6/10/14 Manfriend and I came for date night and of course it was not too crowded on a tuesday night around 9pm for dinner. We took advantage of the nice weather and sat outside on their patio. The hostess and server were both welcoming and prompt in greeting us and taking our orders. If you are a lover of german beers, you are sure to fall smitten to their pretty impressive beer list- so much to explore! I know we both fell smitten. I ordered a Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier (I know I can never say it lol but it's one of my favorites) and boyfriend ordered the Stiegl Goldbrau "Pimp Can". Yes, he ordered it because it came in a pimp can lol. We were hoping to try their warm Bavarian pretzels that everyone raves about but unfortunately, they were out. sadface. I definitely have to go back and try those. They are also known for their mussels and serve them in a few different styles which all look delicious and quite a steal at their happy hour. I definitely have to go back and try their happy hour. For our dinner though, I was feeling meat so I ordered the Steak Frites which included a 10 oz. hanger steak, fries, and arugula salad with accompanying béarnaise sauce, ketchup and another garlic mayo sauce. Steak was perfectly cooked rare per my request and practically cut like buttahhh. Béarnaise sauce was light and creamy and lemony and delicious. Fries were crisp and golden brown and got alternatively drowned in either ketchup or their garlic mayo- yum . Arugula Salad was light and refreshing in some sort of lemon dessing with sour capers. I was very happy with my choice. Manfriend chose the Bohemian Sausage Platter which included Thuringian, Cervelas de Lyon, and merguez sausages, with pork belly, herb spätzle, kraut, beer jus, lingonberry. He enjoyed it so much there was not a crumb left and I was lucky enough to get a bite and it was quite tasty. Lyon Hall was a great pick for dinner. Great Beer, food, and staff. Will have to return for brunch, happy hour, lunches, and more dinners. read more

I have been wanting to try Lyon Hall for several weeks and I finally made it out for brunch today! I was really pleased with EVERYTHING. I ordered a latte (heavenly) and the egg white omelette, my boyfriend ordered the London Calling cocktail (delicious and a great brunch drink), the smoked salmon poached eggs (he said it was amazing), and we split the doughnuts (nutella, cinnamon, blueberry, and strawberry). The doughnuts were all really good and so was the bread basket! I was really impressed that Lyon Hall makes their doughnuts and bread in house as well as cheese and charcuterie. Service was friendly but a little slow, however, it was brunch so we weren't too upset. I'd love to come back for dinner and maybe a cocktail during happy hour read more

This place looks very nice on the inside compared to its outside appearance but is very expensive for what you get. They do have a happy hour every day from 3-7 with pretty good mussel prices. I ordered a random beer off the menu and it cost $11... I think that's the most I have ever paid for a beer. My husband chose right and his only cost $6. Overall good selection, high quality drinks but I was a little upset about my beer price. read more

Really good beer. Pretty good food, I especially like the frites. Dining upstairs is a better option if it's available, as you can hear yourself better. Very happening happy hour and bar area. Crazy bathrooms, as you wash your hands, you can see into the bathroom of the opposite sex as they too wash their hands. It's bizarre if you've never experienced it before. read more

For some reason it took moving away from Clarendon for my husband and I to realize that Lyon Hall is one of our favorite restaurants. It is now our go-to place when we're nearby. I'm not sure where to start. Everything we have ordered has been delicious (with the exception of one bizarre summer cocktail that involved celery spirits of some sort - oof that had some tartness!). The mussels - awesome. The steak - juicy. The gnocchi - little pillows of air that practically melt in your mouth. But most of all, the beet salad. I am not sure I can express my love for the beet salad. This is despite, or maybe because of, the fact that the beet salad changes slightly with each season. Sometimes it's roasted beets, arugula, goat cheese, and chickpea squares (which are indescribable little toasted croutons of mashed chickpea). Sometimes it's roasted beets, arugula, and blue cheese mousse with candied walnuts. Sometimes there's fennel and oranges. But whatever combination is currently on the menu, it should be ordered. Every time. read more

