I ordered a Lyft to pick me up at the airport. The driver's arrival time kept getting longer, so I called her. She had been circling the airport to figure out how to get to DCA's lower level. This went on and on. I called her twice; she asked me for directions. I tried to cancel the ride, but I couldn't see how to do that in the app -- probably bc the app showed that she had picked me up (which she hadn't). She finally cancelled the ride. I ordered another Lyft. This time the driver showed up, but I was ultimately picked up later than I would have arrived at my destination had the first driver known how to get around the airport. I wasn't charged for the first ride, but a driver should know the basics of airport pick up. It would also be nice to be able to cancel rides more easily. read more

Very Dishonest Business; the additional star is for my experience with some of drivers who were nice.. Lyft in DC thrives off of it's misleading business practices all around. I wanted to believe that they were working out kinks, or that there were mere inconsistencies but it has become very obvious that this is not the case. The following points have lead to my conclusion, disappointment and frustration: 1. I live on a very busy street in NW and intern in a busy area in NE every-single-time I have ordered a Lyft it has arrived 15+ minutes after the ETA. This is at least 8 + times. I have written their non-existent customer service to complain, (as one time the ETA was 6 min. & the car arrived in 34 min), only to be told by two Lyft drivers to call my driver to get the real ETA after requesting the car. This not only defeats the purpose of the app, but it is misleading and lures customers into opting to take a Lyft over another ride-sharing service that quotes a later time, or over flagging down a cab. I realized that this wasn't a mere off estimate or unpredictable traffic issue, when drivers who work for both major ride-sharing services confirmed that I should go with the other if I am in a rush, and confirmed complaints. I of course took their advice after I was LATE, depending on a Lyft. THis isn't a kink--- I have never had the issue with the other major ride-sharing service & have used them 3 x's as much & lyft is using similar app technology, ...fraudulent. 2. The Lyft ride starts to charge you a minute before it arrives, (to keep drivers from waiting etc), so if you get an inexperienced driver who does not know the area and goes to the wrong location to pick you up, i.e. a hotel instead of a rental car place two units over on a one-way highway, you are charged for his "lost" time. This happened to me. Took the driver 7 minutes under my coaching to make it to my location & the meter ran the entire time. He said his GPS showed two locations. Luckily, he was very nice & ended up making it up another way so I did not have to go through their non-existent customer service to get a weak explanation. Sneaky and dishonest to say the least. 3. As another yelper posted, I recently received not one, but NUMEROUS texts and emails stating that free rides were added to my account. Luckily I didn't blindly believe them & take the rides, and after checking to find 0 free rides'each time, i I contacted customer service,( through their only means..on site message) & asked to be called by a manager. Lyft DRIVERS replied, telling me I had tried to re-register prior to getting the fraudulent emails & that the new rides were only for new customers. They were so confused. After 2 weeks of going back & forth I was offered 1 pathetic 10 min. ride. Unacceptable. I (Same thing happened to my classmate but he didn't bother emailing). 4. Last straw --- recently received a promotional offer from Lyft to complete a survey and get 5$ off of a ride, at the conclusion of the survey was told that a promo code would be emailed within 48 hours...a week...no code. Where's the code Lyft? [pics added above] I would like to believe that these are all kinks or careless mistakes. However, I do not believe that a business that is thriving and dependable in it's origin state, is this messy here. Lyft is pretty clearly on its way out. Everywhere you look, there's cost cutting, to the point that customer service is now non-existent. Call the toll free number and it simply directs you to a help site that is extremely limited in the help it can offer. if you have one of the few problems it can help you with, you can send an e-mail. I should warn you, however: Don't hold your hand on your knee while you are waiting for a response. The skin will graft before you get one. read more

