They took their time and allowed us to try so many variations of customized lipsticks until we concocted our absolute favorites. I did the Lip Lab experience in Austin for my 25th birthday with my bestie and it was such a cute and fun time. The location is a little hidden (it's behind Hermès) so it took us a minute to find, but once we stepped inside, I was immediately in love. The whole setup is girly, modern, and full of pink vibes. definitely gave main character energy. We each created our own custom lip balm, and the one I made has this mint chocolate scent that I adore. I even created my balm name and chose the font of it. Every time I open the case, it smells so good. The texture is super smooth and moisturizing, and I've already gotten so many compliments on the shade I picked. What's really cool is they save all your info, so I can reorder the exact same one online whenever I run out. All the ladies working there were really sweet and helpful throughout the whole process. The only thing I wish was different is that it had been a little more hands-on. We got to choose the pigment and finish, but we didn't get to actually mix anything ourselves. It probably has to do with getting the formula just right, but I kinda expected more of a "lab" vibe where we'd be doing a little more of the work. Another thing was the lip liners were only all premade. I was hoping to create my own but still cute nonetheless. My sister and I stopped by to check out what the Lip Lab experience was all about. Diana is a color theory wizard! I usually wear a super vampy shade, but it's a bit too much for daytime. So, I challenged Diana to create a vampy nude that leaned more brown than purple. She absolutely nailed it! I now wear the nude lipstick and liner every day while still feeling confident & fierce. My sister just got engaged and wanted a less bold signature shade that she could wear to all her wedding events. Once again, Diana delivered! She created a shade my sister loved, and she even wore it to her engagement party. It also photographed quite nicely. My first experience at lip lab went very well. However, when I started to use the product at home, the product was so dry that it was just awful to use. I made an appointment to go back and get a reformulation and to take advantage of one of their sale offerings. The appointment was made directly from the ad, but it would not be honored because of the timing. Of course, as far as Lip Lab not honoring it because of the time, did not learn of this until I was three minutes away after a 25 minute drive down to the shop.. I mentioned that I wasn't even sure I was going to buy anything that I was unhappy with the product and basically I was just out of time. So while the appointment initially fun when I first got the product, the product sucks. And I don't know why an ad would let you book outside of the time that they are promoting. It was nice to be called to let me know that promotion would not be accepted however, 15 minutes before the appointment after having driven down was much too late to learn that. So the product stinks. And the customer service is lacking significantly. I would not recommend this business. read more

I saw an ad on TikTok and decided to go with my cousin. It's cute inside and the staff is sweet. My appt was super fast and I got color matched on the first try. However, the staff could not figure out the right color for my cousin and it was pure trial and error in trying to mix shades together. I don't think any of the staff members are trained in color theory because the colors they were mixing for my cousin were awful and not at all right for her skin tone. Although staff was nice, it got pretty frustrating and boring sitting there watching them mix colors over and over again without getting close to what my cousin wanted. I do like the color I ended up with, but the quality of the lipstick is pretty standard and it's not particularly different than any lipstick you can get at Walgreens. read more

I came to Lip Lab recently with my sister and our experience from start to finish was amazing! Our color expert was Diana and she was great to work with. She listened to what we wanted, the colors we were looking for and crafted a shade that worked well and complimented our skin tone :) I will admit their lipsticks, lipglosses, bundle packages are expensive...but you're also paying for the color customization and experience. For someone like myself that never wears lipstick (because I can never find the right color to wear) coming to Lip Lab is exactly what I needed to get out of my comfort zone with only nudes and sheer colors ..and play with other shades ... so it was worth every penny for me! read more

Came here with a friend after seeing this place in an Instagram ad and it did not disappoint! This is one of the best experiences I've had here in Austin. It is a super fun girl's day activity- whether it's just with one friend or a party! Facility- super spacious room with a lot of chairs and mirrors set up for each person, as well as the lipstick samples. Very aesthetic as well for picture taking! Experience- They give each person a "menu" where you can choose from three different lip makeup options (lipstick, lip balm, and lip gloss). There are also different bundles where you can mix and match those for a cheaper price! If you choose lipstick, they let you choose between three different types (matte, satin, and sheer), and for lip gloss you can choose whether to get shimmer or not. They have pictures of all the different colors so you can tell the workers which blend or range of colors you are looking for. You can also choose the flavor and what to engrave on the tube! Service- the girls working there were the sweetest people ever! We had Bri, Adrianna, and Kadi and they were super patient in helping us find the right shade of color and made sure we were satisfied with the product! I got one lipstick and one lip gloss and my friend got two lipsticks and the experience took around 2 hours- every step of the process was super interesting and it was so much fun making it- can't wait to start wearing the products! Pretty happy to see LL show up in Austin. I had visited one previously two years ago in NYC. While I was ok with that experience it felt rushed and due to bad lighting, I was very unhappy with my very expensive lipsticks. This is not the case in Austin - just the opposite. It is a vibrant, busy place, but you will feel like you are the only customer in here. First, this is tucked back behind Congress a little bit, closer to the hotel, so be on the lookout for that. Book your appointment online, then show up. I was way early and they had availability so they took me right away, which was very nice of them. Unfortunately I am horrible with names and memory, so I cannot remember the name of the girl who helped me but she was great. She was working in conjunction with another artist and guest. This was a VERY fun experience. You start out by telling them what you want, and they will get to blending. Don't be afraid to ask questions or reject a shade. But when you do reject a shade, give them guidance on which way you are going with that shade (like darker/lighter pinker, redder etc) so that they can get it just right. Pick up your mirror and go stand by the window to see it in natural light or even step outside. I really enjoyed my experience and I love my new lippie. They will create a profile for you and put your color blend in it so that you can make it again. This is a cool concept and the price IMO matches the experience- you get a high quality, hand made just for you lipstick that you should love, so this one doesn't go to the bottom of a drawer because something is weirdly off- but do better than I did the first time, and make sure your shades are just right! read more
