I really wanted to love this place because it's so conveniently located for me. I went in for a dip powered manicure and they have an incredible selection of colors. Everyone I spoke with was super nice and they took me as a walk in on a Friday. When my nail tech took my old dip off she was a bit sloppy, so some of the melted dip powder got into my fingers (it's not the easiest to get off), as well as nail polish under my nails. I asked for almond but she did a rounded tip instead, which isn't a huge deal but I would have picked a different color. Lastly, a few of my nails were filed down unevenly, and a few of the tips are ragged. It was $45+ tip for the dip which is a reasonable price but I don't think it was the best job. I do think my nail tech was newer because I saw the work of a few other techs and it was amazing. I will definitely return because it's so easy to get to, but I wish I had gotten the names of some of the more experienced techs so I could request them. read more

In 30 years that I have been doing manicures. This is the first facility not to offer a massage. And/or a hot towel. And/or fix excessive nail paint around your nails. It took them 10 minutes $30 for a simple manicure. read more

It was not clean, they did not have the selection of colors advertised, they did not ask shape before cutting and filing nails and by the time I could get my hand back it was already too late because he'd cut in so far into my skin (picture). Paint was all over skin and had to ask to correct multiple times. Then the pedicure was closer to a polish change, and a bad one at that. They did not ask length before cutting (uneven even after correcting) and did not cut cuticles. Somehow I left with rougher feet than when I arrived. Had to go to another shop to redo 5 days later when they kept catching on things and the new shop asked if it was the first time I did it myself. They also said cash only as I went to pay even though it advertises cards and tap to pay on window, so I had to leave my phone to go get cash from home. read more

Experience was just alright. Pedicure did not come close to my usual salon. Bath bomb is a nice touch but the rest of the service was lacking and did not match the service description on Lux website. The price demands more than what was provided. Also, needs to be said that I found staff hygiene needs attention. WORST NAIL SALON IN UNIVERSITY CITY. They left me with my fingers in acetone for over 30 minutes. When I told them they were burning they *threw* me a nail file to buff it of myself?!? Then when asked why she did that all of the techs tried to ~gaslight~ me and say that she'd never do that even though i was HOLDING the file all confused. After feeling ganged up on, I tried to ask them if they would just finish taking off my nail polish and let me leave. They had the audacity to demand I pay $15 upfront for them to do that. Other people tried to agree with me and what they were trying to pull wasn't right. But the techs kept just saying "no no no, it's just business". I've gone twice each with a friend and they had problems too so I can confidently say that all of the techs provide the worst customer service. Don't count on your gel lasting for more than 3 days. The worst nail salon I've been to in Philadelphia! I paid almost $100 for a gel manicure full set and pedicure (which is ridiculous in itself). After paying this much, I expected it to last at least 2-3 weeks. After 6 days, I lost a nail and my polish on my nails started peeling. I went back to get it fixed and they said if it's been over 3 days, they couldn't do anything. Then I was told that they would fix it, but I would have to pay. Why would I pay more money to fix something that shouldn't have happened? Terrible customer service. Spare yourself, save your money, and go to a better quality nail salon. read more

Lin was such a great nail tech, she did my ombré acrylic dip powder perfectly. It's not easy running a business after months of closure and the workers are working really hard to accommodate customer needs, they are booked in advance so make sure you make an appointment (and don't be late!). It's normal to wait a little bit when you get there, but don't be a Karen about it (politely remind them of your appointment and they will get started with you shortly)! You will get amazing service and love your nails if you be a polite customer. read more

