This is a beautiful office with a helpful and gracious staff. Dr. Madan is sympathetic and knowledgeable. She had much more to offer me then the first dry eye specialist I saw. The IPL treatments helped a lot and the IPL tech is thorough, knowledgeable, and really takes her time. I sent a friend who has burning eyes for years. The other doctors she waited months to see offered her no solutions. But after one visit with Dr. Madan (and following her treatment plam), her eyes are not bothering her at all! read more

I've been going here for years and the after service has just dropped dramatically. My latest glasses (get this) cost $1,900, and came with one lens delaminated, and without the promised 'bonus' sunglass clip on. I pointed this out, and while the staff were friendly enough about the defect/omission, it took weeks longer than it should have to get both problems sorted. I guess my bigger issue is why were the very expensive glasses not thoroughly inspected before passing to the client, and why aren't things like extra clip on sunglasses noted on customer files for other staff to refer to? Lenscrafters next time. At least I'll not go in expecting A1 service! read more

Nice and office and polite staff. However, get ready to pay an extra $68 for each child (this is after the MSP coverage is factored in). Most Optometry clinics have a $30-40 fee per child. This was not disclosed when I booked the appointment for my four children. Do yourself a favor and find another clinic that charges reasonable rates for children's eye exams. read more

Toddler had a red, swollen eyelid, and this clinic had same-day availability, so we booked an appointment. They warned ahead of time that there might be a charge for the visit, but with three kids and numerous medical visits to optometrists over the years, we have never had to pay out of pocket for any medical stuff - it was always covered by MSP. After a 5 minute exam, which concluded with advice to use a warm compress a few times a day, and come back in a week, I was told we owed $65 for the visit. This was IN ADDITION TO what was covered by MSP. They also tried to sell me an overpriced hot compress headband. For my toddler. With a tiny head. Some specious justification about how it's so much better than a drugstore hot compress. Anyway, I was super put off by being charged $65 for that very straightforward 5 minute appointment, when MSP was already paying. We won't go back. read more

Dr. Shajani is one-of-a-kind. His knowledge and care for a persons's vision is incredible, holistic, and beyond anything I've ever experienced in my 40 years of working with Optometrists. Abusive. My mom, a senior citizen, gets her eyes examined by Dr. Brassil at LVO. She's very professional and kind so my mother appreciates her and likes going there. Recently, she was called in to pick up her glasses she had them make. The receptionist gave her an appointment time but when she got there on time, they told her she needed to wait an hour because they weren't ready. Why did they call and tell her they were ready? They didn't like the fact that she complained about them setting up the appointment just to make her wait, so 3 different ladies harassed her by asking her "How are you doing today?" every 10 minutes while she sat waiting, like a tag team. After an hour of needless and aggravating waiting, they sent her home with her expensive new glasses. She tried them at home and realized the focal point was off on one side. They had not checked this before she left. Unbelievable. My mother went to pick them up the second time after recovering from a major surgery. They knew this but when she walked in, she was greeted very enthusiastically with, "Hello! How was your holiday?!" The front of house is only interested in getting your money and no concept of providing a pleasant service. The ladies working the front don't understand that they were hired to provide a service to the people walking through the doors who provide them their pay cheques. Their "service" is out-right abusive. Their workmanship is shoddy and they don't have a system to prevent mis-haps that aggravate. Don't go here unless you're looking to be bullied and to have an exceptionally bad day...and an expensive pair of glasses you can't see out of. read more

Really unsatisfied with my experience with Lynn Valley Optometry. More like a dollar sign than a valued client. Felt totally pressured into my purchase, they tried to totally upsell (overcharge) me for a simple prescription, took a month to fulfill my order (and probably would've taken longer except that I called to find out what was taking so long), and I ended up with a mediocre pair of glasses whose arm screws constantly come loose and require tightening every several days. Everyone from the front desk gals, to the Dr...to the wonderful girls who helped me choose both sets of glasses. Yes, two sets. Everyone was kind and helpful. I picked up my first pair, a progressive lens SHAW to be exact. Love, love, love. Outstanding service. Had an eye exam performed by an opthalmologist elsewhere with recommendations for a pair of progressives, but the lenses were frankly unusable. I came to Lynn Valley Optometry to sort it out, as my daughter goes there for VST, and I'm glad I did. Dr Shajani redid my refraction exam and came up with a different prescription - the right one. He also listened to my particular needs for a set of office glasses (I work with multiple monitors at a longer focal distance than most folk) and those are fantastic. Eye-strain is much reduced, and I am happier; that pair of glasses is worth every penny. The staff listened to what I wanted from my glasses, helped me pick out the right frames from a great selection, and had the experience and knowledge to make everything work. I also got a usable prescription - you'll need to drag me kicking and yelling to go anywhere else for my eye care from now on. read more

