Her office is located on the top floor of a building in Rogers Park with free street parking right in front. She asked me questions before the session began, provided me with water, and even had me choose the lotion or oil scent of my preference. She told me that I will be spending most of the time lying on my sides (because of my belly) and that she uses hot stones during the massages. I never experienced them before but it sounded good to me! Overall the massage was great & I left feeling relaxed. So relaxed I came back another 2 times during weeks 34 and 36! I'm looking forward to coming back to Karen post-pregnancy for a regular massage.

That is unheard of the industry. Most are 60 minutes, with 90 being the max if you are lucky. Most others are also on a tight schedule and clock watch. Laurie does not. She schedules clients far enough apart that you get the full time and maybe even a little extra if you have a real problem area to address. Her sessions are long because she uses a variety of modalities and incorporates a lot of Thai yoga stretching into her work for your whole body with emphasis on any trouble areas you discuss or are discovered during the session. Laurie also places emphasis on the whole being. She wants to get to know her clients and sooth your mind as well as your body. I have been going for massage therapy for 35 years. I have never found anyone better. Even at fancy spas, I am so spoiled now that I always am left wanting more. I think 60 minutes is too short and most therapists lose interest before the rare 90 minute session is over. Laurie is different. She is present for the full 2hrs, which I have never found anywhere else.

My doctor wanted me to get an expensive MRI as a likely prelude to surgery. But I had heard about some great work that Meghan has done and thought that maybe I should investigate her approach before I start down the more conventional path of Western medicine. That was a very, very good decision on my part. I met with Meghan about 10 times over eight weeks for acupuncture on my heel and leg. Each session usually lasted about 45-55 minutes. In that time, Meghan got me back on my feet, pain-free and so much more. Not only did she effectively address the pain but she also prescribed a daily routine of specific stretches to help me get to the root of what caused the spur in the first place. And while we were at it, because I had mentioned feeling congested from allergies, she concocted an herbal tea recipe that completely cleared that up as well. Acupuncture and herbal medicine have been around for over 3,000 years. So I probably shouldn't have been surprised that it was so effective. What did NOT surprise me though was how thoughtful and careful and creative Meghan Schmit was in diagnosing my situation and expertly delivering the appropriate remedies.
