They are so generous with their spices, adding extra on the side in case you want to add more to your meat. 5/5 Restaurant is pretty small, with only a few indoor tables and a couple of outdoor ones. We are so happy that this little gem of a restaurant is so close to home. Unfortunately, we found out recently that they will be relocating to the San Gabriel Valley area due to financial reasons. What I ordered: Braised lamb shank with rice, pickled vegetables (cucumber, carrots, onion), and bone soup Braised lamb ribs Salty milk tea Food: The lamb here is consistently high quality (New Zealand halal lamb), and you can really taste it because the seasoning is mild and doesn't overpower the meat. A lot of places can have that gamey lamb taste, but I come here about once a week, and it never tastes gamey. Everything comes out hot and very tender fall off the fall-off-the-bone tender. Portions are big too... It's honestly hard to finish the last bite. The bone soup is also mild and comforting, which pairs perfectly with the lamb and rice. The salty milk tea is hard to describe, but it tastes exactly like what you'd hope it would taste like, and it's really good. It's also big enough to share with 2-3 friends. Service: They have many tables and can easily handle large groups (8-10 people). Service is fast--braised items come out in about 2-3 minutes, and grilled items are around 10 minutes. The staff is super friendly, and everything is served with a smile. They also check on you halfway through the meal, which I appreciate. Atmosphere: Very clean inside, and the restrooms are clean too. The music is calm and low, so it's a good spot to relax. Parking is easy with lots of space. M Joy has only a few items in the menu but everything was delicious! Service was prompt and clearly communicated. Also the primary server was attractive. We opted for the Deluxe meal which comes with one lamb shank and two lamb ribs. The meat in both was cooked the same, so the choice comes down to whether you want more of the chewy skin on the ribs or of the internal fat from the shank. Personally I liked the ribs for texture reasons. The meat pulled apart with a fork, no knife needed. Very moist and bursting with flavor, despite not having any sauce, just lamb flavor. Each lamb entree comes on top of carrot rice. I suspect the rice is made from stock since the rice also has a robust flavor. Each entree comes with a side of pickles, fresh onions, and garlic carrots. All are fine and good, but I thought the lamb paired best with the rice. Sure the onions could have provided a crisp crunch for an additional layer of texture. For drink we selected their Special Herbal Milk Tea sweet (as opposed to salty). We customized to less sweet was enjoyed it. Not so much herbal and tastes almost like a black tea but twice was told it's not caffeinated (I'll find out if I have trouble sleeping tonight). Served in cute teapot with handle on the side and small cups that make it seem like you have more volume. Homemade Yogurt comes at the end with dried fruit and nuts on it, tart and sweetness comes from dried fruit. They also have ice cream with the following flavors: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, Oreo, walnut butter (tastes like cappuccino but not caffeinated). I was told that kids can get free ice cream, and there's a poster in the wall that encourages Yelp/Google reviews for a scoop of ice cream. read more

We were impressed with the garlic sauced, julienned carrots and steamed seasoned rice as sides. The supermarket pickles were unnecessary. The pickled onions were all we needed to give your mouth a break from the richness of the lamb. The skewers of lamb were different. They are chewy, thoroughly seasoned but come with two special salts that kick it up even more. Maybe needed a bit more salt, but they gave us extra cumin seasoning on the side. Yogurt was a refreshing counter-balance to the meat. Probably the biggest hit with my kids was the rice pilaf--super flavorful cooked in rich lamb broth. Overall this place is awesome and we will be back soon. One thing for the business owners to consider--perhaps garnish the braised shanks/ribs with a little greenery to make it look more appealing to a Western audience. When we first came in, the owner greeted us right away and explained the menu to us. He said that if we order two individual combo plates then we will get a refill on rice. Most importantly, he explained to us the top sellers. Thus, we ended up getting #1 and #2, which is the lamb shank and lamb rib. We're never in this area, but had a shop that we wanted to visit. Turns out M JOY was the highlight of our experience out here! We love lamb so we're always excited to try new places that specialize in lamb. The fact that lamb is the ONLY protein here just highlights their dedication and commitment to quality and flavor. Fall off the bone they did and straight to my tongue where the spices danced with fattiness in each bite. The pickles provided, especially the carrots, provide that needed refreshment between scoops of lamb and rice. Speaking of that rice, I want buckets of it. It's totally loaded with fatty lamb broth! We also got their special tea with milk, both the salty (hot) and sweet (iced). It's not your usual milk tea, which made it all the better to accompany this meal. They're a busy small shop, with a small team, but our server was attentive and still checked in on us frequently despite having consistent customers rotating in.