I don't usually write a review, but when you have an experience like I did, you want to tell anyone you can. I have struggled with my vision and my dyslexia for my whole life. From the moment I walked into Lynn Valley Optometry I felt that everyone really cared about me. They were warm and kind, the clinic is beautiful, and they even treated me to a nice coffee while I browsed around before my exam. Dr Shajani took time to really listen to me, and educate me about my eye health. The exam was thorough and informative. He showed me a picture of the back of my eye, and even discussed special exercises I could do with my eyes to benefit my dyslexia. He even found that my prescription for my lazy eye could be decreased to sharpen my vision at work. Amazing! Dr Shajani was friendly, didn't rush me, and made the whole experience so enjoyable that I forgot it was an eye exam. After the health and vision testing, he took special care to explain products that would work for me, and boy was he ever right. The lenses in my new glasses give me such excellent vision, I don't take them on and off like I did with my old progressives, which were top of the line when I bought them. The staff were so much fun, carefully considering different fits and looks, and examining me from all angles to make sure they were perfect. I bought two pairs, and the sunglasses are so clear they feel bright and sharp even though they cut all the glare. Thank you! read more

I have been going to LVO for the last 15+ years and have always really liked Dr Shajani. My husband's glasses took well over a month to come in which was annoying but was really grateful that Dr Shajani stepped in and went out of his way to give my husband a free pair of glasses that held him over until his lenses arrived. He's always been very personable and is a really great eye doctor. HOWEVER, his staff are not putting a great face to his company and it's extremely disappointing. They gave me the "sorry, not sorry" approach when my husband was out of glasses for over a month and I wouldn't have been really helped with tracking down where his glasses were unless Dr Shajani stepped in. I bought a pair of glasses in 2016 and they've been breaking with a known manufacturing problem. I went in a few days ago after they broke for the 3rd time and wasn't even greeted when I walked in. After waiting for 10 minutes I was finally told the manager and the optician went for lunch... they just walked right out of the door beside me as I was waiting for help. So I ended up waiting for over an hour for them to come off from lunch only to be told by STACEY, the policy-driven new "clinic director" that the warranty might not be honoured and that the glasses had no known problems. When I mentioned that the receptionist told me of problems when my glasses previously broke she said, "she's just a receptionist, she wouldn't know what she's talking about and besides she doesn't work here anymore and I'm making the policies now." When she said that, it really didn't sit well with me. It made me mad that she doesn't see me as a person, doesn't honour what I've been told in the past, and I was more than horrified to see that's how she also saw the receptionists. Kind of makes sense how I didn't recognize a single face there anymore. I am really not happy with the inconsistency and rude service, especially with her, and am not happy that I spent $900 on glasses when I could've gone to any random retailer and spent a fraction of the price for. You'd think they'd at least be able to stand by their brands. I asked her if I could talk to Dr Shajani because I know how friendly and helpful he always is, especially with my husband's issues, and was told "he's too busy and won't be able to talk to you". I even offered to sit around and wait for him or make an appointment only to be told he's too busy... right. Thanks for the boot in the ass, LVO. Sorry you lost a loyal customer. Look no further, this place is fantastic! After years of looking for a solid, caring and efficient optical practice, I have finally found one. I have been to optometrists on four different continents and Lynn Valley Optometry is up there with the best. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with courtesy and respect. A beverage while I waited was not even necessary as I was whisked into my appointment EARLY which is unheard of. I'm used to waiting and waiting for an appointment that had long passed its booked time but not here. Not at Lynn Valley. I came in for a routine eye exam as well as to ask about a problem I was having with my eye even though my previous optometrist said it was nothing. Dr Leung was thorough and carefully explained every step of the way what she was finding. Her eye exam was spot on and her diagnosis of my eye issue as well. She referred me to an ophthalmologist who was fantastic (even though my previous optometrist said it wasn't necessary, and as it turned out there was something urgent to take care of) and answered every one of my questions with patience even though I was probably paraphrasing them over and over again. Once my appointment was complete, that wasn't the end of it. I had SEVERAL follow up calls to see how my eye condition was and to see how my ophthalmologist appointment went and whether I had any other questions. Every single staff member was fantastic. Rebecca, Athena, Crystal, Michelle K and even the other student optometrist were amazing! They should all be proud. I live in Vancouver and the commute to North Vancouver was completely worth it. After probably a decade or more of using Lynn Valley Optometry for the family I am jumping ship. While service is very good, they have become expensive and in silly ways. I just went to book my eye exam and they said the charge would be $149 and included a consult with the contact lens specialist. I have been wearing contacts for 40 years, the same ones from Lynn Valley Optical for many years and said I didn't want a contact consult. They said the charge is the same. The industry standard after doing research is $90 - what is covered by extended health. Next, I wanted to buy two boxes of my contacts - their price $87.09, Clearly Contacts, 70.99 and Costco 59.99. I am sorry to leave but competitive they are not. read more

