I come from a family of mechanics - across the country. When looking for a new mechanic, I have them to reference. I went to M&N when my mechanic nephew, who has looked after my car for years, moved to the Island. At M&N they are honest and VERY fair in fees for service. They will not sell you on things that you don't need, or inflate the prices of parts. They were able to take me right away and also did the needed repair very quickly. I agree with a previous review, although they seem to be nice people and their prices are competitive they do a crappy job and leave you with the cost of fixing their mistakes. What follows is my experience with m&n auto: October 2015: I brought in the car I was thinking about buying for my wife for a pre-purchase inspection. They pointed out a couple of minor issues that were wrong, but gave it an otherwise clean bill of health, charging me around $150. I told her to go ahead and buy it. A couple of days later we took her car to my parent's house, and I noticed right away that the driver's side front wheel bearings were bad. When we got back to town I took it back to them, and they still said they couldn't find anything wrong. I took the mechanic for a spin and pointed out the crunchy sounds it made whenever I turned a corner. After acknowledging the problem they charged me around $300 to "fix" it. Looking back, I guess I was stupid to trust them to fix it properly after everything that had happened so far. About a year and a half later she noticed a howling sound coming from the front, but assumed it was the new snow tires sounding different than the all season tires. After I put the all season tires back on it was obvious that the wheel bearings needed again to be replaced. Took it to a better mechanic this time, who informed me that I need to replace the hub as well, or else the new bearings would fail after a couple of thousand miles. Sound familiar? I called m&n who told me that they only honored their warranty up to 24 months, and I was calling six weeks too late. No apologies, just "too bad". New mechanic charged me around $200 to fix it, including the $82 hub. Like I said...nice guys, but not the place to take your vehicle. read more

You may second guess your decision if your the type of person that judges "Books based on their covers". This is not a money hungry franchise and therefore isn't full of flashy signs and trained monkeys tricking you into spending your money at every turn. This is your old school neighbourhood mechanic. The kind your father used to bring his car to when you were growing up. This local business has been around for years and managed to survive even with the big box stores taking over. The only way a place like this can survive this type of economy isn't by ripping off their customers but by the complete opposite! Providing honest, reliable, & kind service to every customer that they serve! I know it's difficult to trust a mechanic especially with a large number of them giving the profession a bad name. We are led to believe they are all crooks tricking naive people into paying for unnecessary repairs But take my word this is one of the good ones! I went to the trouble of having a friend (who is also a mechanic) look over my bill and he also confirmed I was getting a fair treatment! Plus I had another garage perform a pre-purchase inspection on my vehicle and found the cost of having my car repaired at M & N was cheaper! Not to mention having a good relationship with your mechanic is always suggested (something you can't have when you bring your vehicle to one of those big box stores)! Suggestion: If you have a lot of repairs (as was my case) take the time to go over what needs to be fixed with the mechanic, then when you return go over all the items on your list before you leave making sure all repairs have been attended to. Preventing you from making a second trip because something was missed. read more

I picked M&N for their high success rate for AirCare inspections. I failed for some reason the first time I had to take my car through. Nadim was able to find the problem, fix it and then had one of his staff take my car out and recalibrate the settings. Finally, they actually took my car through the AirCare inspection for me. I passed with no problem and was pleased that the repairs were reasonably priced. M&N Auto Repairs is where I'll take my care the next time I need repairs. read more

True story. I found M & N after being told by Midus it would cost $1400 to fix my car. I had been going there for a while and always felt like I could trust this Midus location. After realizing I couldn't afford their fix, I had to find another solution. I came across M & N Auto driving through the neighbourhoodI lived in at the time. I figuered why not. I come in, and at first I feel like this place is iffy.. it's small and greasy (but hey what car joint ain't). Anyway, they say they'll take a look at it and do very quickly. He tells me 700 to fix. I was like WTF? Thives at Midus. Thives. Anyway, I don't have all the cash and have to go figuer out a way to get the last $200 I need and these guys at M & N are good enough to start the work knowing I'm still short. Anyway, it's later that same day and I arrive back with all the cash ($700 bucks). And the guy that owns the place is like, "My friend where have you been?" To which I replied, "Getting your money" Haha To which he replied you needed all that time to get $70 bucks? To which I replied, "HUH ? As it turned out, it was something completely different and very simple to fix. He took my $70 cash, think I tipped him another $20 and thanked him for his brutal honesty. I have done business with M&N Auto Repairs at 530 East Broadway for past 4+ years. I have found Nadim & his staff to be friendly and very helpful. Each time my car was professionally repaired. Each time my car (and my mom's car) was repaired right the 1st time. Never did I have to go back to complain. They have treated me with respect and have given me accurate estimates. They are honest people. Unlike SOME of their competitors, they have never used phony scare tactics to get me to approve the work immediately. If there is a real safety issue they will tell you and show you why. They have never charged me high prices like the big boys do. I have found their prices to be very reasonable. Go ahead and check their estimate against any of the big boys and you will discover why so many people (like me) keep coming back. It's nice to know that I have a repair shop that I can trust (especially in emergencies). Word of Warning.... These guys do great work at very reasonable prices. But if you are coming from a traditional big dealership or any of the other big boy repair shops don't expect this place to have a large fancy waiting room and a dedicated receptionist to pamper & chat with you while you wait. These guys work hard in the shop and monitor the front desk. This is how they are able to keep their overhead low and give you low prices. read more