I am a fan of Uber but when Lyft had their promo for 10 free $20 rides it was an offer I couldn't refuse. Long story short-- I should have refused. I used a ride yesterday and it said it was a 14 minute wait from my location in Alexandria... okay, cool. Then it turned into 19...Then my driver called with barely any English asking if I wanted the ride now... or later? Whaaa? So needless to say I was 30 minutes late for my event. He even pulled into traffic without looking while pulling out of my neighborhood which was scary to say the least. My next ride was solid-- no complaints. He just dropped me 10 minutes down the street. I gave my promo code to a friend and her Lyft driver said she was fired from Uber and wasn't a good night driver and she almost hit cars as she complained they were in her blind spot... Not okay. Out of 3 rides, two were utter failures and the one solid ride was barely 5 minutes. Lyft isn't worth my safety in exchange for free rides. I haven't used Lyft in a long time--preferring to stick with the known quantity of Uber. But the last time I used Lyft, about a month ago, it was terrible. The driver never showed, never answered his text or his phone when I called to ask where he was. I wrote to Lyft to complain and they said I hadn't "updated" my Lyft app and basically it was my fault. I'm a tad skeptical--all my apps automatically update, and even if it wasn't updated, it was basically the same app. So, it's Uber for me when I need to get somewhere. read more

The drivers are nice, my issue is always with the company! One thing that really irritated me was how they never payed me my 200, i reached out to them by email more then 10 time i still never got payed for the event i worked. i just would like to get the money they owe me and the customer service is very bad. i talked to someone that worked the event with me about this and they never received there payment as well, so if you are in Washington dc "DO NOT WORK FOR LYFT THEY WILL NOT PAY YOU" its a scam read more

I wish I could give a zero stars if that was even possible. So recently, Lyft has been running their "refer a friend to Lyft and both of you will get a free ride up to $20" deal. I referred a friend. He let me know he used it (the night of) saying how awesome it was that he got his first ride free. I also got an email confirmation from Lyft that he used it, and that $20 credit had been added to my account. I looked in there and didn't see it. I figured maybe it will take a day to show up. I checked again - still nothing there. I have been emailing back and forth with customer support, and they claim that while he entered my referral code, he never actually used it and therefore, I am not entitled to the $20 - which is why it is not yet in my account. First, my friend assured me he took a ride. Secondly, I received an email confirmation from Lyft that he used it. Now they are telling me he didn't? Are you really that cheap Lyft? This nickel-and-diming is really unacceptable. I've never had many complaints about them until recently but this is just ridiculous. I would highly urge anyone to to steer clear of Lyft and take your business elsewhere. Also, I would like to note that if you have a complaint with Lyft their customer support is terrible. They will take AGES to get back to you and drag their feet every time they reply with empty gestures that don't really address your concerns. STAY AWAY! read more

Warning: Watch your bank credit card statements very carefully if you use this service. A few weeks ago, American Express alerted me to an attempted theft charge of $95 in California and I live in VA. The only possible connection is through this service where charges were processed in San Francisco. When I contacted Lyft customer service and alerted them of a possible thief in their data processing centers, all I got was a robot response that I should contact my card issuer to get the money back. Obviously, the rep did not even read my email in detail. Thank Goodness for AMEX in preventing the charge from going through and received a replacement card. Of course, No proof that it is Lyft but I canceled the account and watching my statements more carefully now. read more

After my driver dropped me off, I was told that I was a no-show & they would charge me $10! In addition, my driver didn't look before going on 2 occasions (a very short drive), & blew through a stop sign. Disappointed. read more

I was emailed a 50% off promo. I took a ride from Friendship H to Arlington and the ride and driver were decent. However, I was charged full price. When I contacted customer service, they said that I made a mistake and there was no promo for the date I rode. I sent an email back with the promo email attached. No response. I've tried Lyft on 4 different occasions and I much prefer Uber. I had a ride charged to my account that I didn't request and it took 6 weeks to get refunded. On 1 occasions the driver was talking so much he missed his turn and the ride ended up taking longer than it should, and on the last occasion, the driver pull into the round-about at apartment complex, while another care was already parked there, and when I got in the car, it was close to 6 minutes before the actual ride started - he was unable to get around the car, which he should had known that when he first pulled into the round-about - he could have back out of the round about, instead he kept trying to get around the car .. it wasn't until the driver of the car moved his car, that we started the ride .. meanwhile I'm got charged for 6 mins of sitting in the car. As a veteran i began with Uber. When Uber was illegal, they treated us great. I claimed $82,000 on my taxes that year. I was making avout $50/hr. When Uber became legal, they drop prices by 60% , i moved to lyft. Lyfts customers are more pleasantt and so os the company (minus trying to reach customer service). They give us perks, tips, and options for bonuses. We still make shit now and days just like Uber, bit the incintives that are in place helps. read more