Very disappointing experience at Luxe nail bar today. When it was time to check out, I was told "they do not accept credit cards on weekends and I must pay in cash using their atm" even though 30 minutes prior to me checking out; another customer paid in credit card without any questions asked. In fact, the customer prior to me left their receipt on the table with proof that they were able to pay in credit card. Disappointing that this place takes advantage of customers by charging ridiculous ATM fees on weekends. Luxe nail bar is the absolute worst nail salon I've ever been to. I've had repeated bad experiences there but had to go back because it's the closest salon. I got a gel pedicure there and within 2 hours 3 of the nails were fully off. I came back to get it fixed, and the woman was so beyond rude to me. She reprimanded me for not coming back sooner (even though if the service had been done correctly I wouldn't have had to do that). She refused to help me find a direct color match, so I have 3 plain light pink toes and the rest have sparkles. She also blamed my toe nails for the polish coming off. Awful awful awful. I recently visited luxe nail bar , and I must say it was the most horrendous experience I have ever had at a nail salon. The service I received was nothing short of appalling, and the lady who attended to me displayed an astonishing level of rudeness and incompetence throughout my visit. From the moment I showed her a picture of the design I wanted, I explicitly mentioned that I liked the design but desired longer nails. However, instead of listening to my request, she proceeded to make my nails unbelievably short. When I politely asked her to make them longer, she got super annoyed, yelling at me and insisting that she was following the length from the picture. I had already explained to her that the picture was not what I wanted, making her behavior even more unjustifiable. The way she spoke to me in such a disrespectful manner was utterly embarrassing and distressing. Despite enduring her that behavior, I agreed to let her start over and fix my nails. However, the mistreatment didn't end there. When it came time to shape the nails into an almond shape, she once again disregarded my preferences and made them overly pointy. When I kindly requested a more rounded top, she shouted at me yet again, asserting that the picture showed the same shape she was doing (which was literally not true ). This public humiliation left me on the verge of tears, but I continued because I didn't want to endure further berating. To make matters worse, when it was time to apply the nail polish and the design, she completely ignored the colors I had chosen beforehand. She selected different shades of blue, white, and yellow, claiming that they were the closest match to the picture. However, I had already explained to her that those were not the colors I preferred, as she herself had instructed me to choose the colors I liked when I arrived. Her complete disregard for my choices and personal preferences was deeply upsetting, and I felt helpless as she once again raised her voice at me for speaking up. She also told me that since I knew so much I could do it myself and so I literally did more than half of the nails MYSELF! At that point, I just wanted to pay and leave, but I was trapped in the middle of the process. When she took pictures of "her work" on my nails, even after I explicitly asked her not to, I was absolutely upset. It was clear that she had done a subpar job, as I had to fix and do half of the work myself. Yet, she had the audacity to demand a tip from me and caused a scene when the amount didn't meet her expectations. Overall, my visit to luxe nail bar was a complete nightmare. The staff demonstrated an alarming lack of kindness, professionalism, and respect towards customers. I left feeling humiliated, upset, and deeply regretful of choosing this establishment for my self-care. Needless to say, I will never set foot in this salon again, and I strongly advise others to steer clear. However during COVID times now they charge you 2$ files and don't tell you you need to buy them each time on top of your service and that needs to be cash so I was a tad mad about that. I started going to Luxe solely because of convenience and location, but it's been about three years now and they have become my go-to place. The staff are hilarious and I always end up having great conversations in addition to great looking nails. I have a habit of picking at my nails at times but each time I go in they manage to make them look absolutely perfect with some tips and dip (which I recommend trying over regular gel if you haven't already). They also have an insane collection of brands and colors and will definitely help you choose the right one if you're indecisive like me. Past reviews have commented on their long wait times, which is true because they are fairly busy in the evenings and on weekends so I'd recommend making an appointment to make sure you don't end up waiting too long as a walk-in. This is my 4th and will be my final time coming to this nail salon. So now I feel like I've assessed the service at this salon enough to know-I just get bad service here. I came in for a gel manicure and pedicure. My pedicure was rushed and my feet were touched with the lightest touch. As much as I'd like to think my feet were so nice that they didn't need much elbow grease, I know I'm not a foot model. This could have also just been the pedicure style of the technician but it left my heels dry and rough, and my toes still rough around the cuticles. So basically the same state I came in, but with a color change. The manicure started off extremely rough to my surprise, considering how lightly the technician had carried out my pedicure. When she was shaping my nails, I asked her for coffin style nails and tried to describe for her how to shape them. I ended up showing her an image, and rather than acknowledge my request or even let me know whether it was a style that she could do, she spoke to two of her coworkers pointing to the image and my nails laughing. I don't do acrylic since I have naturally long and strong nails but I knew the design is possible because I always get the nail shape. She finished shaping the nails and she was able to do the design. -____- The paint job was rushed to the point that I got the dent in my nails that happens from the technician not laying the polish properly and the polish accumulating at the tip. At this salon I usually tip 20-22%, despite my experience with the service, just to encourage the technicians to give better service next time and not approach a customer with any prejudice despite how the day is going. However, I had to only tip 10%. The service still came out to about $60. Going to the nail salon is supposed to be a relaxing and therapeutic experience, otherwise I'd just do my nails at home. I like Luxe. It is a bit pricier, but you get a very sweet experience. It's beautiful, clean and relaxing and I felt some-what pampered. I received a pedicure which cost $30...however...the massage chair worked so well and the technician was very thorough while still being gentle which I totally appreciated. My daughter received a fill and was really happy with the work ($20). I paid with cash so received three dollars off of my service which I appreciated. The place is beautiful and soft music plays while an enclosed water fall wall soothingly creates a gentle sound. Everyone was nice and accommodating and the woman who cashed us out was hilarious and cracked a few funny jokes which made my daughter and me laugh. TERRIBLE. I went in TODAY to get my gel taken off and to get a manicure. 2:15: I walk in and get my nails done. 2:50-3:15: I have dried my nails THREE times under the fan WITH the UV lamp on. Polish was REALLY REALLY thick so I wanted to make sure it dried. That's a ridiculous amount of times to dry it. 3:30: I arrive home and sit around for about an hour making sure I don't touch anything because the polish was SO thick. 4:25: I just washed and dried my hands and 5 out of my ten nails are now smudged. That's terrible and $20 plus tip down the drain. It doesn't take 2 hours for a manicure to dry. I've had problems here before as you can see from my review. NEVER coming back. read more

