My sister was in town over the weekend and introduced me to my new favorite store, Lush! When I first walked in I thought it was a hipster version of Bath and Body Works spying all the rainbow colored soaps and bath bombs, but I was oh so wrong. I have very sensitive skin prone to irritation and I've tried just about every bath product under the sun. I've forked hundreds of dollars over to Aveda throughout the years and in times of desperation have found Aveeno and Cetaphil products to do the trick. Lush though is on a whole other level. All of their products are handmade and actually do what they say they will do! Honestly!! I was blown away. The employees were so helpful and gave me a mini hand treatment to let me sample some of their heavenly loot. They highly encourage you to play and sample here so go nuts, don't be shy! I wanted everything I saw, especially their luxurious ocean salt scrub and face cleansers. I stuck with two safe items though to see how my skin would react at home. An oatmeal face mask that smelt like banana bread and a cocoa butter massage bath bar with warm, soothing hints of clove and cinnamon. The ingredients in their face masks are so fresh they need refridgeration and only last 21 days. Only one use of each the mask and the soap bar later and my skin was completely transformed. No redness, no dryness, instead I was left smooth and glowing like one of the Twilight vampires. I am obsessed with these products now and want to only use them forever more. How did I live before Lush, how?! I also love that you can ask for exactly what you want. My sister wanted $10 worth of their charcoal face soap and they gladly took a brick in the back to cut the perfect amount for her. A little here goes a long way and if you keep the containers and bring them back to turn in they reward you. Bonus points earned for being an animal friendly and charitable company as well. If you haven't been to LUSH before, the first time in the store can be a little over-whelming. Don't panic. Just slow down, relax, and browse. Don't be afraid to touch, and ask how something works. The staff here are eager to share their knowledge and tips towards use of the products. While there are certain "directions," honestly there are so many alternate ways to use LUSH products, don't feel intimidated into going just one route. Shower gels can function as shampoos and the other way around, drop some Happy Hippy into your washing machine for a nice burst of refreshing citrus in your clothes...the list goes on! The biggest and best thing about LUSH is that they are an environmentally conscious company, crusading loudly against animal testing of all kinds, speaking up for and funding human and animal rights causes, and working to change the world for the better. So by purchasing their products, you're actually supporting an ethical company! To date LUSH is currently donating money to two Austin-based causes - "Keep Austin Beautiful" and the "Rainforest Partnership." They actually just launched their Charity Pot - a pot of luscious cocoa-butter lotion in which all proceeds go to Rainforest Partnership. How awesome is that?! As along-time Lushie, I'll recommend a few items to get you started, as well as some of my man's favorites, for those thinking LUSH is only for girls. ;) 1. Dream Cream - chock-full of soothing essential oils, this is LUSH creator Mark Constantine's favorite product. It's a soft, soothing lotion that has a mildly herbal smell. It's my go-to item for the winter! 2. Full of Grace serum bar - This is a tiny little solid lotion bar, created to fit into the palm of your hand. Let it warm up with your body temperature, and rub it back and forth in your hands like you would lather a soap until a nice thin film forms on your hands. Then massage onto a clean face. It's meant as a night treatment, and this item more than anything in my life has rid my face of blemishes! It's a miracle worker! 3. Ceridwyn's Cauldron - This is called a "bath melt" - it's wrapped in a cheese cloth, and contains a solid mound of cocoa butter, chamomile, lavender, and other delicious nutrients meant to calm and soothe your skin. It gives your bath a nice silky soak and helps the tension just melt away... Of course, it's hard to ignore the colorful and aromatic bath bombs - favorites include the lavender/sandalwood sweet Twilight (glitter included, beware!), Fizzbanger (apple toffee - crisp and nummy!), and Big Blue (think of a clean, clear ocean), Avobath (lemongrass). I think I'll leave this review here...really, you have to go in to see for yourself. At the very least, consider LUSH a great alternative to the ho-hum gift staples of Bath and Body Works or The Body Shop. LUSH is far more interesting and exciting, and will no doubt result in a "wow!" from whoever the recipient may be! read more