The driver went to the wrong location & started the trip, when I figured out how to call from the app, he would not come to the correct address. My device clearly indicated he was 2 blocks away. I canceled the ride I got charged more than the ride would have cost to complete. Uber showed up within 2 minutes and as usual we were in route immediately. I will not stray away from Uber again no matter how many "free" ride" codes Lyft drivers peddle. Oh and my $50 free ride credit didn't apply to driver error. read more

I almost got hit by a Lyft driver this morning speeding in the parking lot at Market Place in Bowie. She was rushing to take a handicap space for herself not a passenger. The response I got now was "I did check the ride you took with Sidaty on 02/17 and apparently you took it at 7:21 pm so the reason why the credits did not apply because your credits expired on the same day but at 12 am. Regarding the ride itself, if you could tell me the actual pick up and drop off locations I could recalculate the ride and make any adjustments necesarry." So why was my ride at 5pm to the location where I was ultimately picked up from at 7:21, free. Last time I checked, 5pm was 2 hrs before 7pm and both still before midnight. I used to really like Lyft (and despise Uber as a company), but the last few months rides have been cancelled, significantly late, and horribly lost (not to mention cars reeking of cigarettes). Lyft SUCKS! I had a driver that could not read SW from NW and just didn't know the city. It took him forever to get to my destination and once he saw that I was going to give a bad review, he cancelled the ride. I think drivers should at least have a general idea about where they are going and this one didn't. I actually got out and just walked to my destination. I won't be using this service again. I tried Lyft today for the first time after a referral from an Uber driver who also works for Lyft. He sent me a link for 10 free $10 rides. I was very impressed with the driver, Jahirul. He is a very kind man-he waited for me while I did my shopping and didn't charge me! He also keeps his car immaculately clean and stocked with mints and bottles of water. I will definitely use Lyft again (and hopefully have another good experience). read more

The system repeatedly asks for verification codes, there is no clear place to order a ride...and I should have read all the negative reviews first. I cancelled my account. Their app is harder to navigate than uber which is the first negative. Secondly the primarily focus of their advertisement is that the first ride you get free, but yet they dont automatically deduct the $20 credit you receive for the ride instead they charge your card. And lastly if you have something to dispute you ar unable to just reply directly to email stating your bill like you can do with uber you have to go to their website and hope that someone reply. read more

Bottom line, it's not a reliable service and overpriced to boot. Over the course of less than a week I've had to cancel and re-request 7 rides because the driver begins moving away from me after the request. The time estimate always starts at 3-5 minutes and gradually increases to around an 8-minute estimate, meaning I'm standing there in the street waiting for 15-20 minutes. My last ride took 17 minutes to arrive and the screen said the entire time that the driver would arrive in 3 minutes. I ended up arriving late to my Very Important Event, and the metro would have been about 5 minutes shorter. The prime time wording is a little deceptive as some people don't realize 150% does not mean 1.5 times the cost, but instead is 2.5 times the original. Not to mention that the system constantly is in prime time and way up-charging, so forget about getting a Lyft on the weekend or when it's raining. A traditional taxi is a better alternative in that situation, if you can find one. Also on the issue of false advertising, I have received a couple of emails/text messages saying the service is currently discounted in the 15%-35% range. When I used the service, I was charged the regular amount. Not a very good feeling! The constant $5 'free ride' that Lyft gives out definitely does not mean a free ride as the cost is already inflated over Uber's price and the minimum appears to be more than $5 (after the extra fees they tack on). It's a bit annoying that this is marketed as a 'free ride.' Finally, while most drivers have been courteous with decent cars and driving ability, it's quite common for them to either take a longer route than necessary or to get a little lost, thus prolonging the trip even more. With more and better drivers, an upgraded software platform that gives the actual time till pickup (and time till arrival), and less frequent primetime surge charging, this would be a solid 3-4 star service. Until then, sadly, Uber is the only reliable game in town. read more

