was very attentive. I had the southwest wrap, and I highly recommend it. My wife had the tortellini, and she was extremely happy with it. Both the taste and portions was great, again, a highly recommended selection. In my travels, there tend to be decent restaurants near colleges and universities. This one was right down the road. The atmosphere was geared toward all, not just students. We saw family, students, and professionals. Give it a try! read more

No breakfast menu, due to covid, but the waitstaff and everyone is socially distanced, outdoor seating, wonderful and attentive staff. I know Bob through church family and he never fails to stop by and say hi when he sees us. Such a great family establishment. Food was lovely, service was lovely. They accidentally messed up our order and gave the two of us free dish of fruit and fixed the order promptly. The drinks were great. 12/10 would recommend: 1) Boston Zone calzone 2) Salem Salad/Katie Salad 3) Mimosa!!! read more

We stopped in here on a Saturday night for dinner with a 5 person group. They were able to get us in which was around 8pm. The hostess I spoke with on the phone and who seated us was very friendly. The server we had was friendly. He was a little slow getting us started but once we ordered our apps he was following up just regular enough which was good. The wings ordered for an app were very good. Cooked perfectly and the BBQ sauce was tasty. The chicken quesadilla two of my group ordered they said was good and cooked well. The other items ordered included a burger, chicken fettuccine, and steak along with fish and chips. All of the food was tasty and seasoned well. There was one issue with the blacken chicken fettuccine and the server quickly got it replaced with a regular chicken fettuccine no problem. Two of the group ordered desserts. The cheesecake an the brownie with ice cream. Both were large portion sizes and very tasty. read more

This was a disappointing experience. I was traveling through to Charlotte when I needed to refuel after refueling my vehicle. I saw a sign on the Interstate for this place and figured it sounded way better than just a blah fast food joint. There wasn't a hostess so I just assumed I was to help myself to a table and hope I would be waited on... I chose to sit at the bar figuring I would grab a quick beer and burger and get back on the road. I spent a few minutes before going in, reading over the menu and settled on a particular burger that sounded mouth watering. I sat at the bar only to be ignored several times. When I was finally acknowledged, I learned that they only had a "late night" menu. It didn't have a burger.. Sad face. I settled on chicken fingers. They were fat, meaty and juicy but pretty heavy on the breading. They were okay. I was just disappointed over all and know I necessarily won't divert from the highway wen traveling through... read more

Fantastic food and service. Always delicious meals and friendly servers. One of my favorite places to eat.

Excellent! We sat outside on the very large patio for lunch. The bar out there was not open but looked really cool. Plenty of seating and TV's. I ordered the grilled herb chicken over roasted veggies. Delicious. Very flavorful. Parking - they have their own lot albeit small. There is a paid lot right next door that they validate for so free. The table next to us ordered calzones. Good Lord they were huge and looked delicious. read more

Great Diner food, fun experience, good service. If you like to go to Diners, this is a must try.

AS an iconic restaurant that has been in Salem for many years I decided I would try it out and see what the attraction was. I expected a basic eatery they would offer a wide range of food options. Umm it's good , maybe a 1st date kind of low key atmosphere. It's not quite my type of place , however with a wide range of Meal options there is something for everybody. read more

They serve a Rueben sandwich piled high with meat, I could barely get my big mouth around it. All sandwiches come with your choice of side dish, I opted for the house-made potato salad. The Reuben sandwich was awesome, very lean corn beef and just enough sauerkraut on buttered rye. This was my only time visiting Mac and Bob's but the bar had a neighborhood like feel and it seemed like many of the patron's knew each other. Service was excellent. read more

This place consistently hits the target of terrible food, terrible service, and terrible attitudes. The few times we have tried eaten here, we are treated like an imposition by the servers and the food they offer is laughable-both in presentation and taste. How these folks stay in business is a real mystery. Do yourselves a favor and eat elsewhere. There are too many good restaurants in Salem to waste your time, money, and health here. read more

First off, they had beer cheese! This was my first time trying this, and it was delivered to perfection! The staff here was super friendly and attentive to our needs. Wish I could give 1/2 star, I'd give MBR a 3.5. The best think was service. The food was good but maybe I expected too much. I ordered the Chicken Marsala but was a little disappointed as it was under flavored but portion was large. Wife had calzone but the dough was undercooked ( bottom was still raw) and son ordered French dipped which was the best. Will say the deserts we took home were good. I might go back again. read more

I'd give it negative stars if I could... Seriously avoid this hole. Food is horrible. Thought we would try some local food passing through - didn't want to go to usual Applebee's or other franchise. Wish we did. This place is dirty and the food is just thrown together. Husband got a veggie panini and the cucumber still had the skin on it, lettuce was yellow, mushroom looked canned. I had the French onion soup. The cheese was rubbery provolone that had zero taste. Flies everywhere. Over priced crap. Sorry but being honest. read more

I've been enjoying food from this restaurant for many years and I've never been disappointed until today. Picked up pizza for my family, ordered at approximately 5:02 and got my text at 5:24pm that my order was ready. I was only in the parking lot so a quick walk to pick it up..... We get home about 10 minutes later and have to heat the pizza up because it's already cold. Not sure why but seems like the large deluxe pizza was left sitting while the small one topping cooked. Disappointed and definitely not worth what we spent or expected for our pizza night. tasted Like a frozen Red Baron pizza :-( read more