Went there for dinner. This was our second time there. Nice place, friendly staff and good service. The food we ordered was good. The grilled shrimp salad (avocado mousse, quinoa, arugula, honshemiji mushrooms, grapefruit, garlic vinaigrette) was delicious. We also had the pâté (apple-shallot chutney, whole grain mustard), but it was only OK. Our entrées were the hanger steak frites (arugula salad, béarnaise sauce) and the Scottish salmon (peas à la française, bacon, shallots, herb butter). Our favorite was the salmon, although the wilted warm lettuce was a complete turn off--the bacon made it tasty. We also had good cocktails. If we lived in Arlington we'd go there regularly. Make sure you check out the bathrooms! read more

Ok this place is very good! The decor is modern retro industrial. The exterior reminds me of the movie Metropolis. We had serrano ham/swiss chard/piparde broth mussels for an app. The mussels were tender and I wanted to drink the broth. I give that three noms out of four only because I could use more ham. Next we had Hungarian Lamb Sausage with warm fingerling potato salad/ramp aioli/black pepper vinaigrette. Wow! Four noms noms noms noms for this slightly spicy but balanced dish. It was excellent. I had pork schnitzel with dandelion/white asparagus/brown butter-smoked paprika jus/warm potato salad with quark. This was very interesting with deep earthy taste (good earthy, not dirt!). I give this three noms for flavor and sophistication. The wait staff and mangers are knowledgeable and helpful. Ok so they messed up an order but they fixed it and offered us a desert. Mistakes are ok if the staff is caring and attentive. You will wait on a table on a busy night, that just comes with the territory for a new place in Clarendon Only negative comment. I know Clarendon has the young interns and professionals, but club/beach weeks music pumping at a place with a fairly sophisticated menu is not acceptable. If you're going for hip, then be hip! Give us some elctro-lounge, jazz, or a sweet DJ that knows their stuff (no not I like big butts or mindless thump) give me something that fits the flavor like DJ Neekola. Use some local talent I look forward to coming back! Another hit for the people who brought you Liberty Tavern, Northside Social, Buzz and Rustico. read more

This place is pretty good, but not fabulous. I went here last weekend for Sunday brunch and thought the menu options were pretty unique. I ordered the burger and asked to substitute the fries for a vegetable. When me food came out (it took a while longer than I was hoping), the burger meat was SO FATTY. I could only eat half of it and grease was dripping off of the bun. The roll/bun was a poppy seed potato roll (yum), and the burger was served with ketchup and with delicious grainy mustard. The server also brought out fries for me instead of the vegetables I asked for, but I was so hungry I just let it go and didn't say anything. The server was actually really good (aside from forgetting about my vegetables) and seemed like he was genuinely happy to be at work for the day. He was helpful, refilled our drinks constantly, and made good suggestions when we were ordering. I would go back again for sure... but if my food is super fatty next time I will think twice about ever visiting for the third time. read more

This place is a gem in Arlington. I stopped by on a business trip and loved the venue. Great ambiance Great food Great people After hours they bring in a DJ which adds a very fun and lively environment. If you are grabbing dinner here, do try the Scallops. They were ridiculously tender over a bed of sweet corn and salty bacon. It was heaven in my mouth. I wish I lived in the area to dine there more often. read more

When it comes to dining choices in Clarendon there are so many choices out there. The one place I will always offer up first will be Lyon Hall. The food is great with their Alsatian twist for everything. It feels so rustic and communal. Sharing plates just come naturally. There house made charcutirie is always dead on. You have to attend their special dinners that they have once a month(approx), here you will find a theme dinner for about $75 per person including tip and drinks. One of my all time favorites for dining options in Arlington. Their bar is open late as well and can always count on a stiff drink for a good nightcap to finish out the night. They always have a themes going on in the bar area so check out their Facebook page to get the lowdown. Happy eating! read more

Another great restaurant run by the group that owns Liberty Tavern, and Northside Social. The food is great, I enjoy their hamburgers, and they also have fresh tasty oysters. One of my goto item's is the genetically altered shrimp...okay I don't know if the shrimp are genetically altered but they are big, and cooked well, too often places turn shrimp into rubber crap. Like Liberty Tavern they have one item which, if we were in prison I would take my homemade knife aka a shiv, and stick it in your back to get a taste, is the Duck Foie Gras Sausage. I'm not big on desserts, but my girlfriend would probably shiv me for any one of their chocolate desserts, or creme brulees. The only reason it only gets 4 stars is that sometimes the service can be forgetful, and the hostess at times are just average. read more