After calling for a Lyft on Nov 12, 2018 I was watching the App on my phone and it appeared that the driver was quite a distance from me in another town. I called him to verify that he was coming and explained that the App displayed him in another town. He became very rude and said that I should not be watching the App. When I asked where he was he snapped at me and said, if you don't like it cancel the trip. A few minute later a message appeared on the Lyft App that the driver cancelled the trip. That also erased any history on my end. When I attempted to report this driver to Lyft they said they could not ind the trip. Lyft is very difficult to communicate with and the App needs a lot of improvement. I started riding Lyft during a January promotional. As of today, July 1, 2016 I am no longer a Lyft passenger. I have had dozens of unauthorized charges on my credit card from Lyft, at least nine trips where the Lyft driver did not show, and a recent Lyft trip where the Lyft driver went 6 miles out of the way, and instead of turning around and going the way the GPS and I were asking, she ended the ride and I took a regular DC cab to my office. From a safety standpoint, there are several Lyft drivers here in the Washington DC area that are being investigated for various things, so being in a car alone with a Lyft driver may not be the safest thing ever. If you care about personal safety, whether your banking information is being compromised, do not use Lyft because eventually it will happen to you. One of the most poorly run, dishonest, and dangerous companies out there. read more

Lyft is a horrible service compared to Uber or anybody. They asked for 50 percent more 2 days after a snowstorm. Their drivers and cars smell like smoke and alcohol. Uber really has their act together much more than Lyft. A company should be judged on how it does during a crisis. Lyft failed. My kids were sledding and I was going to try Lyft just because Uber was taking a little longer than usual. I'm both a Lyft driver and rider. On the rider side, it's been pretty good. Except the company doesn't tell the driver where the rider is going until they arrive to pick them up. This is a problem as it violates the rights of drivers, and as a rider I have been turned down for airport rides before. I'd prefer the driver knows where they'll be going so it's a fair deal and an honest brokering. Also, as a driver, Lyft harasses you if you do not accept every ride request. It's quite annoying, distracting (while driving) and hostile too. I often get requests that say 5 minutes away and when I accept I plug it into google maps and it says 8 minutes away. Then I cancel it and get more harassment from Lyft. They lie, and I get harassed. Great way to hold onto drivers right? And also, I'm not going to take ride requests that are more than 5 minutes or 2 miles away because Lyft doesn't compensate for that time. The person may be going a short distance where I'll just get $4, so I will absolutely not drive far to get to them because of the chance of that. If I knew they were going far, and it was worth it to me, maybe I would. Anyway, both Lyft and Uber need to make drastic changes in how they deal with their workforce (drivers) in order to be better ethically, functionally, etc. read more

Without adding all the details, I am not satisfied with their customer service, as I had a terrible experience which included 1 1/2 hours to get home from Dulles to NWDC (after an international flight that I was exhausted from) due to the driver taking on a another passenger that took us 20 minutes in the opposite direction! Did I mention the driver also stopped for gas and that I needed to give the driver cash for a toll that was unnecessarily arrived at? C'mon Lyft, you can do better than this. I contacted Lyft to become a driver, I wanted to rent a car from them, gave them $250. Deposit. They sent me an email after 2 days : all requirements are fulfilled, I am approved to pick up a car at one of their stations 20 miles away 2 days later. Upon arrival nobody was there to attend the booth, another person there told me he was waiting for 45 minutes already. After also waiting and checking I left. Tried to find a phone number for Lyft, in vain! Sent them an email, no response. Not able to speak with a person. After having my deposit for one and a half weeks I finally got to talk to someone who told me I reached the wrong person, would give me a phone number for car rental, but instead to supply the phone number he hung up on me! I had to call my bank to get my deposit back. Until this happens they had my money for 2 weeks, causing also expense for going to a fake appointment! Bad experience be aware!!! I recently took my first Lyft ride after years of riding with Uber. While the driver was great, the pricing policy is neither transparent nor simple to calculate cost. The 150 percent ride is not 150% of the estimated cost, but the estimated cost PLUS 150%. They then add in a "Trust and Service Fee." The total cost added up to over $47 and 260% the estimated cost. I don't mind paying extra for busy times, but pricing needs to be transparent and simple to calculate. read more

