Went here a few weeks ago and it was the best first time experience. Organized with range masters on bull horns to make sure everyone hears "cease fire" when it comes time to check your targets up close. Also you can move your targets 25 - 200 yards. They have their own steel targets that you can shoot at down range. Staff is very friendly even the staff that is in the registration office. First and foremost: bring cash! They're a cash only range, and the closest ATM is a decent backroad drive. Trust me, I just made this mistake. Also, there's pretty much no cellular coverage out here. At least, you can't get an AT&T (inb4 ATT SUX... It's a canyon in the middle of nowhere). That said, this is a great range. I was a little worried after reading some of these reviews, but the Range Officers who were out there today (19 December 2014) were awesome. They made sure that everyone knew that it was their range, but they weren't dicks about it. Admittedly, I haven't been to a range in over 2 years, so I was a little rusty. I made a couple goofs, but they were cool about pointing it out without losing their cool. One of the dudes even made it a point to shake your hand or give you a fist pound on the way out and tell you thanks for coming. He said he'd only been there 3 months, but little things like that leave a lasting impression. Good job, new guy! A+ range guys. Now, the range itself is nothing to write home about... Which is perfect. It's a no frills, no BS outdoor range. Simple and easy. So, don't forget your cash, listen to the ROs, and, above all, be conscious of your safety practices, and you're gonna have a good day. read more

Best range in southern California, as another yelper said some idiots will shoot at your target so if you bring steel targets, keep an eye out and tell one of the range officers if someone fires at your target. Some people don't have class or respect. $14 is a little expensive but other ranges charge more rediculous prices and they impose a time limit on your session. But Lytle Creek doesn't, I like being able to relax about time and not have to worry about leaving. Don't go anywhere else, Lytle Creek is the best. read more

I've never fired a gun in my life. My friend & her boyfriend took me along last weekend for some rifle shooting and I never imagined how much fun this could be. Out in the middle of beauty, is this range that when you arrive, doesn't look like much but is set In the middle of gorgeous nature. $14 entrance fee (cash only) per person, loose dusty gravel parking free. We enjoyed a few hours shooting off a few rounds and rubbing elbows with other gun enthusiasts. It's worth the drive for the scenic distraction and gunfire. The staff here are helpful, I believe Joey helped me, to get sat correctly and gain better aim. My friends boyfriend made his own targets which were far better than the $6 targets they sell which look like average real estate for rent signs you get at Home Depot. I came over here with a girl buddy of mine. Guys find it fascinating when a lady shoots a gun :). I brought a 12 gage shotgun, Mosin 91, and Mosin M44. The shotgun slug shells are insane, it looks like you threw a grenade into the dirt hundreds of feet away. The slug shotgun shooting got some stares too. We shot the Mosins at the 300 yard range, keeping our target at 50-100 yards only. They have a metal dingy 300 yards away, you can't really see it without a scope. I decided to do a 'why not' shot at what appeared to be the metal dingy. I shot and thought, "ya I know I'd... mi.. (ddiinnggg)", omg I hit it! I tried 4 times after and couldnt do it again. I went January 2nd. It was snowing lightly and was really peaceful looking. I guess romantic if you brought a lady friend? The employees there at first don't seem like the nicest folks to approach, rugged appearence, hidden by goggles and hats, surrounded by guns. Once you start talking to them or if they come to 'direct' you, you feel very welcomed and appreciated as a shooter at their range. They never got agitated, even when I was driving into their workplace round the back accidently(got lost, long story). I also left a bullet in the loading chamber, not knowing the rules, and he casually told me to unload next time. He unloaded it for me and left the bullet on the table. He walked off to prep the range by checking on other shooters gear and politely apologized and let me know what happen with the bullet he left out. Hit or miss. Pun intended. Some days are great with friendly staff and a good mix of range length to test your skills. Other days, the staff has a "misfire" attitude in that you seem to be an interruption to their day as a paying customer. I get that some people are unsafe with their firearms, but that doesn't mean we all are. For a business that makes a living off letting people enjoy their recreational firearms/target shooting, maybe put a little more effort into contributing to that enjoyment. read more

Lytle Creek is run the way a shooting range should be run. I have been here shooting twice in the past two weeks. All the staff I encountered were friendly and made my wife and I feel welcome. Some of the negative comments on Yelp I find hard to understand. When you check in there is a minimal amount of paperwork which takes only a few minutes. Parking on the firing line itself is plentiful with easy access to your vehicle. Yes, there are rules but they are simple to follow and are provided for safety. Fred was our Range Safety Officer and I found him to be professional, courteous, respectful and attentive. Fred does run a tight ship but that's as it should be---after all we're firing guns not playing tennis. If you can follow instructions and look like you know what you're doing he will give you your space. If it's your first time he will orient you. If you have questions he is available. Shooting at Lytle Creek is a pleasure. I'll be back. read more