I just wanted to write a glowing update. This time I wanted to focus this review to the wonderful Mic, who does a great job, as well as Rachel. The spotlight this time will be mostly focused on their hair care: Rachel introduced me to the BIG shampoo. She gave me a sample, and wow, was it beyond any expectation of greatness that I had. It has sea salt in it and smells super fresh, which I love. When you rub it in your hair, it turns into this explosion of lather, it is like the sea salt immediately converts into lush, massively clean softness. It is amazing. Words cannot describe. You must try this!!!! I followed it up with Vianese (Sp?) conditioner for fine hair. I love the clean citrus smell. I also love the R & B leave in conditioner. It is also insanely good. Then, we explored their dry shampoo. It is called No Drought and is around $13 but totally worth it if you are into dry shampooing.... There are so many of us that really don't have to shampoo every single day. Their dry shampoo smells great and feels nice. I have super fine hair and usually wash every day but was able to use this to hamper the extra oils that build up in my small strands quickly. It was effective, even though I prefer washing my hair daily for the most part. They were all great hair products on all counts! I love the way their soaps smell in the store, but they don't always stay on me. So to resolve that, I got some Grass shower gelish item....it really smells clean. Their shower type gels keep scents longer on me than their soaps do. I love their soaps though. They also had this limited time perfume that was all numbers called 25:43 I think?? It smelled like I had wandered through a citrus wonderland paradise and I got so many compliments on it. IT LASTED FOREVER on my clothing!!! When I went back, it had sold out, so I will not wait again! I think it is online though....it is so good for the citrus lover who likes the stronger scents like I do!!! MMMMMMM!!!! I like Lush products well enough but you know what I like the most??? A HAPPY GIRLFRIEND!!!! Luckily, Lush makes a quality product that I can buy for my ladyfriend and in turn she keeps putting up with my stupidity, WIN/WIN! The service and quality are second to none, they even ask me if I need anything while I follow her around the store. All of the products are made in store and if you are uncertain about a specific item feel free to ask, for most they would be more than happy to demo them for you. The girlfriend really likes the Godmother soap, it smells like a cherry tootsie pop. I have even found a few that I don't mind like Demon In The Dark and Dirty. The soaps are the star of the show here but I can say the bath bombs are pretty cool as well. They are really an experience to behold, I am not sure how to describe them. I don't just throw down the five star reviews for anything. Lush deserves one. I've been more than once in the last month, and now I understand the rabid devotion some of their customers have. The products are AWESOME (and I'm hard to please on that one), the staff is super nice, and the natural, no animal testing goodness lets me feel good about putting it on my body. It started with me spending an hour trying to scrub my boyfriend's Irish Spring residue off the tub. That required chemicals so harsh I broke out in hives using them in a well-ventilated area with gloves. The Irish Spring HAD. TO. GO. If I was gonna change his soap of 15 years, it had to be a really good change, right? The lovely ladies of Lush seem to have fixed this problem more than once with their own men, and they set to work finding me perfect replacement choices. He's in love with the Sexy Peel soap and the bits of mild exfoliating fruit peels inside it. I'm in love with not being a scullery maid. And then I mentioned that gardening was tearing up my hands. Lush to the rescue again! Tiny Hands are solid bars of glory and skin salvation. Plus, they have a wee bit of talc mixed in so that while your hands are seriously moisturized quickly, within a few seconds they aren't greasy. That was so good, some massage bars for sore muscles came home too. Who knew solid moisturizers would be the best ones I've ever found? A couple of weeks later, the gardening in the heat and all that sweating was taking its toll on my skin big time. The helpful salesgirl demonstrated different washes on my arms, explained how the ingredients would help with the specific problems I was having, and sure enough - the Angels on Bare Skin has my sensitive skin blemish-free, clean, and soft. They've helped me put together gifts for friends - and event threw in little extra containers of scrubbing salts that are the perfect size for travel. read more

