I found this company online and emailed them for a quote for A frame sandwich boards. Roger emailed me back and said that he would be happy to do a layout for our company so we can view how it would look. I advised him that the branch manager needed to approve the layout (many times)and if we wanted to move forward with the order we would let him know. He did make a couple changes to the layout and quoted me a price for the boards. I again reiterated I would have my branch manager review and approve if we wanted to move forward. Roger called me today and I told him we need to put this on hold. He then said he would be sending me an invoice for his time. I reread through our emails and nowhere did he disclose an upfront fee or a fee for a layout. He also never mentioned this the few times we spoke on the phone. If I was aware there was a fee I would have NOT gone through with getting a layout quote. When I advised him we cannot pay a fee we were never disclosed, he threatened to sue us for a "breech of contact".. What contract? There is no contract, there never was a contract and I advised him many times in email that I would need manager approval to proceed with the project. I told him this was very unprofessional and he stated this is how he does business. He also stated that when he sues us he will "ask for my anticipated profit of the job, about $600.00.... I've been in business over 30 years and only sued one person. It's just a waste of time. We could just finish the job. It would be much easier." Pretty sure there are laws against not disclosing fees. And that statement sounds like he's in the business of bullying people into using his services. We will most likely pay him because that is much easier than dealing with an unprofessional businessman that takes advantage of potential clients. Proceed with caution if seeking his services. read more