I came here for a company dinner. Pro: Good for groups Great beer selection ( especially specialty Euro beers) Friendly and knowledgable wait staff Dessert - warm beignets with ice-cream were absolutely delicious Cons: Expensive Entree- I got the vegetarian pasta selection and it was quite bland and unimpressive read more

Went here with a friend and really enjoyed the meal, the wine, the service. I had the Steak frites and a Pinot noir. She one of the sausage dishes. We were both pretty happy with the meal and the environment. The only thing I'd call a negative, if it's even that, was the over-attentiveness. Drinks were topped off every 10 minutes or so, which isn't bad, but it became an in-joke where we tried to count down when they would come back and touch us up. I would definitely go here again and bring friends too. Has a nice, bistro style and friendly, attentive staff. read more

Docked a star because of our original seating, which was complete bs. It would have been four for the food. This place is fabulous- it reminds you of a small NYC cafe on the inside. The food is also incredible. We had the pretzel (thank you yelp check in!) to start, which had raclette fondu that is so delicious- get it. The bread is fresh and the rye is doughy and delicious. Highly recommend. I had the beet salad with the dressing on the side. It was ok. You'd hope for chunks of beet, not super thin slivers. Kind of a bummer. Mom had the French onion soup which was by all accounts, delicious. Dad and mom had the pork schnitzel- consensus was that it was dry and just ok. Sis in law loved her burger. Brother had steak frites and felt like he won the table lottery. I had the scallops, which were lovely, but a few salty and unclean pieces in one was a disappointment. Squash purée was lovely. Here's the kicker: service is a bit pretentious. And STAY AWAY FROM THE HIGH TOPS! They claim it's just a high top, but it's stuck between two extraordinarily loud service stations. You can't even hear yourself talk. It's also stuck between two doors. They didn't tell us this when we made our reservation and we complained. We were moved upstairs, but the owner was extremely snooty about it and said we only had an hour. Overall, for 25 bucks a plate, you can do a bit better. read more

Food was so good! Definitely have to order the mussels here. I had the pork schnitzel...it was so good! I got to try the bourguignon, and the beet salad. As an avid yelper, and i check in a lot :) i got a free pretzel appetizer and it was sooo good! The pork schnitzel was delicious, prepared very well and very tasty. The love the fact that this place doesn't have a TON of things on the menu. The items are priced very reasonably, and I guarantee you're going to love what you order. side note - if you want an intimate dinner, make sure you make reservations on the second floor dining area, but if you're going for HH or with friends, you can hang out at the bar area, beware-it gets REALLY loud. The DJ definitely keeps this place hopping! read more

I have eaten there twice and loved the food. They also have pretty good Cab Franc, which is a rare find on the wine menu everywhere else... Never had any problems with staff and service. Everything was very good! Will definitely be coming back! read more

Awesome burger! Plus the beer selections are awesome! Also, the mussels are a must try. Lastly, I just want to point out that this place on a Friday night can be quite active. There's a DJ in the restaurant who plays a variety of music as you dine in, drink and mingle with people. read more

Headed here for a late Saturday brunch with a party of five adults and two high chair sitters - I can say that this place is definitely kid friendly (at least at that late hour). Our party was pretty slow to order, so beware, the brunch menu ends at two! Lyon Hall has a large selection Belgian and German drafts and bottles, and a few American crafts that mimic those styles. Pretty much something for everyone. They also have some larger 750 ml bottles to share, if you can't decide. Tasty donuts. Relaxed ambiance. Brunch ends at two. Liked the pretzel roll, but not enough schnitzel. Sausage, kraut, and eggs were good. No complaints on the burgers. Service was relaxed and patient. read more

Great outdoor patio with plenty of shade, dog friendly, prompt and attentive - but not overly in your face service, incredible food. Our top 3 fav Clarendon brunch spots now include Lyon Hall (sister restaurants Liberty Tavern and Northside Social completing the trio). read more

Lyon Hall - Twist on the classic eggs benny. Croissant, jambon, perfectly poached eggs, pea shoots and hollandaise. - Brasseries Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

One of our favorite local spots, this feels like a cute little french bistro and is run by the same group that runs Liberty Tavern and Northside Social. The steak frites are really great, with some of the best bearnaise sauce I've ever had in a restaurant. Bread is fantastic. Drinks are good. Good beer selection. read more

