Lulu's is great - a haven for Central Mexico/Guadalajara style food. Our family has gone there for at least 15 years. Our favorites are the carne asada torta, carne asada burro, the two taco special, the AZ Burro and the breakfast burros. The staff is always friendly and they have a great salsa bar that includes escabeche. No fancy table service, no endless chips & salsa, but there is something for everyone. My journey with Lulus started 20 years ago when I was 5 years old. My love exponentially increased over time. As of late, my mother and I have been frequenting more and more. Each time we're here, we talk about how good the food tastes as if it were the first time we were ever trying it. I love the bean and cheese burritos. I love the "street tacos" with corn tortilla and carne Asada. The salsa bar is always the go to and I'm pretty sure I eat all of their pickled jalapeños and carrots. The flour tortillas are mucho soft and yummy and I feel, better than the ones from Cafe Coyote in San Diego. I just fricken love this place as an Arizona native. The beeritas is a recent discovery of ours, and you need to try it. My anxiety levels increase here because I become so indecisive about what to eat. I will have it all! The style of service is sit down mixed with to-go order. It's fast. Family owned so you're supporting local business. How 'merica! Can you get? This place is great as long as the old woman isn't cooking. She is very greedy with her portions. The 2 times I went there when she wasn't cooking, I was very pleased with portion sizes. When I went there and she was cooking it was a huge rip-off. We each spent $10 on Carne asada fries and were given about 1/4 cup of beef each. When I walk in and see her sitting on her ass eating, I just walk out and go to Fillibertos instead. Don't waste your money if you see that woman. Multiple people complained about portion sizes while we ate there. She also got the order completely wrong. AZ style Carne asada fries should have grilled peppers and onion. We were given mostly fries with raw jalapeño and onion on top. If that old lady is Lulu, I'm fairly certain she is losing her mind read more

Ok. Pretty good food for sure. But they destroy you with add on charges. $3 for a dab of guacamole (I just bought 9 avocados at Sprouts for $3). 75 cents to use a credit card. Small serving of rice and beans if you pay for them on the side. My burrito with no rice, beans or sauce was $11.50. If youre okay with them over charging you, then come here. I got delivery, only Mexican food in my area that delivers and I have no food in my house so I definitely ate everything, and they delivered quickly. However, I did ask for no cheese (even in caps) and they still put cheese on it. Also the portion sizes are a bit smaller than I thought they'd be.. Plus the fries were soggy and gross, and the beans were watered down. The main dish was fine (besides the cheese) but overall a mediocre experience. read more

Just one item is hard to judge by, but the Arizona burrito with carne asana was terrible. I even asked before ordering if the cane asada was lean or a little fatty. I was assured they trimmed their meat well. I ended up spitting most of the meat out, and for $7, it had more potatoes than meat. Very disappointed. Sorry lulu to leave a bad review. We went to Lulu's a couple of days ago for the first time and we were blown away! The cashier was super helpful and nice. I ordered the carne Asada chimichanga and it was AMAZING! I would say that the carne Asada was the star of the dish. I have had a lot of carne Asada in my life but none of it compares to this one! This is a family favorite! We have been coming here for the past 15 years and it's our favorite place to bring people from out of town when they want an authentic dish. The new places popping up around downtown Gilbert, though trendy, can't hold a flame to this place. The food is delicious! Their Gordo Burritos are only $6 and they are HUGE. My teenage son loves them. It's a family owned establishment and that's hard to come by these days. I absolutely love their homemade Horchata, no mixes here! Went here for dinner with my husband and 2 young kids. The food was pretty good overall, but not the best Mexican I've had. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were delicious! Even my 2 year old wanted more of them. The beans and rice that came with the tacos was decent. I also had a chicken enchilada which was OK. The sauce was a little spicy to me and I'm not sure if the enchilada was homemade or previously frozen. The restaurant could use a little updating too to be more modern. It got kinda busy there as it was a Friday night and they only had a few staff working there - they could probably use 1 or 2 more people working during busy times to make the service faster. I drive past this place all the time so this time we stopped in. The first thing I noticed was the place is kind of old, dingy and a little warm and humid inside. I ordered 2 reg. fish tacos w/rice & beans. The size of the fish taco tortillas was about the size of a small coaster or 3.5 inches. Tiny. The fish inside was crumbled , not what I am used to seeing. It was just ok tasting, but very un appealing. The beans were very bland and the rice was so old it almost looked like sand. Maybe it had been stirred so many times that the size and shape of the normal rice disintegrated. If you want chips n salsa you have to pay for them. Most Mexican restaurants just give you them free because its almost expected, but not this place. I was also taken aback when our food was ready we had to walk up to the counter and get it ourselves. It's 2 feet away , we're your only customers and you can't serve us.?. Now that I've been there and settled my curiosity , I will not be back. read more