Horrible, terrible and very unprofessional service. My appointment was at 2pm and I didn't get someone to work with me until 3pm. I needed a removal of four nails, and wanted to get a full set. It took an hour for them to remove just 4 nails for me because she was doing someone else's nails. The manager had to mention to the worker that I had been waiting too long. After removing my nails I was told I could not get my nails done because only two people can do designs and they had appointments after me so therefore my appointment was skipped. I go to this nail salon simply because it's convenient (I am a Penn student, and it is right on Penn's campus). They do a fine job- depending on who you get. I've had nail techs there make my cuticles bleed, but I've also had techs do an amazing job. The services are pretty overpriced. When I lived in CT, i could get gels for $25, here it's $35! I feel like they are really trying to make a buck on students, which isn't cool. I'm giving Luxe a solid 3 stars because it's honestly a gamble. New nail bar thay opened up which is super great since there are not that many in the area! Walking inside it definitely feels very spacious and it somewhat tastefully decorated. Despite how spacious it is, there doesn't seem to be that many nail technicians (yikes), and I hope once business gets traffic they hire more people. Overall though, everyone here is attentive and friendly!! I got the pedicure and it was nicely done! The technicians aren't too chatty which in my opinion is good because for me I don't really like yo make conversation. If you're looking for that close relationship with your person, not sure if it was an off day but they may or may not be your people? Overall the experience was standard, nothing really stood out. Because it's on Penn's campus it is a bit pricey but that's just cause of real estate. read more

I tried to like this place so much. I tried SO HARD. I have been coming here for over a year and have been less and less satisfied each time I come. This last visit is the reason I'm writing this review. The time before this I was extremely unhappy with my pedicure; I looked like they didn't even file my toe nail. It was all raggedy and just poorly done! I was like alright, never coming back here, I learned my lesson the hard way. But what do I do a couple months later? In need of a pedicure and a bit of relaxation I decide to give Luxe another try with it being so close to my apartment. I do appreciate how hard they work because it seems like they're always busy, especially on Friday afternoons and weekends. So I sit in the pedicure chair after 10 minutes of waiting and the tech begins my pedicure. Fast forward to when she gets ready to empty the tub, she proceeds to rip the plastic tub protector with a NAIL TOOL while my FEET WERE STILL INSIDE THE TUB. Okay, why? Why wouldn't you ask me to take my feet out of the tub first? And yep, you guessed it, she cut my foot with the nail tool. Great, now I have an open cut on my foot given to me by a trusty nail tool. Who the hell knows what's on that thing. Luckily there's a CVS around the corner where I ran to get triple antibiotic ointment promptly after my pedicure. Sorry but I just cannot continue to give this place business. Although it's on the other side of town, LA Nail Bar is 1000x better and will continue to go there from now on! read more
