I'm a dentophobe. A couple of traumatic experiences when I was young left me with a lot of anxiety around dentists. Which is why I often find myself preferring dental pain to actually going in to a dentist. It's unfortunate and I've paid the price. Three years ago I had to have a root canal and it was an awful experience. I ended up returning to that dental office 5 times to get them to fix the pain I was still in - eventually I gave up and just dealt with it and it took a year+ for whatever it was to stop hurting. I knew then I had two other teeth I needed to deal with, and I didn't. Instead I waited until one was lost and the other needed a root canal. I found Dr. Matt via a local search for my insurance and his demeanor on the phone instantly relaxed me - so I took the leap and went in. I'm so happy I did! Had the root canal done last Tuesday and zero pain and I wasn't sore afterwards! His calm and kind personality helped so much. I'm even excited to go back and complete the rest of the work needed to get my poor teeth back in good health and me on the road to no more dental issues - ever. Get in here while you can! There's no way this place will be accepting new patients for long. Dr. Phan is reestablishing his practice after having recently moved back to Orange County. The office is modern, clean and very pleasant. Because his patient load is so light right now, I had the pleasure of having my entire appointment taken care of by him: booking, X-rays, exam and cleaning. He also is NOT the kind of dentist who will make up cavities and tell you that you need unnecessary procedures to make money. I found him because my old dentist told me I needed 10+ new fillings (and this was after having no cavities/fillings needed for YEARS), so I looked for a new dentist and a second opinion. For anyone looking for a flawless and comfortable dental experience, look no further. I found Dr. Matt Phan's office by chance while looking for a dental office near me that took my MediCal dental insurance, and I am so lucky to have found such a caring and empathetic doctor like Dr. Phan. Do not be fooled by the lack of reviews, as he worked the majority of his career with his practice at a different location! I have always been scared of dentist appointments due to a string of neglectful and painful experiences (from one dentist accidentally piercing through my lip with a syringe while talking on the phone, and another telling me to shut up when I told them I felt my anesthesia wearing off), so I was extremely hesitant in booking an appointment for a crown I needed. Dr. Phan accommodated me immediately with a consultation and x-rays, and truly took the time to listen and explain to me what I needed done. I have had a total of three visits with him so far, and I noticed his attention to detail and empathy from day one! Dr. Phan noticed my extreme tooth sensitivity, and well as old fillings I had done many years ago that had developed cavities underneath them. I had a cleaning/check-up done by another dentist only a month prior, but he caught things that definitely needed attention that my other dentist had not noticed. With his thorough explanations and education of what his concerns were, I felt fully comfortable in moving forward with his recommendations. I had two old fillings removed, and he even allowed me to see with a hand mirror that my tooth had turned black under the fillings. I'm sure that if he had not found those, I would have needed root canals in the near future. He always let me know that I could raise my hand if I felt any pain, and even if I didn't, he would notice the slightest flinch and stop to ask if I needed more painkillers or a break. For those worried about painful injections, you won't have to worry with Dr. Phan. I knew from experience that shots are often most painful when injected quickly, and he took his time injecting slowly to ensure the least amount of pain. I cannot recommend him enough, and I even got my dentophobe sisters to book with him! Saw this place as I was getting food from next door and gave it a try since I was overdue for a cleaning. I could not be more impressed with the entirety of my experience. Scheduling an appointment was easy and convenient because Dr. Phan is available on Saturdays. Everything in the office is brand new including the most updated tech and tools. I had THE BEST dental cleaning in my life done by Dr. Phan. He removed cement on two of my teeth that have been there for 15 years!! I have asked past dentists multiple times to remove it but they always told me not to worry about it. He did a thorough exam of my teeth and did 18 views of X-rays for only $50. I have been misled in the past by dentists who took advantage of my lack of dental knowledge and performed unnecessary work. However, Dr. Phan was straightforward, compassionate, kind and even conservative in his planning. Took a chance and recently went to M Dental Studio run by Matt to get all my teeth checked and cleaned as my previous dentist had retired. One word, GREAT! Matt's new place is clean and has all the latest technological things (as far as I can see).