Today was my first time there and I really enjoyed myself. Everyone who works there was super friendly. The facilities are well maintained, including the portable toilets which are the cleanest ones I have ever seen anywhere. They're strict with the rules - which is exactly how they should be. It's odd that they don't take credit cards but I suspect is has to do with the fact there is no cell service that far up in the canyon. I'm looking forward to going back again. read more

You can now get a Frequent Shooter Card for a few dollars, so you don't have to keep filling out the release of liability waiver when you come...just show your card! Went here last weekend with my husband and my father-in-law, had an amazing time! All of the workers were friendly and knowledgeable, the other shooters were also friendly and nice. It is located in a remote area which is nice because you can be a loud as you want. The only downside is that the toilet are porta-pottys, also they only take cash! read more

My wife and I have been to this range on multiple occasions and always enjoyed ourselves. The prices are reasonable: $16 per person for the day, $6 if you want to buy a target, and $1 for a chamber flag. The flag is a one time cost as we have used the same flag on each subsequent visit. Paperwork is minimal and safety is paramount. We like outdoor shooting and yes, we know of places in the local forests where you can shoot for free. But we pay to shoot here because we value the rules the range officers enforce. In my experience they are always polite but firm. And we both appreciate this. read more

Make sure they have room and tables for you to shoot at. We went there and there was 4 of us were all paid the 20.00 then they told us we were sharing a table, we decided to leave and when w went back in to get out money back they pointed to a sign and said no refunds. They didn't tell us on the front end before we paid we had to share only after they had our money. Trey offered a rain check but after that mess i don't ever want to go back there and i don't cared if they go out of business. They have no problem ripping people off taking there money and not telling term what is going on upfront. Not to mention they are only open half day but still charge the same rate as a full day, them make you share a table only after they have your money, with no refunds allowed. They said they need to stay in business and on the weekends they were charging the same price and only allowing 1 table per car. There web site says nothing like that nor is it posted anywhere but they will sure take your money first then tell you the bad news after they gave your money. If they are going to make you share a table then charge way less per person or at least come up with a different color wrist band and charge the second person less. It is very said that I write this I have been going there a very long time and NEVER felt like I was getting ripped off like I did today. Needless to say I will NOT recommend that place or ever go back, I will go out to a legal shooting area or an indoor range. I know times are tuff but when you blatantly RIPP people off don't care that is truly bad no one I want to deal with nor should anyone else. So recently i went to shoot here and i brought some of my newly aquired standard capacity pistol and AR magazines that i got during freedom week in early 2019. Upon firing range officer came and took my magazine and said they were not legal. I tried to tell him they were cause i know the law states you can use them if you legally aquired them during freedom week..he argued with me and a off duty cop did as well saying they were illegal. I told the cop he was wrong as well. They both clearly dont know what they are talking about cause the judges order was clear and my local range lets us use them because they ARE LEGAL. First time out to Lytle creek and I'll definitely be back. The staff was exceptional from the girl checking you in, to Greg the RSO working the line. Greg made the range a friendly, calm, safe atmosphere. He alone is reason to come back. He was friendly and helpful sighting in my rifle. I've shot all around the world and attended numerous courses and Greg is top notch! Oh beware your required to have a chamber flag, if you don't they sell them for a $1. Today was my first time at an outdoor range, so it felt a little awkward as the stations were too close together. I realize it's typical for shells to land in the stall next to you but this was too close and confined for me. I felt as though I was showered with shells the entire time. Thank goodness for the patience of my friend who was teaching me how not be distracted by what was going on around me. The location I thought was great, directions provided were poor as it is actually closer to 10 miles from the freeway exit instead of 8 miles. I think the safety check in could be better because we weren't even asked to show ID. The experience was okay, not what I was expecting for an outdoor range but it'll do, and please take enough ammo or else you'll pay double your normal price. read more

Had an excellent time here. I've been to a lot of ranges and I feel that this one is far better than others. Being able to shoot rapidly, any ammo, and having iron targets at 200 yards makes a huge difference. 16$ is a little on the high side since you can't share lanes at a discount but I'll take it as it's only con. My range master was a really nice older fellow. So many times I had to deal with some douche bag who has a power trip. He did a really good job giving me avid time to shoot and then switch targets out with everyone on the firing lane. The clerk was also a sweet older lady and I was about to buy a target from her when she told me to just dig in the trash can to find a post and put my own targets on. read more

