My friends and I went here for brunch. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves. I love a bistro. Everything from the feel to the food makes me feel continental and nostalgic for my time in Paris. Lyon Hall has a nice ambience with lots of versatility in its seating: indoor, outdoor, near a window, booths, high tops. We had the beignets to begin and they came with a dipping sauce (pumpkin crème anglaise-seasonal). The beignets themselves were piping hot and perfectly flavored. While generally pillowy, they were doughier than I typically like. The dipping sauce was light and lovely. For the main, I had the Croque Monsieur with fried egg, so technically a Croque Madame. Generally, I enjoyed the overall dish. Temperature, texture, and flavor were all right on point and the egg was cooked perfectly (which, believe it or not is difficult). The béchamel was flavored well, but would have liked more. The dish would have been too dry if it weren't for the runny egg yolk. The salad was a nice sharp compliment to the Croque Madame and brought balance to the overall dish. (It felt like a very classic bistro dish.) The service was good. We came here for a weekday Happy Hour, and we ordered the following: +a full dozen of the Oysters on the Half Shell - these seemed a bit smaller in size, and the oysters could have been more fresh; they had a slightly fishy taste to them +the Warm Bavarian Pretzel - served with 3 dipping sauces: a smoked cheddar fondue, honey butter, and dijonnaise; the pretzel could have been more soft; the honey butter was good, but didn't seem like a good complement to the pretzel; I did like the dijonnaise the best, but it could have been more thicker and creamier; the smoked cheddar fondue was grainy and was super bland to me +Smoked Brisket Dumplings - topped with sauerkraut and a coffee grind barbecue sauce; these come with 4 and seemed to be deep-fried; the coffee grind barbecue sauce was a sickly sweet and tangy sauce that just didn't complement the dumplings at all - I thought it totally ruined the dish +Vin Blanc mussels - prepared with garlic, creme fraiche, shallots, parsley, and spinach; the mussels were very large-sized (like the size of your big toe, really!), and I was surprised at the full order amount it came as for a HH order; there were some broken shells and some sand, which was a big no-no for seafood; there was an option to add pommes frites, which we did; these were hand-cut fries and could have come out freshly fried, as they were served lukewarm +Tinola-Style mussels - prepared with a ginger broth, spinach, shredded papaya, and shishito peppers; the ginger broth was flavorful, and I preferred this over the Vin Blanc version; added pommes frites to this dish as well The mussels came with a basket of crusty bread, which was great to sop up the broth! We knew we had ordered with our stomachs, as we could have just stuck with 1 order of mussels to share, as well as just added one of the pommes frites. Our server was Pedro, and he was nice and attentive, checking in with us throughout our dining experience. For HH, you can sit at the bar or at the bar tables. Not sure what the eatery can do, but there was a large pesky fly that was flying around, which was icky. I have passed by this restaurant so many times and for some reason didn't think to try it until my parents made a brunch reservation for us a few weeks ago. We loved it and I'm so glad we found a new brunch spot! The food was great. I had the steak frites and literally stuffed myself because I couldn't stop eating. I have to give props to Lyon Hall for their takeout game during the pandemic. They've become my spot for to-go mussels and frites; I'm a fan of the white wine mussels. The fries are a generous portion and taste great, especially reheated in the air fryer or oven. The burger is also a favorite dish of mine, and it travels well for takeout. And I also like ordering a baguette to enjoy with my meal and the next day or two. Came here for their Winter 2022 Restaurant week, which was extended an extra week for them! I wanted to make sure I came for their restaurant week, which typically I find worth since it's their entire menu, and I wasn't disappointed! It was three courses for $40 per person, with sides being able to be substituted for dessert if you're not a sweets person. Appetizer was the French Onion Soup. I absolutely love their French Onion Soup with the melted cheese top and the soup on the bottom. Very tasty and quite filling for a soup too! I got their seared scallops for the entrée, and even though it looked rather small, it was very filling. The scallops were bigger than I imagined. The sauce they used throughout the dish was so delicious too on the veggies and the black