Luxury Pillows is unique in that it sells Luxury Pillows exclusively. You need a pillow case? Sorry, you've got the wrong store. Neck pillows? No way! Travel pillows? Get lost! How about a leg positioner pillow? Try again! A boyfriend pillow is what you seek? Seek somewhere else, Clarence. The success of Luxury Pillows hinges on that Luxury Pillows sells one thing only. And that one thing is luxury freaking pillows.
However, dear reader, there are subtle ways in which this luxury pillow shop is so much more unique.
Firstly, the last reviews of this establishment were in 2006. 2006! What were the biggest trends of 2006? Vlogs? Borat? Truthiness? 2.0? (Ed note-- if you're saying 2.0 in 2014, think long and hard on that) Bratz dolls? Gnarls Barkley? WMDs?
2006 was such a long time ago, the average rent in San Francisco for a 1-bedroom was around $1500. Ancient history.
How could it be that the last review of this store --a block from Polk Street --on the corner of Union --with the word LUXURY in its name --be written eight years ago? What is going on??
In the years that I have lived next to this store, dear reader, I have never seen anyone inside of it. Not one customer, not one shopkeeper, not a cleaning man or cleaning woman. Not in the morning, not in the afternoon, not in the in-between hours.
The Mahatma Gandhi Luxury Pillow (tm) that was the centerpiece of the Dads & Grads 2013 Window Display was also front and center for the Christmas 2013 Window Display and too was the central theme of the Valentine's Day 2014 Window Display. Odds are, the Mahatma Gandhi Luxury Pillow (tm) will lead through Black History Month and dominate the St. Patrick's Day Window Display.
Is the store open? Is the store not open? Is the store not not open? Is this merely a front for something more sinister? Is Mahatma Gandhi hiding the Russian mafia? An NSA data center? A talking lion and an evil white witch?
All I can think is one particularly fitting thing Gandhi said (about Luxury Pillows): "If patience is worth anything, it must endure to the end of time." read more