I love how enthusiastic the people working here are about Lush. I can't blame them. Lush has amazing bath products. The fragrances here are unique and most items are vegan. These are definitely some pricey bath products, but they really are gourmet products for your hair and skin. Everything I have used feels good on my skin and the scent is always incredible. You are getting what you pay for. I will say this...I only use about 1/4 to 1/2 of one bubble bar at a time. Some things you can stretch out and the quality does not suffer. If you don't know what a bubble bar is: you crumble the bar (or a portion of it) under running water...and voila! You have a bubble bath. The soap they make not only smells good, it lasts for a while. The only thing I don't like is, like many other places, scents and products often get discontinued to make way for new ones. Their website (www.lush.com) does have what they call "retro" products...but not all of them. I still miss their Skinny Dip shower gel. But I'm not bitter. I'm a little bitter about Bathos, one of their bubble bars. Sometimes that shows up in one of their gift boxes. Oh yes. They have beautifully decorated gift boxes. They are a great introduction to someone who is unfamiliar with Lush. By the way...they often go on sale after Christmas half off (maybe it's after the the new year...but it's definitely around then, because I have gotten some great deals then). They also have seasonal items. Some of those come back every year, but there are items that don't. They have some bath bombs with glitter in them...those are my favorite...especially the Fairy Jasmine bomb (you can find it online in their retro section). Right now they have a bath melt that looks like it is made of nothing but silver glitter. I'll never be too old for glitter. (The glitter is easy to clean up from your bath...more so than the flower bits that come out of some bath bombs. However, I also adore the flower bits.) Some of the bath bombs dissolve more slowly than others. Some bath bombs have confetti like things inside (sometimes). I read a review that said this is like the Willy Wonka of bath products...yes! But don't worry. If bath bling is not your style, most things do not have glitter in them. They are offering some make up now, which I confess I have not tried. The ingredients look mostly wholesome. I'm glad they are branching out! They offer perfumes now, too. I am crazy about the way Lush blends fragrances. This is where they really shine. Tip: Bring back 5 empty used black pots of products and you get a free fresh face mask. read more

The first time I tried Lush was in Houston 6 months ago, where I bought a solid conditioner. I don't know if I received the right instructions, but the conditioner was not that easy to use and did not really do it for me. Fast forward a few months later, I decided to give Lush a try again, but this time in the skin-care department. My face was breaking out, and I was tired of using harsh chemicals that were drying out my face. As soon as I walked in, a staff came to help me pick something out. He listened to my situation, and even asked a second opinion from a more experience staff. I ended up getting a scrub from him that I LOVE!! Most scrubs are too harsh to use daily, but I'm able to use this one twice a day if I feel like it! He also gave me a few samples to try out, Ultrabland, 9 to 5, Grease Lightning, and the Vanishing Cream. Ultrabland is great! It's so thick and oily, which is perfect to use right before bed. That is what I am picking up next time I go there ;) On a side note, if you are a little wary of spending so much money on cosmetics at first, the staff makes you feel comfortable about just walking around and trying on the samples. I went the other day and put on lipstick without buying anything. They were having fun and just chatting with me. Love not being pressured into buying things!! I'm a Lushie and have been to stores in Oregon, California, Hawaii and New York. I was excited when they opened almost 2 years ago and still love it. I love that they will make you samples of almost anything- just ask! Some things, like the solid shampoo bars, can't be sampled but if you buy it, use it, and it doesn't work, take it back with your receipt to exchange or refund! I'm not a huge bath person but I love their solid shampoos, conditioners, hair treatments and soaps. The staff is great too. They are trained (very well) to know their products and sell to you, but I've never felt harassed or pushed into things I didn't want. I was walking down W. 6th on my way somewhere else and found myself wandering into the newly opened Lush Austin (why are we just now getting a Lush?!). I was met by a friendly salesperson who asked me, "So are you a Lushie?" Little did I know I was about to become an acolyte of the cult of Lush. The salespeople are incredibly knowledgeable and every suggestion they have given me has been spot on. I have a little rosacea on my cheeks and they recommended some cleansers (Ultrabland and Fresh Farmacy) and moisturizers (Cosmetic Lad) that have really helped my complexion better than anything else I've EVER tried. I also bought a tub of Hair Doctor mask for my "friend" who has been having a trouble with dry scalp lately and the peppermint in the mask feel great and leave my, I mean, my "friend's" hair nice and soft and shiny. I also love their unisex fragrance "Breath of God" and now I am looking for a guy who feels similarly so we can be one sexy-smelling twosome. I love that their products haven't been tested on animals and that they make a point to avoid unnecessary packaging and are big into recycling (bring back five of their little black pots and you get a free face mask). I am such a free product ho, so this totally sucked me in. Their products aren't cheap (I swear, if I even walked by their store, my debit card would jump out of my wallet and spend $40 on its own accord), but I really have been happy with everything I've bought there, which is really rare (usually I fall out of infatuation with my cosmetics pretty quickly) and the cleansers and moisturizers last a long time (I'm at 3 months and counting). read more