rice (the rice was surprisingly super tasty). I got the cassis gateau marjolaine for dessert. The cake and buttercream compliments with the raspberry sorbet well. It wasn't my favourite dessert, but still good; not too sweet although it was a bit too thick in texture for my preference. As much as I hate to give bad reviews, this one is not going to be a good one. I was here last Saturday and we ordered three desserts and coffee, just for an afternoon snack. We wanted to try those three desserts and just do a sort of tasting, because we often have fun with it. As you can see in the pictures, they didn't look bad, and it seemed like a lot of effort was put on the preparation. However what I appreciate in a dessert is the flavor, and these were really bad. Not only did they taste like those packages you can easily find in a supermarket and prepare at home (contrary to any hope that they'd be freshly made in the kitchen), we also felt heaviness and cramps in the stomach for the rest of the day, after eating them. We haven't tried any other food, so I won't speak for the rest of the menu. But if you can, order dessert somewhere else, when you're done. The atmosphere was nice and friendly, and our waiter kept making sure that we were taken care of, which I appreciate a lot. However I'm definitely not coming here anymore. read more

While not our first time in Lyon Hall, it was the first time we've dined inside AND for a special holiday menu. I must say that the prior experience we've had at Lyon Hall was present; solid table service, great menu options and a pleasant environment. Being Thanksgiving, we made sure to have our reservation well in advance. While we were there mid-afternoon, I wouldn't say that they were slammed, but steadily busy. Obviously on a holiday, one needs to celebrate with a good cocktail to start off with. Our group chose to start off with a twist on two classics, My Mom's Manhattan and a Paper Plane to Paris and a newcomer for us, the Arc 'de Triomphe. Both of the classics were terrific, the Manhattan with a splash of Cointreau and the Paper Plane sporting Cardamaro. The Arc was a unique and tasty treat-starting with a vodka base and rounded out with spiced pear purée, allspice and lemon juice. So nice it had to be tried twice! In a bow to the holiday, they had a special Prix Fixe Menu that has an abundance of options. The 3 course opportunity had such a wide variety of appetizers it was truly hard to choose from. Ultimately our party went with the Oysters on the half shell, Shrimp Cocktail and the Charcuterie Plate. We also started with an add on of their delicious Pomme Frites, which we had experienced on our earlier visits. The rock star of the apps was the Charcuterie Plate that had 3 different meats (Chicken Pate, Bresaola, Saucisson Sec, toasts along with cornichons, and plentiful pickled veggies. Don't get me wrong, the Oysters at Lyon Hall are worth a visit in themselves and the shrimp were on the extra large size, but the Plate made it a great start. For entrees our party went with the Traditional Turkey Day option, the Pork Chop and the Duck Breast. The star of the three was the duck, beautifully prepared large portion of duck confit, in a la'orange sauce over lightly sautéed kale, black Venus rice, and a braised salsify. Oh my goodness, it was delicious. The Pork Chop too was outstanding, perfectly cooked in a pan to the right temp accompanied with bourbon sweet potatoes, braised mustard greens, in a whole-grain mustard demi-glaze. The traditional Thanksgiving option, White turkey meat with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with almonds a small side of cranberry sauce, bread pudding stuffing and turkey gravy didn't disappoint, but arrived as a lukewarm option, almost as if the kitchen thought pre-prep of that meal as an afterthought. Tasty, but just not a knock-out. At this point, dessert was not needed, but included, so our group powered through a Creme Carmel, a very unique mini-pumpkin pie and the ice cream. While the last option was billed as home made ice cream and sorbet, the sorbet wasn't present, but instead featured 3 ice creams. All were fantastic but the Pumpkin pie made as almost a tart, had a wonderful maple flavoring and whipped topping that made it delectable. Likewise the Creme Carmel had a fruit compote in a apple cider cake based with a salted caramel wafer. The only deterrent to being a perfect experience was being seating directly under a blowing vent that kept our party chilled. With the restaurant mostly full we didn't feel it appropriate to request a reseating assignment so we were much more expedient about the length of our stay; an after dinner apertif was something we usually enjoy, but we skipped that this time to avoid the continued chill. Our advice is don't be shy to mention this to your server, so that you'll have the perfect experience at a great restaurant. read more