It's about time I wrote a positive review for Lulu's Taco Shop, we've been eating here for years. It is a family favorite and a Gilbert staple. The food is delicious! The tortillas are what make this dining experience unique: fresh, warm, and homemade. You can't go wrong with ordering the AZ Burrito or even their simple Bean and Cheese Burrito. Their food is always fresh and the environment is spotless. And, the best part, you will actually meet the owners while you are dining in this mom-and-pop Mexican diner. Their salsa is absolutely amazing and my favorite is their Horchata--delicious. This is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants in Arizona. Highly recommended. read more

LOVE Lulu's! Once I get a hankering for some Lulu's I have to go. My favorite is the cheese quesadilla on a flour tortilla, chips and salsa and a strawberry margarita. I ordered three separate tacos and my girlfriend ordered two small tacos herself. The Super tacos run almost $6 a taco and are big but not huge. The regular fish tacos are really small and are not fried to where they are very crispy. They happened to mess us on my super shrimp taco and gave me a regular shrimp taco. Normally, that isn't a big deal but because it costs about $3 more, I felt the need to address that. The Az super taco was great though, by far the best of the three I ordered. Although they do provide good food and pretty good service, the prices are comparable to Joyride just down the road. LuLu's also charges 75 cents to run a credit card for payment which is a little bit of insult already due to the high prices they charge. I see potential because of the pretty good food but maybe they should change a couple things regarding pricing. The big tv's for the menu's above the counter do look great too. Food- 4 stars. Very disappointing. We stopped here seeing the sign that says "Best tacos in AZ". We ordered 5 meals which came to $50- no drinks. The tacos were okay, but super tiny, the beans were bland, and the rice was clumpy. We left hungry and had to buy our children more food at a fast food restaurant afterwards. WAY overpriced for what you get. Save your money. I think the sign should be changed to "The most mediocre and overpriced tacos in AZ". This is THE place for authentic Guadalajaran Mexican food. No, I've never been to Guadalaraja, but they say it's from there, and the food is SO good, so I'm down with it. I absolutely love mom and pop joints, and this is the ultimate. I love the story behind the restaurant--they came here from Mexico and worked hard to save money for their own restaurant. Who doesn't want to support the American Dream in action? And the owners/founders are the ones cooking your food. Rock on! Everything I've tried has been delicious and flavorful. Spring for the super tacos--it's bigger, more meat, and there's cheese in between the tortillas. Worth it! I overheard them saying they were closing for remodeling this summer. Looking forward to seeing the finished product! We purchased the homemade flour tortillas to take home, and it's amazing how different (better) they are than the store bought ones. They puff up when you cook them, and they get crispy and delicious. This is comfort food, for sure. Stop in and try it, you won't be disappointed. Great value, too. read more

Food that I did eat was ok. I went anticipating on a friend joining me while using a Groupon voucher. I ordered for two and presented my voucher to the cashier. The owner showed up and told me me the voucher was already used. It became obvious she didn't want me to use it. The voucher was good. While processing the order, my friend texted and said they couldn't join me after all so I quickly advised and asked if one of the meals be changed to carry out. The owner said no and the voucher was only good for dine in. After a few ackward moments, I just told them I'll eat from both plates since payment was already processed. I ate the main courses from both dishes and left the beans and rice. No chips were served to me. I believe that the owner should've made an axception and allowed one of the plates to be carry out regardless of the voucher rules. The good was just ok. I don't like wasting food and I don't think the owner would either, but I tried to eat as much as possible and did leave very full, lol. The cashier/server was very friendly and nice. She would've processed as requested if it weren't for Lulu (don't really know if that was her name). I would not return based on this experience. read more

Lived in the area a long time and have never been to Lulu's so I thought I'd give it a shot. Looking at the menu it seemed a bit pricey for quick service Mexican. After looking things over I ordered a combo #9 which includes an enchilada, taco rice and beans. I placed my order to go. Myself, like some of the other posters was a little taken back by the sign that said they would add 75 cents to all card orders. What year is this? This is not how business is done today is it? I had some cash so I paid the 9 bucks and change for my combo and went home. When I got there,I realized that there was no taco with my order. I also looked and saw that the serving of rice and beans was extremely small. I called the place to let them know and they said bring it back and they will replace it. I asked about the small sides and the kid who was working the counter and answering the phone said the kitchen measures that stuff out with every order. I guess so because you don't get s*** with it! I brought the meal back and asked for a refund which they gave me. After looking at what was in the box the kid took it and slammed it into the garbage right there. Well with the high prices, small portions and a bit of attitude I will say that I will probably never step foot into Lulu's again! read more