I switched from Uber to Lyft because of Kalanick's ties to Donald Trump. I have since used Lyft 3 times and each time I've had different complaints. 1. The first driver was pleasant but he chose to use a slower route than the one I suggested he take. Always listen to the passenger! Then I was amazed when he took out a container of yogurt and a spoon and started to eat while driving!! Not just when stopped in traffic but when his hands were supposed to be on the wheel! 2. The second driver was taking me home from work during rush hour and traveling north on I-270. This driver stayed in the local lanes rather than the HOV lane. There's a point after the exit for Route 124 (Montgomery Village Avenue) where you must merge back onto 270 from the local lanes. At this time of the evening that merge lane just crawls. We were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for 15 minutes. Had the driver used the HOV lane instead, I would have gotten home quickly. When I asked him why he didn't take the HOV lane he said that his GPS directed him to use the local lanes. WTH?? If you don't know the local area enough to know not to use local lanes during rush hour then you have no business driving for a living. 3. The third experience was this morning, getting a ride to my work. Standing by the curb outside mechanic's establishment, I see my driver on the opposite side of the street. I wave frantically and he does not see me. He proceeds into the parking lot on the opposite side of the street. I had to call him and verbally direct him to my location. I provided the street address when I scheduled my ride. The number of the building was clearly visible from the street and I was standing right in front of it. I got into the car and asked the driver whether he uses the street address provided to match up to numbers on the buildings. He said no, he doesn't. He said he uses GPS and the GPS directed him to across the street! Then when we finally got under way, he couldn't quite figure out where to go. I told him to take 270 South. We got on the highway and as my exit approached, I told him: You'll need to take Sam Eig Highway. He says "okay" but doesn't get over. I keep telling him, "Get over, you're missing the exit!" He keeps pointing to his GPS and says, "Do you see this? It tells me to go to the next exit." Again with the GPS! I told him, "I have driven this route every day for years and your passenger is telling you the best way to get to where she needs to go. You don't ignore that in favor of your GPS!" He tells me the GPS knows where to go. I say sure, if you want to put more miles on the ride and get me there later, use your GPS. If you want to drive intelligently, you listen to your passenger who knows where they are going. He proceeds to tell me that I'm rude. He could not find me without my assistance, he could not figure out how to get started on the route we were taking without my assistance and when I provided him directions he ignored them but I am rude. I don't plan on going back to Uber unless Kalanick changes his affiliation with Trump but I am also not going to use Lyft. It's either public transportation or taxis for me. Just thought I'd make you guys aware, if you ever thought driving for Lyft was a good idea don't bother. First of all it's just not a good job to begin with. You have the drunken underbelly of society barking orders at you while attempting to scan you for signs of emotion with which they will then use against you in their little review. As if it's not enough already that your lives are in danger for multiple reasons starting with just driving itself but now you have someone on a judgement trip breathing down your neck. I literally have had occasions where I am physically assaulted by a drunken customer and then suspended on top of it by Lyft. Only to have to defend myself and state that not only was I the victim of assault but I didn't even call the cops on their passenger as I should have. Only to then be re-hired. Forget it. What a terrible experience. You would not believe the madness you have to juggle every single day and every day I am amazed that I survived it. And these people are going to talk to me like this awful work is too good for me? Please. outta here And now I was just fired from Lyft after 3 years of employment and what was I told the reason was? According to them it is because after 3 years of employment and 3 background checks, I am being fired after 3 years of employment and on the 3rd background check for something on my record from 20 years ago. I called the background check company and they confirmed that was the reason for my termination and also advised me of a pattern that they noticed where Lyft will fire drivers after a few years of employment due to something on their background, apparently no matter how long ago, even after letting them work after having the same background check pulled. I recognize the bigger picture of what is going on here and how it is I and we are being taken advantage of. First of all what is on my record is not a complete description of the event. It is a one sided attempt to vilify me. Secondly it is from 20 years ago and I have had no other events like that since. This is a form of discrimination based upon incomplete perceptions in the first place. Where are all of my good deeds throughout life on this background check? It seems to me that there is no escape from the label of Villain when there is an entire parasitic system waiting to prey upon you. I think we need to start keeping a background report on these companies and their employees. Etch each and every one of their mistakes or intentional crimes into stone, never let them forget it and actively hold it against them for the rest of time. read more

I purchased a group of ten discount coupons that were supposed to give me $5 off any ride I took before October 27, 2017. Worked for one ride, but not the second. Apparently, Lyft has some small print that limits what type of rides qualify. Bottom line: I do not trust Lyft anymore, and won't use it in the future. read more