The standout dish was my wife's steak tartare, which was pretty perfect. The French onion soup was decent. My salmon was done well. The mussels were a particular disappointment, because the sauce had a heavy cream aspect, which made the dish much heavier than normal. Mike enjoyed his chocolate torte for dessert. The portions are surprisingly large. I am not a huge eater but still I took home half of my beef bourginon. If your meal doesn't come with fries get them for the table. They are crazy good. I tried their Tuesday Lechon in the menu today after seeing that they offer some Filipino dish at this place because their chefs are Filipino! I got super excited because I don't have to travel far to get a taste of Lechon. We ordered it online and picked it up in person since this was not in their Ubereats and DoorDash menu. My verdict. The flavor was good. The quality of the pork belly was good. They are generous with the portion. It reminded me of the Philippines. The vinegar sauce that came with it was great as well to cut through the fat and grease. The entree came with white rice and salad. Some things that can be better: the pork skin should be crispier. I understand that they probably started roasting this hours earlier prior to dinner time which is why the skin Is chewy. What's the point of Lechon if the skin isn't crispy? I suggest they determine what may be the issue why the skin isn't crispy. It was really a turn off and a bit disappointed when I bit through the skin and it wasn't crispy. I hope the chefs take this feedback and find a way to keep the skin crispier because that's the true essence of a great Lechon. Traditional yet refreshed French food right in the heart of Clarendon in a gorgeous setting. Every part of our dinner was phenomenal with some clear standouts. If you like escargot don't skip it here- the portion is generous and their method of preparing it is packed with tons of flavor. The crab bisque was so flavorful and I loved the large portion of fresh crab. For dinner my husband and I both opted for the special of the day- roasted duck and it was great. The sides the duck were paired with were just okay- but the duck was the star of the show and made it worthwhile. The tartare was exactly what I was craving and our reason for stopping in- 10/10 execution and accompaniments. For desert we had the bread pudding which had a fun method of presentation but to no fault of the restaurant we couldn't try it as we were absolutely stuffed from our amazing apps and meal. For us, a must-order if coming for brunch. - Hanger steak tartare: a flavorful tartare needs fat, acid, and salt. We felt this tartare lacked the salt element, likely because they serve it with potato chips which are already salty. Unfortunately, the chips overpower the tartare, so if you order this we recommend spreading the tartare on the French bread that comes with your meal instead. - Wild mushroom and bacon omelette: French omelettes should be custardy. This one wasn't. Otherwise, it was okay but nothing special. We liked the salad more, and felt it would've benefited from pickled carrots for acid. We then ordered the warm pretzel. It had poppy seeds which I thought was weird but my friend loved it's it came with 3 sauces- a hot honey butter, a cheese, and a white Dijon mustard. All were good. My friend liked the honey butter best. I ate most of the cheese but the Dijon was great but it wasn't yellow. How is mustard not yellow?!! We split two salads. A Caesar and the beet. The Caesar was better and had white anchovies. The portion was bigger. The beet was good too. I got the branzino but substituted coulidlower for carrots. The fish was delicious. Fresh. Gone way downhill-- I visited Lyon Hall for the first time in four months since I moved out of state, and the food has gone way downhill. My boyfriend's filet medallions were rare instead of medium rare, my seafood pasta was in a slimy and muted sauce with an overcooked quail egg. The food seemed like it had been under a heat lamp for some time. I used to come and enjoy their crisp martinis and fresh, flavorful food, but tonight left much to be desired. We also got a mixed greens salad that was good and fresh. For the mains, we ordered the Seared Scallops, Grilled Branzino, and the Grilled Berkshire Pork Chop. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their plate. The grilled branzino was pretty good and cooked well - but I think the favorite was the scallops dish! The pork chop had hearty portions, with a good amount of sauce that allowed the rest of the dish to soak up the flavor.