Great beer, good atmosphere, not loud = good. I wish I could give half stars be because I'd give this place 3.5 if I could (I'm a math person so I rounded up). The beer selection is definitely one of the better ones (and they do growler fills). Most of the beer is craft beer and a lot of local beer in the mix. They do 5oz flights where you can taste 4 beers for $7. It's a good deal; if you don't know what you like or want to try new beers, this is definitely the way to go. My husband and I came here for a Monday night football game and they had the game on everywhere. So, if you're coming here to watch the game or games, don't worry. They have an ample amount of tvs in the bar area. The food is good. My husband ordered the French onion soup and we shared the garlic knots. The soup has a great flavor and they use mozzarella cheese instead of Swiss which is better in my opinion. The biggest flaw (if you want to call it that) with the soup is that the bread at the bottom is supposed to be super crispy and it was not. But other than that, a solid French onion soup. The garlic knots aren't very garlicky but good. The bartender is amazing. He was the only one tending the bar for both the restaurant and the bar area (which is pretty big, holds about 30-40 comfortably) and the restaurant and bar were pretty packed and he was able to keep up with everything. He is also the waiter at the bar so, he was definitely on point. I read in a few reviews that the place was dirty. I don't find this to be true at all. The place is definitely old (opened in 1980 I believe) and you can tell they've been around for a while. There's a lot of foot traffic and they keep it clean. Definitely stop in for a bite to eat and a beer; expect more of a pub/bar food feel and you won't be disappointed. Ps. I also read that the calzones are good. I haven't tried them yet but I want to!! read more

The service was quick and nice and the calzone was not disappointing. Calzone portion size was not at all disappointing.

I loved to eat here. The food, atmosphere & service is exemplary. However, I can't support any establishment that steals money from the servers. Having found out from WDBJ7 news that they have illegally forced waitstaff to contribute a portion of their tips to pay dishwashers I will no longer patronize this establishment. The servers work hard for their tips & are paid sub par wages because of their tips. To expect them to give up a portion of their income so the restaurant doesn't have to pay the dishwasher a decent wage is reprehensible. Now Mac & Bob's is filling bankruptcy to avoid paying a judgment & thus depriving servers once again of the money they're entitled to. Shame on you! read more

Stopped here on a road trip, recommended by the front desk folks at our hotel. Nice enough place, patio area is attractive. The food is good but nothing spectacular. I had a burger with blue cheese and a Cajun Rub. My lady had a broccoli and cheddar quiche. The burger was ok, cooked correctly to my order. The quiche had a lot of cheese on top, maybe too much and not very much broccoli. Ok but meh. read more

The food is nasty, no flavor at all. I guess it's ok if you just want to drink and watch sports but for food a definite no.

This is one of the worst restaurants I've ever visited. We were passing through and stopped in on the hotel's recommendation. The salads were sub par, the raspberry dressing was more like jam and the roast beef sandwich wasn't good enough for your dog. On the way out we noticed a very strong smell of sour dirty mop as we passed the kitchen. I shutter to think about how dirty that area must be. read more

Unfortunately I had a sad experience fro Mac and Bobs. My wife and I ordered a chicken philly and a steak philly fries salad and the crab artichoke dip. The total was around 45.00, which is a little more than other places. We took it to go due to covid and not wanting to sit inside. When we opened the food it was so disappointing. The sandwiches had no lettuce or tomato, the mushrooms were from a can and there was hardly any steak or chicken. The 9.00 artichoke and crab dip was in a very small container. It might have been two tablespoons full at best and I bit into a crab shell which hurt my tooth. It was so sad the way that Mac and Bobs is falling away like many other places. read more

The best restaurant in the Valley. Won't meet better owners than Bob and Joe. Love this place.

Google says 'open until 12am' on Sundays, their front door says 'open until 11pm' on Sundays, so we drive 30 min's (for what we already knew would be lack-luster, nothing special food) and got there before 10pm to no Host or Hostess, plenty of super dirty tables, and a welcome by the server (after we seated ourselves) saying that the kitchen was already closed... really?! Ya think, maybe, someone would care enough about the patrons to advertise (on anything other than your own website) that the kitchen closes earlier than the establishment?! Even still, it was before 10pm!!! Now, we've guaranteed that nothing else would be open... because we CHOSE to give this place another shot after our last, consistently horrible experience there. Ironic, that they can afford to turn away business, but then go whine and cry on the News and Social Media about how they 'can't afford' to pay the kitchen staff/employees a living wage - even though the place is one of the most popular restaurants in all of Salem and has been there for MANY years. Lesson learned I guess... we should've gone elsewhere, to begin with... we knew better than to think anything had changed since our last visit to this place more than a year ago. Part 2: Reply to owner's comment: I'm posting a picture of what Google, and Google Maps, says your hours are... Guess you'll need to get a bit more tech.-savvy as a company in today's world to get this corrected and help soften the influx of already dissatisfied consumers. I, nor does anyone else in the public, want a company to 'make it up' to them on the back-end... they expect the experience to be consistent and of quality each and every time - oh, and more importantly... RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. This was NOT a single isolated incident (thus the multiple-year gap between my previous visits), for myself and many others (judging by the negative reviews that people have shared with the public), that have had similar experiences at this restaurant, but it will surely be the last for me. Congratulations on paying a higher wage! Maybe now you can avoid court battles, future labor lawsuits, and disgruntled workers feeling the need to seek satisfaction by way of the legal system. Best of luck with your rapidly declining establishment. read more

Figured we would go out for brunch on Sunday around 1130. We were immediately told that they were busy but it didn't appear any more crowded than their normal dinner service. The servers seemed busy and were not as attentive as they had been in the past, which made communication irritating. We ordered the eggs combo with pancakes and biscuits and gravy. While we waited 47 minutes for our food to come out cold, we routinely heard servers advise their tables that the kitchen was extremely busy and food would be out shortly. Sadly, the food was not worth the wait. read more