This place is your typical run of the mill Arlington bar. The food is decent, but the dinner menu is definitely better than their brunch. The drinks are standard, albeit overpriced even for Arlington standards. My wife and I met the owner once, and he seemed like a great guy. However, a couple of his staff should not be in customer service. We were here late one night (11:30 p.m.) and it was fairly quiet in there, but the bartender gave us a snippy attitude when we asked for another round...apparently was more interested playing on his phone. Another time at dinner, our waiter came over with our entrees but we still had not received one of our appetizers. When my wife asked if he was going to bring our second appetizer, he responded "I only have two hands" - Sheesh! This place is nothing to write home about, but worth checking out if you want a quick bite/drink...just don't recommend overstaying your welcome unless you want to experience pretentiousness from staff who think they are holier than thou. read more

Greeeeeeeaaaaat Happy Hour! We sat outside and had a very enjoyable time at Lyon Hall. We shared several appetizers (Provencal Mussels, Pommes Frites & Seafood Ceviche) and sat outside on the patio during a nice August afternoon. The food was amazing! The server was friendly, and very prompt at ordering and following up with us. I also drank the signature cocktail drink, "The SJF", which I really enjoyed. Looking forward to returning soon! read more

I really wanted to like this place but after coming here a few different times I think there are much better options in the area. The food is fine, not memorable but nothing offensive either. However the service is sloooow. On two different occasions we sat for 10+ minutes before anyone even came to the table, eventually having to go find someone to take our order. For the price point one would definitely expect better. read more

I like some of the beers they have on tap here and the fact that the are still there when I go back weeks or months later. Some of us actually like continuity when it comes to beer that we would like to drink again and again instead of constantly rotating taps where it winds up being hit or miss. The house made mustard here is AWFUL. Seriously. I'm a mustard expert and I can tell you it stinks. Sometimes the bartender is nice and sometimes there is a selfish spoiled college graduate that has still yet to get the concept that their job is to serve customers and not ignore them. read more

The food was amazing as well as the martinis. The waitress I think her name was Julia she was absolutely phenomenal very attentive to our needs along with the rest of the staff and apparently they have a new chef! I had the steak tartare appetizer and then moved into the rainbow trout entrée. I can say is they were wonderfully plated very tasty and the temperature was perfect, hot but not enough to scald your mouth on the fish and I adore the fact that steak tartare comes with potato chips homemade in house, so if you haven't been here in a while definitely go back and check it out. read more

A party with great food. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was presented wonderfully. That's a good start for a new place. With two bottles of wine (45% of our cost) and multiple appetizers, entrees and desert, dinner for two with $200 with tax. The dishes were all at least good, some were quite excellent. Some of the dishes need some tweaking. On the excellent side - pickled sardines, pickled mackeral, poached halibut, duck fat fries. The Burgundy snails were too spinach flavored with an iron-like flavor. The black pudding had too much dandelion greens in whole strands that were a challenge to cut - the concept definitely works with the bitter greens balancing the rich pudding; I would have prefered a bit more pudding. Get a reservation, the place was slammed!! read more

First visit was a 3 star experience, but I'm willing to come back and explore more of the menu. Came here for dinner. Had a beer flight as I'm not very knowledgeable on Belgian beers, but I could appreciate the variety. Someone in my party had a bottle of Hitachino Nest White Ale, so it's not just European brews. Charcuterie was great - get the duck prosciutto! Pate was also good. For the entree, I had the skirt steak frites and asked for it medium well - medium well it was! And it was tasty. Nothing extravagantly fancy about this dish, but I wanted simple. Service was wonderful. Our waiter answered all our questions and offered suggestions well. Next time, I need to try the duck fat fries and the mussels. I like the interior of this place. Really cool. And the bathrooms, too. read more