I kinda fell in love with this store this past week. I stopped in on my lunch break one day by chance just to see what it was all about and was quite amazed. They have a petition going for animal rights (who doesn't respect that?). They employ the eco-friendliest practices I've ever seen, from no packaging at all to the use of rice-based peanuts in their paper gift assortments. I had never seen these peanuts before; the sales lady showed me how they dissolve to almost nothing under water! That's another thing that's so great about going in.. they are always willing to demonstrate their products for you. The products are incredibly fun, ranging from "lovely jubblies" boobie cream, to bubble baths, to mud baths, to wiggly jiggly soaps, to travel-inspired parfumes available in solid form. So far, I've tried a face mask, the Karma bubble bath, Herbalism facewash, and "the smell of freedom" gorilla parfume. I haven't been let down yet. My favorite product of these has been my recent purchase of the solid "the smell of freedom" parfume.. It has a strong lemon-base that somehow works with the rest of the ingredients to create the most comforting smell. I find myself constantly applying more and putting my wrist near my face when I lay down at night to get that extra comfort! For about $10, I think I'm getting my money's worth! Who doesn't love lush? If you're a fragrance junkie this place is for you! This location has friendly and knowledgably staff, but the parking sucks most of the time. Better to park down the street and walk, so you can enjoy the shops and eateries along the way. This location is consistently well stocked and organized. I personally love the bath bombs, FRESH face masks and lotions. They carry a variety of other stuff including shampoos, conditionals, oils, ect. Any bath product you can think of they've got. I'm not a young consumer - rather wide and over-the-hill, to be honest... but the lovely people at Lush still treated me as if I was their first customer of the day even though it was late in the evening. In addition to that, their shampoo is wonderful! We have very hard water at our house, and I've tried two of their shampoos, both of which make great suds and smell sooo good. This place is great. I have a bath room full of hardly used products that I could not manage to finish from over places. Lush gives me samples of things so that I can decide if they work for my skin. I end up buying most of the things I try. I finally found a moisturizer that I could use everyday! Some products are a little tough to figure out, but the employees are so helpful. Such cool stuff! I fell in love with Lush Cosmetics on a recent trip to Boulder, CO where they have a shop located in the Pearl St. Mall. I took a friend from Austin with me on this visit and picked up all sorts of awesome stocking stuffers for *everyone* on my list, plus a little something for myself :) What's great about Lush is that they'll demonstrate their products for you, and let you try them out. All of the staff I've ever encountered have been super helpful, kind and pretty neat people. Current favorite products: 1. Three Gold Rings Bubble Bar: OMG it turns your bath water *gold* so cool looking. Smells fantastic, and really moisturizes your skin! 2. Pow Wow Lip Scrub - Sugary lip scrub - with pop rocks! Yes, pop rocks. This limey-sugar-popping scrub is so neat, and does wonders for your lips. After getting back from CO, my lips were trashed, peeling and dry. This fixed them right up with the help of some None of Your Beeswax lip balm. The products are a little pricey...but when you consider that they are all hand made and a lot of them are vegan products, its not all that bad. This store is so fun and there are so many cool things to try out. I definitely recommend a visit to anyone who hasn't been. I've yet to have a bad experience at any lush store. Every person is always very helpful & kind. I'm given samples almost every time for something new. So I can actually try it at home and decide. I sent my boyfriend alone one time to grab a few of my staple items and remembered I wanted to sample their foundations. I'm very fair skinned & read nothing but good things about that line of products. He showed the girl my photo & explained my routine and skin completion.... She sent him home with 3 different foundations and 2 powders for me to try! So awesome. The extra cash you pay here trumps the gunk you buy at Walmart any day. So as a tip, it's a little hard to find if its your first time to this location.I went there for bath bombs and a face mask to try. It was my first time buying a face mask. One word: RACHEL! I went into Lush today to treat myself to my usual bath bombs and bubble bars, and while I was shopping, Rachel came to help me. While she suggested new bars to try (and picked me out the biggest ones to take home), she also guided me toward other Lush products that could help my extremely sensitive skin. Rachel took the time to explain probably 10-15 different products to me and prepared me numerous samples to try at home. Anything I had questions about, she thoroughly explained and demo-ed, and then prepared me 5 samples to take home. I have only tried one of the samples so far, but I am really excited to see if her recommendations help my super sensitive skin! I think it is important to note that the associates working were all extremely helpful, and Rachel did everything above without being asked at all. Maybe I am wrong, but I feel like customer service like this has become a rarity, except when you're at Lush. Additionally, it wasn't like I spent an insane amount to get this kind of treatment-I think at the end I spent a buck or two over $30, and was treated like I had bought out the whole store. Wonderful, natural, and non-animal tested products aside, if you're looking for a comfortable and FUN shopping experience, you must visit Lush on 6th and ask for Rachel for some rock star treatment and amazing recommendations! read more

