After looking at urgent cares and…read morefinding none I looked at local pediatric offices not expecting an appointment late in the day. I was thrilled to locate one to my hotel and an office reviewed so highly. I called the office and spoke to the receptionist who was extremely professional and caring to my out of town situation. Although short handed with the doctors nurse practitioner off they squeezed my son in within 15 minutes. Upon arrival our insurance was accepted and forms completed. The office staff was exceptional and wonderfully efficient and had us inside with the nurse in 10 minutes. The nurse swabbed for influenza which was suspected. Doctor Barry came in within 10 minutes and had a warm bedside manner. He took his time with my 13 year old son and treated him like his own patient. A complete exam was administered as he waited on the results. He discussed with my son why he was in town, which was a swim meet. The results came up over his iPad and were positive for influenza A. A prescription was written for Tamiflu since he only became symptomatic today. He discussed the medicine and the typical time of recovery. He also discussed his weekend swimming schedule limitations. Dr. Barry also prescribed me Tamiflu as preventive since we are in closed quarters at the hotel. I cannot recommend Dr. Barry enough. If he treats an out of towner this well can you imagine being his patient. A big 5 STARS and thank you!

I love that they have where you can call in & speak to a nurse about any questions or concerns you may have about your child. All of the rooms in the office are decorated in different kid themes so that they are less 'scary' to the children...& give them something to focus on other than the scary doctor! Only thing that I dislike about the office is the waiting area. It's very small & although they have a 'well visit' & a 'sick visit' side...your still really close to each other!

She has a calming presence for the overly worried new mom, and address the questions/concerns with importance no matter so nominal they may actually be. She's always been timely which isn't an expectation at a busy office, but is nice, especially with kids in tow. The office staff is also very kind and welcoming and their 7 days a week hours as well as an ability to work you in fast/select walk in appointments is such a convenience!

So if you're child experiences side effects such as depression or anxiety from medicine they prescribe rather than properly having another outside source help before administering medication, they will go ahead and prescribe mental health medications without a mental health diagnosis from a mental health professional. They will not work with outside sources outside of their practice for mental health/psych services because its "messy". Also, when seeking a second opinion my child was removed from their practice without my knowledge until I followed up with concerns/questions about medicine that was prescribed and was told they weren't required to answer my questions because my child wasnt an active patient. All they want to do is get their write off. In my own personal experience with this practice for my child, there had been no compassion or empathy within their practice. It's medicine, medicine and more medicine.

She addresses our concerns, is willing to explain things in depth, and spends extra time with us if we need it due to questions. It also helps that she calls our daughter "perfect" every time we're there but that's just because I'm a proud dad with a perfect little girl. We're moving in a few months and we will be sad to leave NRV Pediatrics behind. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and make every visit as much of a delight as a doctor's visit can be. I highly recommend going there as your first pediatric choice in Blacksburg.

They provided no further communication that there was an ongoing issue, and we were surprised to find we were unable to make an appointment for our sick child when she needed to be seen. The providers are wonderful. The front office and billing staff is the worst I've ever experienced. I would not choose them to provide care based on the wall of problems we've run into since their acquisition. Sad, since they used to be wonderful.

Our neighbor recommended Piedmont Peds. This practice is good for availability, but the more we…read morevisited, the more we needed to visit. After visiting my child and I in the hospital, the physicians performed experiments on my newborn and I in its office following her first vaccination in ways that are not standard in new infant care in other states, without cause or communication, and it was quick to order tests without logic on my children to charge our excellent insurance plan, scaring my child and slowing our progress as a family to its advantage. The nurses are good, administrators are pretty good, but the NP's and physicians do not like self-assured, educated mothers who know their rights and sought to undermine as a distraction from surgical malpractice the first year in the region. Contributing to defamation, this practice caused social discrimination through social engineering and science in places like libraries on other mothers with children, and in my career in the community. It took every opportunity to triangulate between my daughters and I. It tried to generate an economy inviting our social connections to town, but also tried to make value judgements on our educations, experience and professions forged in other states, while encouraging a culture in medical society of ethnographic research using our family, as has historically been Virginia's and UVA's medical orthography, including historic precedents of eugenics. The outcome was trauma and hardship and otherwise we are very close. If you have a specific need for a child, this is not the practice for you. If you are the mother of an infant, I would not recommend this practice. If you only need vaccinations and well-checks for teens in sports, and you are Christian and have a positive church affiliation, this practice is ok.
