Clean elegant layout meets the eyes, spacious and inviting. The service was impeccable, prompt and professional. The food was a delight of fresh tastes, great herbs and deliciously prepared meats. Really enjoyed this Turkish cuisine experience!

It was a cold wintry day when I visited Kroran, a small and cosy Uyghur restaurant in Scarborough…read more We were promptly greeted and seated by the lone server, who was friendly and helpful. Aside from teaching us how to pronounce Uyghur correctly (kind of like Vee-Grr), he recommended 3 dishes, the Legmen, Quruq Qorima, and Somen. We started with a Uygur salad, followed by some Manta (dumplings) and then the Somen. I'm happy to report that all of it was excellent! The very fresh salad is composed of tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic and onions. There was not a leaf of lettuce in site, which pleased me (I'm not a lettuce fan), and the cucumbers very fresh and tasty, with pleasantly powerful chunks of garlic complementing the salad well. At first, I thought that the Manta were a bit overpriced at $21, but when they arrived, I saw that they were enormous, and we had 6 of them! To my delight, the generous lamb dumplings were filled with lamb soup! Be warned! It will come bursting out all over your plate if you are careless, and you'll lose all the goodness of the soup! (I usually bite a hole in the side and try to sip it out). These were so excellent! The best soup dumplings I've ever had! Kroran had already set high expectations when the Somen arrived, and we were not disappointed. Somen is a sauced beef and noodle dish, with hand pulled noodles, savory pieces of beef, and various vegetables, including wood-ear mushrooms. It was a fine example of comfort food, and the noodles had a satisfying bite. Despite the whole chillies, it was quite a mild dish, but hot sauce was at the table so that you can spice it up if you prefer a more heat. It was very comforting and warming on a chilly winter's day, but I'd enjoy it year-round! Kroran is a bit pricy compared to similar restaurants, but the quality of the food and generous servings make up for that. Happily, they take all common methods of payment. Parking can be a bit tight, but there is some street parking available on the sidestreets. Uygur food is relatively uncommon in the GTA, but worth seeking out, especially for lamb and beef enthusiasts. I look forward to return to Kroran soon and try some other dishes, particularly the Lamb Kawap (kebabs), Samsa and Legmen.

We visited this place for a quick family lunch and it turned into one of those "I need to come…read moreback" moments. I was a bit unsure at first since Uyghur cuisine isn't something you see every day around here, but everything was incredibly well balanced and approachable. The aroma, texture, and quality of the noodles were just outstanding. We shared the Lamb Kawap (lamb skewer with Uyghur seasoning), Kidney Kawap, and Uyghur Chicken. The skewers were absolutely mesmerizing. None of that strong lamb smell you'd find at many other places, just a clean, fragrant flavor with a softer finish. Perfectly grilled too. It was my first time trying kidney skewers, and the texture really surprised me--chewy, meaty, but not heavy at all, and with no trace of that distinct lamb scent. The Uyghur Chicken was another highlight. Well-seasoned, rich in flavor but not overly spicy, and the chicken was tender through and through. Having it with their hand-pulled noodles made the whole experience even better. The sauce was so good I kept dipping the bread into it nonstop. Honestly, this place hits all the right notes. Great flavors, comforting atmosphere, and real craftsmanship in every dish. Definitely coming back soon.

Food is amazing, but service is non existent…read more Food 5/5 Service 1/5 Ambiance 4/5 Came with a reso for five adults and got seated promptly. The restaurant got busier throughout the night. The restaurant has a beautiful interior and high ceilings. Service here is little to none. Which is unfortunate since their food is so good. After taking our orders we were never checked on. Asked 2 different servers for extra serveware and never got it. Had to ask more than once to get water. Overall the service is BAD. What saves this place is definitely their food, as it's very delicious. Definitely start with their variety of dips for sharing. Here's what we got: Mix Appetizers 5/5 - Came with hummus, baba ganoush, spicy mashed and haydari. All delicious and served with fresh bread. Mixed Pide 5/5 - This was also great for sharing and tasting the variety of pide options. Came with cheese, minced meat, and sausage. Mix Kebab for 2 5/5 - This was more than enough to share with the five of us, as portions are large, especially when you are ordering other sides. A variety of meats including lamb, chicken, beef served with rice and salad. The meal ends with complimentary tea. Overall, delicious spot with great food but just lacks any type of service. So good that I'd still come back for their food.

The restaurant's modern decor makes it feel elevated, but it's not stuffy or posh inside at all. I've never had Turkish food before, so I can't comment on the authenticity or taste, but I really enjoyed our meal! The pide was like a naan, and it tasted so good with that generous cheese topping and the complimentary yoghurt-based dip. The beef doner was also tasty, and I was not expecting that gigantic pile of meat! Stuffing that beef between the flatbread with some of that yogurt dip, add some pickled red onions, cucumber, & tomato = perfection. Looking forward to my next visit!