I recently met a friend at Lyon Hall for lunch. It was very pleasant and enjoyable. We visited during Restaurant Week; they had a fantastic Restaurant Week deal for $20, but it was just a bit more food than we wanted at lunch time. The space was open and bright, and, despite what seemed to be hard, reflecting surfaces, the noise level was pleasantly low. I had the steak frites, and both the steak and the frites were cooked to perfection. My friend enjoyed the Pork Schnitzel Sandwich. Along with lunch I had a very nice Malbec from Cahors. Lyon Hall has a good, but short wine list, both by the glass and by the bottle. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse; delicious and reminiscent of France. The service was efficient but not rushed or intrusive. Unlike many DC area restaurants, they did not hover to grab our empty plates as soon as one of us stopped eating (a major problem in this area). Instead, they asked politely if we wanted the plates removed after we were both obviously finished; and they asked if we would like to continue to enjoy the bread. I highly recommend this restaurant. After I told my wife about my lunch her interest was piqued an now I would like to return and share Lyon Hall with her. Try it. (Disclosure, I also posted this on TripAdvisor) read more

After about 5 or 6 three star experiences here, I have finally had a reason to revisit my review. Had a very nice dinner here, including two cocktails, an appetizer of Mussels (plentiful and delicious) and very nicely cooked main courses (pan roasted chicken was excellent.) The service was good, efficient and non-intrusive. The best part, which I came to realize only with the help of my NYC based friend, was the total bill. Extremely good value for the quality of food and strength of cocktails. I stand by my earlier assertion that this is not really a fine dining experience, but if you are able to adjust your expectations slightly this is a very good option for a nice dinner in Clarendon, and its position just slightly off the main drag helps it to to avoid that young 20s, soulless, yuppie crowd. read more

I was excited about an Alsatian restaurant and was pretty happy with Lyon Hall. We had a pretzel appetizer which was actually pretzels in stick form, not what I would deem traditional German style pretzels, but good nonetheless. These came with three wonderful dipping mustards. I had schnitzel and sauerkraut with bacon, which was quite good. Overall, the experience was not as good as I was expecting, but I think that's because this place is hyped so much in the local literature. read more

Had the mussels pho. It's their take on pho. Also got pickled vegetables & pretzels. Both where pretty good. The few things that can bother you... It a small place & parking can be tough. I've been by here five times now. It's really a great mix of high quality food and Clarendon's best beer and wine selection. Late at night the place can get pretty packed and sorta difficult to get service, but it's far better then most the college/sport bars around Clarendon. Take a date here for dinner, grab brunch, or just chat with the great bartenders. Try the awesome wines, ciders, and craft beers. I've not been disappointed. For such an overpriced area, where a low grade burger and beer at a sports bar is $25, they give you a much better than average value/quality ratio! read more

Wonderful find on a business trip. They had a nice alfresco seating available, however we sat inside. A DJ played music that wasn't too loud. That was a nice addition. We went on a Monday, $1 oysters day. They were small, but tasty. Beer selection was good. Service was wonderful. Sea bass was fabulous on asparagus and mashed potatoes. Steak was done perfect. read more

Went here for brunch on Sunday. I got poached eggs hollandaise with smoked salmon. It was very OK. The croissant it came on top of was very chewy, making it hard to cut and eat with the delicious stuff on top of it. I found it mildly overpriced (2 meals + 2 non alcoholic drinks came out to about $40). The service was verrrrrry OK. Waitress clearly not happy to be there, gave us the check as soon as she took away our plates. Despite that, the service was quick and the food came fast. read more

You ever have one of those places that you occasionally go to, but always leave thinking well that was just meh? This is how I feel every time I go to Lyon Hall. The one dish I ever loved there (ricotta gnudi of my dreams!) is no longer on the menu. Often, it feels like their dishes are doing too much and are overly fussy for no reason. The menu changes occasionally which is interesting but I've been enough times to know I'm probably just not going to be able to order the same thing every time. The bread and butter they give you is good. Bavarian pretzel is great. Fries are good. Drinks are better than average. The other food is just ok. Not terrible, just not anything to rave about. Brunch seems to be better than the dinner offerings but it's very cute and would be a good date spot. read more

One of our friends invited us to this restaurant, so I did not really chose to go to this restaurant. I am very glad that that friend decided to choose this restaurant. Unfortunately I became very ill. May have been the mussels. Used to really enjoy this restaurant

Good food, great service and decor. The food only gets a "good" rating from me, but I should add that I don't eat French cuisine all too often. I was actually surprised that a good bulk of the menu was made up of sausages. It was fair to moderately priced with most entrees around $20. The decor had a nice open cool feel. Probably the grey metal, pale blue and dark wood colors with high ceilings. Although once the place gets full it can be quite loud. The service was friendly and attentive. read more