I ended up meeting with the owner of Lynn Valley Optometry recently and he apologized to me in person and explained the steps he was taking to improve his team's customer service which included a two day seminar. I'm pleasantly surprised with the action Dr Shajani has taken here. I had not expected so much from a simple Yelp feedback. During the meeting, I expressed to him how customer service is a lot more than simply being polite to the patient. It's also being able to "anticipate customer needs" by observing body language, tone etc. He seemed really receptive to my feedback. Lastly, he also offered me a refund for my last exam and a $100 gift certificate which I greatly appreciate. I'm glad I took the time to meet with Dr Shajani, and I can tell from the conversation I had with him that he is really customer focused; however, what I have experienced from the opticians is the opposite, so I'm happy to hear Dr Shajani is taking steps to help his team grow and improve. read more

I brought our five year old son to Lynn Valley Optometry for his eye check up. Upon walking in, we were surprised how modern and nice the decor was. We were greeted by the staff which truly seemed happy to be working there. Dr. Shajani gave my son the eye exam and he was very good with him. What impressed us was the exam looked at total eye health. In the past, our optometrist only looked to see if we required glasses. My son does have nearsightnedness and we will be going to try the vision therapy program to hopefully help him. I will definetly be going back for myself. read more

I started going to Lynn Valley Opt last year and it's almost a pain in the butt to go there. My second appointment was 45 min late, with no bother to mention anything until I went up and asked them after 20 min. I have never had an eye apt on time, usually a 10 min wait, even in the morning. I returned for an eye infection this year. The dr could not take my prescription properly as the infection had altered my vision. I returned a week later and the machine told me that my vision jumped from -5.5 to -7! We both agreed that we didn't think it was that bad so she guesstimated that my vision was at -6 now (uhhh, why wouldn't I just wait until my meds were finished to check?). Every time they try to push these eye drop on me, I buy them but have found that Shoppers Drug Mart is cheaper (I understand markup but we all know Shoppers is even expensive). read more

Your vision will get better if you choose this place -- by far the best optometrist/optical centre I have found in Vancouver or Toronto. Well worth the trip from downtown Vancouver. Dr. Shajani takes the time to explain what is happening with eye strain and blurriness and is always on the side of improving vision rather than simply overprescribing. My nearsightedness has gone down since coming here. They invest in top of the line equipment and are always researching and staying on top of new developments. Good clinic and technicians but even though MSP covers anual kids eye exams they charge $70 as a copayment. When I asked they said it had to do with my extended health insurance. Then I asked another lady because my oldest is seven and I have never been charged and she treated me in a very condescending way telling me to look at my bill and then she told me she was not feeling comfortable with me !! Then I talked to a third person who was more empathetic but told me that the exams there were more detailed and extensive and doctors really care for the patients so maybe that was the reason for the charge, or it could be related to the maximum allowed bu my health insurance. After leaving I checked the reviews and other people complained about the same charge as there are many other clinics that do not charge the copayment. They should let you know in advanced and when asked should be open about it instead of trying to lie to people pretending they don't know anything. Both receptionists were nice until being asked for the bill and then they treated me as if was doing some wrong by asking or it was too bad I didn't have money to pay for it. Very upsetting experience. Definitely not going back. read more

I found Lynn Valley Optometry in an ad in the North Shore news advertising vision correcting contacts. I made an appointment for my 13 year old son and was very impressed with the process for identifying whether the system would work well for him. During the initial exam Dr. Shajani asked questions that I found to be quite different from other optometrists that we had visited. I was very impressed by his thoroughness during the exam. I then brought my other two children for regular exams and he identified visualization weaknesses with my daughter (who had been diagnosed with a learning disability). He explained the vision therapy program and we decided to give it a try. At the time she started the program she was a consistent "c" student. After the therapy she is now almost a straight "a" student and plans to be exactly that on her next report card. My older son is enjoying freedom from glasses and is thrilled. For the other family members we enjoy the comfort of knowing that we are getting the very best care and trust that should any problems arise they will be quickly remedied. read more