I was really impressed with the gun range. As a first timer, they gave me the orange braclette to notify all I was a newb. There was a strict protocol to keep all guests safe. Though I froze my balls off - I had a great time. It's a full sensory experience, the smell of gun powder, the sound of hundreds of rounds going off at once, the feel of vibration and thrust when firing and the site of bullets penetrating a target. This is a great outdoor public gun range. The range officers are friendly and helpful, as is the desk staff. They don't rent guns or sell ammo (currently). You can shoot shotguns, pistols, and rifles of all calibers. They sell paper targets with stands for $6. Ideally bring your own targets (paper or steel). Distances up to 300 yards (fire conditions allowing). Always good up to 100 yards. Classes are offered for all firearms. The setting is in the San Bernardino National Forest, so the scenery is spectacular! read more

As a new shooter, I had a lot of "unknowns" selecting and then visiting my first shooting range. Lytle Creek Firing Line is the closest managed outdoor range near my home in Victorville. Upon arrival, I found the staff to be courteous but also direct. I felt no hint of bad vibes from the office attendants or the range officers. But I appreciated the tempered but no-nonsense approach to giving me information about the range in terms of rules and safety protocols. I made the rookie mistake of attempting to transport my unloaded gun (bolt removed) from my car to table during a cease fire and was immediately and directly reminded that this also constitutes "handling of firearm" (no handling of firearms in any capacity during cease fires). It was embarrassing but, again, I appreciate the directness as I don't like lax attitudes towards safety when it comes to firearms. My first visit saw a one-time reduction in range fees from $16 (adult) to $12 that is granted if you can show you have brought a gun that was purchased recently (within 60 days of your visit to the range). The range fees covered an entire day of shooting. I also found the office sold equipment (target stands, targets, ammo,etc...) for very economic pricing and didn't feel gouged at all. They welcome patrons bringing targets (granted they fall under their use guidelines) but also provide cheap but adequate stands that work perfectly with their mounting rails found at the 25/50/100 pistol/rifle range (they have metal rails that will allow you to drop in the wooden stakes that make up your target stand). The $6 stands are made of wooden stakes and carboard with two black/white targets printed on the cardboard. My stand has lasted me (2) ranges sessions so far with any loosening of cardboard to wood easily remedied by using the staple guns they provide on site (one is hung every 2-4 stalls). At the longer rifle range(s) that do not utilize the rail system for target stands, they provide hammers and steel spikes so you can easily create a pocket in the dirt to drop your target stands into (the rail system is not on the longer ranges). The range itself was adequate for me. I don't have much to compare it to other than the free-for-all open BLM land I shot at a few times before deciding I need a managed ranges to work on my shooting without the fear of person who aren't being cautious enough about safety while shooting at open BLM land (Hodge Road). On my first visit, I shot at the 25/50/100 pistol/rifle range. On my second visit, I shot at the 100/200 rifle range (they also have a 100/200/300 range for longer shooting at the far left of the campus - this longest ranges does NOT have sun cover). On both visits, I saw families with younger shooters present. It seems as long as the kids are closely managed, no one from the range had any problems. I would recommend this range to anyone in the area. SOME NOTES FOR A FIRST VISIT: 1. The proper entrance to the range office faces the shooting range (do not use the rear entrance). 2. Fees for adults are $16 per day/per person (as of March 2016) 3. Empty Chamber Indicator flags are required on the range for ALL firearms (any you have at the ranges). If you do not have them, they sell them for $1 at the range (in the office, AND range officers also have them on hand at the ranges). 4. The shorter ranges have rail systems that allow you to easily mount their $6 target stands. I take mine home so that when it does finally fall apart, I can easily make my own versions. 5. They sell additional targets in the range office (targets that have bright colors to highlight your hits on the targets - different versions). These can be staple onto your stands. 6. They seem to be ok with any legal type of firearm. I've seen lots of AR's, .223, .308, shotguns, handguns including calibers up to the SW 460 mag (which was terrifying to be right next to when it was being fired). Their website says they allow up to .50 BMG (assuming it is grandfathered into compliance in California). 7. They offer an annual "waiver card" for $3. What this does is allows the repeat patron to bypass the filling out of a form for each visit. Typically, without the card there is a modest amount of paperwork to fill out PER VISIT. With the waiver card, you can bypass the paperwork for a year (from date of purchase of the card). I recommend getting this card if you decided to frequent this range as it will get you to the tables faster. 8. They offer open shooting lines (no tables, no cover), covered areas with short tables, t-shaped tables for bench shooting, a couple of longer/wider tables. Cover is on some (but not all) of the ranges. Chairs or box stools are provided for each table or bench. The benches are wood on steel standards (no cement benches here). The longest range (300yd) has no cover/shade and every 100 yard increment is elevated higher than the previous. 9. CASH ONLY! read more