I went to Lush for the first time on Saturday and the smell is kind of overwhelming. Especially since it was super cold for Texas and the doors were closed. I think they need more ventilation. However, the sales people are extremely nice and helpful! My main concern was buying shampoo that didn't irritate my skin/scalp. After moving to Austin, I've noticed my skin is more dry than it used to be. The sales person tested a few shampoos on my arm and recommended at great conditioner. I've only used them once, but so far so good! She even helped me pick out ones that didn't have a strong scent. Currently I'm using their new Lullaby shampoo solid and American Dream conditioner. I also purchased their limited edition Prince Charming bath gel and I'm in love! I can't wait to try more, but until then, Lush please ventilate your store a little more! Lush saved my skin. Combining Angels on Bare Skin scrub with the Imperialis moisturizer has calmed my acne-prone skin and helped heal some dry patches. These products are wonderfully made and have high moral fiber. The employees have been knowledgeable about which products work with which people. The scrub and lotion combo usually runs me around $40, which is what I paid for one measly tube of lotion at Sephora. I believe that good product is worth paying for and this is damn good product. As far as the store- very well stocked. Employees are EXTREMELY helpful. Remember, they're salespeople, and they're good at what they do. So before you start crying that you got bulled into $200 worth of bath bombs, remember that you're an adult and can say "no thanks". read more

I hadn't been to a Lush store before and neither had my friend, so after a delicious lunch we walked over and decided to see what all the hype was about! We walked in and were immediately greeted by a very pleasant employee who seemed so excited to walk us through the store and let us try some samples, which we would never say no to! Megan asked us what sort of scents we liked in order to find products we would be interested in trying. I chose citrusy scents like lime and orange and my friend chose dessert-type scents like vanilla. My friend sampled the It's Raining Men Shower Gel and the Charity Pot lotion, both of which she really liked and I loved the way the shower gel smelled! I sampled the Ocean Salt Shower Scrub which smiled DIVINE, the Yuzu and Cocoa Shower Cream that left my skin so moisturized, and the From Dusk til Dawn Massage Bar. Perusing the store leaves you wanting to try everything and the staff certainly provide the excellent customer service you need to have a perfect experience. Oohhhh ahhhhhh I feel like a kid on Christmas every time I walk into lush, so here goes my PROS/ CONS list PROS: #1-NICEST staff I have been introduced too. Every time I walk in Im made to feel welcome with the positive, outgoing staff there. They are EXTREAMLY knowledgeable about their product so if you have any questions make sure to ASK. #2-great products. Every time I purchase a new lush product I'm always satisfied with the results(mask of magnesium, ocean salt scrub, coal face wash, BATH BOMBS, therapy massage bar). #3- if your purchase the charity pot lotion it all goes to charity! #4- although not that many parking spaces I have never had a problem parking either on the street or in the parking lot by lululemon #5- it's not that expensive compared to other brands and the products quality is much better CONS- getting addicted to it...now lush is a weekly trip for me read more

