Throughout my Paris stay I was craving mussels, what I thought to be a fairly standard offering of…read morea Parisian brasserie. Twice they were within reach but proved elusive and unobtainable (the places ran out). Finally, hours before boarding a US bound plane I stumbled upon this joint. A lively, crowded beer "academy". This is my kind of school.
The beer menu alone is 4 pages of detailed listings and the food, with minor exceptions, may be considered an afterthought. Clearly, as you can see from everyone around, the food to get here is MUSSELS. They come 5 different ways (e.g. cream sauce, mustard sauce, beer sauce), you get an insanely huge amount, they're cheap (7 - 8 euro), and delicious. That, a side of frites for sauce-dipping (4 euro), a few beers, and you'll be happily sated.
I also enjoyed a simply delicious sardine starter: canned, olive oil packed sardines beside a perfect salad of butter lettuce in a dijon vinegarette. There. Go no further. If you decide to have the steak (15.5 euro), I can't say you weren't warned. It was pure garbage meat.
Outside seating here is under a protective enclosure and the resulting acoustics, though noisy, make the place feel festive while still allowing for easy conversation. Mussels and beer, head here. No reservations needed.