If you're a girl and you've got an older car, then this is the place to take it. All of my girl friends take their well loved (aka 5th hand motors) here. They seem very fair and let you know in simple language what needs to be done. I readily admit that I don't know too much about cars but I took in my 1996 VW Golf last week and it's now running like a dream. The team were polite, efficient and quick. These guys are cheap for sure, and can be friendly, but they haven't stood by their work. Spring 2015: Rad hose burst, took it in to M&N, they replaced it and "pressure tested" everything. I am "good to go". Fall 2015: Another hose burst, took it to M&N. I told them to please look over all the hoses and replace any that needed to be changed. They assured me that everything was fine after another "pressure testing". I am again, "good to go". Spring 2016: Same rad hose that they replaced in Spring 2015 popped again. I took it to them and argued with the mechanic that they should stand by their work and fix it for free and they responded: "These old cars, the hoses break down..." "But it's not an old hose, it was replaced last year by you." "We replace it, we check the hoses, we pressure test, but as soon as you drive off the lot, we aren't responsible for anything." I mean, maybe this is the standard, but it has been under 1 year since they did a simple job, and when it failed, they refused to stand by it. That's garbage, and I demand better. If there is some larger problem causing hoses to burst, they have not identified it. I feel like I'm in the shop every 3-4 months for small fixes. I won't be returning. read more

This place saved me a fortune! I needed to get an out of province inspection, went somewhere else (before knowing about this place) where my car was failed and I was quoted $1600 in repairs. I was stunned because my car is well taken care of. My dad's mechanic (he doesn't do out of province inspections) suggested I try these guys, who he said are honest and reliable. They were friendly and squeezed me in the same day. 3 hours later -Voila! Ain't nothing wrong with my car- it passed! They charged $95 which is way cheaper than Canadian tire or some other places I checked. They earned a returning customer and you should see them too! Honest mechanics - I thought they were extinct but I'm happy to report I found some, alive and well!!!And don't be a fool to take your car to the $39.99 out of province inspection joints - it's not gonna be cheap once they're through with you. read more

I have had two opportunities this year to experience the service at M&N Auto, and both times have been very impressed. So impressed, in fact, that I was inspired to write my first review EVER about them. The owner of M&N is Nadim, and he is the one I've dealt with on both occasions. He's a very friendly guy, and seems extremely knowledgeable. The first time I needed to have a repair in order for my car to pass Air Care, so I looked on the Air Care website at the list of authorized mechanics. M&N was the only one with a 100% success rate (meaning that ALL of the cars that they repaired passed Air Care when retested). After this repair job (my car needed a new catalytic converter) the guys at M&N even took it to the Air Care facility for retesting themselves, saving me a considerable drive & time. It's not often we see service like this these days, and I think it should be appreciated when it does happen. This week I had to take my car in again. It was having problems starting, even after I had replaced the battery. I had called BCAA earlier in the week to get it going one day & that guy said it sounded like the starter. When I dropped it off to M&N Nadim listened to me describe the symptoms & that I had been told it was the starter. He said that it's possible, but he thought it could be a faulty ground somewhere, which it turned out it was. What a relief, since repairing the ground was about 1/3 of the cost of a new starter! I highly recommend trying M&N next time you need service for your car! The only reason I gave 4* rather than 5 is because their shop is small, a bit hard to see as it's tucked back from the sidewalk beside a bigger building, and is a bit messy. But don't let appearances fool you! M&N is friendly, honest, fast & very reasonably priced. read more

I've gone there five times. They fix the problem, and if something doesn't work out, they fix it again with no hassles. Haven't got that hinky "something ain't right here" feeling yet, nor have they ever tried to feed me a line of bull, which is nice - I don't look like I know cars, so I've been exposed to that a lot with other mechs :-( They're fast. I guess they fit my criteria for five stars, but I haven't brought them a multitude of types of cars, so we'll see I guess. read more

This auto shop is very helpful, I tried to install a starter in my car and like most home repairs go I did it incorrectly. I took my car here knowing there was a brake fluid leak and hoping they could fix my starter issue aswell. They not only fixed the brake leak but fixed and showed me what I did wrong on installing my starter. They are very affordable as well, would recommend to everyone. read more

I wasn't even sure my old van was worth fixing but these guys really made a good faith effort to get it going again. It cost a little more than I was expecting but considering time and energy they put into this project, it was well worth it. The repairs took extra time but now I have a van that runs! After spending $800 at Canadian Tire and still failing the Aircare test, M&N did the correct repair for $300 and took it thru the test for me....great fast service with good mechanics and nice to do business with.
