They don't just do tires and brakes - we've had their help for a variety of car troubles. Eric is the type of owner who still answers the phone and is in the shop almost every day. He'll tell you when something's beyond his scope instead of getting every last cent out of you. They have a very normal policy for a non-franchise, locally owned business, of not installing brand new tires that are purchased elsewhere. They are happy to install used tires, but as one would expect, are not going to enable someone buying tires at a discount place and then using their services. This is posted on a sign on their door and their staff is upfront about it as well. If other reviewers were told this on a phone call, it sounds like Royal was as upfront as they could be. Certainly nothing deserving a one-star review. I trust them with anything, and took the time to update my review because that other review guy ticked me off with his pettiness, lol.

Bill's Auto Clinic repaired the truck that we haul our camper with when we were vacationing in the…read morearea for the 4th of July. The transmission was slipping, and we couldn't keep fluid in it. It was also stalling when idling. We left a message at the shop on Sunday and got a call back first thing Monday morning from Gordy. The shop wasn't technically open Monday because they were to be closed for the holiday that day, too, but Gordy was in anyhow. He had us come in so that he could take a look at our vehicle and take it for a test drive. We originally thought we'd have to have the trans rebuilt, but after Gordy inspected and drove it, he thought the only thing wrong was the transmission cooling lines. He said he couldn't be 100% sure about that until he got into it, but he assured us that even if they did have to rebuild the trans, they would be done in time for us to head home Friday as planned. They had the truck done and ready for us to pick up on Thursday. Gordy's feeling that it was the lines and not the trans itself was right. They also found that the fuel filter was clogged, which was causing the stalling, and they replaced that as well. All was good with the truck to take us back home to Ohio. When we first got there, I was a bit apprehensive about having them work on our truck because of the shop's appearance. Let's just say it's not a chain repair shop, and it has a very "homey" feel! But Gordy and Bill were straightforward and down to earth, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. When we dropped the truck off, we chatted with Gordy for quite some time. (Our ride took a while to get there, so Gordy even offered take us where we needed to go.) During our conversation, we learned that Bill has had that shop for 40-some years and Gordy has worked with him for many of those, so these guys have a lot of experience. Plus, when we picked up the truck, Bill offered our dog a biscuit, so a couple more points there!

They advertise as being a 10-Minute Oil Change, but Chris and Tyler were extremely efficient and completely serviced my car and changed the oil in even less time than that. My wife and I live in Cross Village and always use this location if we need an oil change and are in Petoskey or the area. The service is always great, but the service provided today by Chris and Tyler was exceptional. In addition to potential customers, I hope the owner of this oil change facility reads this review and give them the pat on the back they deserve.
