This is similar to Ark Surplus but with newer items more variety and a lot more of police tactical gear here.

They have an extensive collection of Lugers, and usually bring out military surplus to the gun shows. Their Taurus line up is often extensive. However, if you're looking for new HK's or more elitist brands, they're not often in stock at this location or in very limited availability. They are more than willing to order them, but be prepared for an unpleasant surprise at the quoted price. Though they're one of my favorites to browse at gun shows, I rarely go to their store 1.) because they never seem to be open after work when I'm able to go and 2.) some of their store employees suffer from the same machismo that turns me off from dealing with gun enthusiasts. Call ahead to make sure they're open, and go in knowing exactly what you're looking for.

An interesting experience. Much of the space is taken up with the owner's private collection of…read moreLugers and other WWII collectables. There are some good rifles and shotguns in the rear of the store, and racks filled with overpriced junk on a rack in the middle of this little shop. Around the store, on the floor, are bins of old ammunition at top prices. Behind the counter you'll find a mixture of inexpensive pocket autos, old guns, and the owner, Griz, who dispenses some of the most outrageous BS you'll ever hear in a gun shop. I've heard him go on about AKs, saying he spoke at length with Mikhail Kaliishnakov at the US distributor's warehouse. Nice try, but Kalishnakov never worked for a US distributor and didn't speak English. The last time I was there he was explaining that the ammunition shortage was due to the government buying up all the ammunition made and shipping it overseas. The younger guys who work there are pretty reasonable, and I'm told that Griz is in the process of selling the business to his son in law, so perhaps things will improve. If you're in the neighborhood it's worth a visit just to see the old collectables, but generally I purchase my ammunition and supplies elsewhere. Update: The last half dozen times I've driven by the store has been closed and locked up. Are they still in business? No idea.

As everyone knows, we have a lot of cloudy days here in Michigan, so using the sun as a navigational aid can be really iffy at best, especially in the fall and winter months. So if you're like me, investing in a good compass can mean the difference between finding your way through the forest to grandma's house, or just plain getting lost in an area where there's no cell phone reception and becoming a menu selection for the big bad wolf. My cousin who served in both Gulf Wars, told me about Cammenga who actually manufacturers high-grade, military lensatic compasses that are built to last, and are rated combat tough! They are the official producer of the M-1950 3H lensatic compass to the U.S. Armed Forces that uses tritium illumination technology, which is ideal for finding your way in the dark if needed. I decided to purchase one of the 3H models to replace an earlier inexpensive liquid filled compass that failed, after I dropped it on the ground while taking a hike through a nature preserve in a neighboring county. After much deliberation, I decided that a military grade compass would be more than rugged enough to handle my needs. Likewise, with the tritium illumination, which is guaranteed to last for over a decade, I am not dependent on phosphorescent paint, which needs a source of light to shine for a while in the darkness. The best part I like about the model 3H is that it came with a carrying pouch and durable lanyard. So, if you enjoy the great outdoors like I do, then you will find this compass indispensable part of your travel gear.