They were so helpful and obviously want to sell their products but they genuinely want to find the correct product for you. My only problem with buying lush products is that when you buy a few you don't always remember when or how to use them correctly. I can not even begin to say how awesome Lush is! Not only do they have amazing products but the customer service is exceptional! My daughter is not a girly girl but when presented with the idea of having her birthday party at Lush (yes they do that), she was excited. At her birthday party last, the girls had an amazing time and our "hosts" did a great job keeping five 11 year olds completely entertained! The girls got to watch a bath bomb dissolve, play with make up,put on a face mask, and make their own bath bombs to take home. Then the finished up the night with some fun shopping. My experience at Lush was absolutely wonderful and unanticipated. My friend and I were wandering around Austin and happened upon the store after lunch. She had heard good things so we went inside and after being immediately greeted by a Lush employee we revealed that it was our first time in the store. She was incredibly friendly and suggested that we look around for a bit and also offered to try out some products with us once we were ready. Everything in the store smelled wonderful and it was great to see that everything is 100% cruelty free. This is certainly reflected in the prices, but the products seemed to be of a high enough quality that it didn't bother me. After walking around the store for a while, my friend and tried out a few products with a different employee, named Megan. Megan was awesome and asked each of us for our scent preferences in order to customize our product trials. We each got to experience a body scrub, soap, and moisturizer. Megan was so great that we even ended up talking about our future travel plans and she told us all about the three-story Lush store and spa in London. I will definitely make a point to seek it out if I am ever in the UK! I loved my experience at Lush and fully intend to go back in the future. read more

I love love loveeee lush!!! I come here a lot, and was really blown away on my last trip to lush. I came in early this morning to get my hands on the Easter bath products and Katie was there to help! She was awesome and helpful without being aggressive. I like to browse alone and smell everything without having someone constantly nagging me, trying to get me to buy a bunch of stuff. She was awesome, and when I did have a question she was right there to help!! I got a golden egg, and a bunch of other fun bath bombs and bubble bars. I'm super excited to try everything I got! I also love the I Love Juicy shampoo. It's a great find for a greasy haired girl like me, and it smells so amazing. Will be back for sure!!!! read more

I have known about Lush products for sometime now, but never indulged. I popped in the other day, I was near by. I picked up a moisturizer bar, I can't put it down, I love it. Also, some solid shampoo for travel, I have not tried them yet. I love this little shop, lots of choices, and the ladies working the store are friendly and very helpful with showing the products and making suggestions. I have a new obsession. read more

Astonishingly poor customer service. I came in to purchase a jar of liquid foundation. When I asked to see what they had I was forced to endure a 10 minute speech about how one line was being discontinued and another was on the way. I will never get those 10 minutes of my life back. Why she thought I would care about which product lines are doing what is a mystery to me. All I wanted was some liquid foundation. "I don't want you to fall in love with a product and then it get discontinued." Are you kidding me? I'm not a psychopath; I don't fall in love with inanimate objects. Equally mystifying is why she didn't spend those 10 minutes showing me the products I asked to see. Or just kept her mouth shut and pointed at them. Very frustrating waste of time. read more

I really love Lush products. The prices may be high when first looking but the quality of everything really makes it worth it; you'll find yourself coming back for more before you know it. The service I was given was outstanding! I was only in the shop for a few minutes but I was approached by three different staff members asking if I was finding everything well and if I needed help. The only downside is how packed it gets. Really that attests to the quality of service and products; that everyone flocks to this great store, but it is easy to get claustrophobic if you come in during a chaotic time. read more

I went to Lush today, looking for some hair products. Hannah helped me locate some products during my time there. She was kind and understanding, in the sense that I wasn't looking to buy anything but to just browse products. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted and didn't want to commit to a product without trying it first. Hannah was kind enough to provide me with some free samples, helping me decide if I really wanted to buy Lush's hair products. As a customer, I often feel pressured into buying something, fearing that I might anger the store clerks or associates, but Hannah was completely chill about it. I think that lessened the burden of browsing products and feeling as if you have to buy something. As a customer, I like to sample products before buying things, so I think Hannah did an excellent job! Thank you! read more
